It can't do everything--but the things it does, it does very well. Perfect benefits, payroll, and PTO management for new startups. Pros Zenefits has a super easy to set up and use interface for benefits, payroll, and PTO management. Cons While the product is great, their customer support could use some work. " April 10, 2018 5.0 An easy to use interface and a tool that allows our employees to electronically and seamlessly on-board. I enjoy that the tool automatically reminds the end-users to complete tasks and keeps track of everything in one useful tool. I would like to see it become an intranet for employees to access company specific templates, content and tools. Pros What I like most about Zenefits is that it allows our employee on-boarding process to be completely automated and electronic. I love it! Cons The software I like, but being an earlier adopter, there were many growing pains within the company which caused a lot of issues with our open enrollment for two consecutive years. We recently resigned our contract and based on what we need, went with the basic (silver?) plan, which doesn't include Vacation Tracking. We don't need all of the HR support since we're a consulting services company. With that said, I'm disappointed that we weren't grandfathered in to having that tool. Review Source DM Dustin M. November 13, 2017 1.0 Loved the idea of the concept, was basically sold on idea to have a PTO software that we could use for employees to use without a fee.. then once all were onboard, we had to pay per month and now you can't even call for assistance when you have a problem. Pros Has a mobile app that employees can access from virtually anywhere, can see a shared calendar that will display in outlook with employees scheduled off. Cons No customer service phone number, no email addresses for specific reps, customer service must be contacted online thru a job ticket (if an account is locked out, can't even submit ticket for contact and no phone number to call), managers don't have access to the employee review sections (must grant managers admin rights, which then opens the door for past requests to be deleted by an employee.. big problem), system was not set up properly and allows for managers to approve time off when employees did not have the time available.. no pop up that would ask "are you sure?" type thing, can not print an employees PTO time, multiple tabs to even get total time taken/available. Pros Zenefits is generally easy to use, simple to navigate, self-explanatory, and comprehensive. Great dashboard, great navigation, and it ultimately helps me get done what I need to in less time. Cons We've had several repeat errors relating to tax on payroll which has been frustrating. Service has been mixed - sometimes it's really awesome, other times it's been terrible. They need to get payroll 100% sorted out to avoid issues with payments. I have never heard of a online software that does the onboarding for new hires, takes care of clocking in, schedules days off. It is so easy no wonder my employer uses it. it even reminds you if you forget to clock out. Cons I do not know if Zenefits keeps track of our paystubs, but it would be nice, my current employer does not have this benefit turned on so whenever I want a copy of my paystub, I have to ask him for it. It is easy to do paperwork online like: I9s, ACA filings, W-2s, COBRA administration, new hire paperwork, etc. The tool also helps companies track time and attendance, time off, and offer a full suite of benefits to employees. I regularly tell others that we would need at least 1-2 additional employees to manage all the things that Zenefits does for us. Cons Zenefits needs to continue to improve their communication to customers, letting us know about upcoming changes to the product and further customize communications to our employees. In the case of requests, like for leave or for work-related, the officials get email notifications which they can instantly check and respond. There is this ClubZen area where you can interact with the other users of the application and provide feedback to the firm. You will find quite a lot of Third party integrations. The graphical user interface is clean and easy to use for both customers and the employees. It is highly customizable. You can even hire candidates, have a background check and send them to offer letters. You can check the employee’s check in and check out times. Cons Customer service and support is not responsive and is time-consuming to get your problem solved. The application is mainly suited for small-scale businesses. Pros I like the customization that users can implement to match the size of the clientele, the specific issues the company runs into, and how Zenefits is accessible to users who no longer work with a company. Cons I don't like how Zenefits doesn't have a comprehensive payroll feature on the level that ADP can provide. She's helpful and gets back to me quickly. Additionally, I feel like my feedback regarding changes to the tools are listened to and I find changes have been made rather quickly. Overall, I am one of Zenefits biggest cheerleaders and think it deserves all the praise from HR leaders. Pros I love how easy it it for not only me but my employees to navigate Zenefits. Having all