Comments: Overall, BuilderTrend seems like it could be a good solution for companies that build homes or do other large projects like that with subcontractors. It definitely is not designed for companies that do small jobs or many jobs with one client. Be ready with questions when meeting with your BT rep during your 90 day trail time. Have them show you how things are done so you understand how it works 100%. There were a few features that were promised to us, but then when we asked more specific questions, it turned out that those things were not as promised. However, probably a great tool for a general contractor needing to stay organized and wanting to stay transparent to clients!

Pros: - Time tracking with overtime automatically calculated. - Job costing with custom jobs/types. Can generate reports so you can see effectiveness of employees. - Different views for job schedule which can be nice - calendar, agenda, gantt. - Can store unlimited photos, videos, and documents. All are organized in folders and can be shared with the client easily. - Can assign multiple employees to jobs as well as subcontractors and their prices and information. - It will show your current costs, so you can see how much the job is costing the client in real time. - Most everything is customizable and template based. - You are assigned a specific rep from BT that will answer all questions and do live training with you - Very helpful. - There are a fair amount of videos available online from other users who are also using the software. - Effective for companies that deal with large jobs with many moving parts and subcontractors. - Client portal for each job that includes notes, pictures, videos, progress, invoices, etc. This all can be hidden from clients as well and customized to how much information you are wanting to share.

Cons: - Calendar feature doesn't allow you to drag and drop jobs or scheduled items and also allow clients to view it. You can either drag and drop or have it be viewable to clients. This is fairly simple to switch back and forth, but it adds extra steps. - App is not user friendly for employees or technicians. There are too many buttons to press. - This software only works well for companies that handle large jobs that are long term with many elements. - To-do's are fairly simple and not well designed. Great that you can add photos, videos, docs to each checklist item. But there's only 1 checkbox per item, no title for the item, and no way to make the to-do list required for employees. - If you don't press "save" after uploading photos/videos or writing notes, they will disappear and you can easily erase notes. No window that reminds you to save work before moving on. - Extremely job-based. You must chose the job and then you can view schedule, clock in, add notes, complete checklist, etc. Not easy to view all jobs at same time. - No line items for invoices. - Client portal is set up to be job-based and not client-based. That means every job will have to have a different username for the client to log into. - Overtime that is automatically calculated doesn't automatically calculate a higher rate on the client's budget. - Learning curve is overall fairly steep. As a fast learner and pretty technically able, it took me a while to figure out how the software worked. Not super intuitive. - Not a very updated or attractive look.

Ethan, we very much appreciate your detailed feedback! We would love to have a member of our Product Team contact you to hear more of how we can make Buildertrend a fit for your industry. Thanks again!

Strictly on the project management side things are good (daily reports, calendar, to dos, bidding).

Comments: There are additional comments on the forum and with Derek (from a several months ago). The pain points we were trying to resolve were not resolved with BT. One pain point was dealing with project management. Sharing plans, having daily reports, seeing who is on the job, the calendar, having budgets in an easy, central place, etc. Those were addressed. We were also wanting a program to manage POs /contracts from PO to final payment -dealing with lien releases (all of them, progress, unconditional, final). Allowing for subs to progress bill and deal with change orders and retention. This was not better, in fact we are double entering data and having to extract to DocuSign to get what we need completed.

Pros: Project management. daily reports, calendar, to dos, bidding, having a budget, documents, mobile app, templates

Cons: all things financial - PO's, Lien Releases, integration with QB (need to have PO's and budget integrate), subs submitting an invoice (shouldn't be all or nothing), progress billing. Securing areas of use. Not getting a sub report (with custom columns so we can print a list for customers). Not having custom fields in the PO. not being able to remove former employees from the list (make inactive, like subs). reminders on the bell are always wrong or not relevant. Not able to have a change order directly associated with a PO so we can see the full value of the contract with changes. Managing retention. No PO approval process (internally route). Unable to get signatures on additional lien waivers. Time it takes to push from BT to QB - during billing there is a long delay. Constant circle of death. Unable to pull up vendor from a PO or add a new vendor from PO. With Bills and POs we should be able to select on that bill/po if we want it added to the budget / new expected. On the budget we should be able to select which columns are viewed.

Comments: We began using Builder Trend a little over 2 years ago as a move away from Build Tools. I have been very happy with the response time on customer support, and it is nice to always be able to reach someone when you have a question. We as a company are not currently using some of the features including scheduling and none of our subs or homeowners are going into the system, but we are trying to change this. We are actively using documents, selections, budgets, etc.

Pros: I like the ability to get notifications for a variety of transactions, the ability to log in & see things from a variety of devices, the tracking features for every transaction, and I love the amount of storage space for documents & photos that it has.

Cons: I wish it was more affordable to purchase more jobs so that we could use the system for our remodel projects, currently, we do not enter them in as many of them are small projects and do not warrant the expense it would cost us to have that many jobs. It is unfortunate because it puts us with two different processes for selections, budgets, docs, etc. depending on what type of project it is. I wish it was also possible to mark a selection as "Ordered," much like you can mark it as "Approved" it would help the designer & client know when it is absolutely too late to make changes. Lastly, I wish the transition to QB was more efficient. If you are using a desktop version of QB, which is the only way to have the contractor version, when PO's are pushed to QB, they do not populate the customer's job to the items on that PO even though it is tied to that job. I am not even sure what the point of tying the jobs together is as it does not seem to connect them at all in the transfer process.

Comments: Our team has been using Buildertrend for just over 2 years now and we would be lost without it. It's a no-brainer! The program has given our team a competitive advantage by providing our customers with their own project website, has improved the efficiency in our processes dramatically and has made project management on site incredibly easy. Even after 2 years, I'm still learning about new features that will help our team. The program's unmatched support team, detailed and highly-developed features and complete integration has helped us increase our volume, revenue and profits... It's completely changed the game for Owen Homes.

Pros: The included customer service team and support are unmatched. When you're running your business through this program, sometimes you need an immediate answer or need to learn a new feature on the fly and having instant access to those webinars and forums is invaluable. I also love how detailed and thought through each feature is - it's what made the switch from our old process so easy because they literally thought of everything! I could go on forever... the custom fields, different types of users and permissions, project templates, sync to Quickbooks... Buildertrend is doing it and doing it well.

Cons: Some of the features like selections, financials, and the gantt chart portion of the calendar are definitely more challenging when trying to switch from our current process over to Buildertrend. However, I'm not sure if there is a better way for any of those; I know those will have a learning curve because those are the more difficult parts of the project. It's hard to come up with cons for the program because I feel a lot of my issues could be resolved by learning more about the feature. I guess I'll leave with a suggestion: maybe emailing or notifying users of the next month's available webinars or reminders to use the resources -- I forgot these existed for about a year, I was just watching the videos available. I would like to see more videos uploaded -- long and short on specific features.

Recommendations to other buyers: Do it! Even if your process is completely developed or you're just starting out, Buildertrend makes the entire process easy and manageable, from the leads to the job site organization, to saving you time on almost every step of the project... it is absolutely worth it. But don't dive into the entire program at once, pick a few features first, master them and move on to the next few. Be sure to take advantage of everything the BT support team has to offer - they will make the transition so much easier, will hold your hand throughout the process and help you make sure the program works best for you and your company.

Comments: We are a boutique custom home builder; each project is unique and personalized. Although I was not involved in the selection of this software, my understanding is that we wanted a program that could be accessed by all the parties involved, handle the scheduling and move us away from paper checklists - ultimately allowing all users to be both informed of changes and to be able to plan for future events without having to directly communicate with each person. As far as scheduling goes this system has failed. It has caused more time consuming questions. My complaint is that you can only link item to item by a (or a couple) predecessor(s) that, ultimately, the program struggles with which item is next in the list if a few of them share the same linked task. Also in a best case scenario, this scheduled list is how you build a house - but in most cases something, whether it be trade related or whether related or inspection related, cause a task to be delayed but the other ones would continue on schedule however the program has linked the start date to the the delayed task and now the whole calender is messed up. Or perhaps the exterior of the house generally starts after framing and roofing but maybe a winter storm makes this impossible so you continue the interior for weeks. Then you try and adjust backwards and because your best case scenario template stated it should commence at framing completion and you delayed that. Thus your left with a domino affect of wrong dates. and a series of emails sent to vendors informing them of the delay that really didn't apply to them. So they change schedules and you are left with no trades to do the interior work that in your mind could and should be fine. I also find that the program doesn't offer enough flexibility in the selection section. It allows me to upload a previously created document to be stored that a homeowner could then log on and download. They then fill out and can't re-upload this document, so they are forced to fax or scan and email back to us. This is neither time effective nor practical. Perhaps it would be better if we were able to create a checklist that was interactive in this section, similar to the change orders where we type out the change and the client could update decisions. In our company we don't limit our clients to three choices of floor plans and two cabinet doors and 4 granite selections, they are free to choose anything they can dream of. As a result we cannot load a document that would apply to all builds. However, I believe the change orders tab is well thought out, easy to use and provides all the options to make it a valuable asset. The warranty section does a great job of tracking and notifying and saving time and assuring that service and warranty items are handled and accepted. The daily log and messaging capabilities that allow us to keep a record of notes or messages in one area logged by date and job site is extremely valuable and a good system. Furthermore, the software as a whole is easy to learn, has a logical and simple layout so even those who are not computer savvy can fumble through without creating errors and won't be too intimidated by the complexity of the software to attempt to use it. Finally, the technical support and training provided is always quick to help resolve an issue or aid in a question. New training is scheduled in a very quick time frame for free and is tailored to the person that requires it. This is handled exceptionally well in a time when often companies forget you exist once the purchase is complete. So, we have decided that we will use BuilderTrend for those things that they excel at and don't use it as a scheduling tool.

Comments: Willet Construction, Remodeling Specialist has been in business for 17 years. Our goal is to give Top Quality Service including Top Quality Craftsmanship. We are a Residential Remodeling Company that will do almost any type of project. We strive to create an enjoyable remodeling experience for our clients, so they will use us again and again. During the growth of our company, it became apparent we needed a production management system to communicate with our customers and within the company. I became aware of BuilderTrend while being a member of Remodelers Advantage. We had been using our own spreadsheets and calendars for customers project. Our Change Order process was slow and hard to keep up to date. I took a look at 3 different programs, and decided that Builder Trend met the needs we were looking for. We have been using Builder Trend for exactly 1 year now. We are extremely pleased with how it has improved so many areas of our company. Our customers love the communication system and seem to be able to use it with much ease. The Change Order & Selections process is so wonderful to keep us and the customer up to date. Using the calendar for the job schedule is so easy and the customers appreciate knowing what will be happening on a day to day basis. We put our payment schedule on the customer calendar so they know when all payments are due. Customers are sending checks exactly on time, sometimes even before we send out an invoice. Cash flow has never been better for our Company due to the customer knowing exactly when to send payments. Builder Trend has been extremely easy to learn. Technical Support has been extremely quick in responding to our needs. They are very knowledgeable about their product, and usually have answers for our requests immediately. Any time we need training on something, they are quick to set a date and time to cover any information we need. With the help of Builder Trend, we have grown our volume of completed jobs this year without adding more employees. This has resulted in Willet Const. having it's largest and most profitable year of our 17 year existence. And we hardly ever have any Accounts Receivables that are more than 15 days old. With the Selections being "Approved" by the customer on line, all the people that have viewing rights know exactly the product being used on each job. This way when our salesperson/designer are on vacation, anybody else in our office can answer questions from subs or customers about a product without having to bother the designer while they are on vacation. That way the job keeps moving smoothly, and our employees can enjoy their vacation without any worry about work going well while they are gone. This is especially nice for myself as the owner to go on vacation and leave work completely behind. I also like that Builder Trend keeps improving their program. The "Leads" tab is great to know how much potential work we are estimating. And it helps organize our meeting schedule with our potential customer throughout the designing and estimating process.

