Pros: Having working with various paid and free electronic health record services at various institutions, I came across Kareo while researching for my presentation on mobile technology, cloud computing, and medicine at a national medical conference. The features, intuitive interface, ease of use, and HTML5 programming, which allows cross-platform interface and real-time update speed was remarkable. I've seen institutions spend millions of dollars on electronic health record/ambulatory medical record systems for the physicians' offices. However, the amount of time it takes to get the staff trained, the monthly subscription fees, the lag time for the providers due to complexity of the systems, constant system crashes, and the need to do extensive programming for these paid systems make me wonder why nobody has come up with a free EHR/AMR system that has all the features needed for physicians and mid-level providers without all the hassles. Most EHR/AMR systems are user-friendly for the billers and clerical staff, but not intuitive or user-friendly for the clinic staff and providers. This is not the case with Kareo. Kareo is extremely easy to navigate for any physicians, midlevel providers, and clinic staff. They can get the system running with little or no training because the interface is extremely intuitive and simple with built-in and customizable templates that allow you and your staff to complete intake, history, physical, and charting in minutes. The system has all the features that meet Stage I and II CMS meaningful use and allow your practice to obtain the EHR bonus with ease. Most of all, it is built for both mobile and desktop platforms. My staff and I can access Kareo EHR system with our mobile phone, PDAs, iPads, and Google-based pads with ease. The integrated billing features and electronic prescription features, along with integration with various laboratory and diagnostic test centers make Kareo a complete EHR solution for small to mid-size practices. It is not easy to impress me, having built the entire IT infrastructure myself for my own practice and for several medical practices around the country. Kareo's cloud-based EHR system makes it easy for migration, conversion, and implementation, without having to upgrade to expensive server systems. Any office with a desktop and mobile device can get the system up and running within hours, not days or weeks or months. I am impressed and amazed with all the features within Kareo. I would recommend any office looking to migrate, to convert their existing costly EHR, or to migrate from paper charts to EHR should consider Kareo.

Cons: It needs a patient health record/portal and automatic appointment reminders to patients via text to mobile phones, e-mails, and letters.

Recommendations to other buyers: Sign up. Try to set up test patients and compare the difference.

I began to use this system with templates that I created. I have used different systems and found this feature to be difficult. I have designed my own website so I am not a stranger to template making tasks.

Comments: I appreciate the discount for e prescribing only. I am a single person office, pay for a schedule system that is excellent and allows the pt. to prepay, and tech support is five + stars.

Pros: I can e prescribe and this is a great time saver. However, I would like to more easily print scripts for controlled substances without using 1 sheet per script. I treat ADHD and my patients often require 6 scripts.I do not use the scheduler, notes, etc. Because I do not take insurance, it appears that the insurance features would be beneficial. I also like the ability to find diagnoses for ICDM-10 by referencing ICDM-9.

Cons: One must find the pharmacy in demographics so as not to waste time. Using the prescription generator oftentimes will display those applicable pharmacies as does the demographics page.

Pros: Very easy to learn how to use on your own. Other than that, it is not the easiest program to use for behavioral health.

Cons: Very slow and cumbersome and not user-friendly for counselors 1 Cannot enter groups all at once (having a preloaded listing of clients and enter a visit in and have it populate automatically in all their charts) 2 No treatment planning option at all; other programs have treatment plans that ties notes and counselors to specific treatment plans (cannot update them electronically); 3 Even when you choose more than 10 clients per page, you still have to scroll down; window does not fit screen; if you get out of it, it defaults back to 10 clients; slows down progress 4 You should be able to print all notes out for client at one time I have worked at both the state and federal level and while their systems were much more in-depth, they were more user-friendly and ease of navigation.

Comments: We selected Kareo to use right out of the gate for a veteran Doctor opening a start-up clinic with zero initial staff. Kareo training support during our initial phase was excellent, consistent, and readily available by phone and by online chat (a feature that we LOVE).

After the initial training phase, they have remained readily accessible, although due to the stability and ease of the product, we rarely need assistance even at the 9 months marker. As a consultant in billing and insurance for over 20 years, I have put it through the paces really hard, expecting optimal performance, and placing many demands on performance and accuracy that some might not.

Kareo has performed well while enabling me to easily train four new staff (who had no previous experience in the field) how to run the front office functions and even the initial entry of encounters for billing.

We like the security available to various levels of user profiles! Very helpful to include or exclude certain functions by employee. Another area we really use is the TASK function. With several employees, billing located in a different location, and all working different shifts, the task function is a huge plus for this software.

Kareo makes it easy to set up or switch and to comply with today's insurance, billing, and EHR regulations. An added bonus is that if we, or you, ever decide to outsource the billing portion, say, for instance, if you lost staff or just wanted to move billing out of the clinic, Kareo is positioned to immediately pickup and continue those functions seamlessly because of the cloud-based system. We particularly like the security of that backup plan.

We couldn't be more pleased on performance and ease of use. The highly competitive rate, month to month no contract, and no large upfront costs or maintenance fees are all excellent features as well!

With two generations of healthcare providers and a combined over 50 years in the field, and having previously owned a physician billing software company for more than 20 years, we are pleased to give Kareo a high recommendation.

Pros: The reporting ability and the ease of being able to explain a balance to a patient. Scheduling a patient on the right day/time is important and being able to time block and customize for 5 Drs has been beneficial.

