Pros: Our office has been using this product since before I started. It is a solid database program and if that is all you want to do is have a large database of contacts, then this performs well.

Cons: I dislike how this is still only available for windows computers which makes communicating information in an office with both Mac and PC impossible. Also, the outlook plug in that allows emails to be synced with a contact in ACT will only link emails to the PRIMARY contact. So that means you have to manually sync that. If you are emailing over 100 emails a day, you end up either spending most of your time manually syncing contacts or just foregoing this feature. Also, you can only add 4 contacts to a company. Often times, we need to have upwards of 6-10 contacts for a company so the inability to add more is a huge issue. And since ACT isn't online, any changes made on any employee computers while not connected to the server means no one else has access to that info until they make it back to the office to sync. Which means our data is never fully up to date. There are so many problems with this software that we often don't try to take advantage of any of the other functions.

Hi Nicole,

Thanks for your feedback!

You're correct that our main desktop product is only available for PC. Did you know we do offer a fully web-based solution, Act! Premium Cloud? This works great on PC and Mac, as well as keeping your data online on our hosted cloud servers.

It sounds like your business could make good use of the features available via Act! Cloud - might be worth checking it out at act.com - we do offer a free trial too.

We'll definitely be taking your feedback on board for future releases - especially what you've said around email syncing. We've got some major improvements planned in this area in the next release (20.1).

Lastly, there should be no limit to how many contacts can be assigned to a company - if you're having issues adding more than 4, I'd definitely recommend contacting customer support, who'll be happy to help.

If there's anything more we can do to help, please let us know!

Thanks again,

Jon,
Act! Social Media Team

Pros: Without ACT I could not compete as well as I do in the sales world for it is changing every day. I need ACT to help track my customers my orders my RFQ's and so many other things without it I wouldn't have a job today. I see so many salespeople who won't invest in ACT who sales numbers could be so much better I tell them about ACT but they don't seem to want to invest in their future and their future sales that could be so much better.

Cons: I cannot find one thing wrong with ACT I have been using it approximately 20 years and never had a problem I cannot say this about other database programs I have had to use when I worked for other companies. Some of them were super complicated took hours of work just to get your data in whereas using ACT it was a breeze putting data in and saving data of all kinds.

Overall: I have been using ACT's since 1999 and this year I turned 74 and I'm still selling with the very best of them. I sell power supplies to industry and without ACT there is no way I could compete in the world of sales today without ACT, I put everything and anything that helps me sell more in a very competitive field including emails, quotes, power supply spec, and notes. I see so many people who will not invest in this program or database if they did their sales would be much higher nobody can remember everything but ACT does. In all the years I have used at never a problem of any kind I do keep it on three computers as the backup just in case there's a crash of one of my computers. I backup my database 2 to 3 times a week making sure I have everything when I need it. The thing I like most about ACT when I go to sales meetings I have all my information right in front of me on my laptop and so many people don't. So when I am questioned about any customer I can look in my notes and have the answers I need, without ACT my sales numbers would be much lower.

Thanks ACT

Recommendations to other buyers: I would like to see more salesman investing in ACT to help their sales grow and become the much better salesman, yes a good database like ACT can help your sales skyrocket if only they would use it.

Pros: At this moment, I am struggling to think of anything positive to say about my Act! experience. Both my boss and I have had problems since we bought it. I have lost entire days' worth of sales time on the phone with their tech support trying to fix issue after issue. And to make matters worse, they keep telling me to give them more money if I want better, faster, more competent customer service. All I want is for the program to work correctly and do what they promised it would do!

Cons: This program is seriously glitchy, and the customer service experience has been bad. I have spent countless hours on the phone trying to get issues resolved. And to add insult to injury, they keep telling me that if I want better customer service and faster, more professional support I need to give them more money. If you believe in your product then, stand behind it and fix it. My boss and I have spent enough time (and money via lost sales revenue) dealing with Act's technical issues already, so I wish they would stop telling me we need to shell out more. After two days on the phone with them, having been escalated to their Level 3 support guy, my Outlook started to have problems immediately after hanging up with him. I have never had a single problem with Outlook since I started using it. Over the last two days, three different tiers of tech support have remotely accessed my laptop, gone into my Outlook as administrators, and messed around with it. Though they managed to fix the mail merge issues I was initially having with Act!, they clearly messed up my Outlook along the way. Now they claim it is a complete coincidence that Outlook started sending me error messages the moment I hung up with their top tier tech guy. They keep telling me the problems are not related, it is solely the problem of Outlook, they are not experts in Outlook, and I should call Outlook's tech support for help. Clearly, it is not a coincidence or unrelated. And clearly, they are confident enough in their Outlook expertise to go into my program and mess with it. And as tech support for a software program that works with Outlook, they should be trained and qualified to work with Outlook in the first place. I have asked repeatedly to have their top tier guy call me back. He knows what he did, so he should be able to track down his mistake and fix it. But they keep saying they can't do that without me shelling out more money. As if all of that wasn't enough, during my last conversation with their support, I had to force the rep to stop trying to get me off the phone and to fix the new problem that had cropped up with Act! just today: the loss of my email history. It took her close to an hour, and she finally discovered that my email history was now gone from Act! because one of the three techs who has remotely accessed my computer over the last two days accidentally replaced my database with a demo database. And even in light of that, she still tried to say that the issue with Outlook had nothing to do with anything their tech staff did. She continued to insist it was all just a coincidence. I told her I felt the time had come to talk to a supervisor, and I asked her to put one on the phone. After placing me on hold once again, she finally came back and said a supervisor was unavailable, and one would have to call me back in 10 minutes. It ended up taking close to an hour to hear from him. He did finally fix the Outlook problem, but when I asked him what I should do if the error messages come back in an hour or two, he said I had to start all over again from the bottom. The whole routine: wait on hold, start with a low-level tech, slowly work up the ladder, all of it. That or pay the fee. The next day, the Outlook error message came back! And I had to lose that day as well trying to get them to fix it. I spoke to my boss, and he said the same thing happened to him a while back, where they tried to blame Outlook. So my boss said he started a conference call with the Act! tech guy and the Microsoft tech guy on the phone at the same time, and lo and behold, the problem turned out to be with ACT, not Microsoft.

Recommendations to other buyers: I would look at other software altogether. Considering all the time, effort, and problems we have had, if we could do it all over again, I don't think we would choose ACT for our business.

Pros: There is absolutely nothing I like about this software.