Comments: We were looking for a construction management tool that could include communication and job visibility throughout all departements and in the field - supervisors, procurement, management, financial, client & volunteer services, and that would allow updating and access in the field. BuilderTrend had it all. We are a medium size, not-for-profit, affodable home building & repair, educating, and financing firm. Multiple Excel spreadsheets couldn't be kept up to date, and traditional MS Project Management software was too cumbersome with less features. A really nice aspect of BuilderTrend is that the whole history of the build process is kept in one place rather than in multiple files on in-house servers and personal computers. We are blessed with many volunteers from out of state and by creating a "Volunteer" job, the schedulers and supervisors can see how many and who is coming in advance so we can stage the work and communicate to them exactly what they will be working on weeks in advance. Our client services department can see the build schedule for a client and keep the client informed of progress. We may not be using the program like a traditional commercial builder with clients would, but we have found all the features including selections and warranty to serve our needs very well. We have on average 25 repair jobs in process and 20 jobs in the planning stage at one time. We have completed over 180 repair jobs in the 11months using the system, and I could not imagine trying to manage this much work without it. Out of the box, BuilderTrend is fairly intuitive to use, but there are nuances that should be learned to increase the user benefit. Training is always available and we discover more ways to use its functionality to streamline processes and communications. Our scheduling and planning meetings have gone from 1.5 hours weekly to 20 minutes. We schedule meetings with subs with the task function and quickly get a confirmation. This saves multiple phone calls of us and the subs. I can quickly answer questions for management and business partners simply by looking at daily logs, internal notes, schedules and pictures. The job list allows us to forecast and track our goals and find solutions when jobs are held up for any reason. I have freed myself from continuous updating of Excel spreadsheets to being able to pull a job list and calendar list whenever I need to know status. Using the baseline features ensures I don't have to save a bunch of old reports for comparison to track project variances. BuilderTrend is very open to our suggestions on reporting and manipulating report and export functions, and I would like to see more capability in exporting reports. I like their focus on continuous improvement, adding functionality and meeting the customers' requirements. Online topical is available but limited to the basics and I have always found the staff to be just a phone call away for answering specific questions. Overall a win for us.

Comments: I really can't enough about the customer service. They always answer the question I ask. My Customer Success Manager, , is so unbelievable. If every rep I had in my construction was like him, I would have no problems. But, all the other people who answer the phone are great, too. I attended a BTUniversity event, and the event planner, Danielle, for that was amazing, as well. EVERYONE I have ever dealt with (after sales) at BT has the best attitude. They are helpful and lovely and all things good. For those of you who do not know, they have bootstrapped the funding for this company. As a lot of us in construction have done, I find it extremely respectful. The guys who are in charge have done a great job and are very humble coupled with excitement for their business.

Pros: This online management system is so great in every way. It is so intuitive to the construction community. I love the ease of scheduling, the ease of selections, having everything in one place for our team, the level of permissions per team member, and the customer support is off the charts - I don't think there's a rating high enough for them. I used a competitor of BT for years, and it's like driving a Tesla compared to a ModelT.

Cons: What I like least is that I didn't find it sooner and the sales experience...barf. I get why they sell the way they do, but it's icky. Eventually, I forgot about how gross it was because the customer service is unimaginably great! Don't not sign-up because your sales person lacks authenticity and makes your skin crawl. The experience after is totally worth it.

Pros: BuilderTrend had (in theory) everything I needed to make life as a general contractor easy. Everything is all under one software program and seems to interact well with the CRS, accounting and tasks. We have only used it for a month so we're still figuring out all it can do. Having our own account manager has also been essential. I call him or his team when I need help or assurance that I am using the program correctly. It is helpful to have a live person. It is also helpful that he will send me vids with instructions on how to do things and I keep them flagged so I can refer to them whenever I need. I'm relatively tech savvy, but the software is easy to use. Having done things manually for so long it has been an adjustment to automation. For example, I am used to downloading documents into different files. BT will file documents and attach them to the job automatically. When I get quotes from subs, they integrated into the budget (once accepted) and I don't have to download and file it independently, then upload the bid to my accounting. Very helpful.

Cons: The SAVE function is the weakest part of the program. When saving information on, say a subcontractor contact page, you will be bumped back to the primary page instead of staying on the current location. It's very frustrating. Especially since it will not automatically save during any function so if for some reason you leave the page or tab elsewhere, all your work is lost. Being a cloud-based program, I would hope a future update includes the auto-save feature so the save button is duplicative instead of mandatory.

Recommendations to other buyers: We chose BT because it had all the key features we were looking for - key notifications (COIs and License expiration) and accounting integration to name a couple. Yet it still had flexibility to add custom fields and use our branded logo. It's cloud-based so we can access the same information in real-time in the office or in the field which may be important to some. Giving our clients access and transparency has help in communication and the emails are tagged with the job automatically so if you are heavy into email, you may find this easier to track correspondences. My suggestion to others is evaluate your need prior to committing to a program. Where is your current "pain" and what frustrates you the most about how you work now. Create a list of your top 5-10 then find the best program that fits your top priorities most and alleviates most of your issues.

Comments: I think there's still a lot of room for improvement. Things can still be simplified and streamlined. A lot of our laborers struggle with and resist this technology because it's "too complicated." Additionally, we get frustrated in the office with the slow load time, the program's multiple windows, and the wait time for a customer's information to load. Not to mention all the different clicks necessary to add an email address, for instance. It's just very cumbersome. Other than that, we utilize this program a lot! We couldn't function without the ability to connect leads to jobs to work orders, not to mention the app is a convenient feature, albeit a little crowded (and, as I said before, "too complicated"). With a little more improvement, this program could be incredible.

Pros: I love the flow of lead to job to work order. I like the ability to create to-dos for the guys and I like that all leads and jobs are archived and can be reached at any point once filters are changed.

Cons: I don't like that there is not a feature to create AND accept multiple proposals in the same job. We often have customers who want separate bids. For example, a bathroom remodel AND a siding replacement. In our company, we have separate salesmen and crews to deal with these things. We would like to be able to create two or more proposals for one customer with the ability to accept all proposals so that we don't have to clutter up our jobs list when the customer is the exact same for both bids. Weeding through duplicate customers, waiting on the lag for it to load and then load and then load again with each click/action is just inefficient. When we should reasonably be able to separate our bids and work orders under the same customer name.

Comments: I started my own renovation company over five years ago after working 15 years for various custom builders. But because of the cost of construction software, it just wasn't in the budget. Over the past five years, I developed Excel spreadsheets and Word documents that helped keep me organized and efficient (or at least I thought so). One day I had a random phone call from one of the Builder Trend representatives (Clint) and I checked out the web site. After the free demo, I was convinced. It never occurred to me the amount of double entering, emailing and communication that I was doing (or not doing). It was easy to understand, manipulate and use. I have used various types of software throughout my career so I was very familiar with how software could benefit a company. However, product out there was very expensive to purchase. What I liked about Builder Trend's pricing structure is that I set the price based on the amount of jobs that I believe I will do in that year. No different than my business plan forecast. And if I exceed that (which we all hope we do), I just contact Builder Trend and they increase the amount of jobs available to me. This also increases the monthly payment but if I achieve my sales, then the minimal additional cost is irrelevant. It pays for itself. With respect to the software itself, the product I used in the past was labor intensive to start up, implement and train. After 1 session, I was easily changing schedules, adding jobs and communicating with trades and clients. Scott was very informative and educated. He quickly and honestly answered all of my questions. In addition, prior to our implementation meeting, I sent in my schedule and trade templates and it was all in the system "ready to go" for me to fine tune. No starting from scratch and "learn as I go". While he taught me Builder Trend, we altered and changed my information to best teach me the ease of Builder Trend. Finally by having a customized page for my clients to communicate with us, shows that we are a legit company and professional. That says a lot in the renovation market. My clients love this as they can view their project at any time. We love it because we can get change orders approved quickly and sometimes even right on site without having to go back to the office and prepare a word document. We make the necessary adjustments through our iPhone and send it for approval. They can be standing right beside us, go into their secure page and approve it right there. I would strongly recommend other renovation/building contractors to lose their old ways of keeping their companies organized and use Builder Trend. It will do nothing but save them time, money and increase customer satisfaction.

Comments: Crimson Design & Construction is a full-service design/build remodeling firm. Like any firm that employs field employees and subcontractors there's bound to be something that gets lost in translation. Communication at times between the field and office employees suffers though we work hard to keep that to a minimum. Though we are still implementing our BuilderTrend software, I (office manager) have found that it helps to act as a liaison between all the important parties - management, design, field, subcontractors AND homeowners. It's a win-win-win-win! Our homeowners have been slow to engage in BuilderTrend, which is unfortunate, and we as a firm need to work to improve this usage (For one, I send messages to clients only through BT instead of email hoping to engage them in the software). It is currently a work in progress. Our subs, however, have responded with far more encouragement then I would have expected. I assumed most would find it to be a "pain" or a "waste of time" however several have informed me of the benefits they have found using this software - mainly being the schedule which they can view for approximate dates on upcoming work. And finally, our project manager now has an IPad on site and is able to essentially view a company folder through the use of BuilderTrend. Adjustments with this are still being made (how often to update, etc.) but we are finding this to be a smooth transition. For me in the office, I love being able to view the schedule at a moments notice. If a sub is not active on BT and calls me I can quickly access any job and let them know their approximate start date. I like having all my homeowner's info, permit info and docs in one easily accessible place. The things our firm is having difficulty with is: 1. The leads. While this is great progress, it's not where we need it to be in terms of reporting so we do still find ourselves doing a little double entry. 2. Selections. We used to enter our selections in the system but because selections are picked before we have a contract with a homeowner we don't generally have owners signed up on BT at that point. Plus we have a tracking form in Excel that we haven't been able to use in BT so we found ourselves doing double entry there as well. I would love for us to be using the Selections tab again if you can implement a tracking form that we can use. I can provide you with an example. All in all our experience with BuilderTrend has been exceptional. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the software is user-friendly, and it's only helped improve our company's communication. We look forward to seeing more from BuilderTrend in 2013!

Comments: We run a busy Design/Build construction team and Buildertrend has been a huge help organising and streamlining our day to day activities. It's great for clients to be able to log in to the app or the website from home to see progress and communicate with us and our trades on all levels of the project. Their support staff are amazingly helpful, providing phone support anytime I need it (even for the silly things I've asked them a hundred times). They're always willing to hear you out. In some cases they've whipped up short tutorial videos and emailed to me as future reference material to save me the trouble of calling in.