Customer Service reps are always there when we need them to walk us through an issue, which isn't what we always experience.

Cons: Updates can be tricky. If we had notice of exactly what pieces were being updated, it would help out quite a bit. However, updates aren't that frequent and usually its for the better.

Overall: Having multiple Drs under one set up was originally tricky. Once I was able to get in there and move around a little I was able to do what I needed and patients have not been affected.

Comments: Started small with just the billing platform and have expanded to billing support, EHR, and marketing. The EHR and billing work seamlessly and accounts can be viewed in EHR. Pt reminders are via phone, text and email. Most insurance verification can be done on the platform. Labs and other ancillary services can download results into the EHR.

Pros: It's the total package. You can purchase as much support or as little as you feel you need. Marketing made a big difference for us. The pt reminders have made a huge difference also.

Cons: Sometimes your team gets changed and there is a getting to know you stage.

Recommendations to other buyers: Do the EHR and billing platform together. Some EHRs claim they can work 100% with a billing platform but once you've experienced it, and experienced lost data that didn't translate over, you won't go back.

Pros: Initially, the electronic software (EHR) was free, which allowed considerable forgiveness of the product. I initially appreciated the technical support from people who cared about their product and service. Unfortunately, the most common replies to questions from I.T. were apologies for not being able to provide what customers wanted and needed the most, see below.

Cons: 1. Creating progress notes frustrating. Must save notes before changing screens, otherwise all information LOST. No auto-save. Saving data prior to change in screen, must save and CLOSE the document. Multiple steps to re-open again. Always inefficient.

2. Doctorbase is an "answering device for providers" to provide caller's phone number. The glitch for NEW callers: NO NAME provided, no message recorded. 10-15 "unknown" callers by end of day: 1/2 -3/4 were salesmen or bankers wanting to give loans.

3. When I changed companies, unable to transfer data in bulk. Had to transfer every patient individually. Other companies ALL had ability for bulk transfer. Would have to transfer emails individually, all 15,000.

4. Limited & unsophisticated ability to create progress notes to limit key strokes.

5. Requesting program upgrades: infrequent, rarely helpful, never quick or responsive even for minor change requests.

6. Initial support staff NEVER heard from again. I had to sort out problems by trial and error . I had 10 years prior experience in sophisticated programs before this disaster.

7. This is only a few of the problems I had before leaving. 6 months later, I received a call from Kareo asking how I would like to improve my experience & upgrade the system. They apparently did not know I was long gone.

8. Working with pharmacies never smooth or easy.

9. Many more issues, unfortunately, that I have suppressed.

Overall: From Kareo: no significant benefit, mainly frustration.

From your program to review Kareo: this was easy, helpful and productive. You know how to keep a person on-point.

Pros: It takes Care of most of our needs and is user friendly. We love the fact that Kareo listens to our needs and works on updates. Their customer service is outstanding.

Cons: There some few areas that need to be improved sooner than later.

1 -When you send a referral the demographics should be included and the options to send labs and studies.

2- when you upload results for the Dr you should be able to assigned them to the dr for reviewing and signing off on them. ( we can do labs and studies but not referrals or consuls or other important things.

3. The hospitalization and procedure section needs to be improved. Because when people get admitted to the hospital they generally have studies done and that section does not allow you to add any more than one thing per day.

4. I feel there should be a place for the hippa to be documented in the demographics sections. We currently use the note section in the demographics and document it there.

Pros: Easy to use EHR, support however is nearly absent. If the product is not go down in flames, they need to sell it off to a company who can do a little cpr to stop from running screaming from the building when they cant support, answers to questions about their monthly invoice, or even help configuring the program so you can actually use it. The lack of support is just baffling!

Cons: Once we got the system, it was like the vendor fell off the face of the earth. First our sales rep quit calling us, then our success coach disappeared, and so on and so forth. Messages are left in a cabbage patch where calls are not returned. They keep overbilling us for products and services we are not using or that they have failed to provide, and then there is nobody to talk to to correct the problem.

Recommendations to other buyers: Randomly call support and ask questions to see if they ever answer.

Pros: This software is user friendly and the ability to show others makes it helpful.

Cons: Some of the report options. Drs will ask for something in particular that I just can't produce. There are also a couple options that are editable when info is entered we feel should not be.

Overall: I have been using Kareo for 2 1/2 years and we haven't had any major issues w/downtime and/or malfunctions w/in the systerm

Recommendations to other buyers: Try it out and know that help is only a phone call away when you run into problems. We have never had to stay on hold for a help representative for long periods of time which makes running an office easier.

Pros: Pros would consist of the ease of learning the fundamentals of working the EHR. It is pretty self explanatory once you fire up the application.

Cons: Our practice is located in Arizona, and the time on our EHR is incorrect since the base of kareo is located in California our system is on California time as opposed to Arizona. We have brought this issue to kareo, nothing was done there was no resolution to this matter and the time is still incorrect. One major issue that we are having is, we use a desk top for the use of kareo and as well as an Apple IPad. We are having an issue accessing "labs and studies" on the iPad and every time we open up this tab our app not only kicks us out but does not allow us to access the labs from the iPad thus causing Dr. Patel to then have to leave patients room come to the front to look at the labs, majorly taking away from Doctor Patient time. This matter has been brought to kareo's attention numerous amounts of times, and still it is not resolved we have been having this issue now for a total of 3-4 months. We call and receive a very typical answer from them stating that "we have our engineers working on it and someone will give you a call" no one ever gives our office a call back. we are very dissatisfied at this point with kareo and cons definitely out weigh the pros with this system.