Cons: Zero functionality. It can't pull any reports that are meaningful. When I think I can pull a report that is meaningful, I realize the data isn't even correct. It has almost no dynamic features; for instance, it can't update data by pulling it from another source; it has to be manually changed, which leads to errors. Also, Act! web premium only works if you have a really high quality internet connection. For example, we have 100MBPS internet; however, the speed is very inconsistent, which causes the Premium web version of Act! to constantly crash every time the internet slows down, while any normal web app would continue to load, or try to load, or just slow down. But Act! doesn't have that functionality; it just crashes, becomes unresponsive, and doesn't save any of the data you just input. When you restart your browser, it makes you sign in again. Also, almost no functionality is available on the web app; you can't delete contacts on the web version; you cannot import anything into the web version, and you can't manipulate any data. You can only input completely new data. It's literally awful. Contacts don't link well with groups or 'companies.' If you have seven people working for the same company and that company moves offices. If you change the address to that company, you have to individually change those seven people who work there. But the worst feature is the importing tool. You can't import in any 'advanced' way at all unless you pay for an importer tool, which you can't be sure will work for you. When talking with our third party Act! customer service person, I asked if I could try the import tool to make sure it did what I want before I bought it, or if I could have him try it for me to make sure it worked, and he said "No. There is no way to provide that service." When asking a simple question like, "So your input tool didn't find the duplicate contacts and just imported 700 duplicates. Is there a way to delete the duplicates all at once? Because all I see is an option to delete the duplicates one by one?" they told me there was no way to do it but that they would charge me to have them delete them for me. And I was quoted at an over 50 hour project quote, for something that took me one minute to do. So I just restored my backup file and started over. Also, I purchased a duplicate removal tool that was developed by a third party software company, and I thought it would work great, but it turns out that half of the contacts in the system had been uploaded with their full name as one fiedl and the other half with their first middle and last name as different fields. There is now way to differentiate this in ACT because it displays them the same way, so it merged all of the John's into one John contact. So again, I had to restore to a backed up database. The Swiftpage integration is awful. The only way I am able to use Swiftpage to any success is to export every single email, name, and address in Act! into an Excel spreadsheet, remove any duplicates, sort by region or the way I want to set up groups to email blast in Swiftpage, go to the actual swiftpage6.com website and upload the spreadsheets into Swiftpage manually. The Swiftpage email marketing HTML editor is also pretty bad. You can write beautiful HTML to display a great email, but Swiftpage mutilates the code in ways no one could ever understand. I am a professional coder - javascript, html, css - and it takes me hours, sometimes days, to design a marketing email that displays correctly in any sort of email client. In fact, it doesn't even ever look great when it's done, even after all the hard work. I would highly recommend any other email marketing company other than Swiftpage. I was on hold with a Swiftpage rep once for over three hours to find out why my email blast which was supposed to be sent by 10AM was still in the queue by 7pm. It actually didn't go out till almost midnight, and we had a 3% open rate, when we normally have a 15% open rate with other email marketing software. Please, please please do not buy this. With a database as important and large as mine, it's going to be extremely hard to switch to another software without major delays in service. The company has used it since 2002, and there is a lot of important data that needs to be imported into to a new system. It's going to cost a lot of money to do, and we will do it, but I just pray and beg that no one else ever has to be in the same situation that I am in if they don't have to be.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you are a small business looking for a cheap database software, I would recommend looking into Microsoft Access 2013 over Act!. It has a web app developer; it actually writes the web app for you. You can then share it with anyone on your network (anyone at all that works for you or with you), and they can open your database in a browser. I'd also recommend Microsoft Dynamics, which is more expensive, but it has a ton more functionality and seamless integration to other MS office software and has a very modern sleek look and feel. And then there are the best CRMs I've worked with, like Oracle's Siebel, but it's just way too expensive for any medium to small business.

Comments: I have used Act personally and for my business almost since its inception. Full disclosure: I have written 7 books on the product as well as the training videos for lynda.com/LinkedIn. I also do consulting work for several other CRM products and wrote a book on SugarCRM. For the money, you can't beat Act. Act has all the power of the "bigger" players without the expensive price point. As newer features are added the existing ones remain relatively stable so that an existing user can upgrade without being hit by a huge learning curve. That said, new users of ANY software product, and specifically CRM software, need to realize that training is essential if they want to unleash the full power of Act. And, like with any other software, support and training is not free - especially if your Act version is several years old. Try calling Microsoft the next time you need help with a spreadsheet or can't get Outlook to send your email and you will see exactly what I mean. However, all Act Premium subscriptions do include free technical support. I urge readers to take some of the reviews with a grain of salt. For example, Act is absolutely the easiest product out there when it comes to a mail merge. Try doing this in Salesforce and compare the number of keystrokes it takes to complete a merge. Another reviewer complains that you can't merge to over "50 contacts;" that restriction is meant to keep you spam-compliant and can easily be overcome by using the built in Act E-marketing Tool. Another reviewer complained that it took "days" to download the software; again, this is simply not the norm and one has to wonder what kind of security settings might have been blocking the ability to download software.

Pros: Perfect fit for mid-sized businesses. Great price point. Only truly hybrid solution that allows you to use Act both on your desktop and in a hosted environment.

Comments: ACT is worth the price and worth the training to get educated on it. Unfortunately you need to spend some time figuring out the details, but once you do, it is off to the races and you will love the system every day. It really is a great product.

Pros: This product allows you to integrate the basic and most complicated processes within your business. I love the email link feature, any time I send an email to a client (who has their email in their account profile), the system automatically saves that email in the client profile. You don't have to search for it in your inbox, or click an extra button to push the details over to the profile, it all happens automatically. The icing on the cake, is now that it is in the client profile, other members of my team can see what emails I have communicated to client, and when they were sent. It helps to keep my team all on the same page. This is by far the best Client Database system I have ever used. AMAZING!

Cons: The biggest downside to ACT is there is not a built in funnel email system. You have to select the group or type of clients that you want to email, export that to another database and then send the communications from there. The system will still tag your emails as long as they are sent from your domain, but having to export the list an use an additional software or service to send the mass email notifications is a little frustrating. If they can fix this option, it would make my life a lot easier.

Pros: - affordable

- easy to use

- high availability

- it offers the most important functions like contact details, addresses, profile images, notes (calls, E-Mail notes, meetings)

- the next contact date can be scheduled, it is clearly visible, when you have to contact the employee the next time

Cons: - Importing and exporting may be good for English users, but for German speaking users there are limits with German umlauts.

- Exporting/printing could generally be improved e.g. to print addresses on christmas cards and letters.

- Changing to other Act! products should be simplified, data must be transferable

- it should be possible to copy contacts

- maintenance shall not affect all users globally. Doing this at night in the US means, we can not work in Europe... Plan maintenance in different time zones.