Pros: -Client's love being able to see what's happening -Easy to navigate the website layout -Having everything related to the project (documents, construction drawings, communication, selections, pictures, schedules, to-do lists, invoices, etc.) in one place and available from anywhere via the mobile app -Support staff is awesome

Cons: -Mobile app for both iphone & andriod require frequent updates as they continue to improve features -Not as easy to navigate the app's menu layout (things aren't in a similar order to the website) -From time to time external email notifications from the message feature will take an extra 2-3 days to arrive in the external email inboxs creating a bit of confusion. -Missing some small features like a filter on the "pay" option instead of having to either pay all at once or pay each individually (but this is a "serve the masses" issue, customers are always welcome to make suggestions to their resource team and hope enough other customers are asking for the same tweaks)

Recommendations to other buyers: We had previously used Co-Construct which I offer also has wonderful support staff, and great platform however at the time they didn't have an integrated budget feature. Since our company's switch, they have added the feature but because the whole team (crew members, sub trades, admin, accounting, design and estimating) is so comfortable working in Buildertrend we aren't ready to afford another switch.

Pros: The ability for the owner to see the home under construction. Daily logs, photos, schedule, once their loaded, you can oversee many more jobs. Our office can upload change orders and tag a Superintendent, a Superintendent can take a request on site, price, and an owner can execute a change order on site, a freebie confirming a verbal request or a extra. The office can order advance items by watching progress, speeding up build times. We upload all plans, shop drawings, permitting info, making the Superintendent much less reliant on sales/design/office explanations. Easy for owners to communicate questions, requests, and payments. We bought it for the owner interface and scheduling interface, and found it useful for so much more, Lead management, warranty, and mobility.

Cons: For it to be functional the entire team needs to utilize it. We had a few that didn¿t buy in, some were relying on it but not others, and that can be a headache. The schedule is harder than I would like for Superintendent to make changes. Large changes, should be done from the office on a desktop.

Comments: The construction company I'm involved with uses the sub-contractor management piece a lot! It allows us to easily communicate with our sub-contractors and put projects out to bid easily and collect and compare bids seamlessly. We are trying to dive deeper into the customer communication piece, especially for change orders, it will save us/ make us more money. I Love the selections aspect. It takes a lot of upfront work and staying on top of selections. Once we got it all figured out it has been great. Lastly, we rely on the calendar aspect and how it works/ties into the other sections we use the software.

Pros: Overall ease of use and completeness of solution, pricing model, mobile application. I also liked the ability to include subcontractors and homeowners in the project communications - where desired - this can be controlled. Training materials are excellent (videos, live training), the Buildertrend support staff were knowledgeable of the building industry, the home building process and very helpful.

Cons: The estimating component changed and it is more difficult for us to build out budgets than it used to be. Maybe we are making it harder on ourselves but the changes were not well received from the estimating side of the house.

Pros: I like the that it is a web-based application with easy access. I have not used the the cellphone application, so I can not speak about that undoubtedly handy feature, although I have used it on my tablet from various job sites utilizing a "hot-spot." The Log is especially good with respect to keeping track of job site status and incidents. The ability to attached photos and documents is very helpful. Perhaps the most time saving feature for me has been the Bid and Budget functions. The ability to simultaneously send out bids to a group of contractors, see their acknowledgement, and receive the bids placed automatically and notify them of results all within the project is huge. Another feature that has been especially good for me is the ability to create custom fields in Leads and Jobs. This feature allows me to provide specific reports with tailored information in an Excel spreadsheet. As an organization we have not fully implemented the features and functionality available with the product, however, once we do, there will be greater benefits specifically related to accountability, efficiency, and quality.

Cons: It would be helpful to have the ability to create email distribution lists or groups, similar to Outlook on a project-by-project basis. I believe it would be utilized mostly in the Message function, but also could be useful in the Log Notification piece as well. The Leads function does not really apply to our type of business, but at this time I have modified its use to utilize it in a limited, but functional way.

Recommendations to other buyers: Perhaps the most helpful to me is learning the software is to just try the different features and experiment with how they can work best for your specific needs. As I mentioned before, the product is intuitive in most areas. The learning tools attached to the program have also been good sources of information.

Comments: The Builder Trend program has been so helpful for our remodeling company. It tracks everything for each one of our jobs from beginning to end. It starts with our sales information and then moves to the actual job information. The Project Managers can schedule all activity on the calendars, create daily logs, selections and change orders, upload pictures of the progress of the job. The customer can view the progress of their project from anywhere because they get their very own portal to see the progress, the schedule and make payments online. On the accounting end, it keeps track of our estimates vs. actual cost and owner payments. It keeps all parties involved throughout the job. This is a great tool for our business.

Pros: I like the fact that everyone involved with each job is connected by the Builder Trend Program. The personal portal for the customer is one of my favorite features as well as the Financial features. Also, Builder Trends customer support is awesome! Always available and always helpful!

Cons: The only thing that interferes with my working on Builder Trend is when Builder Trend is working on the actual site. Sometimes it runs slow or the site drops. This does not happen for long periods of time but would be nice if Builder Trend could do this after most business hours.

Recommendations to other buyers: Any business interested in the Builder Trend program would love it! Capable of so many more features then I even mentioned.

Comments: First, my background contains over 20 years in software design, management, and development. Working with all the latest .net platforms for many large companies. In 2012 I went to work with Avalon Homes and started my use of BuildTrend. Naturally I was spectical based on my exposure of other sub-par software platforms built and sold to builders. After 6 months of heavy use including every aspect of desktop, ipad, and smart phone options I am amazed at how BuilderTends has designed a platform that enables companies to leverage the software and tailor it for just their needs. There are so many examples that could be given from how companies can use the upload of photos, word documents, excel sheets, PDF documents, and really any type of electronic file and turn BuilderTrend into a powerful document management system. Truly powerful beyond words to a work force that is scattered throughout the state. A feature of the platform that is really under advertised. We are able to store all customers photos of their choices on our site and have the trim carpenters, tile shop, paint shop, framers, etc... view photos in real time as we meet with them or during build time. Truly saves hundreds of miles of driving monthly for us. The uses of the online storage of documents is endless. It is basically a high powered document managment system with very good security that just happens to be attahed to the rest of what BuilderTrend can do. Simple to use from any platform like the desktop PC or smart phone. Each field personnel can adept their own technique for keeping notes, reminders, to do's, schedule items, and request for resources. Then management can easily monitor this as well as the progress of a jobsite and adjust accordingly. The customer side of BuidlerTrend has greatly helped our marketing. Todays customers expect this level of service and technology and finally we are able to deliver thanks to BuilderTrends. I fully expected to build a web suite of products to help our customers stay in touch and us to communicate since the other web based products are so poor. But after using BuilderTrends I dont have a single issue that has not been met. I quickly got up to speed in only hours, and within a couple of days had solutions in place for problems that had existed for years. Yes its Great, their team of developers have done a great job with the infrastructure of the platform and continue to enhance it on a timely basis. Best of class for sure.

Comments: BuilderTrend has been a fantastic addition to our business since we began using it last year. It has greatly enhanced our communication capabilities within our organization as well as our communications with our customers. The ability of our customers, employees and sub-contractors to have all the information they need at their fingertips has made a world of difference. I would highly recommend BuilderTrend to all construction companies seeking to take their business to the next level. I use this program everyday, whether I'm on the road or in the office. The mobile app has made it very convenient to work while on the road.

Pros: Being able to have our entire business function so well within 1 program from CRM and proposals to project management, communication and project financials this program does it all.

Cons: I know this program is designed for project management so most of the focus is on that side and it is helpful to have the CRM side to keep everything in one program. However, the CRM side is certainly the weaker side of the program. That being said, BuilderTrend is constantly improving their program and coming out with new updates so I anticipate the CRM side will continue to improve.

Comments: We have been using BT for 6 months. It has some really nice features. it does take some time to set up cost codes, the schedule, selections templates, etc. But this is true for any construction software. This is our 3rd software attempt.

Pros: The Good; We like the schedule, the mobile app, the customer portal, file sharing, all job discussions are in one place, to do are easy. There are many nice features.

Cons: The Not So Good; The Request for bid module is okay, however to move the bids to an estimate is a mess. All the information comes over all mixed up. The numerical sequence is gone. all the line items are mixed up. It is so bad that you can not do an estimate from the bid. we have been using our old spreadsheets and importing those directly into the budget to avoid the bid to estimate module. The selection module lacks the ability to place a selection in more that one room without entering it again and again for each additional room. For instance, if hardwood flooring goes in 6 rooms you need to enter hardwood 6 times to get it into all the 6 rooms. As a result the selection module is a real disappointment. For now we have just three locations; inside, outside, or multiple. One nice part is the ability to have customer go the module and approve selections and files.

Recommendations to other buyers: Be prepared to spend a lot of time in set up. There is a time consuming learning curve due to the fact that there is a lot of modules, and functionality. So far this is the best option we have found in the price range. We are now considering whether we want to continue with BT or work with an IT company to make Office 365 work for collaboration and continue with our easy to use spreadsheets.

Pros: The customer service is fantastic. We have a dedicated rep who responds immediately and works with us to resolve any issues. Buildertrend also helps us integrate their online tools with our current project management systems, increasing efficiency and creating a very user-friendly experience.

Cons: While we appreciate the scheduling function and its ability to link subcontractors and users to tasks, some of the tools within the tasks are difficult to navigate, such as the successor/predecessor links between tasks. In addition, adding increased options in the views function would enable the user to see the overall schedule more easily.
Lastly, it would be nice to be able to see a high level calendar that shows all active jobs in relation to one another.

Overall: A centralized database for managing projects, clients and schedules.

Comments: We have been using BT for approx 3 years and, overall, the experience has been fantastic. Training and customer service has been outstanding and the product has been a great tool for us both in project and client management. It has raised our game to a higher level in terms of performance and professionalism.

Pros: All of it. It touches all aspects of our business so it is truly a one-stop shop for us. Customer interface is also great. Shows clients what we see so they feel informed and involved throughout their project.

Cons: The estimating component changed about a year ago and it is much more difficult for us to build out budgets than it used to be. Maybe we are missing something and making it harder on ourselves but the changes were not well received from the estimating side of the house.

Recommendations to other buyers: It's great and I would recommend to others but I don't want to lose a competitive advantage.

Comments: On the job side: aside from the jobsite menu and template menu, having a sub contractor/vendor menu would also be useful. On the individual jobsite information I have created many of my own custom fields. However, some that I have created, I would think should be standard for a construction CRM. BT only provides for one permit to be listed. We often have more than one for any one job, also having a "Permit Finalized" date field standard for each permit would be nice. And while you're at it, the issued date and expiration date of the permits would be some good information to have right there. Outside of not needing some of the features because we are only AC and Heating, I LOVE THIS PROGRAM. NOTE: on the next step of this review where it is asking how frequently it is used, the choices are odd in that its Once a day or week or month, I use it ALL day everyday. I find that several of the choices within BT are odd like that, but nonetheless, I still LOVE it.

Pros: This program really helps me stay on top of tasks and everyone else's tasks as well. It helps me meet deadlines and track everything.