Pros: The software is easy to learn and use. It is easy to verify the patients insurance and you can save it each time you verify it.

Cons: not an easy way to apply credits to another service line or another date of service, clearing house rejections do not always have a clear explanation to why they reject. When charting, it will not auto save and if you do not do chart quick enough, it will kick you out of the system and you loose everything you've charted on.

Comments: I think they are a good program overall but i would be cautious before using them.

Pros: I felt like this company really understood how to brand, sell their product, good customer support, and had great usability. I felt like they were overall a good program and would recommend to smaller practices that are interested in building their practice and patient reviews.

Cons: I felt like the program was limited, had some bugs here and there, and was overall had the issues of new programs. I don't think bigger brands could deal with this bugs and wait through the length process to hear back from technical customer support for issues that shouldn't exist in the first place. This brand was also a little too sales focused, not genuine, which is a huge turn off for me.

Pros: The scheduler is very helpful, I like that we can place a color coordination. I also like that you can view it when you hoover your mouse over it.

Pros: I like that all of the information is hooked together. So, you can make a note that will on each record, along with the relevant information.

Cons: The search features are not great. You can put a word into the search that you know should bring something up, and it says no result. I would like an easier way to look for information.

Comments: Calender should be printed in the grid format rather than each appointment, so that appropriate time grids can be maintained well.

Pros: Ease of use, text shortcut features are awesome, ease of loading the template to initiate the note.

Cons: Needs more categorization for templates regarding therapy and rehabilitation. Printing the notes is a challenge as you have to print them one by one. If there is a feature to print multiple notes at same time, it will be really helpful to save time and make the chart at the end of treatment course, rather than printing one note at a time.

Comments: To date, I have used Kareo EHR for the best part of a year. Altho like any record keeping system there is a learning curve, but after that, it becomes very intuitive. The templates are very helpful. Overall, I would recommend this for anyone.

Pros: The program is customizable and the templates make life easy. The info available inside the system about the drugs the patient is taking is helpful when you find a drug you are not familiar with.

Cons: The flip side of the templates---you have to customize the program. The program is designed to work for most any application so if you don't use it all, you can delete that part. During the time I've used the program, there have been updates that are a bit frustrating because you have to figure out how to do what you need to do after the change. It would be nice if there was some communication from Kareo to let us know what the changes are and how to work with the changes.

Recommendations to other buyers: Look at the different modules and what they do. Some of the modules and services available I can't use because Kareo doesn't have my specialty available to promote. Look at all the services prior to finding them elsewhere.

Pros: Kareo is super easy to get comfortable with if you've ever used an EHR, works in most browsers, cloud based, rarely if ever have we had a system slowdown or shutdown. The scheduler, in clinic workflow, and patient communication are really well done. ERx and direct address are well integrated. Templates are numerous and easy to build and customize. Easy to use old notes to build new ones. Very easy for non clinical staff to learn.

Cons: Using Kareo in a cash only environment isn't the easiest. They steer you to their credit card processor and don't really make it easy to run your own. The support is mostly responsive but can be superficial.

Pros: I like the ability to check eligibility for major insurance carriers. Scanning documents has been a big improvement for my office.

Cons: It's not user-friendly at all, and it's very time-consuming. Anyone taking appointments should be able to do it in a matter of minutes. Don't purchase the PM system if the appointment schedule is essential to your practice. First, you can purchase the feature for reminder calls at an additional cost. I don't know what they were thinking when they chose the vendor. The call comes through without the name of the physician (I was told physicians with odd names were not happy as they were mispronounced so they just state, "You have an appointment with your physician"). When I called about this, a customer representative told me patients should know who their appointment is with. Second, there is not a feature allowing the patient to either confirm or cancel the appointment. It is nothing more than a reminder call. To make matters worse, there is no indication on the schedule that the patient was even called. When I called Kareo to find out why, I was told it had to do with their vendor, and I could not have access to any reports regarding calls. I could, however, call Kareo daily, and they would tell me who wasn't called. If you want to see which of your patients have checked in, you have to go to the appointment, right-click it, and see if they checked in. There should be a way of looking at the schedule and seeing who checked in and out, who was a no-show, and who cancelled. I manage a practice, and I want to look at my schedule and know who was here and who wasn't. I shouldn't have to run a report. I need to see as much information on the schedule as possible clearly. In case anyone is looking into this system with the hope that these issues will be resolved, forget it. I was told these are not priorities. While customer care has been attentive, I get that famous saying "I'm sorry for your inconvenience."

Recommendations to other buyers: I had very high hopes when it was sold to us. Check carefully that this system really meets your needs.