- nothing is fix, neither employees and companies are. It would be helpful to track changes. For example: When I make notes to an employee working for company X and he changes to company Y, then the notes from company X are still visible and it is not really clear, to which company the notes belong to. It thus requires proper entries in notes. Another example is, when an employee no longer works for a company, I then mark that he is working in "ex. company X", but there could be an easier way to mark changes. It is the same with address changes of companies.

Overall: I can save all relevant information about customers. Multiple employees can be grouped into companies to have them all present, when you need it. If a note is made that affects multiple employees, more employees can easily be added to the note to keep the overview. It allows me to schedule the next date I have to contact and it gives an easy overview about sales opportunities.

Pros: I very much appreciate the degree of customizability of fields. This allows relevance for the type of data I need to collect, store and utilize.

Cons: I started with ACT! when they first opened and used them for many years. Developed a whole recruiting "database" because of customizability, but the program was a memory and speed hog. Took a 5-year, personal sabbatical, then signed up for free trial. I have never had so many difficulties with any software program as I have with ACT! I had expected great new developments, but found that the cloud-based program conflicted with my preferred browsers; the computer-based program was very unstable, with constant errors, shut-downs, and functions that were just not working properly. It has gotten increasingly unstable. Also, today it is necessary for a CRM to be compatible with other marketing programs. The ACT! 18 has very little compatibility. A minimum requirement for it's touted e-mail marketing program is that it would be compatible with gmail - it is not. My hopes of using this program have been dashed - I'm so disappointed!

Recommendations to other buyers: The reason you need a CRM is for building a loyal tribe of customers. Collecting contact information is only valuable if it can be used to connect with your potential and actual customers. Find a CRM system that truly allows you to utilize marketing software to build a relationship with the customers of your various market niches. Also, to do successful marketing campaigns, you need to track your contacts responses with metrics. ACT! has very little capability to do this effectively. Choose another CRM system; one with stability; flexibility; compatibility with email and marketing programs; and local, responsive customer service.

Pros: Organization and logic

Cons: Syncing with Outlook and Gmail can be difficult.

Overall: Have been an ACT user for over a decade. Works well, but syncing with Outlook and Gmail has been rough. Version 19 is much better, but still needs some work. It would be nice if ACT provided tech support for the first 90 days without paying all the time. Also would like to see contact photos added as it is in Outlook.

Recommendations to other buyers: Add contact photos similar to Outlook and iPhone contacts. Improve choices for syncing with Gmail calendar and Outlook. Add symbol to advise owner that the syncing with Outlook or Gmail is working correctly. I always have to check after sending emails to see if really added it to the history.

Hi Fred,

Thanks for your review!

Did you know it is possible to add a photo to an Act! contact? You can edit your contact layout to include a picture field. Once this has been added, you can display any photo you like within the field.

Regarding the Outlook email history attachments, there is an icon that looks like an envelope with a red X which will display in your taskbar if there are some emails which have been sent but not attached to an Act! contact. This is intended to notify you that these histories will be missing and will give you the option of manually choosing a contact to record them to, or creating a new contact from the info provided.

Comments: Years ago Act software helped me build a tremendous mortgage business. Out of that experience, I am reaching out to offer some effective criticism to enhance your product. Good luck! Feel free to contact me anytime.

Pros: I was probably one of the first purchasers of Act. It is a great program that needs a company to put some serious thought behind making it work better. After shopping several other CRM software's I still think it is above the rest in both user friendly and functionality. You price for the product is more than fair (in fact, I think low) but the software runs like it is somebody's part time job.

Cons: Customer service is the worst. The guys in India are great and I have nothing bad to say about them but is there some reason I need to sit on a phone 45 minutes waiting to speak to the representative? Again I think Act could be the CRM leader but I don't see much improvement over the past few years. The principles of this company have sat back and let opportunities walk by not focusing on the customers needs. With all the apps and technologies available Act should have more to offer. When I purchase a product I do not expect to have to spend hours chasing down my answers through videos.

This is the worst CRM ever! I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy.

Pros: It is easy to use when it actually works. I receive emails advising my current version is expiring quite often so it keeps me informed regularly.

Cons: The syncing feature doesn't not always work between the different platforms that we have in our office. In an office of Sales Reps, we need a CRM that will sync in real time but sometimes this CRM won't sync for an hour which makes it difficult for us to schedule appointments for our Sales Reps.

Overall: It is easy to use when it is working correctly.

Hi there Angela,

Sorry to hear that you've had a poor experience with Act! I understand where you're coming from, and you're right that while using our remote database synchronisation feature can allow for very flexible office/out-of-office set ups, it does remove the 'real-time' sync capabilities.

Did you know that our Act! Premium Cloud service allows you to access you data (hosted by us) in real-time over the internet from anywhere in the world?

We really appreciate your feedback, and we're committed to make improvements across the board with every release! I really hope we can restore your opinion of our software with some of the improvements we've got planned in the future!

Comments: Firstly, I'm an Act! Certified Consultant and I sell and provide services around Act! and have done so since 2001.

Although I'm not a client, I have continually had to make an assessment about whether Act! is the right product for our prospective and existing clients.

My personal experience is that there is no single software product that is suitable for every business. If you are a big enterprise, Act! isn't the product you are going to invest in. For small business though it should be at the top of your list to review.

Act! has a greater depth and depth of functionality for the price of any CRM software in the market for the small business users. If there was something that were better I'd be inclined to be offering it to our clients. Act! has been around for nearly 30 years and the many things that you are likely to want to be able to do, Act! just does. Many of the small, simple, day to day tasks will be made easier by your use of Act!. Act! is a product that you will hear many loyal and satisfied clients say that they Love and that they can't do without. Act! is easy to use and it's highly configurable. It excels in a MS Windows environment, so if you are running a server with some desktops and laptops it's an ideal solution. It will run faster than any cloud based solution.

Act! comes with both a Windows and Web based access. You could have some using it on their desktop in the office, and others using it via the web browser. The Web version doesn't completely match the windows version for functionality, but the gap is closing. With Act! you can deploy it on your own server so you own and control your data. You can still have the advantage of a web based login but know that your database is in an environment you control. Act! has a range of excellent third party add-ons that en-rich it's functionality and with a new API in the latest 18.1 version there will be many more integrations between Act! and other web based applications.

If I were to simplfy where I see Act! in the market it would be to say it sits in the middle of the basic cloud offerings like Pipedrive, Insightly, Highrise etc. and the full blown CRM's from Saleforce, SugarCRM and Microsoft. If you are an established business that is looking for a best in class CRM to work on your MS Windows platform and still provide good mobile and web browser based access then Act! is ideal.

Pros: Our server-based ACT Premium 2012 is fairly easy to use and has been reliable. It is easy to look up contacts or companies or to sort based on a variety of fields.