Cons: Because our jobs are generally short in nature being an AC and Heating contractor only, its rare that our clients log in and take advantage of the software. The creating of templates in LEADS is not as straight forward as the rest of the program and not easily mastered by someone who has basic computer knowledge. Having to clear my history every day to ensure that I can view everything is annoying. Setting time in LEAD activities is a little weird. Not being able to set activities or calendared items on a 15 minute mark is annoying, sometimes it really is that pinpoint crucial to a job.

Comments: It came down between this and ProCore. ProCore was way over priced and Buildertrend was the perfect blend. Would like if the CRM function would have been a bit more robust than we had originally anticipated.

Pros: customer service and user interface. Not a straghtforward jump right in experience. There was countless calls needed with Buildertrend and the Buildertrend fols seem to shoot from the hip based on what the client is calling about. So then we have two people who don't know what they dont know trying to feel their way around.

Cons: Not straightforward. Requires a lot of conference calls with Buildertrend Customer service. Would have liked it if there was more of an Apple/Mac like experience where there is no need for a customer service or manual to determine how to use the product. Buildertrend is the closest to user friendly than the others we tested.

Comments: Overall I think BuilderTrend has a solid foundation. However I struggle with some aspects of the program that I don't feel are user friendly. Creating POs & VPOs for multi-family projects is not an easy task within BuilderTrend.

Pros: Our subcontractors tell us the program is easy to use from their aspect.

Cons: For example, I would like to create one Electrical PO for each unit and mark work complete as the subcontractor completes a task, but we are unable to link more than one scheduled item to a PO. Also, I would like to copy VPOs from unit to unit. This is a vital process within a multi-family project. When a subcontractor has a change that applies to the whole building we have to break up the that cost between each unit within that building. That means for an 11 plex we have to create 11 VPOs that can't be copied. This can be a tedious process. We aren't able to add job specific trade partners agreements/insurance. We need an avenue to track if a trade partner agreement has been received. Remind the trade partner to send it back, just like a PO. Right now we are having to look at other softwares to do that for us.

Pros: It's a great overall tool to perform and manage the bidding process and project budgets. The calendar tab is easy to use and understand by all parties involved. The change order process is simple, user friendly and functional. I feel this program is a great way to involve the client throughout the building process, making them feel in control unique as clients.

Cons: The selections tab. I think it's a great tool to display the various selections we have to offer to our clients, and gives them a "shop at home" experience on their time. However, it's kind of a dead end tab in the program. It would be awesome if once a client made a selection, that selection would automatically generate a detailed purchase order which would then also jive with the budgets tab. Automating or creating a marriage between those two tabs or functions would be great, especially for those users who are in a more production style of building.

Recommendations to other buyers: The program really can do so much for you, from sales and leads, to purchasing and selections, all the way through managing construction and then warranties upon project completion. If you take the time to educate the users of this program, take the time to input the data, and get everyone on board, it can really make you efficient with your time, and hopefully help identify the areas in which you may be lacking as a builder throughout the home building process.

Comments: My husband is a general contractor and we design and build home renovations, remodels and additons. We've been holding steady the past few years but our clients definitely expect more bang for their buck than before. We've really had to step up our customer service. I started looking for ways to give our clients an interactive scheduling tool and heard about BuilderTREND from a fellow contractor. I was happily surprised to find how much more it offered than I had envisioned. In the past, our communications with clients, employees and subcontractors was not organized and we found ourselves typing the same email, writing the same lists and making the same phone calls several times a day - with the potential of important information getting lost or forgotten. With BuilderTREND we have a place for everyone involved to see what's going on and no one ever has to be out of the loop. The convenience factor is huge! Our clients love looking at where their job stands, who is going to be on the job each day and what selections and decisions they need to make. Our subs are on board and are telling me they wish everyone they worked for had BuilderTREND. And I no longer have to spend 4 hours each day making sure everyone is on the same page - one visit to BuilderTREND and that part of my job is taken care of in less than 1 hour each day, leaving me more time to make sure our clients are 100% happy. We've had BuilderTREND for a couple of months and are only beginning to scratch the surface of all the great things it can do for us! It's easy to schedule training calls and any time I've had a question all I do is pick up the phone and there's always someone there who can answer it and give me pointers. Since our business is based on client satisfaction, I can truly appreciate the quality of customer service from BuilderTREND - everyone there that I've spoken to has been professional, helpful, PATIENT and super nice. I highly recommend BuilderTREND and look forward to learning everything it can do to keep my clients happy - cause that's what it's all about!

Comments: Virginia Homes is a semi-custom home builder - approx. 20 closings/year. About 4 years ago, we had to let many employees go due to the economy. We decided to start using BuilderTrend to help us better communicate with each other and with our customers. It has completely changed the way we process paperwork. All of our change orders, in the past, had to be hand written, signed by the buyers, faxed to the subcontractors, waiting for confirmation of fax received and then manually added to a spreadsheet to keep a running total for the customers. Now - we simply add the change order to the system, the customers approve or decline, subcontractors are notified immediately and the total is always up to date. BuilderTrend has easily eliminated 1-2 employees from our payroll. The system is very user friendly and customer support is outstanding. The calendar has been great for the customers - they can see what is scheduled to happen to their home for the week as well as see what task items they need to take care of, such as selecting appliances, interior finishes and cabinets. We upload photos of the building process once a week. The document storage is a great resource for the customers and subcontractors. We keep building plans, selections, homeowner manuals, community deed restrictions, purchase contracts and other important information. The warranty section has also eliminated a lot of hassles for us. Now the customers input the service request, we assign the subcontractor, the appointment is confirmed both places online and then the service issue is closed. Being able to access this system on our iPhones saves a lot of time. The guys in the field don't need to carry paper files that may not be up to date with them and they don't need to call the office to have someone pull a file to confirm something. The messaging is the one area that could use improvement, seems a little cumbersome at times. It is still a great resource for everyone in the office to see the communication between the office and customers. We are raving fans of Builder Trend!

Pros: Since we started using Buildertrend we have taken control of our business like we had not had previously. It is an amazing resource to keep all client info in one place, and the amount of time it saves daily is invaluable. There was an initial learning curve but we were assigned our Client Service Manager and he held my hand through it all. We started out with weekly, sometimes twice a week, meetings until I was up and running. Now I reach out to Anthony regularly with any questions that may come up. The system has been a lifesaver so far, and we are only utilizing a small percentage of it. Once I master one aspect I take on another and with each new function I am so thrilled. It if wasn't for Anthony, and the client support team, I would have been lost. To many times people are sold a product and once purchased, the customer support goes by the wayside, not with Buildertrend.

Cons: There were some issues with the functionality that did not fit with our business model. I expressed this to the support staff and he took my concerns to his developers to work on adding these items in the future. Primarily having the costs feed directly into the owner invoices. The system is set up for flat rate jobs but Anthony and I were able to come up with a work-around in the meantime.

Comments: Builder trend is the best CRM for construction based on functions available, support and the price. The company is very responsive to our needs. We look forward to the future development of this software.

Pros: Documentation and communications; best I've seen. Scheduling simple and very useful. Access for crews, subs and customers is great. Support is fast, personal and effective. My Rep was outstanding!

Cons: Too many clicks to accomplish tasks. IE add photos = 5 clicks. Much the same for documents. Inconsistencies, IE: selecting employees. In some lists, it is sorted by last name and others first name. Software is quite catchy: visible macros completing Not able to link calendars of jobs. Selections still very confusing for Project Managers and Customers. We have stopped using.

Recommendations to other buyers: Builder Trend is the best choice for functionality and value at the current price point.

Pros: Real time decisions / communications kept in one location creates less paperwork, communications. Lead tracking / reminders is a strong point.

Cons: Estimating software needs development. Not functional for our purposes at this time. Change Orders need categories for cost (sub / material / labor) and ability to add multiples to one change order (ie. Build a niche in shower has Tile Sub costs, Framing labor costs and Framing Material costs). Need to have framing and tile categories both. Down for maintenance...and then there is an issue with that getting caught in cache per HelpLine (kept experiencing "down for maintenance" repeatedly. Was directed by Customer Service / Helpline to "Advanced Settings" in Chrome browser to clear browsing data. This is a software issue that needs to get figured out. Non-intuitive and clients will not understand that if they encounter that issue. I have never had to clear that setting before.... Some things could be redesigned for better functionality / GUI / Intuitive responses. A few examples: Selections = multiple step process is non-intuitive for entry (fields are rather short for description) + clients seem unclear on approval for it. Want to send a Document Notification after uploading to one internal User and client? You cannot. You click notify and you send to all people who have viewing permissions (clutters inboxes and annoys others). I would like to have embedded images in my bid requests and Change Orders and Selections rather than separate jpg attachments.

Recommendations to other buyers: Know the product is still really being developed. It has so much potential to be great, but it is a good starting point and has some very strong areas. I am still learning some of the ways this product could help communicate / share data.

Pros: We work for a commercial construction company. While many GC's use Procore (a lot more money), we have found that BT does everything we need it to do. It offers cost reporting, invoicing, billing, change orders, submittals, document sharing, labor tracking, scheduling, lead management, and much more. There aren't many programs out there that will compete at this level for this price.

Cons: The lead management can be a little clunky to navigate at times. It's integration with Quickbooks could be better. The ability to batch edit clock times would be helpful if you have a larger work staff that is prone to making mistakes.

Overall: Jobs run faster, smoother, and the ability to work cooperatively with document sharing has been a game changer on many projects. Everyone is working from the same set of documents.

Comments: We are an Atlanta-based design build firm. Our core competencies are old house renovation and new construction. We run a lot of volume (10-20 jobs at a time), so scheduling is a major issue for us. Additionally, our jobs tend to be large-scale and 'whole house' type... so keeping track of everything by hand was turning into a major nightmare. We regularly found ourselves behind and missing 'obvious' schedule issues. Communication with subs was manual and tedious. We were forever missing deadlines because someone didn't get the memo. Central communication was very hard, and our phone traffic was immense as a result. We considered Timberline, Co-construct, BuilderTREND, and a few others. BuilderTREND impressed us with its value over Timberline and more robust features than Co-construct. We implemented BuilderTREND in the middle of 2012 when we had 17 active jobsites. Implementation was straightforward, but it has taken us some time to get the entire team on board. After getting everyone trained up, the system has really helped a lot in terms of communication and scheduling. Customer support is very helpful, and the online training is great. It's good, since we work a lot of 'flex' hours and our questions don't always come up during business hours! As a result of our implementation, we've seen a dramatic reduction in phone traffic from subs trying to deal with work orders and schedule coordination. Keeping the entire team 'on track' is a lot easier, and we're missing fewer deadlines as a result. Routine issues (such as, "who was supposed to order the appliances and when?") no longer bite us in the back. Rescheduling is also a great improvement. Automated confirmation means we don't have to make daily calls to multiple subs and vendors to change the schedule each time something gets behind or ahead. We also deal with a lot less phone traffic from customers wondering what is supposed to be happening. The peace of mind is great.

Comments: Very easy to use.

Pros: Buildertrend is super easy to use and very client-friendly. It is also convenient and integrates with a variety of other software, like estimating software and accounting software.