Comments: I am currently using this EHR because my billing company recommended it since they use the Kareo practice management. It has been a nightmare for me having used a much better EHR - Athena. The onboarding process was a disaster and after 3 months, the lab integration has not been completed with labcorp and there is no follow-ups. I have to initiate every contact with my coach who should be reaching out to me to make sure that my transition to kareo is seamless. There is no integration with Imaging centers so you have to order the tests and then manually fax to the imaging center unlike Athena. When it comes to labs, you cannot find some of them like a common FIT test to screen for colon cancer. How about e-prescribing? Forget about prescribing common diabetes supplies like test strips, lancet or OTC medications, they are not there. With Athena, once you start typing the name of the supply you need, it pulls everything up and you can transmit those to the pharmacy electronically. For those you now want to fax to the pharmacy manually, the pharmacy name, phone or fax # does not even show on the prescription so you have to go back to the patient's chart and go to somewhere in the demographics to find the fax # and then write it down or memorize before faxing. When you place a referral, you cannot attach documents such as labs, radiology reports to the referral before efaxing. What is the point efaxing just a referral and then printing out other relevant records that should accompany the referral to manually fax....so dumb. How about releasing a patient result to their portal, you are not able to comment on the results that you are releasing to the patient. You have to send a different message to the patient after you have already released the results. Now, I keeping getting an error sending a message to patients through the portal using Google chrome browser and Firefox with different computers and they don't have any clue what is going on. I can't get any help with the technical support or my coach. They created a case and that's it. I guess I need to be calling them and taking time from caring for the patients to be doing that before I can resolve any issues.

Pros: Frankly, I do not see any

Pros: Ease of use is what I like best about Kareo.

Cons: I do wish that the IT department at Kareo was easier to work with. When we do have an error it is very hard to get to the bottom of the problem.

Overall: We love Kareo it is very user friendly and it made the transition to ICD 10 much easier than it would have been otherwise.

Recommendations to other buyers: IT is a great deal for the money. I would recommend using it in any practice.

Pros: Kareo is extremely easy to navigate. Customization for what you prefer is an excellent feature. The ability to complete various tasks such as billing, entering notes, etc. is very efficient.

Cons: The price for this software is beginning to be a bit high for our practice, but the software itself is amazing.

Pros: It is easy to use. I had no training however I was able to jump right in and begin using on the first day. Navigation is simple. Categories use language familiar to my field. Everything flows together nicely. I like that notes can be copied and then updated. This is especially helpful when doing groups. I also like the templates as they create a good start to entering information into a note. I like there are no minimums required in the note sections. They also handle a lot of information. I have never had one say I reached a maximum number of characters.

Cons: I don't like that it isn't easy to cancel a note you start and don't want to finish unless you change the note type. I also don't like that when you change the note type it doesn't give you the option to bring forth the information you were typing into the new form. I would like to be able to take sections out of notes when a particular category doesn't fit.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure there is a trial period to see if you it works for you. Take the time to learn the software.

Comments: Overall, great EMR and PM that is manageable on a modern platform.

Pros: Integration with PM and Telemedicine platforms are nearly seamless Support is available and always ready to setup screen share It actually works like it's supposed to. Rarely has technical problems where this is so common with other PMs and EMRs I've used.

Cons: Like all RCM software, it has a learning curve and can be confusing at first There are a lot of online tools that are helpful but not always introduced until you inquire about it. Does not work on Mac OS unless you have Virtual machine - something they should mention on the sales call

It has it's good days and bad days

Pros: I love that the customer service is always willing and available when we are in dire need. I love the EHR side where I can see patients check in and all there health history and note in one section. I also love the EHR side where if you are in a note you don't have to log out of that note to see the contents of a different note. I like how the EHR side shows when I person is late, how long and changes color. Documents also have gotten easier to scan in on the EHR side.

Cons: I do not like having two sides to the program, PMR and EHR. It would be easier if you could schedule, see all appointments of each patient, account history (services rendered), billing, and health history & notes all on the EHR side. It doesn't make since to have to flip back and forth to each system. Especially when the providers work mainly in the EHR side. They need to be able to see things in the PMR side just as much as the Front Desk does. I also hate that you can't split appointments by providers by time in PMR

Recommendations to other buyers: When evaluating software think about all areas of the job, not just the providers but the front office, back office, and billing depts. There is no reason each area should have a different system to work out of. Keep it simple and not complex.

We have been using this for some time and it's the best and easiest to learn how to use of all them.

Comments: Pros:

Make sure you compile a list of everything you require and have them agree "in writing". Make sure you do your "due diligence" and check reviews from real users (like me) and make sure all reports provide all the information you require. If the only way you can collect the information you need is by combining the results of 2 or more reports decide if that's the way you want to waste your users' time.

Cons:

If you require a "Custom" report your queries are limited to their selections and when you're query is for a patient the DOS (Data of Service) is not included (What?). If you have a practice with multiple locations and you need reports by individual locations you're out of luck! There are, however, many meaningless Defaults.

It's not "Rocket Science" the information is there because we put it there.

You must beg for access for your information by submitting a "Feature Request" and there isn't a response to the request and they're ignored on the forums. The "Community Forum" no longer exists - You now need to complete a survey for your request(s)

Notes you provide are inaccessible, you aren't allowed to copy, you must run a report - What a waste of time!

The response I receive is that there aren't any companies providing "Feature Requests". That is why they dropped the forum - Now complaints, Issues and Requests are hidden from perspective new clients.

Recommendation:

Return the "Community Forum" and respond to your customers - Don't hide!

Exactly what we need!

Comments: We have a small practice and weren't happy with the current software we were using. We were looking for a software that wouldn't break the bank but would offer some good options and a great product. Well, we found that with Kareo.

Pros: The software is user-friendly, a lot of reports are available - Kareo also has an 'add-in' for Excel where users can build their own reports with the data ( a time consuming great option for us!). Setting up the company and some of the time-consuming - but most set-ups can be. Online chat support, quick response to emails, etc.

