Our overall experience has been extremely positive. Moving from TrialWorks to a new case management system was a major decision, but Smokeball exceeded our expectations. The onboarding process was smooth, the support team was helpful, and the software has delivered meaningful improvements in efficiency and case management. Since making the switch, we've seen continuous enhancements to the platform, along with excellent customer service whenever questions arise. For a personal injury practice, Smokeball provides the tools we need today while continuing to improve for the future. I would confidently recommend it to other law firms looking for a modern case management solution.

Pros

We transitioned from TrialWorks to Smokeball within the last year, and the difference has been significant. The software is modern, intuitive, and clearly designed with law firms in mind. We primarily handle personal injury cases, and Smokeball has been an excellent fit for our workflow, helping us stay organized and efficient. What has impressed me most, though, is the company itself. Their support team is responsive, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in helping firms succeed. They also actively listen to customer feedback and regularly implement user suggestions, which makes it feel like the platform is constantly evolving to meet the real-world needs of legal professionals.

Cons

No software is perfect, and there are always features or workflows that can be refined. However, one thing I appreciate about Smokeball is that when users identify opportunities for improvement, the company actually listens. Several areas where I initially wished for additional functionality have since been improved through updates. The pace of development and responsiveness to user feedback makes it hard to point to any major ongoing frustrations.

Overall, our experience with Smokeball has been very positive. It has become an essential part of our firm's daily operations by bringing case management, document automation, billing, and time tracking into a single platform. The support team has been responsive, and the product continues to improve with new features. While there are still areas that could be more intuitive and a few performance issues that could be refined, the benefits significantly outweigh the drawbacks. We would recommend Smokeball to other law firms looking for a comprehensive practice management solution.

Pros

What I like most about Smokeball now is that it centralizes our case management, billing, time entries, documents, and communications in one place. The automatic time tracking has been especially helpful because it captures calls and work activity more accurately and reduces the need for manual time entry. Overall, it gives us better visibility into matters, staff productivity, and billing activity.

Cons

The biggest frustration is that some features are not as intuitive or reliable as they should be. Automatic time tracking can occasionally be inconsistent, requiring manual corrections. Reporting is powerful but could be more flexible and easier to customize. Performance can also slow down when working with larger matters or documents, and some administrative settings require more steps than necessary. Overall, the software is strong, but there is room for improvement in usability, speed, and consistency.

[Lawmatics](https://www.capterra.com/p/177717/Lawmatics/)

I wanted a platform that could centralize all aspects of case management — from intake and communications to document management and time tracking. Smokeball provides this unified system, whereas Lawmatics was more narrowly focused on marketing and client intake. The switch gave us better visibility, accountability, and efficiency across the firm.re features

Overall, Smokeball has worked very, very well for me. Their customer service was very kind in onboarding me. I am also elated with the free CLEs. If you take advantage of that, the cost that I pay per month is practically a wash when you consider what you may pay for CLE's elsewhere.

Pros

It's pretty awesome for keeping me organized. Their AI, Archie, does a pretty good job preparing documents. It also focuses a lot on syncing up with Outlook, which is something I would say is necessary.

Cons

I don't know that this is Smokeball's fault, but I wish it would work with E-filing in Wisconsin. It is also missing the ability to create matters on the phone app. If you use Smokeball with Classic Outlook, it can sync up with your calendar when you create the matter in Outlook. If that features exists in the New Outlook, I cannot seem to find it, so while I would like to use the New Outlook for various reasons, I cannot right now, since that syncing feature is so important to me. It's compatibility with Zoom also needs a little bit of work. I chose a Zoom phone service because I thought it would help in billing hours for phone calls, but it hasn't really worked in that regard.

It’s made to work at the farm so much easier and it’s all in one place. All of our files are in one place.

Pros

We are able to integrate our client contracts and client info form as well as our billing now to make it easier

Cons

There’s occasionally a glitch, but it usually gets resolved within a couple days. It is usually minor glitches and once I tell them and they do an update it’s fixed.

The law firm I work at just recently switched to Smokeball, and the changeover has been as smooth as we could have hoped for. Between our onboarding specialist, and the number of other staff and trainers and resources that are available, there was always someone available to help in whatever area we needed assistance with. Whether it was the migration of our data and documents, assistance with setting up new forms and work procedures, help with the new intake system, or trainings regarding Smokeball billing and time entries, there was someone who was knowledgeable and reliable to assist us every step of the way. We are close to finishing our third month using Smokeball, and all of the staff are comfortable working with all of the main Smokeball features, or have someone to reach out to or resources to guide them when questions arise. We are all extremely pleased with our transition to Smokeball!

Smokeball was offering a similar service at a more competitive price, and has proven to be more responsive

If I had know before what I know now, I would have chosen something else. I spend a lot of time emailing support to try to accomplish what I need to do.

Pros

The billing seems to work once you get the hang of it, but there area lot of steps involved to avoid missing something.

Cons

1\. No time-stamp on phone messages. 2. No way to add reminders in Tasks in the Boost version. So you have to enter your own reminders as events on the calendar. So inefficient. 3. It does not automatically re-bill clients for unpaid invoices. If no work has been done in a billing cycle, but there is an outstanding balance, no new bill is sent out. You have to micro-manage the unpaid accounts. 4. It had a feature that allows you to input discovery deadlines, but the deadlines do no show up anywhere. You still have to add the deadline to tasks.

Pros

Trauma Lawyers has loved using Smokeball! We are a Plaintiff's Personal Injury firm with a very busy team. Smokeball has helped keep our communication on the same page, generate templates that ease time, and keep workflows consistent so that nothing falls through the cracks on our cases. Overall, Smokeball has helped us show up stronger for our clients!

Cons

Archie is still in the beginning stages of intelligence and has not fulfilled our needs as we would have hoped.

I'd give it 8/10. The bhack room support provided by \[sensitive content hidden\] is 2nd to none. She's a 12/10 - which gives Smokeball a final 10/10

Pros

How fast it was to implement. Very intuitive. Archie is good value but hallucinates which is a problem with all large language models of this type.

Cons

I felt the after hours support was missing.. Lawyers work everyday of the week, even if they dont want to. 24/7 Support is necessary.

The transition was very good and it's so much of an improvement over Clio. The team at Smokeball is very good at what they do. Smokeball as a case management system is the future of case management.

Pros

It's designed for efficiency. Every process for attorneys is designed for hyper efficiency. My favorite feature is the AI tracking of my time spent processing emails in Outlook.

Cons

The accounting features aren't as good as what we had with Clio. The accounting features don't stack up against all of the thoughtful process designed for case management. It would be nice to have more options to enter future court dates within a matter.

Smokeball tracks time spent while in Outlook. It is also really, really efficient and the processes have been thought out very well.

Excellent experience overall. The people care about what they do and are always striving to make a better product.

Pros

Smokeball meets Whiting Injury Law's needs perfectly. We are a personal injury law firm and the Smokeball platform lends itself beautifully to that practice area. Moreover, the Smokeball team works hard to implement meaningful changes to the platform unique to the firm's needs. Cannot recommend it enough!

Cons

Can't think of anything negative to say. Anytime I felt that Smokeball did not provide what I wanted, they added it for me. So, no complaints.
