“just community support - in most cases, if you use many plugins and something goes wrong, every plugin developer says it is not his plugin fault but some other plugin conflict)- TCO for prestashop is not so small as you may thing, especially if you compare prices for Shopify or similar paid platforms where hosting, updates, security and functionalities are included in monthly price- some plugins are written badly so it is hard to find bugs or debug them- closed plugins (via ionCube) mostly without any custom\_functions hook to extend functionality- lack of well developed themes (not only by graphics, but mostly SEO/UX/performance optimizations are missing)“

### "Leading tool for ecommerce companies"

June 7, 2024

5.0

Pros

Prestahsop offers a great combination of inventory, order and ecommerce management. It´s more expensive than similar tools and offers a good price-quality ratio.

Cons

The catalog management becomes quite manual, it would be great to improve the product entry process.

Reason for choosing PrestaShop

More and better functionalities, could be scaled easily.

### "A Open Source eCommerce platform with free native options for multilingual management to sell internationally"

January 12, 2026

5.0

A very complete basic solution for setting up your own international online store without having to rely on monthly SAS (Software as a Service) fees. It natively requires additional modules to handle content marketing at the level offered by other CMSs, for example, or to integrate additional functionalities, although there is a PrestaShop Addons Marketplace with modules/themes and a good online community of resources.

Pros

Open Source eCommerce platform with free native options for multilingual management and advanced logistics/tax management to sell online internationally in multiple languages in different countries without the need for additional modules

Cons

The Open Source version requires initial installation/configuration and ongoing updates, making it a more technical process with significant compatibility issues with older versions, modules, and themes. However, they now also offer a PS Cloud (Hosted/Enterprise) version as a SaaS service, where they handle all the technical aspects for a fee.

Reason for choosing PrestaShop

### "Great e-commerce platform, particularly suitable for large catalogues"

November 29, 2024

5.0

I have been using PrestaShop for several years, since version 1.6, and I can say that I know it quite thoroughly. I definitely prefer it to other e-commerce platforms for its completeness and the ability to manage large catalogues, even if it occasionally presents some small bugs that are almost never resolved in subsequent releases. Being very widespread, you can find online many third-party modules and templates at low prices.

Pros

One of the most complete and efficient e-commerce systems around, very complete, customizable and also suitable for large catalogues. Excellent organization of the backoffice in managing orders and products.

Cons

Unfortunately some small but annoying technical bugs are also retained in new releases. It must be known thoroughly in order to make technical changes. Some third-party modules occasionally conflict with each other.

### "A Beautiful User Interface Shopping Cart Software "

February 10, 2021

4.0

Its a great shopping cart software , it only needs the developer of the shopping cart to make the admin dashboard to be easy to use, then all countries needs to be added by default in their future versions. As for the front end design, its perfect! then

Pros

I so much love its themes because they're so elegant and responsive on all devices. Prestashop also has some nice plugins which are free then i love its product image zoom feature. Then cross-selling products on Prestashop is excellent. Ability to install different languages at the admin dashboard so that the website visitors can translate the store in their respective languages is great.

Cons

Prestashop themes are expensive and their customer support doesn't respond on time which isn't good enough. All countries aren't installed in the localization section of the admin dashboard which will hinder those buyers from the excluded countries from completing their transactions. Whenever you have issues at the admin dashboard section, you must have a basic PHP knowledge to fix it

### "An easy-to-use platform for creating simple websites"

February 14, 2023

4.0

For your online store, Prestashop is analogous to a cargo ship. If you run a small business, you'll appreciate the ease of use and robust features that Prestashop offers for your online store.

Pros

The front-end experience, including the interface, search functionality, and purchasing wizard, must be intuitive and simple to use. Managing products in the administration area is similarly simple and straightforward. The process is simple enough for a person with no technological background to manage.

Cons

Theme support is weak when compared to rivals like Shopify and woocommerce. Further, it employs a PHP-based server, making it more vulnerable to malicious software.

Excellent if your store is just getting started or is on the smaller side. It's simple to set up and offers a wide variety of personalization choices. In addition, many extensions are available for installation.

### "Good, but falling behind WooCommerce for WordPress"

February 5, 2024

3.0

Nowadays the cons overweight's the pros when we compare with WooCommerce, so we basically almost gave up using it and are fully focused on WordPress, with great ROI based on that bet.

Pros

We used to work with Prestashop for ecommerce up until 8 years ago roughly. We started to notice that WooCommerce was starting to evolve and the seamless integration with WordPress is behond "just another plugin". It literally works perfectly together to act as a great ecommerce platform. Also, having experience developing for both platforms (we develop and sell plugins/modules for both platforms) it's a lot faster to develop for WordPress/WooCommerce than it is for Prestashop.

Cons

Community is not that huge compared to WordPress. Development, due to the way the core was created, is more time consuming than WordPress and that makes it less appealing because it costs more for customers.

Alternatives considered

[WooCommerce](https://www.capterra.com/p/225601/WooCommerce/)

Reason for choosing PrestaShop

At the time, it was just better. WooCommerce was not mature yet and so we thought it was a good bet.

### "prestashop pour les ecommerce"

October 14, 2025

4.0

Pros

PrestaShop is an e-commerce CMS similar to WooCommerce that allows you to create online stores easily. The user interface is simple, and there are specific modules available for different types of projects. Templates are easy to find and install, and the platform handles everything from creating to publishing articles or online shops. It’s also simple to integrate an online payment system through APIs from payment service providers.