Cons: A 'coach' was assigned during the onboarding process to assist with the general set-up and questions; the support wasn't the best (initially). However, - we are now completely satisfied with the support received and someone is always available to answer our questions.

Recommendations to other buyers: Suggest others find out exactly what they need from the software.... the list of needs / wants, etc. and go from there. Not all software is created the same so do your homework before jumping in.

Cons: i have been using Kareo for many years. The customer support is very frustrating. Hold time to speak to someone is more than 30 minutes. Today I try to contact someone regarding EHR support.after waiting on hold for 35 minutes someone answered the phone. The line was not clear and I couldn't understand what she was talking. Further questioning she was in Costa Rica and did not have any clue what I am talking about. She transfered me to someone and again another hold for 20 minutes. Finally I had to hang up the line. I am using another EHR for my nursing home patients MDLOG/MDOPS. Customer service is excellent. Get to talk to some one within few minutes and the reply and help I get from them is very impressive. I wanted to talk to someone in Kareo who can help me. The answer is we will create a ticket and someone will contact me later. Never get a call back. I don't have time to write reviews but I am forced to do with the lack of knowledge their support staff has.

Pros: I like that the EHR and billing portions are integrated and I like the ease of use. It was very easy to learn how to use Kareo's EHR and billing software. I like the web app so I can work from home.

Cons: The only con I've found so far is that when I sign a chart note, the note is closed so then I have to reopen it to e-fax it.

Comments: I am puzzled by previous positive reviews that I read when researching products for a new practice compared to my experiences with other products in the past and my experiences in trying to implement Kareo. When Kareo was free, people must felt it sufficed and not worth complaining. The total lack of response to questions or complaints is surreal. I do not see how this company can survive. I'm trying to figure out whether to bail out now or try to adapt to get at least something from my investment of time so far.

Pros: It allows flexibility to structure notes to include narrative information.

Cons: Can't get answers to questions or any sensible follow up from startup coach who always states that he will check with a colleague and get back to us but never does. This is the worse customer service I have ever experienced in my life. Requests to talk with a supervisor lead nowhere. No one responds. Chat line staff sign off on problem tickets before reported problem resolved. Problems abound in almost every area--saved notes disappear without explanation, e-prescribing is cumbersome and not suited to work flow typical office practice. There is no training module and no instrcutions available for the e fax services through updox, no glossary of error messages, not reliable transmission to send or receive.

Comments: Kareo has been a great tool for our practice. We are a non-profit so we had to be careful that we got the functionality we needed without breaking the bank. Kareo is exactly that. It's easy to use, allowing us to chart patient encounters, bill claims and analyze practice data.

Pros: The interface is fairly intuitive and easy to use. We love the messaging features within the program. Charting is easy.

Cons: Some of the practice/claims management processes are cumbersome and confusing. Additional functions to the calendar would be nice including interval scheduling. An Android app would be wonderful and a Mac compatible PM program would be great too. Workflow is hard to track where you can't easily where appointments are in the process of signing, submitting a bill, etc.

Recommendations to other buyers: Take advantage of the online training videos. Ask lots of questions. Make sure you are comfortable with the software before you dive in. Other than that, Kareo works great for our small group practice.

Pros: Very easy to use in comparison to majority of other medical billing software solutions out there. US based support that is there when you need them most - ultimately we have support from 9am EST - 8pm EST... The versatility and adaptability through it's open API solution is incredible!

Cons: There aren't any negatives for a small to medium and even some large sized practices.

Recommendations to other buyers: Nothing compares in terms of ease of use - it's not an enterprise solution and doesn't have the functionality and customization ability of some much larger systems but it also has way more functionality than what's most commonly needed in the field of medical billing

Comments: My biller used Kareo. When her business closed I stayed with Kareo billing and started using the EHR because it was free if you used their billing services. I never liked the actual EHR but it's integration with the billing software was important. I previously used the old version of MISYS which was noncompliant with the new rules under Obamacare. In comparison to MISYS and like anything free, this program is far, far inferior. It was like going from a Mercedes to a bicycle. Some examples: ·Scanned documents are all lumped together in one box unlike MISYS where documents are sorted under consults, studies, labs, hospital, etc and easily found. ·The font on prescriptions is 6-8 and can't be changed. It's so tiny I'm embarrassed whenever I have to give a patient a script. ·I'm in Ohio. Kareo was cited by the Ohio Pharmacy Board for noncompliance. Escribing was shut down all summer. Now at the end of the day I have to print out and maintain a list of every script I write. ·I can't see prescriptions from other doctors. They don't use Silver Scripts. I could go on but the worse thing just happened. I was given a 28 day notice of a 40 % price increase in what they charge me for billing so I'm leaving. I discovered, as did another reviewer in this thread, that my data is hostage. I'll have to pay monthly to JUST LOOK at the EHR data. Or I can printout every patient's chart before they shut me off. They are shaking me down and holding my data as hostage. This is egregious but probably legal on their part and is probably in the contract I signed.

Pros: It's in the cloud so easily accessed

Cons: It's in cloud so your data will be hostage when you leave.

Recommendations to other buyers: Don't put your patient's medical data in the cloud. Nothing in life is free.

Pros: The free EHR is very easy to use and there is no cost if you don't add billing and practice management software. It's fairly intuitive to use but you need an Ipad. There is no corresponding app for a Windows-based tablet. It's very convenient for me because I have two locations and don't need to worry about paper files.