Cons: Although Buildertrend has lots of features, it isn't geared toward builders that do more than roughly 60 homes per year. It gets tedious when accounting software isn't already part of the production software. It also doesn't have a portal for vendors to update their own pricing, which would be really nice. Overall good, but only if you don't do THAT many jobs in a year... it's not quite comprehensive enough for that.

Comments: I would just like to add this is a brilliant and excellent way of doing things for the new generation professionals

Pros: What i love about the software is its ease of use, and ability to be accessed from multiple mobile devices (Android & IOS Tablet, Mobile phone, Windows PC) making communicating easier, simpler and on the go. This means not to worry about traveling multiple locations just to share project updates, photos and information with team. Just upload on the software and make it available for everyone to see. It not just a Electronic document storage platform, it has got scheduling features for project managers, and an email system to send and receive instant updates One of the best and versatile construction project management CPM software, I have come across.

Cons: I think the only con about this product is its price. Turns out to be a bit costly investment if the business does not have multiple large projects running throughout the year.

Pros: It is use friendly, not too difficult to figure out, very forward thinking... by using it you can see that the developers have a good sense of what we do as professionals and have thought of all of the ways we can use BuilderTrend and have built the product with that in mind, very cool! You customer service and technical support is second to none. I call you at least once a week and I think that there was only one time that the person answering couldn't answer my question. Superb!

Cons: There are little edits that I think that you could fix easily... but the process to get something changed is horrible. I don't want to post something on a community chat... I want to send an email and say, "Hey, it would be really nice to have the ability to make my font BOLD or change the color of the type in the log note section... " instead of the way you handle that today.

Recommendations to other buyers: You HAVE to use it for awhile.... before you begin to fully understand the capacity of the software and how it can help you. I truly believe that this product will help us provide better documentation, accurately understand the needs and wants of our customer, and collect money on our projects fast and more efficiently than ever before.

Comments: We've been using BuilderTrend at our company for over two years. It has proven to be a critical part of our business management. We are a subcontractor, and BuilderTrend allows us unmatched functionality in keeping our primary contractors updated on their projects. Prior to BuilderTrend, we were using spreadsheets to organize our jobs, and were fielding multiple calls per day from a dozen different primary contractors on basic information. All that is now at everyone's fingertips, any time, anywhere. BuilderTrend was relatively new when we started using it at Software Advice's recommendation - and we have seen a lot of added features and improvements since then, some specifically at our request! They are always very responsive to concerns and all their customer service interactions have been excellent. I highly recommend anyone in project management taking a look at BuilderTrend!

Pros: The accessibility of BuilderTrend on mobile, ease of use for new clients, and now the ability to invoice and take payments in the field are only SOME of my favorite features!

Cons: At one point, we were thinking of finding a new system because we really needed a specific function for handing off tasks. It turns out, BuilderTrend had this functionality already and I didn't even know it!

Recommendations to other buyers: Definitely take the time to have someone show you the system. While being easy to use, it can also be complex to take full advantage of the features. Their training and support staff are great, take advantage of them!

Pros: BuilderTrend Streamlines the business processes for CRM, Project Management, Accounting and Time Keeping. As an IT consultant, I have spent hours finding a solution, running demos with competitors, learning how they work and more importantly, how they don't work. BT's support is superb!! They answer all support calls within a few rings and provide answers to any issues encountered. They will help with implementation and hold your hand through the process. Your assigned trainer will share their calendar with you and you can easily pick a date and time to work with them to learn and be trained on features you are looking to implement. Accounting is a HUGE feature and it seamlessly integrates with QuickBooks Online. Any issues you have can be added to their portal and can ultimately be resolved by their Development team. I can't see why someone would operate their business without it!

Cons: When I first started with BuilderTrend, the CRM/Sales side had a few issues that support has already corrected. So, they listen and make favorable changes to any issues encountered.

Helps more than you believe for the construction industry making things simpler.

Pros: Great software/app that alot of my customers use to run thier construction business that helps make myself do business with them without having to ask or get the information sent to me when its all there on the site after the have uploaded it. Great way to simplify the billing and change order process from start to finish not to mention all the other things it can do for you

Overall: I use the app to do business with my customers who sign up for it and I am always invited to set up my end to take care of my customers when they sign on to do business with me on residential and commercial projects.

Comments: We at Greenstone Homes are a medium sized residential home building company in New Zealand. Our core business is the design and construction of residential homes. Previously we had engaged the use of several file formats and processes to hold and update information. There have been several options explored by us in the past to align our team and customers in a single tier to aid in the transference and uplifting of information conducive to the construction process. Although many of these options would have given some benefit, Our decision to run with BuilderTREND was the most fruitfull. The ease of use for both client and contractor makes for fast start. The learning curve is short and therefore no issues with a drawn out data input process. The platform is fully opptioned to cater for any specifics and the ability to input and retrieve data by any party is seemless. As our focus is on one off custom designs, clients have an unlimited scope to develop the home they require. This process required a level of detail not found within generic group builders and this is where the BuilderTREND software really gets into its stride. The client feels more entrenched in the project from design through to completion. The uplifting of additions from the client side are requested, costed and accepted with clear and concise records of each specific item. With the use of a touchscreen electronic devise and BuilderTrend software, clients feel the best of todays technology that is quick and easy to grasp. The level of control and input is valued highly as it gives all clients a unrealized perspective on how homes are built. BuilderTrend is a tool that will give any construction company more value than any single piece of tooling or equipment can. It is one of those things that makes you wonder how you got things done before. Thanks again to the Team at BuilderTREND.

Pros: There is excellent support available by phone whenever we have questions, and we are able to schedule tutorials as we require. Online tutorials are available as well. The support staff are highly knowledgeable to provide assistance when we need it.

Cons: The LEADS section is more cumbersome to use and load documents, compared to the JOBS section. One feature in Leads could be set up in a better manner; converting a Lead to a Job "from scratch", the checkboxes to move documents & photos are located at the bottom of the page, necessitating scrolling all the way to the bottom; those checkboxes should be located at the top of the page so they aren't missed. I converted my first few leads to jobs without checking those boxes and info from leads wasn't imported to the job, causing me more work to manually copy info from the 'sold' lead to the Job view.

Recommendations to other buyers: It is crucial to involve several people in a company that perform different roles with the organization to evaluate the software to determine if it will suit their needs. For example: project managers (for Job functions of the system), salespeople (for Lead functions), accounting (for related functions), admin (for subtrades data entry), etc.

Pros: Calendar Job logs! Lead intake Change orders to dos well organized jobs I like the product a lot Mobile works well

Cons: Client side is not very good in my opinion we don't even use it - we have to pay to use another system (Basecamp) - this is a big bummer, if this worked better I would really give it a 10 messaging and email clunky Don't use financial stuff much CRM is very limited in reports

Pros: I love this software because it does everything I need it to. I used to use all kinds of Excell spreadsheets that I created to track job progress, scheduling, client communications, leads etc. I remember thinking with each new spreadsheet I made that there must be something better. Some kind of program related to the field that does everything. When I discovered BuilderTrend I was so amazed, and thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I'm pretty sure I invented it. I just didn't have the programming skills.

Cons: I love most everything about this product. The only thing I don't like is kind of petty. We use the logs very frequently to communicate job progress & updates with our team. When you write a log you have the ability to check a box to send notifications to people assigned to the job. I would prefer that the box would just close when I click to save and notify. As of right now it stays open. What ends up happening is that I miss the message saying notification sent and I end up sending it more then once.

Recommendations to other buyers: You're gonna love it and wonder how you managed without it before.

Comments: We just started using BuilderTrend a few months ago after talking about it for some time. We needed it specifically because one of our jobs required that we complete daily logs, and those logs needed to include pictures that we could draw on. That was the key - drawing on the picture at the time it was added to the log. I wanted to be able to do this in one place as opposed to taking the picture, marking it up somewhere else, then importing it into BuilderTrend. So we have been using it for a few weeks now, for just that one job. So far so good. Our job super has successfully created his daily logs and has not had to ask for any assistance from me (the application manager.)

Pros: Though the setup is not super-intuitive, it was relatively easy. I haven't yet completed it. I especially like that users can very quickly and easily look up a subcontractor's phone number on the app, which should eliminate a lot of calls to the office.

Cons: We just reviewed the financials and found that it will not accommodate our current system of reconciling between our construction software and QuickBooks. We will not be billing from BuilderTrend; rather we will be inputting our bills into BuilderTrend and there is no real way to do this without manually entering each line item. I am hoping to talk to a more experienced rep who may be able to offer a workaround.

Comments: After a disastrous start with a different product that said it was "simpler and easier", I came to Buildertrend. It was advertised as a complete integrated package for builders and remodelers. I am about 6 weeks into the process of setting up the software and being trained in its use, and I am very happy so far. It looks like it will pull together all the different operations of our company, from handling leads to writing proposals, and actual construction.

Pros: It's big... it's complete... it will do everything that we need. It will integrate our office and field operations and make all data and files accessible to all our staff, subs, designers, and the owner, from any device, any where, any time. Pretty cool! Project files are accessible digitally from the cloud... and I can control access in detail.

Cons: Its greatest strength is also, of course, its greatest weakness. It's big... it's complicated... it is taking a lot of time to get set up and adapted to our style of operation. It is going to take time to train all the staff, subs, designers, and owners in the use of the package, but.... I believe it will all be worth it! It will make us more efficient and present a beautiful, integrated interface to clients.

Recommendations to other buyers: Go for it, but figure on a big investment of time until you have it all working.

Comments: Harmony Builders Ltd. is a New Home Builder in Regina, SK. Locally owned & operated by husband & wife, Matt & Katrina Rogina. Harmony is very adaptable and more importantly we do not charge a huge amount of money to be so adaptable. We keep our overhead as low as possible and we can therefore keep our pricing very reasonable. We take on variety of projects, from one bedroom bachelor houses to 2000 square foot bungalows to million dollar mansions. We used primarily spreadsheets and our own computer & paper filing systems. A much slower process. We started with Builder Trend October 4th, 2012. The implementation went very smoothly and quick. With the training sessions and updating our interface took 10 business days. Prior to our decision on buy the product, all our questions were answered without hesitation and well educated on how the software would benefit us and makes us not just efficient but also assist us in standing out from the rest, by giving our home owners a client interface area to track the progress of their home build & for future warranty claims, change orders, purchase orders & much more. Harmony Team has adapted to the software & app quite quickly, with the odd question here and there. Very user friendly and computer alliterate friendly. Builder trend I would say has awesome support quick turn around for email, voice message replies & positive attitudes. They take our feedback for suggestions on how to make the software more efficient for us. We have benefited from Builder Trends in every aspect that it offers. From our Team communication from the sales team to the Site team, Tracking projects is easier, communication with the sub-trades & scheduling, change orders. This has made the process of building much smoother. In return saving time and able to take on more projects with the time efficiency.

Pros: The customizable features with permissions, access, and ability to show notes only staff but not homeowner etc. The homeowner portal is great and allows us to communicate, schedule, keep track or finances and gives the team up to date information.

