I took a long time looking at different options to the point where it became discombobulating. Brilliant Directories was the one, due to the package and tier options. This made it easy to compare with other site's offerings, some of which were less transparent. I am still very new at all of this, however, the help and advice is there. The Support Team are so helpful and always there when needed. I am giving myself a big slap on the back for making this choice. All in all I believe it was the best decision I have made in a long time. Pros Being totally new to this product, and it would be safe to say, a bit of a 'Luddite' I was pleasantly surprised to find that is it so easy to implement and to understand. Everything one requires is there and accessible. As someone who is just starting out, this was a highly desirable factor. As was the pricing which is competitive. Cons As I don't have any real experience with this, it is hard for me to pinpoint the cons right away. Everything seems to be logically set out and it is just a matter of understanding the layout, which is clear and concise. As a newby, though, perhaps some jargon busting might be useful. I wrote back to Billing yesterday and I have yet to recei8ve a reply . I spoke with Kelvin yesterday as well, and he attempted to make it happened but it was not executed properly and I am reluctant to disturb him again as he claimed to be extremely busy with world wide clients. Pros Very comprehensive. Has all of the features I need to make great websites. Cons So far, nothing stands out as a dislike, but it would be nice if their was a better library of high resolution photos. So far I have not been able to locate any of the photos as seen on the Brilliant Demo. BD is truly the premiere service available. In my experience the customer support is also first class. Cons When reviewing the pricing, I would personally consider the "VIP Add-Ons Club" a necessity. You're going to want adds-ons such as SSL, coupon codes, free trial, possibly VAT, etc. It doesn't take long to realize that "VIP Add-Ons Club" is probably the way to go. Review Source DK David K. February 26, 2017 5.0 You asked for my impressions within 24 hours of receiving my login, so I can't possibly provide a complete review, but I'm happy to answer your question of what inspired me to choose Brilliant Directories. #1 The sample directories look fantastic. #2 You convinced me it would be easier than WordPress. #3 Getting a coupon made it seem like a very good deal. #4 You returned my call on a weekend! As I look through the Admin pages it seems a bit overwhelming but I'm hoping there are enough teaching videos to take me step by step through the entire process. I learn best by examples, so please continue to add examples to your training and I can then pick the ones that relate to my project/approach. My goal, lofty as it may be, is to provide a tool that provides the hearing impaired with the opportunity to comparison shop and in the end make hearing aids, and assistive listening devices more accessible and more affordable. But on the ground functionality bugs lack of communication just make it impossible I'm almost ready to leave! Cons Lack of communication and once you do get a response to your support ticket because there's nobody to talk to Chances Are you're going to go round and round three or four more times I don't know if this is a language barrier or what. It seems like somebody developed this thing and then sort of walked away. So far, I am impressed, but I just got my login information for our account. Pros I am hoping the features are what we like most. We are hoping they work as we expect. We are a design, development, Internet marketing and Internet presence management firm. We are looking forward to implementing this site for our client. Cons SEO! I asked a pre-sales question about this. They sent me a list of websites using Brilliant Directories. My SEO findings on these websites were not encouraging and I did not get a clear answer or explanation as to why they may rank the way they do. So I decided to try with this one website. I do not consider myself an SEO expert, but I am very good with understanding SEO and databases and keywords etc. \[I was a former CFO and implemented many different accounting and business solutions. All solutions need a great \[logical\] data structure to be effective and usable. Used the software for: ### "Best In The Industry" April 6, 2016 5.0 When the Government of Canada, Department of Canadian Heritage, and the Office of French Language Services of the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care financed our interpretation application for the ministry of health, we needed to find a platform that allowed us to easily and quickly build, customize, and manage our website and mobile app landing page. We first tried using WordPress but customizing third-party themes and getting multiple plugins to work correctly with one another proved to be far too difficult and time consuming. We even rented multiple web developers to get WordPress to work for us but they were too costly and couldn't build us the website we needed. Brilliant Directories' stock Bootstrap theme is beautiful and functional and has more features than we even need (but are happy to have!). Our in-house team was able to quickly make custom design changes while maintaining the functionality of the website. We were even able to make our customized app landing page on the BD platform (http://www.accueilfrancophone.com/med-interpret)! Customer service was also top notch. We opted for their Professional Onboarding Plan which was definitely worth the money - saved us loads of time and helped get us up to speed on the platform. Now our team can manage the website without a problem. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect solution. The entire team here at l'Accueil francophone is thrilled with Brilliant Directories and our investors are happy that we were able to get the website and app landing page launched quickly. Pros I was able to bring my idea to life very quickly. While there is a learning curve, that is to be expected. The add-ons are worth it, and add even more agility to the site. Customer service is fantastic and support system appears to be robust. Cons There is a learning curve and some of the tutorials feature previous versions of the site, but if you remember to manage your expectations, you realize that 90% of the work is done for you. Your job is to provide the best 10% possible and then LAUNCH. In the past you'd spend hours and thousands of dollars on trying to make something similar. Nothing is even close to as well developed as Brilliant Directories. I could see how it could be a little daunting for a complete computer newbie, but anyone who can follow directions, read and click their mouse can build a beautiful, powerful search directory in minutes. At first I was a little hesitant because the price is more than competitors. But the software as a service is well worth the price, with including hosting, security, mail, and payments, it has simplified managing a directory website for me. Its so good I doubt ill ever tell anyone--no good businessman gives away his trade secrets--and Brilliant Directories is now definitely my edge over the competition. And special thanks to Dennis, we spoke multiple different times prior to me joining. He never once pressured me into buying. He has the easiest sales job ever because he doesn't need to sell since the software speaks for itself. Overall, the software is amazing (Only feature its missing is I would really like to see an internal affiliate program built--not to sell BD but to have my site users be able to refer other people to join my directory and receive a commission) and the customer service has been completely on point. Other directories options may be cheaper but I personally think it's worth the extra money for the amazing functionality and design. Things I don't like, While of course there are going to be upsells like in any business. I really was shocked that they charge $247 for a SSL certificate. Pretty much everyone can get a SSL certificate for less than $10 for your first year when you purchase a domain from a registrar and they even install it for free. This I felt was super shady because SSL's are pretty much mandatory for any serious website and right from day one the cost of your website will be $247 more than you originally thought. My customer service chap, Dennis was very patient with my questions. Pros This software has massive amounts of functionality. They seems to have improved it over a number of years, so you are getting the collective wisdom of directory software creation over several years. Other directory building software that I looked at had very limited features compared to Brilliant Directories. I love how nothing is "locked down". Other software does not allow you to change the code other than by paying them to do so. They also have an amazing library of training videos, generally 2 to 3 minutes long, so you can search for your particular problem and review info on just that (not having to sit through 57 minutes of irrelevant stuff to find the 3 minutes that answer your question. If you do not find an answer, you can email their support team or post a message for other users of the software to share their experiences. Cons Because there are so many features, it can feel overwhelming to get to grips with how to set this up for a non-technical person, but there is a lot of support available and most of it is easy to remember (pretty obvious) once you have seen the video on a particular thing (technically-minded people will likely find this system a breeze to learn) Review Source MB Matt B. You can check out Wordpress or other CMSes but you will have to pay for your own hosting, deal with comparing and learning all the various plugins, and integrate them all into a functional site. This is easy, fun and integrated. Payment integrated, and all the features you expect from a total launch. It's easy though you may want to know your HTML and CSS, but you can look that stuff up any time. The support seems very busy but they must be prioritized to those who pay extra for hand-holding. It's a little pricey to get started, but it's all there to get you off on the right foot. Pros Easy to get started and no worries. Cons Price is daunting if you don't know your commitment level. The software is hundreds of built in point-and-click settings so someone with no coding knowledge can still create a beautifully custom website. But the software still accepts custom code so that those who do have some web development experience can further customize their websites even more. Regarding our customer support.