Cons: The cut and paste/copy text options are difficult to set up and somewhat cumbersome to use. If you use the web-based software then forget to log out, the client record is locked and you have to go back in through the web-based portion rather than using the Ipad.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure the formatting is convenient for you and easy to work with.

Pros: It is available on ipad and has a web version accessible everywehre.

Relatively cheaper than the competitior (drchrono)

Was free in the past so this one is only a good feature of the past (which allowed me to test it)

I really appreciate they have finally added patient messaging improvements to the ipad version

Cons: Least things happen automatic almost everything is manual (even lacks autosave for notes)

Messyness throught the experience

only for small or medium set up so i can not recommend to the hospital because of the lack of support for cordination at such a level

Only works with online pharmacies in the US (or atleast not in the country where i work)

Overall: I used it to keep patients records for some time. I learnt that it was useful only if the problems are removed.

Pros: We like the comprehensive pairing of front office and EHR components as well as how easy it is to train new staff on this system. We also like the ability to determine permissions for each user.

Cons: Would like the flexibility to tweak the walkout statements just a bit, but just a clinic preference, not a design flaw at all.

Pros: i found Kareo very easy to navigate and i did not have a problem with the tutotrials for how to use this great program.

Cons: What i liked the lease about this software is that when patients bring in medical insurance, i couldn't verify it

Overall: It helped alot with computing patients information and going back to it with ease to review was most benneficial

Good software for all medical practices

Pros: This software is straightforward and logical. It has the ability to give access or restrict depending on the user which keeps better control. The webinars are in laymans terms and directs you step by step how to set up the practice. The implementation webinars explain in the same manner. This software has a great reporting section which gives you the ability to generate any report using thousands of different parameters. Being web based gives employees the freedom to work from any computer with internet service which helps to cut loss of productivity.

Cons: I did have a slight difficulty with my implementation but by calling support, it turned out I had taken down some information out of order. They were able to quickly identify the problem and help me get back on track.

Overall: I would recommend this software to all medical practices as this company listens to the customer and is always striving to stay ahead of health care reform (and is doing a good job at it).

Pros: Support and implementation team were helpful during initial trainings. Pricing and trial were great for what it was.

Pros: Easy to use, attractive interface. Scheduling and searching up patients is very easy. easy to upload documents, check in patients.

Cons: Some things are very inconvenient. For example, I have to click twice to see a patients Birthday. If some additional information is provided on the appointment information, such as dob, address, and telephone number, that would be SO much more convenient. Also, the calendar print out for the next day is very bad. We have to DL the excel sheet and fix it everyday, which takes additional time. We should be able to modify the calendar on kareo instead of having to download the excel. Also needs to have ability to combine multiple patients with same information.

Recommendations to other buyers: I like Kareo but there are definitely areas to improve!

Pros: When I joined The Speech Emporium as their Billing Manager, I had not had any experience with billing. The Kareo system was extremely easy to learn and navigate. If I ran into a snag, all I had to do was reach out to a Kareo team member via chat and they would walk me thru the process. Without the ease of the Kareo system, I can honestly say that I would have faced a lot of frustrating days!

Cons: I've used it for a couple of years now and haven't found anything that I dislike about it yet.

Recommendations to other buyers: Check them all out, but I think you will find the ease of the Kareo system to be worth the cost.

Pros: The fact That it is easy and user intuitive.

Cons: There are several bugs which need to be addressed particularly when taking notes that become repetitive distraction.

Overall: We switched over to Kareo when our prior EHR became so secure that even we could not get into it! We have been please with the move. With only some minor bugs, the benefits of the software far exceed the irritations and the software is capable of doing other stuff that even the higher priced EHR's can't do.

Recommendations to other buyers: Strongly recommended as opposed to using significantly higher priced software which has less to offer.

User-friendly for part-timers.

Pros: As a semiretired nurse practitioner, I like Kareo for the ease of sliding back and forth into it and not having to relearn it each time I come back to work one day a week. I also appreciate the webinars.

Cons: It times out too quickly. If I have an interruption - e.g., phone calls, problem to solve at the moment - it is hard to get back into the program without having to start all over. Sometimes it lets me in through notes and sometimes not. That is frustrating. I think someone could help me through that if I contacted the vendor. I just haven't had time.

Recommendations to other buyers: Look at the details that are cuing you in to those federal guidelines to follow up after hospital dismissals in transitions of care; look at the dating of medication reconciliation, which is easily documented. Look at the functional assessment section for meeting Medicare requirements. It's all there. Ask billers about the capture of diagnoses and codes and the efficiency of filing claims. Our biller is happy. That makes us happy.

Comments: Kareo's EHR system is relatively easy to use and quite comprehensive. While there are components that are not needed within the mental health profession, it's fairly easy to figure out what is needed.

Pros: Entering client demographics is easy and useful. Finding what you need does not take long at all, as the navigation is very user-friendly.

Cons: I do not understand why the practice clients cannot be deleted in the EHR. They are not real clients. Also, it is not set-up to be Mac-friendly, at least from my perspective. Everything works fine on a Mac, but scrolling and getting to what you need can be cumbersome at times.

Recommendations to other buyers: Call Kareo and ask for a tour of the program. You'll see that it's easy to use, secure and user-friendly.