Cons: Very few things. Occasionally a homeowner will have trouble and not like using it. We use it internally but don't require our customers to. It is meant to help all but they can choose not to take advantage of the technology.

Recommendations to other buyers: There is a learning curve and takes time to find what works for you and your needs but we have found it to be the best money we spend and depend on it daily. It has provided accountability with us internally, credibility and built trust with our customers, helped differentiate us against competition, and transparency between us and our customers. The global messages feature is great. If someone is not available we can go under the global feature to see what has been communicated and allows us to continue and provides a seamless experience for our customers.

Comments: I love Buildertrend. I love that it is an all in one management tool for a construction business. I am better able to handle multiple jobs and be on schedule with is worth the price for sure. Not sure how well it would work with a larger company. For small companies, however, it is perfect.

Pros: This product has helped me out tons! It has the capability of managing basically all of my project needs. I love the interface, I love how it is set up and love the managerial tools it gives me.

Comments: My company specializes in basement finish projects. We do about 50 per year. When I began looking for software, I thought my initial need was to track change orders. There was a disconnect between what happens in the field and what made it to the office to be billed. BuilderTREND has paid for itself just by tracking change orders that might have otherwise been missed. In our market, the BuilderTREND software separates us from the competition. Our clients love the fact that we take the time to schedule out the job from start to finish before we even start. My project manager loves the fact that he can import a basement finish schedule template that he created, make minor modifications, and have a client access to a proposed schedule in just minutes. The ability to 'link' schedule items is key to inevitable schedule changes due to weather, etc. It automatically adjusts the entire schedule to keep us on track. The reminders help us with tasks such as ordering materials, scheduling walk thru's, etc that can otherwise be easy to overlook. We have many military clients that appreciate being able to log in from abroad and see pictures that we have uploaded of the progress, of their project. Telling a prospective client about the software and the fact that they have access to all the features and benefits makes us stand out among the competition. They have the understanding that we go the extra mile to make sure that they are going to receive the best quality service and finished product if they select us as their contractor. The benefits to the client are numerous and the edge it gives our company is something we cannot do without! This is our 4th year using BuilderTREND and we will continue to do so. The initial training was thorough, easy, and very user friendly. I appreciate that the team is constantly upgrading and improving the software.

Comments: We transferred thousands of contacts from ACT when we switched to BuilderTrend. We were only able to transfer 50 fields of data, which left a lot of fields not transferable. Then when we got the transfer done, the new Customer Contact module was rolled out, which BuilderTrend interns had to hand code a lot of the clients into the system (and we did too). It would have been much easier the custom fields were able to accept data straight from our Excel download (that would be my first recommendation - to be able to import into custom fields). You can look at our account notes as to the issues we had. The representative has been a great help to us and has taken the brunt of our frustrations. Each of us has our own issues that we would like to make better. Another improvement that would be nice is to be able to delete standard fields that we don't need (or rename them), and to move the custom fields up to where we don't have to click on the "custom +" to see them. We also have a lot of Leads from the import that could be changed to SOLD but have to go into each one and do that. This is taking a lot of time.

Pros: Scheduling and ease of making leads into jobs.

Cons: Not being able to hide or delete standard BT fields. Not being able to move our custom fields up with the standard fields (we think our custom fields are pretty standard).

Recommendations to other buyers: Do our simple jobs, leads and contacts from your largest clients to see if it will work for what you want.

Comments: Company is very responsive to questions, suggestions and the help is outstanding. This is a great product. My customers love it.

Pros: For one thing, they are constantly added new things. The payroll featured added that sums up my labor cost relative to each employee and hours on the job is spectacular and a huge time saver. The more time I spend on Builder Trend the easier it is to run my business

Cons: I don't like that this survey will not let me proceed to the next section unless I can find something that I like the least.

Pros: The software, in my opinion, was when we bought it, about 4 years ago, one of the best thought through construction software packages I had seen. It actually followed much of the pattern a builder used. At the time BT was designed for new home builders but they wanted to move towards remodelers also. The 2 are similar but very different. I was able to talk with them and they LISTENED! Over the years I have seen many changes and updates, and they just keep getting better.

Cons: Probably that it is not FREE! But since it is not - my biggest grievance is if I want to move out of a window and forget to save there is no popup reminder to save work before leaving.

Recommendations to other buyers: Try the software. Check out how it flows with your work flow. Check out the ease of use and training that is needed and available. Check out access to the help desk and who is staffing the desk. (The programmers are the best to staff it. They see what they do right and what needs work and why.)

Comments: At Hammer Contractors, our clients have come to know our team to deliver not only an exceptional level of craftsmanship and service, but also a building experience that surpasses the "industry norm", from their first phone call to years after we have finished their remodeling projects. BuilderTrend's cloud-based software is an essential tool in our company for delivering on those promises, time and time again. BuilderTrend allowed us to manage our design and production calendars, including communication with office staff, field employees, subcontractors, and vendors. There are many competitors that offer similar infrastructures for project management, but BuilderTrend's focus to mobility and simplicity make it a software that we have been able to deploy at almost every level of our organization. In addition, the software goes a step further and delivers a client experience that other competitors just don't focus on. In our company the order of priorities goes: 1) clients 2) company 3) shareholders 4) employees, so it was very important that any software we added was going to follow this model and also help us sell and deliver our company to our clients. The clients absolutely love their personal project sites, with updated information and the ability to see up-to-date "running total costs" for their projects rather than filing through stacks of change order and invoice receipts like we had been doing for years. All in all, BuilderTrend does what we need it to do today in certain critical areas, such as scheduling, client approvals, "running total" calculations, and client experience. There are definitely room for improvements, but their customer service team is very attentive to our company's needs and suggestions thus far. This is a product that will only get better and better.

Comments: Buildertrend offers a very thorough project management software for home builders. We primarily use the budgeting, sub-contractor, and scheduling portion of the software in our daily business. The budgeting portion allows for the ability to schedule and submit PO's to sub-contractors as well as submit invoice payments directly into our QuickBooks Online account. The platform for communicating with our homeowners throughout the project is great and allows them to feel like they're part of the construction and allows us to get change orders approved quickly.

Pros: Their customer support is very responsive, detailed and nice. If there is something you need that the program does not offer, they put it on their development list.

Cons: In some aspects such as billing the Change Orders, the learning curve can be a bit steep. But again, the support is great and they will take you through any aspect of the software and help you out.

Comments: Our design & build remodeling firm was looking for software that would allow clients, project managers, trade contractors, and vendors to look at the same information, at the same time, from any internet portal. We wanted to keep our projects on schedule and on budget; so finding a cloud platform that could be continuously updated was very important. Keeping all of the critical project information, including e-mails, in one place was a huge selling point for us in selecting BuilderTREND. Prior to BuilderTREND, information was scattered among many different sources, none of which were internet accessible. From day one, we found BuilderTREND intuitive, adaptable, and productive. Our clients love it and it is a great asset to show it off during sales meetings. Our trades and vendors love it too, they don't have to wait on us to request proposals, they log on and look at our current projects in design. The BuilderTREND team offers the best (no exaggeration) technical support I have ever experienced. If you submit a 'help' e-mail, they will call within a few minutes to guide you through the problem, often offering more than one solution. In addition to the tech support, the developers are constantly upgrading the features on BuilderTREND. It was great when we first started using it, and now it is even better! Their web design people make the BuilderTREND site look as good, or even better, than our own website all the while using our logos and color scheme. If we only measured the time saved in getting selections and change orders approved, BuilderTREND would have more than paid for itself. If you include the increased client satisfaction, tighter scheduling and ease of communication, the benefits are staggering. I would highly recommend BuilderTREND to any construction company of any size.

Comments: Customer Service rep is awesome! He answers any questions right away and is always available for training sessions and assistance. He also listens and understands our needs. I have even seen some of our suggestions incorporated in the last few months. Nice to have a company that listens to its customers.

Pros: CUSTOMER SERVICE User Friendly with easier items Did I mention Customer Service Listens to feedback.

Cons: Matching with our current system Admin side doesn't currently offer enough customization options to match up with what we are already doing.

Pros: I love that there are constant upgrades to the system and that they are always looking to improve. I love the tech support people, they are very helpful and courteous - and don't hesitate to ask another tech if they cannot answer my question. This saves me time! I LOVE the plug in to Quickbooks, I can't even tell you how much time this saves us. I just love that they constantly improve, like the on screen markups, the Change Orders, etc. There's nothing I DON'T like, and only a few things I can think of to improve on.

Cons: I don't like that you cannot add notes to the budget screen. I can add notes when I add the estimate, but life would be much easier if I could show those notes on the budget screen.

Recommendations to other buyers: Don't just look at the bidding and budgeting options of this software, talk to your other users, i.e. accounting and field reps for their input. BT is a much better all around option.

Comments: User of almost 5 years. Custom Home Builder 10-15 Employees Very Good system for managing selections, change orders, documents (plans, permits, spec sheets, etc) and a schedule.

Pros: Change Orders and Selections are excellent. Enjoy the photo upload features. Continual updates of product.

Cons: Scheduling system is not as strong as we like it to be. Entering To-Do items is time consuming - needs simplification The "Open Assigned Items Report" in the Vendor section needs work - grabs old, outdated information.

Pros: I like how it you can share stuff (documents, purchase orders, change orders etc) with sub-contractors and the owner. Really helpful because soon we won't have to email/post paperwork to sub-contractors and our clients. I like it how there are leads on this system and you convert to a job - everything is already there, no transferring stuff from one program to another - ALL IN ONE PLACE!!

Cons: It doesn't auto-generate a Lead # when you create a new lead - i think this would be really helpful. And it would be good if the lead number was carried over to the Job Number. Also the cost-codes you can't save a price to a cost code, therefore every time you do a purchase order you need to manually enter the price for any cost code you add to the order. It also doesn't account for GST (Goods and Services Tax - in New Zealand), therefore if a purchase order gets approved and then "Paid", it comes up in Xero as having no GST, when it should have. It's just a matter of changing it to include GST manually but would be good if this was automatic!

Recommendations to other buyers: You have to take time to work out how it going to best work for you. There are so many different things you can do on this program it can be overwhelming. But it's excellent once you've gone through the whole system and worked out what areas you're going to use and how! We are still in the progress of implementing this program but we're confident in the next 2-3 weeks we'll be into it!

Comments: BuilderTrend is an amazing product! It has completely transformed our business. We use the system every minute of every day and don't know how we lived without it. The ability to have all the information in one place and for our team to communicate with each other (and more importantly our customers) has relieved so much chaos in our business. Our customers say that we communicate well with them and they are well informed about their jobs. We do this through messaging, daily logs, and the calendar. In addition, having all these integrated parts helps us manage the jobs and keeps our team and our subs in the loop. Also, the functionality of the mobile apps has made communication so fast and easy.

Pros: Integration of all parts of the business from the quoting phase through to the selection process and now over to the ordering process.

Cons: Using the Purchase Order section is clunky for us. The system is set up for "labor" PO's with subs. We actually order and receive tangible products for our customers and have no easy way of tracking the order from order to payment to receipt of item. Would love to be able to customize this area to our own needs.