Cons: We purchased this product because we were already using ACT and could transfer our existing database fairly easily to another version of ACT but not to other software. This is an expensive product, expensive to upgrade, and post-warranty support is also expensive. If you want to use it from a company server rather than ACT's cloud you must install the end-user software on a 32 bit computer rather than 64 bit. This is RIDICULOUS! 32 bit computers are more expensive and offer less. We considered upgrading to a later version of ACT until a sales rep told me that even later versions require a 32 bit PC. Additionally, ACT only works with Microsoft Explorer, another ridiculous requirement. Yet, ACT does not take advantage of true Windows features like storing multiple entries in the clipboard. The software is filled with "lazy" programming; for example in many fields your current position in the software is ignored and the used has to scroll unnecessarily through a pull-down list. We are currently considering other programs.

Recommendations to other buyers: Look at many programs and note the features that you want and need. Each program has different strengths. Remember that technology changes rapidly so look for a program that will export all your data easily, in case you need/want to make a change in the future.

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: Some of the features I will never use and some of the features take some time to learn how to use.

Overall: I have been using the program for 15 years. I like that when I last upgraded I did not have to learn everything over again! Microsoft does this and I don't care for it. I use mostly the contact database. However, I expect to purchase another copy of the program because of a new contract that will have extensive telemarketing and reporting.

Pros: Layout and look. All the different features and uses.

Cons: Sometimes when I print address labels, it will go and grab the actual address instead of the PO Box. Also 1 wrong click and suddenly everyone connected with a company has that company's address. Also really had a hard time with Birthday reports. I just want 1 specific month, not everyone in random order. SQL servers don't always boot up.

Overall: Since I've updated it's been 1 a headache after another. I kept ACT Bc of my familiarity with the product. But now I have problems with SQL servers not starting, lost a database, and have to pay for customer service? The Customer support guys do work hard to fix your Problem. But paying to fix a problem ACT created or overlooked seems greedy. So minus 2 stars. Also getting some of the reports is not as easy as it uses to be. I don't use all the features of this software but some of it would be great, but now redundant as I have other programs handling those for me. Overall it's just "C" maybe "C+" for me.

Recommendations to other buyers: Fix the above. Also if there is a software glitch I shouldn't have to buy customer support to fix it.

Pros: Scalability and ability to customize

Cons: None

Overall: I have used Act! from the beginning. With that, I mean from inception to today. As a sales representative, I became an expert user of Act! It served as the foundation for my success and gave me an unfair advantage over my peers. While my fellow sales reps worked harder and harder, I worked harder but smarter, winning every sales contest and breaking a few records in the process. As a Regional Sales Manager and VP of Sales, I used the science that Act! afforded me with while my competitors relied on luck. Now, as a consultant, I recommend and teach Act! as the foundation of a solid process. I have turned down consulting contracts because the client company did not and would not install Act! As a sales writer, published in such magazines as Selling Power and Life Insurance Selling, I have recommended and used Act! in dozens of articles and a few books. Act! is key to a successful sales career.

Recommendations to other buyers: You don't want to half-step with this. Sure, you can learn the basics and get by. But you need to learn to all, become an expert. Then it will make you money. Used to its full capabilities, Act! will make more money for you than your biggest account.

Comments: THere are a lot better CRM's out there figure out what you are using it for and what you need and start shopping I could suggest a few but to me they are a bit industry specific.

Pros: seems very simple and we had a long standing relationship with ACT with the in house CRM. So we had a lot of our contacts already on board and it does keep track of contacts.

Cons: When I came on board about 3 months ago I suggested going to the cloud the idea was well recieved and I contacted act. We intially had some issues uploading the information some of which I will admit was my own fault. when I did the software lagged extremely bad. I contacted the company spent almost 4 hours o the phone (mostly on hold) the first time and then didnt get a call back untill about 9:30 that night. Then the trial was running out with out the issue being resolved I asked them to extend it while we tried to fix the issue they told me I had to buy it and then they would be able to fix it....

Pros: Total ease-of-use and fantastic tech support.

Cons: Since my days on the beta team, I have asked that if you highlighted a phone number overseas it would tell you the local time of day and whether that was a business day or a holiday. Tech development teams have always said that is a fantastic idea dating back to version about 2.0 but it has never been implemented.

Overall: I run an international consulting business with customers in Europe, the Caribbean, Africa, and all over English-language North America to the north of the Arctic Circle. I could not have built this 25-year business without ACT! In retirement, I am serving as a university professor. I have over 7500 contacts in my database. ¶

I served on the beta team (I actually loaded version 1.0 but it was not as good as competitors) when version 2.0 came out it was hands down better than what I had been using. I have updated act every year ever since! Service is great and good but available only during business hours specific time, I only wish it was available 24*7

Pros: We can leave internal notes, create and save contracts, create custom columns for searching and organizing, can edit the format to fit our needs without consulting with the software company. You can see which user has done the work, assign reps and task other users and yourself. You can create separate databases for different functions, and assign a group under various levels (inquiry, quote, confirmed, etc.).

Cons: It's not very pretty nor modern looking, but it does the job. My computer has changed a couple of times since starting to use ACT, and with one hard drive change it was very difficult and time consuming to figure out how to change the text size within the fields, because it was tiny and apparently most monitors are huge now, so it was a big strain on my eyes.

Overall: This has been our groups database for over 10 years.

Pros: The deployment options for Act! are more extensive than any other CRM on the market, your data is controlled in your own environment, can be accessed over the network, via Browser and remote devise plus remote synchronisation models for travellers where there is no internet (like on planes). Act! is also fully customisable to suit your workflow and business strategy requirements over which we have control at all times. Act! has improved our team collaboration, increased our sales through better process management and reporting Our team love using Act! as it is simple and easy to understand

Cons: Swiftpage have only had ownership of Act! for 2 years whereas Sage had it for over 10 years, I believe they have strong strategy on future development of Act! however there has not been a lot of change over the past year. We are hoping for improvements in browser support for 2016

Recommendations to other buyers: With any CRM training and support are essential, engaging a professional Act! consultant adds long term value to your business as it would with any CRM, Act! is no different and we have an excellent well thought out solution that has improved our productivity and customer interactions. We could not have done this without professional guidance as there is so much more to Act! then just the interface that people just won't understand without help.

Comments: I inherited the decision to use Act! software from a former coworker. Most of the time it works all right. However, every few weeks, the option to email directly out of Act! just seems to stop working. Restarting the software, and the computer doesn't help, neither do the articles in the "help" section. This is something that I can hack around, copying and pasting email address out of Act! and into my Outlook, or exporting contacts to Excel and then copying multiple addresses into Outlook. However, my boss is less tech savvy and just wants the software to work the way it's supposed to. I tried calling the support line and did not have good results. Even with the error code, the technician was unable to provide an answer. He offered to remote log on to one of our computers to solve the issue, but that won't help us the next time the issue occurs. Having tech support that explains why the problem occurs and how to fix it in the future would make a world of difference with this software!