Cons

PrestaShop is quite heavy to install locally and takes up a lot of space. Its modules are paid and often expensive for individuals. There are occasional bugs that can be difficult to fix, and the backend isn’t really designed for non-technical users.

### "In my opinion the best open source platform for online stores"

July 2, 2018

5.0

Pros

Easy to configure, easy to update ( one click update ), easy to install new modules and themes and builders. One of the most versatile platforms for physical and virtual goods. I have custom made for customers shops with upwards of 1 million products, imported from dropshipping suppliers. It is very easy to manage, tons of free and premium modules and upgrades. A solid infrastructure to rely on and different profiles with permission for employs. Very Reliable for large amounts of traffic.

Cons

Not that great for backups. Modules and themes don't work from 1.5 to 1.6 to 1.7, have to reorder or to download new version ( incompatible by design of the code ). Big community but not that active. Translations needs an upgrade, being made by contributions from authors.

### "Prestashop your simple open source ecommerce software"

March 30, 2020

4.0

We have worked with Prestashop for clients. It is quite simple to get up and running but the running costs escalate as the project gets bigger. Hosting is a big requirement and you will need plugins for integration as integration can sometimes be a problem when you need to integrate with other software.

Pros

Prestashop is free opensource software and a great platform to start off your website. With minimal knowledge you can be up and running. It is not heavily reliant on plugins so you can get your website going without having to purchase plugins. The admin panel is also very user friendly and our clients love it.

Cons

Prestashop is not a small platform. You need a lot of hosting space. Talk to an experienced hosting provider to make sure you have the correct hosting package.

Cons

### "Great software to use for your online store"

July 20, 2018

5.0

Pros

It is one of the most undervalued softwares in the online space. You can really build your store in just a couple of minutes, with tons of modules and themes also from third parties you can have any type of store, either physical or virtual goods. With over 1 million websites constructed with this platform is a great asset to build with.

Cons

The difference from major versions is amazing, you have to carefully upgrade on a test website, to not ruin your website. It is best done by a professional

### "Great Open-Source Product"

February 16, 2018

5.0

Pros

We are using Prestashop for creating the most of our E-commerce products. Open-Source Platform and existing market with plugins - are the main advantages to use Prestashop for small-middle sized projects.

Cons

After updating the version of Prestashop, some of the plugins have to be recorded because the system is alerting us that there are some errors in platform update. In case you have a lot of project on Prestashop at the same time, it consumes quite a lot of time.

### "Working with PrestaShop as a developer and as an e-tailor"

October 11, 2019

4.0

We like working with PrestaShop, from both ways we are working with the software. So as well from a developer’s vision as from an e-tailor point of view.

Pros

As an e-tailor we like the flexibility of PrestaShop as an CMS, the large community who work with the software and the way you can make use of the software. As a developer and PrestaShop Partner we like the diversity of the product and the way we can build converting web shops for our customers.

Cons

The one thing we like the least is the assistance we get from PrestaShop themselves. Luckily the community is very active, and this solves most of our problems, but PrestaShop should have a more hands-on mentality.

Reason for choosing PrestaShop

We worked with PrestaShop as developer of the product. But now we have developed a new business opportunity and work with it as an B2B e-tailor as well.

### "Decent Online Store Option, But Has Drawbacks"

July 17, 2019

4.0

I've got a ton of experience with running and configuring Magento, but I wanted to try PrestaShop simply to use something different on my own business storefront to expand my own knowledge, not to mention that Magento needs more power than PrestaShop. Although PS is easy enough to setup and get running, it lacks a few features which I would consider "standard" by today's terms, not to mention that there is also a serious lack of free/opens source plug-ins available for it like Magento has, which includes things like themes. Overall, the store does its job and works well once all the modules are in place, but In the grand scheme, I would consider PrestaShop as a stepping stone to something bigger and better like Magento or more.

Pros

Prestashop is for the large part, free to use, and pretty easy to setup and maintain. Most website hosting companies have a single-click installer for it, making getting started easy. Creating categories, products and advanced products is all very easy with very nice menus and layouts, and the default theme is surprisingly useful. Prestashop also comes with many of today's standard features built-in.

Cons

The cost of the add-on modules for PrestaShop is ridiculous, and so is the platform's reliance on those modules. There is no way to do anything except free or basic flat-rate shipping unless you spend considerable monies on buying realtime rates modules for EACH shipper, or subscribing to a third-party app that combines and does the checking in a single package, which is costly. Accessing anything except the software's basic features can be incredibly clumsy as well.

### "One of the best user-friendly free shopping cart software"

November 8, 2016

4.0

I've started using the PrestaShop around 2 years ago and I'm still into this system. The experience with the system I got during all this time and throughout my several projects is enough to write ah honest review about the system. Starting with the advantages, the biggest advantage of the PrestaShop is its huge support community which is the best ever help a developer can dream of. Discussion boards with active users make a big difference. Furthermore, one of the biggest advantages is also the administration panel of the PrestaShop which is way easy to use than say other competitor platforms. What's more important for me is the extended functionality and efficiency. The function ility is far more than any user would ever think to want to have on their websites and as for efficiency, PrestaShop is lightweight and well optimised, thus not loading the servers. As for the disadvantages, there are of course some. The biggest disadvantage is that most of the most useful functionalities require the additional investments to have installed in my PrestaShop. What I also noticed, in a case of big products quantity, Prestashop does not function as well as it initially did. To conclude, PrestaShop is good for starting the e-commerce. The system works well with medium or a small number of products, but PrestaShop's efficiency, when there are 100 products isn't any better than when there are 1000. Overall, I would suggest this to the beginner in e-commerce users.
