Alma¿s student and parent portals provides real-time information on grades and attendance, giving parents and students the freedom to view their records at any time. We find this, along with the individual student view in the gradebook, gives teachers the ability to share information and help the environment by being paper-free. The interface is easy to use. There are many different reports to choose from. Cons It would be nice to be able to generate the reports in pdf format. Every user has different needs with the data produced in reports. Some users want to manipulate the data, which is when excel and CSV files are best. And others wish to see and share the data in a more formal way. That is when PDFs are most helpful. Depending on the report, we can make PDF an option as well as CSV! It takes way too many keystrokes to input grades. Grades can only be entered as numbers, not letters. Overall it's very inefficient and not user-friendly. Customer service does not respond. I was surprised to see you felt otherwise. We added gradebook short-cut keys last year that allows for speedy grading. Have you used those short cut keys? We ask teachers to input a percentage that ties to a letter grade rather than just a letter grade because it allows for the most accurate grade calculations. We want to be sure we are representing student's achievement as accurately as possible. Lastly, our customer service is what sets us apart from other companies. We strive to not only respond but listen carefully and actively so we can continue to make improvements our users find most beneficial. ICT Director Used the software for: ### "A great start for a well-designed platform." March 25, 2015 4.0 So far Alma has met the vast majority of our needs as a school. The platform is continuing to grow and expand with refinement and features, but most importantly, it is the approach to integrate administrative tasks like class set up and scheduling together with learning management. While this isn't unique, the user-friendly design is. The design is what makes Alma stand apart from other platforms in this space, and if virtually anyone with basic computer-literacy can set up, organise, and manage a school with current data, then Alma is wildly succeeding. This is the biggest hurdle to using any system and the threshold for difficulty is relatively low. Not all processes are intuitive and it takes some playing to see just exactly how Alma has designed their system to work, but it is far easier than any competitors that I have used such as Power School. For small schools, especially ones with little to no budget, Alma is an adequate, if not incredibly decent solution. I'm looking forward to see what changes are coming for the next school year. I would definitely recommend Alma to schools similar to ours and need a school-wide solution to interact with all of their stakeholders. Review Source JP Joyclynn P. Teacher Used the software for: ### "Excellent Tool for the Teacher" March 30, 2016 5.0 Alma has been an incredible tool for our school, and I am so thankful we began using this software. Student, teacher and parent have easy access to students' assignments and grades. The program is easy to use and Alma staff is always on hand to assist when there are questions. The staff at Alma have also worked closely with our school, which follows an independent study module, to customize usage to meet our needs. As a teacher, I've been incredibly impressed by the ease of data input and record keeping. Alma has made my life so much easier. My students are also thrilled with their ability to check grades, assignments and comments online, anytime. I highly recommend Alma to others. September 14, 2018 5.0 So far, absolutely brilliant, has really improved our school and their customer service is on point. Pros Very easy to use and intuitive, compared to nearly all School Information Systems on the market, Alma are most likely the only SIS that looks like it was made within the last decade as apposed to made in the late 90's. Alma looks beautiful, it's inviting and makes getting work done and organizing things an absolute pleasure. Alma has redesigned the workflow we have at our school and has increased productivity by a huge amount. Cons I wouldn't say there is anything like I like "least" about Alma, perhaps just that they are still working hard to improve their systems and to be patient with little updates. Pros It's very easy to use to take daily attendance in all my classes. Student information is stored in the program making it easy to access family contact info. Customer service has been helpful and timely. Pros The components that compile the reporting card feature are easy to use, relevant, and able to be differentiated. All the data, from attendance, to standards, to grades, are in one place. Cons Curriculum and standards that are the same for schools across the district need to be entered separately. The online resource guide is very helpful but the online support staff is absolutely amazing! So professional and knowledgeable. They have walked me through many sticking points and put me back on the right path. There is so much information that the teachers use daily (absenteeism, grades, assignments, bio) all at their fingertips. Cons I don't really have a con except that it was overwhelming for me because there is alot of features that integrate together. Once you get the concept, the pieces of the puzzle seem to fit! " June 26, 2018 4.0 Pros Alma is built on a competency platform and has allowed our districts to transition from a traditional grading system to a competency based system. The customer service has been fast, effective, and personalized. Training for all staff was positive, and all user groups (teachers, administrators, secretaries, guidance counselors, etc...) agreed that Alma will allow us to move into the future with ease. The flexibility of the grading component will allow us to provide more transparency to parents and students, create a "move on when ready" educational environment for students, and give us the detailed information we need to support students who are not yet meeting academic targets. Cons There is nothing to dislike at this point, but if I had to find something I would like to see improved in the coming years, they would be: the ability for the call system to have a recorded voice as opposed to a robo-voice; and the ability to add future attendance instances. Pros This is the most user-friendly tool that I've come across and the customer care is just great. For any issue that you may encounter, you get sorted in good time. They've simplified both the communication and report features to best meet your needs. For grading, scheduling and even checking attendance, things are pretty smooth. It comes in handy when you need engagement from both students and parents and the fact that it's user-friendly makes it all the more a preferable software for school management stuff. Cons Just one thing that should be checked. Alma should make it possible to save grades that are submitted late. Grades submitted late may or may not be saved. Review Source MS Matt S. With almost no training I was able to get up to speed. Students find it intuitive. They check the site every day. Cons Loss of data with roster changes.