Pros: Easy to organize contacts

Cons: Terrible tech support Clunky interface Email problems

Recommendations to other buyers: Maybe if you have lots of experience with computer programming, you can get past the technical support issues. Otherwise, start looking for a different Contact Management System

Pros: Considering the pathetic customer support, I would have to say - nothing! Our inability to reach Customer Support to resolve our conversion issue has rendered the CRM useless.

Cons: Our small company has been successfully using ACT for years and three weeks ago we moved from the server version to the cloud. Since we made the switch we have been literally "dead in the water" as some of our data did not make the conversion and we have been unable to reach anyone from Customer Support to help us resolve this issue even though we purchased the Premium Support Package . Last week our head of IT was on hold for 1.5 hours before someone answered the phone only to be told he had reached the wrong help line, was transferred to another help desk, was on hold for another hour before he finally gave up. This is simply not okay!!!

Pros: Custom fields. Ease of backup. I like that you can save multiple layouts. I do not like that the layout doesn't fit my screen using a typical new HD monitor. I either have to keep the type really small or thevtext gets very blurry.

Syncing with iPhone - your app doesn't include all the fields. Every time there is a major windows update, ACT has issues. For many years I have asked for a couple of features to be added and was always told by tech support that it should be Easy to add, but nothing ever happens.

Pros: I have used it for twenty five years and it has been my source for CRM. I liked how it worked when it was on my machine locally (it currently resides on my server but something causes it to go out)

Cons: I have spent 60 hours on the phone with customer act customer support because from Premium v18-20 I have had nothing but problems. It throws errors daily. When they fix it, it breaks again within a week. To get a level two tech scheduled, which seems to be the only tech that can handle my issues took me 25mins. Then I have to wait a day for them to call me. Then on average two computers take about 3 hours total to get up and running and then it breaks again. I am about ready to go back to paper.

Pros: The fact that I was able to use the product immediately with no instruction was a great pro. Entering data and retrieving info about a client is easy, and building history of calls, Email messages, letters in a record is great.

Cons: I am not happy with support as all they do is provide a fix when there is a problem, but not direction in how to build reports or use other functionality. I have had to fix the same problem with direction from their service group several times. If I ask for help with reports they tell me I need to find a consultant for that.

Overall: I use it to track my clients and prospects and I can tell anyone the last time I made contact, what that was - letter, Email, Phone Call, etc. and it allows me to connect important info to any of my clients, prospects, friends and family.

Pros: Ease of storing, using databases once the horrific install and debugging is done. I really don't have anything else to say about the product.

Cons: Terrible, terrible customer support. No one answers the Tech Support line ever. If you call Sales, they give you 20 excuses as to why no one can help you. You might get an email from Tech Support telling you to do it yourself via links. Bottom line, sales people are great just don't look for anyone to help with debugging. The upgrades are often and every time you do an upgrade, you MUST contact Tech support because there are constant bugs

Pros: We have used ACT! for many years with success but sadly after the newest upgrade this is no longer the case. All of the features we use are either hard to find, don't work the same, or no longer exist. We have had no success with getting help on these issues and get general answers or are directed to use the online/ self help articles to find out how to resolve the issues. I am not in IT!, I have a degree in Accounting, I do not want to nor do I have time to fix issues that weren't broken previously. When you have features that work and you have clients that use them DON'T change them - NO need to re-invent the wheel.

Cons: Horrible Support, Very bulky and difficult to now use! Constantly times out. If you have hours to sit on the phone with customer support when you call them then this is the perfect product for you!

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure the Support offered by the software you chose covers things like the issues that will arise during upgrades. Make sure the choice you make will integrate with your accounting software. ACT! does not integrate with QuickBooks, so if that is the accounting software you use you will be out of luck there.

Cons: Have had problems configuring my display on Mac Pro when Windows updates my Mac running Parallels. ACT! support has always fixed the problem.

Overall: I have been using ACT! since V.6. Presently I use V.18 on the cloud and synchronize it with Companion Link on my Blackberry phone, Android tablet and Mac Pro computer with Parallels. I depend on ACT! for scheduling appointments, contacts, email, keeping track of business opportunities, etc. Several time that I needed help from tech support and have always been very pleased with the availability and quality of prompt service. It is comforting to have this important information kept secure and readily available from anywhere anytime. I highly recommend the program and am willing to answer questions from prospective users.

Cons: No native Mac version. I have been using the Mac platform now for 10 years and have to run ACT! through a virtual machine which works well enough but limits functionality.

Also, the newer versions are clunkier and cumbersome compared to earlier versions. Whilst they may lack some of the bells and whistles of more modern versions, I have stuck with ACT!2000 (a.k.a. version 5.04.495 which was designed for Windows 98, and will run on no later Windows version than xp! Comments: Please get me any additional information on work arounds (solutions) to ACT integration with Office 365.

Pros: I have used ACT for over 15 years. The functionality within ACT is good along with the features. It is very intuitive and easy to use.

Cons: The 3rd party integration has been an on going issue for me. Most notably integration with Office 365 and specifically Outlook. I spent hours on the phone with both ACT and Microsoft support trying to get e-mail & e-mail merge to work properly. Each pointing the finger at the other to the point I was ready to look for a new CRM. Comments: I would recommend that this application be considered for those shopping for a contact management and email correspondence archiving tool.

Pros: ACT! is a power contact correspondence management tool that archives your emails with a given individual for future reference. It also help track agreements and proposals sent by email, dates, and changes in contact information. Contacts are logged by name and company, so it's easy to find all emails to and from a given company as wells as an individual. The tool is very powerful and provides a lot of function including many tools that I don't need to use. These are likely useful for sales people.

Cons: Some of the functions are bit hard to find. For example, the add note function is hidden on the page as a tiny icon. Once you get used to the system, however, it works fine.

Pros: I've used ACT off and on since 2008. Rather than pay a monthly/annual fee to use an internet-based product, I prefer actual software, and ACT fits the bill. I am currently using ACT 2013. It is relatively easy to set up, and the taskbar and icons are obvious, although I confess that there are several I haven't figured out how to use yet. I am a realtor and find having each contact page with easily found information is efficient. The ability to check notes, schedule, and Facebook and LinkedIn pages when I call is a huge plus in relationship-bonding. ACT 2013 is the third or fourth version of the product that I have used, and I keep returning to it precisely because of the functionality.