Pros: As an office manager for this practice for the past ten years, I greatly appreciate the ease of use of the Kareo system. Kareo has greatly improved our practice operations. It is an easy system to teach to our interns. I like the level of contact we are able to have with their support team.

Cons: My only complaint (if that is the correct word) is that we often get kicked off the system due to server problems. The physician often complains that when he is using voice recognition software, it disconnects before he can finish his notes.

Recommendations to other buyers: This is a great product for EHR purposes. The ease of use and functionality are key points to any EHR. This system is very easy to use and keeps your electronic medical records in a sensible and functional format. The physician in our practice did not have a lot of computer knowledge, as he is nearing retirement, but he has found this to be an easy transition into the electronic world of medical records.

Pros: Once you go through the Kareo training and submitted a few claims, you start to realize how great the software is. Also all the Employees at Kareo are professional and I feel that they really care about customer service. Whenever i need to get up to speed on a how to properly use Kareo, their support team is patient, thorough, professional and friendly. I love how the EHR integrates with the billing side of the software. And our claims are being paid fast. Also the automatic payment posting are great. Insurance verifications are quick also. This is the type of company I like to deal with. I really appreciate Kareo for giving me the tools and knowledge to expand my billing business.

Cons: I have not found anything negative about the software. And the training and support team is impeccable. I wish it was web based or Mac capable without using a windows simulator. Please Kareo work on this!

Recommendations to other buyers: Call Kareo and request a demo. I do not think anybody can find fault with their customer support.

Pros: fairly intuitive EHR. Really this is the only benefit. I started using this when it was free, and thats about what it is worth. Very little functionality. Basically no support.

Cons: They are not fully certified for meaningful use as advertised. They have not kept up with this lately. Customer support has gotten worse despite charging more and more. NOw they just email you support articles and charge you for "expert guidance". EHR is clunky, a lot of bugs. Notes often don't save. CHange pricing without notice!

Comments: After spending about 10-15 hours learning Kareo and starting to develop templates, I threw in the towel and canceled it. Thank goodness I was on a free 30-day trial period. The straw that broke the camel's back was not being able to schedule non-patient appointments and being told my request would not be dealt with by the engineers in the near future. They have their "roadmap" set for the next few months already and take customer input on a quarterly basis.

Pros: When I asked to speak to a manager, I got someone who was professional, nice, and apologetic for some problems I ran into. The "success training coach" was very friendly and genuinely seemed like he wanted to help and accommodate any request.

Cons: The sales rep did not communicate to the "success training coach" what I needed to have my EHR configured. We wasted hours on the phone trying to figure it out. Had she just communicated my needs to him ahead of time, he could have solved the issues behind the scenes, instead of having me lose a few hours of valuable time. After all of that, when I started using the system, I discovered you cannot book a non-patient appointment!!! The system does not allow you to schedule meetings or non-patient related phone calls!

Pros: We are switching from clinicsource to Kareo and so far we are loving the extra features we get - text/email alert for patients, ease of site navigation, multifunctionality and I absolutely love all the reports and tracking systems. I can't wait to see where are earning and losing money!

Cons: The only issue I keep hitting is the template system. I understand why it is as complicated as it is but I would love an even more comprehensive guide on how to create templates from scratch AND any templates related to speech therapy would be nice. There are ZERO at this time.

Pros: Kareo is very user-friendly software. There is always something in Kareo that can help you with questions and/or problems. If you can not find it in the help section, the live chat question feature is great.

Cons: The only thing that I can think of is the fact that they are on a different time zone, so when I come in, I have to wait a few hours, which really is not that big of a deal.

Recommendations to other buyers: My experience would be use all the tools that Kareo has to offer. Between the articles and webinars, you're able to go over and over and go back while you're in doing something to be able to find the answer. And when you enter something in and you're not totally sure you have done it right, hit the cancel button and nothing will be saved. That is great if you're posting and you're not sure about it or if it was entered wrong. Even if you do save, billing gives you the option to "delete last transaction." It's the greatest tool ever.

Pros: Kareo is user-friendly. It's a many faceted system that the user may or may not use completely. The vendor is responsive, however, the user has to stay on top of situations to be sure they are carrying through to fix the problem. The product is easy to use. The people are polite, friendly, helpful or admit they will have to look further into the question/problem.

Cons: The colors used, yellow/golden yellow with gray writing makes it hard to read (especially when you're not 20 and have worked all day). Training was out of the question because of this. It was hands on and hit or miss to learn the program.

Recommendations to other buyers: Consider Kareo before looking at other programs and investing too much time and money in them. It does not require a big investment or a long term commitment and it is practical for a solo practice.

Pros: When you speak with a Kareo representative and let that rep know both the needs of your company and your prior skills in the area, Kareo allows you to navigate the system you believe to be most suitable to your business needs by yourself. Then it lets you take control of your own software so that you learn it well enough to manage it mostly by yourself, and if you happen to be a control freak like me, it's wonderful!

Cons: They need an office in Philadelphia.

Recommendations to other buyers: I wasn't very experienced with medical software but had experience running other types of software. I was opening a small practice but planned to add other practitioners later. My reps recommended a package that allowed me to micromanage, which has made my business a great success. I would ask your reps which package will work for your needs if you find yourself in the same situation.

Comments: The training videos, coaching sessions, and customer support have been very good.

Pros: It makes sense and you can start using it right away and learn about the other features as you go along. This is the fourth EHR I have used and the only one I would recommend.