Comments: Builder Trend is the perfect Construction Management software. The features allow for a consistent/ accurate tracking of progress, budget and correspondence. The construction manager can keep the client updated on work as it progresses, request sign-offs for change orders/ increase of scope and allow for trades to submit bids for specific portions of work with their detailed scope of work attached. Once the accountants have the budget template set up/ ( does involve quite a bit of work/ coordination ) then the client is able to clearly see where their project is at.

Pros: Easy to use/ practical for all parties to use daily.

Cons: Budget template/ set up is alot of work.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you have the time to set up the budget templates, it can work perfectly for you.

Comments: We started using Buildertrend a few years ago. We are happy we did. It helps us keep track of schedules, PO's and change orders easily. The customers really like being able to log on and see what is happening with their jobs each week. What I love about it is the ease of it. If I have a question on how to do something, all I have to do is call and someone always answers and is helpful. This is a big deal to me in a world of automated everything. If you are looking for scheduling software I would highly recommend Buildertrend. It is so much more than just scheduling.

Comments: the customer rep has been an excellent coach, and if the rest of the Buildertrend coaches are as helpful and patient (as I¿m sure they are) you¿ll be in great hands.

Pros: A central hub for everything related to our projects. Eliminates double entry. Very intuitive, if you give it a chance.

Cons: I didn¿t find it sooner! Ideal for all types of projects, but maybe if there was an option for that one or two day project (without using up a job space). Maybe a project that¿s below a certain budget only counts as a 1/4 job? This may not make sense to a first time user, but the excellent customer service/tech guys may get where i¿m coming from.

Comments: The product is cumbersome to use. If you need to change a vendor it is an all day project. When they went to the new look it now takes forever to move from screen to screen, you need to click on the same icon multiple times (many time up to ten times) to get it to accept the click. When I called customer service they said you need a minimum browser speed but my IT guy says we greatly exceed the minimum and it is not the issue. It does not integrate well with the other programs we use and therefore creates extra work.

Pros: Since starting with Builder Trend 3 years ago they have grown their CRM out to include 95% of what we needed as a construction company in the restoration business and they are continually implementing new ideas to make our business better.

Comments: the software is really cool that it has all sorts of different features. Also the calendar is a great toll when checking scheduled jobs when customers call in.

Pros: This software is a good tool for the building market. Now all we need as for everyone to use it so it's easier to communicate with the builders through Builder Trend.

Cons: The only con for me is it slows up in the afternoon and it takes a little while to save new PO'S and check on Jobs.

Pros: Reliability - You can depend on it be up and running 24/7. We sleep well at night knowing all of our information is continually stored in the cloud. Customer Care - You get to speak to real person who takes the time to listen and help assist us with every question or personal training we may need. There is not voicemail hell! They answer their phones. Rarely do we need to leave a message. If a message is left, we get a return call. Trust - We value the level of confidentiality and trust that all our information and is respected by all employees of BuilderTrend. Keep up the good work!

Cons: Honestly, our experience has always been good. BuilderTrend was recommended to us by another builder and we were told that we would not be disappointed. We are extremely pleased with the product and the vendor. The personal recommendation was important to us. The only suggestion I would have is that they extend the number of spaces for titles to file folders.

Recommendations to other buyers: I would suggest that they take the initial one on one telephone training. If you have never worked with a construction management software package, the amount of information can be overwhelming. Most of all our eyes were immediately opened to the added value this product brings to our company. It cover every aspect of the managing the building business. We consider BT as one of our most valued Trades Partners!

Comments: All software programs require a learning curve. Buildertrend is extremely user-friendly. In addition, the support team is exemplary! They often go above and beyond when posed with a question as to how to handle an item. In particular, I just had a call with Anthony and it was amazing at how tuned in he was and how willing he was to "dig deep" to solve my issue. In the time I have used this system (close to 2 years), I have had only positive experiences!

Pros: I love that Buildertrend allows me to keep all information pertaining to a particular job in one place. In addition, here are just a few of the items I take full advantage of: 1. Change Orders 2. Selection Approval 3. Messaging 4. Payments 5. Documents related to job (quotes, orders, etc.) 6. Calendar 7. Lead Management 8. Lead Activities 9. To Do (especially the checklists!) The list could go on and on and on.

Cons: I write lots of notes in the To Do checklists. Sometimes I run out of room. There IS a workaround so this is not a dealbreaker. Not too many cons. It's all positive!

Comments: J. Schwartz, LLC Remodeling and Fine Homebuilding is a multiple award wining, Top 500 Remodeler located in the Philadelphia suburb of Malvern, PA. We tailor our project management to our clients specific needs, and pride ourselves on our responsiveness, quality, and accessibility - all of which are helped by BuilderTrend. I am happy to take the time to write a review of an exceptional product. BuilderTrend is easy to use, simple to start up, and easy to teach to your supers/leads/and clients. I have had only a few questions asked by clients after the initial (very short) introduction that I give them. We are now using BuilderTrend for our third year, and although we were happy with it when we first started using it, it has become exponentially better as the time passes. BuilderTrend has not only helped us tailor our communications process with our clientele, it has actually helped our sales and marketing efforts as well. Through the use of the Change Order process on Builder Trend, we have increased the approvals of Change orders by more than 50%! Although we are not high-pressure, the process allows homeowners to review CO's in the comfort of their own homes, on their own time - and this seems to make for a more relaxed feeling that leads to more sign-offs. As far as bonus marketing - We have seen photos with our logo all over Facebook! We originally placed these on BuilderTrend and clients have subsequently posted them to their Facebook pages - and this has lead to sales calls! When we have had questions about the system or its uses, we have called and received immediate help and resolution - there are certainly no issues with the response time or the knowledge of the product.

Comments: We have been using BuilderTrend for almost a year now. We chose this software after reviewing many others. We love the scheduling aspect and the ability to sync with our accounting software.

Pros: I love the ease that the system can be maneuvered around in - between multiple job sites and different screens - PO's are easy to send to vendors straight through email and they tie directly to invoices in our accounting software

Cons: The customer service, when dealing with a minor issue is very good. However, when getting into "second level" or critical thinking elements, the company currently has a hard time responding and solving issues. The budgeting tool is very good on an elemental level, but once complicated change orders occur, the system currently can't keep up

Pros: Invitations to bid are easy to see and organize either by client name, project, time to complete. Simple process to add a bid or RFI. Can even bid the number of days project will take to complete.

Cons: Once you have been awarded a project, seeing the Purchase Order is easy. Actually viewing the Purchase Order is a different story. More steps than it seems would be needed, to even view a PO you must download the file, give it a unique name then you can open it.

Comments: BuilderTrend software and support are value added for my company. Implementing was easy and technical support quickly addresses any questions. BuilderTrend has allowed us to focus on and improve internal processes resulting in better project management. Selling jobs is easier when customers realize they can track the process and progress from anywhere. They love our photos which they are able to share with friends and family. Our customers really enjoy the peace of mind BuilderTrend provides them with the knowledge they can monitor and see the historic data has well. We have found the change order feature helps our customers understand the cumulative affect of C/Os and prevents "sticker shock" at the end. We recently remodeled an Antebellum Home in Natchez, MS, just over 145 miles from our office. The owners were living South Louisiana with one of the owners working in San Francisco, CA. The first thing every day, the owners logged on the BuilderTrend website to check progress, approve change orders, material choices and colors, etc. Considering the distances involved for all parties, this project would have been a logistical and communication nightmare without BuilderTrend. We currently have a jobs in Hattiesburg, MS with owners as far away as Oklahoma and South Carolina. BuilderTrend is a blessing and a must in an ever shrinking world with tighter and tighter profit margins. I've always heard and believed "there's always room to improve" and with a great product like BuilderTrend, I can hardly wait, because it's hard to image a better solution, so improvements must be fantastic. I'm sure the BuilderTrend team has already started on some new features.

Pros: BuilderTrend is very easy to use for our entire staff; from sales to construction and it's a great tool for our clients to stay engaged throughout the build.

Cons: Our company has 3 sales people and I can't see my colleagues leads. This is a problem because we have had duplicate leads in the past where we have resisted the same client. The fix would be to allow each sales person to see the entire list of leads but to only be able to modify the own leads. Or, if the lead's contact is already entered under a different sales manager, then when I go to enter that same new lead it should notify me that the lead is already register under John Doe's leads.

Recommendations to other buyers: BuilderTrend has so many tools within itself. I would recommend evaluating each phase of it's use. Once purchased, use it to it's fullest because it is a wonderful program.

Comments: We are a small civil construction company that employs around 50 people and we were still doing all our daily reports on paper, and taking photos with a camera. I felt that we would be in a much better position if we modernized, so my boss let me look for a software to help move into the technology age. I spent a month or so looking at all the available options ( there are a lot of them) but comparatively BuilderTrend was the one that seemed like the best place to start even tho they are more geared towards residential we were able to begin to do daily reports with photos from the field and the guys were able to clock in on their cellphones using the proper coding for what ever tasks they might be doing that day. It enabled us to see where we are in the submittal process as well as to see RFI's to get answers to questions we had in the field. All in all I would say it has worked out pretty good for us and the more we use it the better it is. The support team at Buildertrend is readily available and always willing to help

Pros: Being able to access information from either my tablet or my phone when I am in the field.

Cons: They do not have a formal submittal or RFI documentation set up but they said they are working towards that.

Recommendations to other buyers: For the money it is a good place to start.

Pros: Customer service is very good, with good support system. Product itself is one of the top 3 for ease of use and mobile access functionality.

Cons: I don't really dislike anything about the vendor. The product / system as a whole is good but I do feel it is missing some basic features and some areas need some work on the App side of the system particularly when using iPad ... For example there is no way I would even attempt to adjust a schedule via the app.... I would be there for days. Speaking of scheduling... It needs some things added such as percentage of task completed and the phases should be able to be moved / adjusted as one in the schedule..... If UDA software can do it I know it's possible.

Recommendations to other buyers: Good solid software and vendor, cost could be an issue if your a smaller company but you could have more then 6 jobs going. This or any online management software has its place and can help out a lot but remember it does not run by itself and can talk a lot of your time just imputing data to in turn hopefully make you life simpler or more organized, but it can also add more work then you are use to doing and if you or your company does not employ computer savvy people this could be an up hill battle.

Pros: We can keep job details available for on site technicians. The details can also be made available to the homeowner and also subcontractors. Change order management is so much easier with the ability to submit and have the customer approve and pay for Change Orders. No more running papers around!

Comments: It is a great management tool, very practical and easy to use. It only lacks a robust scheduling tool.

Pros: Reliable and Fast. You can concentrate on each job, no more loosing time finding emails or pictures of the job. You make each team member accountable.

Cons: Poor scheduling. I used Primavera in the past and mainly scheduling, so it was the most important aspect for me in my experience. Buildertrend's features are a trade off, you can't be so detailed in controlling "time" but you control so many more aspects of the job I never imagined.

Pros: BT has been the missing piece our company has been needing for a long time. We struggled with communication among employees and clients, now all conversations are right in one place for everyone to see. Not scattered between multiple employees emails or written on post-it notes. Having files accessible in the office or in the field has solved so many issues as well.

Cons: The PO system is "clunky". Too many layers and tabs and things to click. If you forgot to click something that can end up biting you later.