benefits administration as well as payroll, performance management, time off and on-boarding documents in one place makes it simple and easy to track and record. Cons I know performance management is one of the newest features but it does have a few tweaks that need to be made. Pros Easy to use different levels of accessibility for supervisors/officers etc Automated on-boarding Cons It's hard to electronically sign documents - it would be great if there was an online feature similar to how you would sign PDF documents. It would be nice to be able to organize multiple documents uploaded into sections. Pros Ease of use is good and Digital app for the employees is very helpful. Saves HR time in updating information because employees can do it themselves from their phone app. Cons Very poor customer support. Limited update and communication. I have open cases that are still open. Account rep is very nice but there's nothing he can do. If I talk to a live technical rep, they often give varying opinions, so it's confusing. Uploading renewal of Benefits package too cumbersome and I have been asking for someone to walk me through and I never got any response. They close the case when it's even resolved. After sales support is really very bad and that's where it's most needed. Finance Manager Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Pros & Cons of Zenefits" January 11, 2018 3.0 It works great for new employee enrollment, however, it is sometimes hard to figure out where stuff is in each of the sections from and administrator point. Pros The platform works well for small companies as an HR platform. Employees can sign up for the insurance through the Zenefit's platform. This alleviates the paperwork for an admistrator. Zenefits also runs a report showing the benefits deductions for each payroll period. Cons The Zenefit's platform is "one size fits all", without flexibility to accommodate a smaller company's needs. The software can be very difficult to navigate. The sales people promised Zenefit's would never charge to use the platform as long as they were our insurance brokers. However, about six months after signing up they charged us for using the PTO (paid-time-off) portion of the platform (Bait & Switch). Zenefits support requires continual followup to receive an answer. Also, you have to email or chat them, there is not a customer service phone number. The Zenefit insurance brokers are not knowledgeable about insurance. They offered us a health plan that was not valid for our company, then when they figured that out, the broker commeted that "it was great that we didn't offer that plan to the employees". I expect insurance brokers to know what they are selling, not for me to tell them if a plan is valid or not in NYC. Review Source AO Amber O. The UI is easy to use and processes are straightforward. Customer support is also awesome when we do have questions! Pros The overall "Pro" is the fact it does so much and is very affordable! As a small bootstrapped start-up, having most of our HR functionality in one easy to use place makes a huge difference in effectively managing our employees and adhering to budget needs. Cons The more I work with it, the more I want other processes we use to integrate, which I know they are continually working on. CEO Marketing and Advertising Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Support non-existent" February 14, 2020 3.0 The world was promised, the demo was extraordinary, and everything after signing fell flat. Pros The concept is great, as is the sales demo. Cons Onboarding took from October to February, but I was promised it was a painless few-day process. Yes, you read that correct, February (as in, way later than the Jan 1 payroll switch I expected). At times, Zenefits implementation team would be unavailable for more than a week at a time. There is no logical sub-navigation within the product. I frequently find myself going all the way back to the dashboard to re-enter an area of the software that was missing a sub-nav or breadcrumbs. Many links don't clearly show that you're about to completely leave a section of the portal. For instance, links in the "payroll" app take you to the "deductions" app and the whole UI changes without warning that you're switching apps. I've had to correct Zenefits on: - Incorrect benefit enrollments - Incorrect premium entry - Incorrect deductions - Incorrect contributions - Incorrect wages And when I ask them to fix these things... they tell me to do it via manual entry! This is a payroll software that apparently gets every element of paying someone wrong, requiring manual review on a per-pay basis. " May 14, 2018 4.0 Pros Zenefits does a great job of providing a platform that works to fill the holes in a small business. Their compliance tools are some of my favorite. Cons When Zenefits transitioned to a third party benefits administrator, there was no communication to our company. The only way we knew there was a change was because the benefits admin reached out to us! The same thing happened when they switched us to a third party for COBRA administration. We found out because we were trying to solve a COBRA problem with Zenefits & halfway to the resolution the Zenefits team member let me know that they were no longer our admin.