Cons: The main problems I have had are: 1) Help is abysmal. Every link seems to take me back to the product promoting webpage. There seems to be no manual of any kind, so help comes in the form of paid assistance, which isn't good for small business owners. 2) It seems that the only browser ACT works through is Internet Explorer; I cannot seem to have it go through Chrome. 3) Email is an integral part of any CRM, and unfortunately ACT 2013 is married to Outlook. Even with the free Gmail add-on, I cannot send emails. 4) I purchased the Premium version believing I would be able to have mobile access; however, this proved to be untrue 5) The company has changed hands several times, which is inconsistent for the consumer.

Recommendations to other buyers: Do your research and weigh the pros and cons. Obviously, behavioral type and computer skill will figure into any decision.

Pros: . Ease of use if it works. Could be a good product if there was good service and the product was ready for release to the customer. Too many times they release a version and there are too many bugs to deal with.

Cons: Act doesn¿t care about customers. Hard to understand techs. Long wait times. Act on desktop was better. It worked for the most part. The cloud version should not have been released. Pros: ease of scheduling is good in this software, adding information to the database is also quite simple and user friendly.

Cons: Do not like the way the different versions of this software sync up together - desktop version versus cloud version do not react well together within our office.

Overall: sales data collection, contact info saved, record of calendar events, etc

Hi Lisa,

There are quite a few ways you can set up database synchronization in Act! It sounds like the deployment you're currently using might not be the best implementation for your business.
We'd be happy to advise you on best practices. Just give us a call and explain your business needs.

Thanks

Pros: The software remembers what you have added in and will use that information to resource similar additions to your database.

Cons: Use of this product on "The Cloud" is not as easy to use as this product without "The Cloud"

Overall: I have been using ACT! since 1990 and have watched this software grow from a reliable software program to the very best way to keep in touch with Clients/Customers to serve their needs, and keep abreast of new opportunities to grow my business. Great Resource!

Recommendations to other buyers: Unless you are all over the USA and have to utilize with other computers, don't get ACT! on "The Cloud"; it's not as fast and not as easy to use - plus some of the ways you may be used to are not available.

Pros: Managing my database through alerts and predetermined actions. Keeping my day organized seamlessly. I'm able to record Outlook correspondence/emails automatically into my clients history for future reference. I prefer using my desktop version however, I'm able to sync my database and access using the cloud version from my phone.

Cons: Can be a little pricey to make changes to the present template that ACT provides as this usually requires an ACT consultant to build what you want. This is assuming the current templates are not satisfactory.

Comments: I have tried to replace ACT! with another CRM, Contact Management program. Evaluating the value/cost/functionality/support (SalesForce Basic is more expensive and doesn't come with tech support). For the 20 years I've used ACT! I'm still there, plus I introduced it to a bank's division since it was/is easy to use. As a note, I do not rate an A in technical know-how. One might say I'm a semi-knowledgeable user.

Pros: I use ACT! because it is relatively easy to use with many very useful functions. Tracking and organizing emails, sent and received as well as phone calls becomes almost routine. Several years ago I was updating database and came across an old, maybe 10 years, client who's daughter's birth date I had entered after a call. I called him up, only a week late, to wish his daughter Happy Birthday. After being shocked that I would remember I got a new assignment from his company.

Cons: India call centers = MAJOR weakness. User since the 1990s, V 1.0. Swiftpage is 4th owner. Must have TECHNICAL SUPPORT contract.

Comments: Tech support is transferred out of the US and customer care is useless. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROGRAM OR SERVICE. THEY WILL NOT REFUND ANY MONIES PAID. WILL BE INQUIRING ABOUT TAKING LEGAL ACTION FOR DAMAGES OF LOSS OF TIME AND DEALS.

Pros: Prior versions of ACT integrated well with Outlook. The newest version on the surface appears to work but does not.

Cons: ACT upgrades its web services and does not notify its user until after you are no longer able to sync. Upgrade no longer syncs properly and reinserts cleared activities repeatedly each time so if you sync 5 times you will have 5 of the same activity.

Pros: It allows me to keep all of my contacts in one place and to export them to Excel to prepare labels.

Cons: I can't control what fields I see. I'd like to eliminate the ones I don't use. I also can't easily reimport contacts after I send them through NCOA without duplication. I also can't control my lists other than to delete them. I'd like to be able to archive them.

Overall: I like the idea of being able to keep all of my contacts in one database that is searchable and also can be broken down into individual lists for specific projects. Act! has its quirks, but most of the time it works for what I need it to.

Comments: There are 100 other CRM Software Companies who offer way better service and product for this price.

Pros: The only good thing about this software is you can customize the fields to cater towards the specific information you desire.

Cons: CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE!! Nobody you can speak with speaks English, and if you call the sales office, all they want to do is transfer you to tech support. The wait times are always 30 plus minutes to speak with someone. I have never in my entire life done business with company with such poor customer service. You cannot rely on them to help you with anything, especially if you are trying to get something done in a quick manor. The sales people are just as lazy s the customer service employees.

Pros: The fact that I can check my customer notes from anywhere I have internet access is great. You can be called to a last minute meeting and have all your customer notes at your fingertips before walking in to their office.

The ability to dictate notes using your phone or tablet is also great.

Cons: Occasionally glitches out when moving between contacts and agenda items.

Overall: Allows me to track customer interactions immediately upon leaving their office while the conversation is fresh in my mind! Reduces the amount of paper and any problems associated with lost paper notes.

Pros: This is very easy to use, simple yet powerful CRM. End users are very happy with the functionality and has been much easier for management to get staff engaged vs similar products we've tried in the past. The UI is clean and simple, data entry is fast and the inbuilt reports are intuitive.

Cons: From an IT administration standpoint, can be a little clunky deploying on multiple machines. Having said that, once installed it's pretty much maintenance free and requires very little hand holding.

Overall: Happy users, efficient and easy access to customer/lead data

Pros: This software doesn't require a monthly charge (if you have the desktop version) It allows you to create customized reports and input more information then you possibly could need.

Cons: This software has several Cons, One of the biggest is that its not user friendly so much. it takes you a long time to figure out how to use functions. I had trouble when I fist started using it. Also, when I wanted up upload excel spreadsheets of client info into the CRM. I had to buy an "Add On" which I think should of been something included in the program.

Overall: It does allow you set appointments and manage client information. But, it is very time consuming and you have to do a lot of steps to get what you are wanting out of it.

Comments: If you have it already I'd stick with it. Otherwise there are WAY better software options out there if you are looking for a first time purchase or to make a switch.

Pros: great for large database storage. Lots of new features make it much more functional. ACT Connect pushed it into competition with modern CRMs.