Pros: All information can be found in one location for all aspects of a project from the initial lead, to document management, photo sharing and scheduling of a job. We truly value the customer interaction that it provides with our homeowners being able to log in and see data on their project, as well as it recording all interactions.

Cons: Availability. We have issues with the program being down a lot, whether for maintenance or just not working at all. I have worked with the Builder Trend team and have determined that we do not have connectivity issues with our internet, so it is not that causing downtime.

Recommendations to other buyers: You will get out of it what you put into it. If you have buy-in from all levels within your company to keep up with the data input, then the system will truly provide value to you. If you lack on inputting, then you will not get out a full picture of a project to the full capability that BuilderTrend offers simply said. This is not an estimating program, but more of a project/customer management tool.

Our company has been using BuilderTREND for about 1 1/2 years now and it has really made a difference! Our clients especially LOVE being able to see the posted calendar schedule--knowing when to expect certain things to happen on their home. They also really enjoy the ever-changing pictures of their home in progress. Since this was our first time using software of this kind, it has really been nice to have everything electronicly available for any job from any location--which is usually on the jobsite but it has even been nice to be able to access job information while we or our client has been on vacation! BuilderTREND was an easy program to learn and our clients have had no problem picking it up quickly too. A few of my FAVORITE things or things that have made my job easier are the color-coding of specific responsiblities--at a glance I am able to see what I need to complete, the email notifications--whether they are reminding subs of expiring insurance certificates or notification of their expected arrival on our job, to the paper trail of emails all being in one location--that pertain and are necessary on every job, to the dated and confirmed client selections that may have been made months in advance and I am expected to remember but sometimes need a "refresher" on what each client is expecting to be supplied on their home. There are so many more features that could benefit EVERY home builder in the industry--these are just a few I like. I highly recommend using BuilderTREND--you'll not be disappointed.

Comments: Parkview Homes is a multi-community hometown builder in Peterborough, Ontario that has been in business for 25 years. We sell approximately 100 homes each year, and continue to grow. As we have grown over the years, we have discovered the need for a shared location to maintain customer files and information. BuilderTREND has proven to be a very functional place to store data, documents, photos and other personalized information about our purchasers and homeowners that is used throughout the organization. This database allows site staff, office staff, decor staff and sales staff to view, manage and store useful information. Before we started using BuilderTREND, someone working on site who needed info on a customer would have to call into the office, or come in to get the necessary information. Now, on-site staff are able to access the data directly from their Blackberry or tablet. We have now been using BuilderTREND for well over a year. The implementation process was a little tedious, but fairly smooth overall. Getting staff on board with the new technology was the first hurdle; once this occurred, the rest was smooth sailing. The system has also improved over the past year, and is very easy to use. Our customers benefit from the system by having access to their documents and photos, as well as the project calendar feature. They love checking into the system to see what progress has been made on their home. Our long-distance customers, who can't regularly stop by to see the building process, particularly appreciate this feature. The staff at BuilderTREND are the best, and very supportive in assisting us throughout the process.

Pros: I like that the clients can see what we are expecting to happen each day. I think it is great that we can set up a profile for them. It limits confusion in regard to what we have said and what we are saying now. Change orders being posted on there has really helped us track pricing and monies.

Cons: The whole system just tends to feel a little clunky. Moving dates on the calendar and adding resources, it is not always intuitive and that can sometimes make things more difficult than they need to be.

Three months into first use.

Comments: Overall very good program. I am happy with most of the features and options available, would like to see a few more features integrated that I'm sure are yet to come.

Pros: Just recently began using buildertrend, I have been pleasantly surprised with the amount of features that are available. It works very well for our company. I am able to follow different departments of the company and how they interact with the customer.

Cons: Seamlessly switching between customers takes some time, as well as switching between tabs for the same customer. I would like a few more features in the ability to highlight customers based on certain criteria (ie. highlight customers who have not been contacted within the last week/month/period of time). I went through a struggle pulling customer information to a different program that did allow me to highlight customers based on different criteria.

Pros: Feature rich Mobile app is packed with almost 100% usability compared to the website Good customer support

Cons: Not a lot of customization with the system but I think that is changing. Notifications seemed to be hit and miss.

Pros: It's easy to use, generate reports, and find information. It's a great tool for us to allow our trades to see the documents/plans that they are needing as well as communicating to our vendors as well. Anytime I call with questions or issues, I always have received a knowledgeable customer service agent that either will help right away or will call me back once they are able to find the information needed.

Cons: One of the biggest issues I have is when Buildertrend goes down and we are not able to access the program.

Recommendations to other buyers: We will randomly get updates, without any notification, over night and have to figure out things out in the morning. Maybe sending an email or have a pop up on buildertrend with what was updated, how it affects the company and an easy way to work around it or how to use it would be good.

Pros: The daily reports, to-do's, and the general interface are very good. Overall is fairly easy to work with and the software is very friendly. It works well when all the systems are integrated but it limits your accounting to quickbooks to be fully integrated.

Cons: Hate the scheduling software. It's slow and clunky. They should find a way to integrateMS Project into it. The document control system is not as friendly. The emails have to be generated from the system in order to be integrated into the software so if someone direct messages and does not reply all, message is not included in string. The accounting is not part of the software, instead it relies on sync with outside software.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you're going to commit to this software, it works best if all modules are integrated. It's really designed ot be used all together not as a part of multiple softwares. Do consider the accounting integration with quickbooks as it will make everything else run much smoother.

Lives up to the hype!

Pros: This is a great communication tool. With all the information you put in, it is easy to pick it up from the other side for our contractors and trades. The schedule is a fantastic way for everyone to see what is going on with each job. With the scheduled items, you can attach notes and files, notify a contractor of an upcoming task or notify a contractor that they are no longer required for the job. It keeps record of all correspondence, this eliminates the need for having to save down into desktop files.

Cons: It is hard to fault, many of the issues I have experienced, the service team are quick to fix or review.

Recommendations to other buyers: Take advantage of the free customer support service team. The team at BuilderTREND have a fantastic customer service team and have been more than helpful with any questions or queries our team have had. Bare in mind the service team are always making improvements to the system, and listen to any ideas or suggestions you may have. Look through the BuilderTREND reviews, because 9 times out of 10, one of the many other users would be/would've been in your shoes! This software has astounding reviews and definitely lives up to the hype.

Pros: It keeps all the warranty service things in one place for our clients. We like that it contacts the vendors for service requests all through email. I work in this software all day every day and it is user friendly. Our vendors took to the program pretty quick.

Cons: Sometimes it sends too many reminders...our vendors don't like getting quite that many emails.

Recommendations to other buyers: The Calendar is a huge part of it for our job here. We GUARANTEE our walk through and closing dates for our clients so for them to watch the process scheduled out in front of them they always have access to the schedule...this gives a comforting and reassurance their new home is on track. We run our entire service department from this software. Punchlist, Year Ends and Service Orders are all tracked and completed this way. It makes it very easy to know everything that is going on with a job.

Great start, but need refining

Comments: Buildertrend has some nice features that have helped our company with scheduling, lead management, and change order tracking. We have been frustrated with its lack of ability to interface with accounting and no longer use it for anything regarding estimating or invoicing.

Pros: Change Orders Schedules Lead Tracking

Cons: Lack of integration with accounting Lack of options to customize billing and change orders, etc. Selections are clumsy

Recommendations to other buyers: If you are looking for a complete and thorough system, Buildertrend is probably not the answer. If you are happy with the accounting, maybe it would work OK

Comments: We have been using BuilderTrend for a couple years and for the most part, have really liked the entire system. We do not use everything the system contains but utilize everything we can at this point in time. Most of our clients and subcontractors like having a place that helps them stay organized as well. The only things I would like to see is to add an ability to alter how reports are presented and change how selections work.

Pros: I like how customizable builder trend is and how all inclusive it is. It truly is a one stop shop for all a person's project management needs.

Cons: Buildertrend advertises itself as a software where a person only has to input data once and it populates throughout. This is NOT the case. Also because it is so customizable it can be very difficult to navigate and use. It can be very hard to try to understand how the software developers intended information to be input into the program.

Pros: - Our clients, trade partners and staff all love the program - There are always additions coming to make the experience better as we go - Excellent and speedy support - Little to no bugs with the program

Cons: - There is no Tax support within the financial area and so we have some learning to go through with how to showcase this within the program nicely - The estimating portion is not very good, so we just don't use it. Which is OK as this is heavy on project management

Pros: ease of use, most cases.

Cons: Job Price List Summary report - great report EXCEPT AND THIS IS A BIG ONE - why are the change order #s not listed on this report. You cannot track the changes and cross reference them to a change order number which makes the report terrible for the clients to feel all information is present.

Comments: We use this software to track our different projects. However, we are a commercial contractor and there are several parts that are not helpful to us and several things that are not there that would be helpful to us.

Pros: Daily reports are easy to use for the superintendents. Job set up is easy.

Cons: Cannot attach enough pictures to the daily reports. When you do attach them as "extras" you cannot download them all at once and it doesn't individually name them, so you have to download them one at a time and hope you don't get lost because they are all named the same. No section for submittals or RFI's. Cannot run reports on multiple jobs at once, i.e. jobs under the same group name.

Pros: It is awesome to be able to store all, photos, documents, emails, and customer communications in the cloud. It saves time by allowing my staff and me to access information at the office while in the field. Record keeping is primarily what we use it for.

Cons: The mobile system is difficult. The system shuts down often and quickly kicks us off the entire application. Another competitor of BuilderTREND is able to take texts and emails through Outlook or whatever the software is and log them into the system without having to click "Reply or Reply All" in the message. People like to text message now; quick is better. It would also be nice to view the messages between staff and clients similar to outlook rather than having to open each email. Lead tracking needs some serious work. The selections area is difficult to use; selections in rooms that have the same flooring should not have to be inputed into each room. I should be able to put a check next to each room that the particular flooring is installed in.

Recommendations to other buyers: Take your time with it and try them all out on a trial basis. We selected BuilderTREND because of customer service, and their sales team did not pressure us. We knew we were buying it; it was only a matter of time before we did. Their competitors were hounds.

Comments: This software has the best support experience I've ever had. I had an account rep on speed dial and it came with unlimited phone support.

Pros: The amount of information this software holds on any given job is incredible! The gant chart for scheduling jobs and the ability to view multiple jobs at once or break things out by job is awesome. Overall I really loved the idea of the software and wanted to love it in day to day use. Nothing else I found gives nearly the amount of detailed information and features in that price bracket. Also getting in touch with support was better than 98% of SAS softwares.

Cons: The interface is extremely outdated and clunky. The layers of pop up boxes make it slow and difficult to navigate through on desktop. The app was slow and difficult to load even in areas of great cell coverage. Overall it didn't work for our company because the cumbersome user experience made it so that it didn't save us any time. It could have been amazing but it just wasn't.

Comments: I manage all of our documents using builder trend and every week I seem to find a new function that works for our company.

Pros: The ease of use

Cons: Not being able to look at multiple jobs at the same time no reporting functions

Recommendations to other buyers: Builder Trend is an excellent product and works for all different size building companies. The customer service and tutorial videos are extremely helpful.