Cons: Customer service is a joke. Even their self-help webinars often link to broken URLs. The idea of account managers is good, but only if you have good account managers. Otherwise you just get bounced around and never actually get someone who can help you.

Pros: Being able to schedule a meeting from the contact list instead of going to my calendar to set it up. It has something called "activity series," which maps out what you need to do after seeing a client.

Cons: There are so many things wrong with the software. Constant crashing or glitching. Sometimes when you try to create a new contact, you need to wait about 5 seconds for it to set up properly. Otherwise whatever information you enter overwrites the previous contact you were viewing. The UI is garbage. I cannot tell you how many times this software has froze or crashed on me while trying to get work done. And for the price I've paid, not worth it. Plus, it looks ugly.

Recommendations to other buyers: It does the basic functions like store contacts and schedule your meetings, but Google does that for free. Act has a LOT of functions that's supposedly helpful for your business, which can be good if you have the time to learn the software (and it's a steep learning curve). If you're running Windows, whenever you upgrade, Act will start to malfunction, and you'll have to wait for their tech support to fix it, which can be a few DAYS. Honestly, you're probably better off with a simpler CRM if you're a small business.

Pros: I had a support specialist come remotely on my computer to help start the "migration" and email set up so that it syncs with outlook.

Cons: I have used ACT for almost 15 years, and it USED to be a great product. I've bought a new computer and backed up my original data base. It has taken over 1 week to get an initial trail versions email to download. It was supposed to be 24-48 hours - it has now been 6 days, and I am sitting on hold with them (40 initial minutes - now waiting for them to "check" what the status is - a total as of this minute of 53:23 minutes). This is how I make my living in sales. I would like to send them an invoice for loss of business.

Recommendations to other buyers: It used to be good. The support is the worse I have ever seen. I can't evaluate the new program because I have no idea where it's at. I can't access my original sales data base as they haven't "migrated" my files yet. I don't know who's in charge, but they should be immediately fired and get a service team up and running - add some bodies!

Pros: All client information is in one central contact record. Data entry and retrieving client information is easy to use and track. You can customize the software to fit the needs of your business. We have several locations, ACT allows us to organize our clients into smaller groups to target specific areas to run promos and marketing campaigns for those specific areas.

Cons: There are a lot of functions and features some I will probably never use but overall I am totally satisfied with ACT.

Overall: Tangent Strategies is a selling education and support company. We have used ACT for over a decade. It keeps track of every customer and prospect we have and every communication we've had with them. We schedule activities, telephone calls and meetings on ACT. ACT reminds us when it is time to reach out to our prospects again and never lets us forget the meetings we've scheduled with our customers. These reminders have been a god-send ... when we might have otherwise forgotten an important meeting during our crazy busy days. ACT is a valued member of our selling instruction and selling support team.

Pros: Nothing! Salesman consistently misrepresented features and functionality. So many problems, it's hard to enumerate. Their E-Marketing module sounds great, but it DOES NOT WORK because Act! does not support SSL. They send emails via a port that nearly ALL ISP's block! They told me I could get around this by using Outlook, which I did not have. So, I purchased Outlook 2013, only to find that it did not import opportunities/prospect into Act! They then told me "Oh, you should have purchased Outlook 2007. That would have worked". Are you kidding me???

Cons: Act! has a form generator for you to embed a "Contact Us" form into your website, which I did. This way, is someone goes to your website and fills out your form, you can go to Act! and click "Get Leads" and all of those inquiries will come in as "Contacts". I did this and tested it. It seemed to work, so I launched a 2 month Email campaign from my database of 16,000 previous customers. After my campaign, I was shocked that I had absolutely 0 inquiries. I went back to the form on my website to re-test the form and found that it DID NOT FUNCTION! They could fill it out, but could not "submit"! I'm FURIOUS!! How much money have I lost??

Recommendations to other buyers: Realize that Act! used to be such a GREAT software. I used it religiously back in the '90's. I recommended it to so many people, who also loved it; but this new version by Swiftpage is far from ready-for-primetime. Their sales team misrepresents, their support team is, at best, extremely hard to understand and, at worse, comatose. Please don't make the catastrophic mistake I did in trusting your company's sales and contact management to them.

Pros: It's easy to use.

Overall: We have been using ACT! for a long time now and I've been happy with it. We've only had to back up the database once, (because it was too overloaded with data & attachments), but otherwise, it's been a stable product for us. Easy to use, nice for our small business and your tech support is very helpful!

Recommendations to other buyers: Maybe make it easier to setup auto-backups and sending an email when it's done. (It's not working for me and I have to manually save the database by going into File/Backup.

Comments: Very disappointed in this product over the passed year and am currently searching for something to work like Act used to. The Tech Support is not properly trained and unable to provide support for their own product now, which used to not be the case.

Pros: i can open a contact and see all of the correspondence (notes, emails, and documents) that anyone from my company has sent to/from the client. This was a huge asset until about 1 year ago when the software stopped working. Tech support has told us they can't keep up with Microsoft updates and has even told us not to update Microsoft anymore which is not an option for us.

Cons: The reports are not very good and never have been. We used a program called stonefield querry which interfaced with Act very nicely. None of this matters now though because we get a bit-32 error daily and the software is very unreliable now. I miss the old Act!

Pros: This product is a solid CRM for keeping track of your customers and their orders. It is good for a basic or general CRM for the SMB market. If used correctly you will never have a problem of not knowing the last thing a customer ordered, where a customer moved, the rep assigned to the account, the last person in the organization to communicate with the account or the type of infrastructure the customer has. Overall it is a solid product that provides the basic qualities of a good CRM tool.

Cons: ACT sometimes gave issues with integrating with other tools. There were sometimes issues with providing reports of the data within the system. Overall I did not experience too many other issues though

Recommendations to other buyers: To evaluate this software you should have a good understanding of how the software works. You should also know the overall goal for the organization in using this software. If the software is being utilized correctly then the goal for the organization in using the software should be achieved. Overall, ACT is more for the sales/management side of the business in keeping track of customers and how to effectively manage their account based on information recorded. The software is not going to be effective by itself, it needs the people operating it to utilize it effectively.

Pros: I like the fact that I can buy it outright and I am not locked into a monthly plan. I also like the fact that I can tailor reports easily to meet my needs.

Cons: When I get stuck, support is almost non-existent. Purchasing the product gives installation support but after a short time, your on your own unless you purchase a support plan.

Overall: A good CRM system that does not require a monthly fee. It helps me manage and track clients, prospective clients and employees.

Comments: I recently needed to update my old system. I was a 7+ year Goldmine user that Windows 7 no longer supported. As a small biz owner the last thing I wanted to do was to take time to transfer and learn a new contact management system. Sage ACT! 2012 was the closest software that met my needs. Not sure why Sage has two systems Contacts and Companies, very confusing for a GM user. Hard to believe that it takes 5 clicks just to get to my printer setting to print an envelope. Sure would think in 2012 they would have a easier way to configure. Very frustrating on the Admin migration software that was needed. Support from them was not great. They actually said I was trying to be too concise and particular. Long website and email address did not migrate completely. Hmmm I wonder who is being to "concise"? I was very surprised there was no Canada Providence in the State setting. Another feature loss from GM is when you type in the zip code it doesn't automatically fill in the city/state. Still trying to figure out Outlook and Act. It appears much more management of the messages. After I add to contact I need to delete out of Outlook. Again GM had this one figured out in their old 6.7 version, years ago. I wish I had more control of screen settings. It appears the folks at Sage have not figured out there are larger monitors out there. Try to add a relationship with the screen setting at medium, it can not be done. This is not what you want to hear. Change is hard for us small guys, more hand holding is needed vs. all your auto generated sales calls and emails. My inbox was full of buy buy buy vs. a live person on "how can we help you". I felt like I was just a completed sale for someone and I don't even have a clue who that person was.

Pros: Ease set up and use. Ease in creating many databases - I have one I use all the time, a personal database and one large database of ace, true value and doitbest stores that I can search for contact info. Support is great.

Cons: Sometimes the software breaks...for example I have two pc's and I sometime want act info availabe on both. Sometime the conections are not there. I call support and they fix.

Pros: Reminds you to keep in contact with important business contacts.

Cons: The technical support was lacking. I purchased a version of this product a few years back. When I called their support team when I had a question, they would not help me because the software was a few years old.

Overall: Act! helps you keep track of your business contacts and help manage follow ups. Act! helped grow our brand recognition by continuously keeping our brand in the mind of our referral sources.

Recommendations to other buyers: Solid CRM software.

Pros: It does a lot of the same stuff as ACT 2000 which is good. It also tries to add new features to bring its CRM into the modern world.

Cons: We had been using ACT 2000 for the last 17 years, and other versions of ACT before that. ACT 2000 was great CRM software even with regard to how it synced. It was also reliable. Act! now is very unreliable (in my testing in my company), difficult to migrate to, difficult to sync, slower, and overall a considerably worse product, to the point that, given the option, I'd rather use ACT 2000 than the current Act!

Vendor Response

by Swiftpage on March 07, 2018

Hi Jared,

Thanks for your feedback! Act! has changed a lot since ACT 2000, and I'm sorry to hear that you've had a poor experience with our more recent versions.

The latest versions of Act are designed to work with modern systems, and utilise a modern workflow in today's always-connected world.

It's disappointing to hear that you've had technical issues that marred your experience of the product - you certainly shouldn't be experiencing any unreliability or difficulty/slow syncing, so apologies for that!

If there's anything we can do to help resolve these problems, please reach out to our tech support team who'd be happy to help!

Comments: Mail merge gets;s worse with each release... Crashes all the time, Sage now states do not do a mail merge with more than 50 contacts at a time... I am looking at replacement products as this review is being written. Sage does not care about the shortcomings of this product. ACT used to be a solid product, but that stopped after it was acquired by Sage.

Pros: Easy to use interface

Cons: not a stable product. i have had to constantly call technical support for the same issues for the last 3 releases.

Comments: The old ACT 2000 was a better Contact Management program than the newer versions. I understand there are superior Contact Management products available from competitive companies that I would recommend over ACT.

Pros: The "Notes" feature for contacts and the Calendar.

Cons: Getting to Contacts and Companies is difficult and requires too many steps. You have to scroll down the list of companies and cannot simply type in the beginning letters of a company name.

Comments: My company uses this program to store client information and send email campaigns. First off, if you have a Mac, you're completely screwed. ACT doesn't have the capability to connect with your email if you are working on a Mac. If you're working with Outlook, ACT sends all of your emails to the junk folder. Customer service is terrible. It takes about 20 minutes to get ahold of someone EXCEPT for the EMarketing section of Mac. Their customer service is great but can only help with so much. Extremely confusing program.

Pros: Emarketing section/customer service

Cons: Confusing Does not work with Macs Does not work with Outlook Customer Service

Pros: Calendar features are good, it's fairly easy to customize templates to print receipts, invoices, etc. from the software.

Overall: I am a user for over a decade. The latest version still has issues that need to be fixed. I should not have to use third party programs to communicate with Outlook and GMAIL. If I do not use third party programs, ACT is slow or doesn't work right. Still, no one to call without paying for tech support!

Comments: I have grown my company from 1 person (me) to 26, from 1 client to over 1200 and I credit ACT! 100%. The reason? I can track my pipeline, create an activity series to send thank you's for referrals, birthday cards for major clients (and subcontractors) as well as series to remind me when contracts expire. I have installed and trained on ACT! for 20 plus years - and still recommend to anyone who asks today. (Although I no longer train). To say I love this program is an understatement. It's the BEST!

Pros: There are lots of options for multiple contacts, spaces for notes, and it's easy to use. The best thing about it is it tracks emails so you can refer to correspondence if need be; especially helpful when you're not the one who emailed. Instead of asking a colleague to find and forward you an email chain, it's already in ACT so you can see it.

Cons: I can't figure out a way to export notes from all accounts. I want them on a spreadsheet and I don't think ACT has this functionality. Also, it's good for CRM but it isn't linked to our accounting system so we have to log in separately to view customer transactions. These days people are looking for something that does it all (at least in our business).

Comments: Expensive but if you can afford it, the custom software is a great business tool for dealing with customers across multiple departments within a company.

Pros: When we first started using this program, there was a rep. from Act who went around to each department and made specific profiles for each department that allowed us to see the information we use on a regular basis. The lady worked with us for over a month to get everything set up like we wanted. Now each department can access all the information in Act but the information is tailored to accounting, or warranty or reception, etc.

Cons: It took a very long time and lots of revisions to get the program set up for our needs. Thankfully the ACT rep was patient and worked with us until we had what we needed.

Pros: When it was Sage that produced it, the software and support were excellent.

Cons: Since being taken over by Swiftpage, it has lost its credibility and support of small businesses due to its inability to integrate with existing Sage accounting software. The old version gave you the facility of salespeople being able to instantly link to a client's financial status. In the new version, it requires programming with an add-on module (not cheap) to integrate with the higher version of Sage Line50 accounting software but offers no integration with the small business favorite software of Sage Instant Accounts.

Recommendations to other buyers: Try it, but check that it integrates with your other software before buying, and check that it's suitable for what you want. It may have sold a lot of copies over the years, but that's when it was backed by Sage and did what it promised.