Cons: Their messaging could be improved. I like to use my messaging as a sort of "to do" list, but I cannot mark messages as "unread" to come back to later. There are also a few issues in the prescribing that could be improved, but it is generally very good.

Pros: lots of options in reports, but not easy to figure out. colors of screens are easy on the eyes. no other good comments.

Cons: Poor training. poor customer service. errors that I do not get answers on. Does not pull in appointment code & ending date of service, using Care360 for EMR. Pulling up info - not enough info shows. No place to make recommendations (like when pulling up the list of "encounters", which insurance is it). Too many steps to find the patient balance, why is it not on the first patient screen. Also, copay, have to add an extra step in to find copay for insurance unless the patient has a card. Difficult to figure out what needs to be fixed on denials. No place to put the reason the patient is coming in that will cross over. So an "office visit" for any reason, we make a note and then have our staff print that day's appointments - or flip between systems. I have over 30 years experience, the sixth system I have been on, and I am NOT happy.

Overall: I cannot honestly say that has given up much benefit = perhaps more options for reports.

Pros: I have enjoyed how easy it is to become familiar with Kareo. The EHR is very intuitive. I can maneuver in the system easily.

Comments: Some aspects of this program are alright, others are frustrating. Creating "encounters" is so frustrating as there is a constant need to "save" your work, it is pretty much impossible to get back into an account when a co-pay has changed or the insurance has changed. A person can figure it, eventually, but it does take a lot of time (of which I am limited) and trial and error. I don't have time to be making phone calls to "Support" then to sit on hold! I am relunctant to do my billing through this program. I have to search for another program!

Pros: Easy to install.

Cons: Frustrating to use!

Pros: We really can not find any pros in this software. The support is good, but this is about all of it. We are very disappointed.

Cons: It is very hard to navigate in the software. We have the feeling that we are loosing control of payments received, payments to be posted and claims to be submitted. Our business is small and we need an easy to use medical billing software that does not require to many medical billing hours. When it was introduced to us, we felt great, but have to say that we are very disappointed. Lost a lot of revenue due to difficulty of progressing the claims.

Pros: You get a live person anytime you need assistance. A person that speaks clear English ! Their customer service is stellar!

Cons: Might be a bit overwhelming to a small practice like ours but they cater to all needs. We are small so some items we may not use but Kareo does show you everything from point a to b on how to use to the fullest!

Comments: We have been using Kareo for a year and a half. We have not had any regrets in switching to this platform. Kareo has a nice price with up to date information. We are alerted if there are issues, via email. In a fast paced world, email is the way of the world. We like the chat feature that Kareo offers for support as well.

Pros: Great price and chat feature for support.

Cons: We would like for system to be able to check eligibility without all the hiccups.

Recommendations to other buyers: You get what you pay for. Kareo is reasonable. Just take a look.

Comments: Kareo has been a great addition to my small private practice clinic. It is very user-friendly, and easy to learn. Their customer support has been spectacular, both in chat and phone support. I have not had to use them too much, but when I did it was a great experience. I have recently started using the EHR, after a few years of using their practice management system, and I am very pleased. I was able to create custom templates that fit my practice, which makes visit documentation a breeze. The EHR and Practice Management systems communicate well with one another. I do wish that there was a option for the receptionist to apply a patient copay in the check-in screen to make tracking this payment easier. Overall, I am very pleased with the Kareo products that I use, and would highly recommend this company to any healthcare practitioner.

Pros: other software I have used before don't include the marketing feature and it is easy to send newsletters to patients. I also like the billing feature

Cons: integrating with current databases and reporting features are very clunky and not easy to use at all. A lot of errors and you have to be watching to make sure it is working

Overall: good software to take medical notes, send out newsletters, billing, etc. Setup is a headache though

Migration of data from Kareo is a nightmare.

Pros: It is very simple to create files and copy notes. Aside from the retrieval of data, and the short time given to retrieve data, the system is pretty good.

Cons: If you decide to end your contract with Kareo, you will have to download your notes page by page after the initial 20 pages allowed in a pdf download. This makes it a daunting task to secure your data before you are locked out of their system. This amounts to extortion in my opinion as you are forced to pay because it is nearly impossible to retrieve your data.

Recommendations to other buyers: Scrutinize the user agreement specifically regarding retrieval of data after your contract ends. Kareo intentionally makes this process very difficult and time consuming. Other vendors such as TherapyNotes have a much more simplified system to download and migrate data. Kareo in my opinion is an unethical vendor who extorts money from users.

Pros: They have wonderful, positive people to work with. The benefits of program more than compensate for the cost, which is nominal for the type of program and service. There are no hidden fees and no add-ons. The program, with a few exceptions, is easy to navigate. Lots of support is available.

Cons: I would love for the program to be "tweaked" to improve clarity of terminology. But once understood, navigating is effortless.

Recommendations to other buyers: I looked into 5 different programs. This one was the most straightforward approach with presenting the program, services and fees. No hard sell. It's comprehensive enough to handle lots of info without having to pay for options I don't need.

Pros: detailed drop downs in clinical record for skimming & clicking for positive signs/symptoms. Could use more (-) boxes for pertinent negatives. Your interactions & medication detail is outstanding.

Cons: DAILY problems-especially with ERx. They sucked up a lot of patient time & slowed my charting/billing to a crawl. ***The deal breaker is that there is no way to periodically download clinical information so it can be stored off site in case of an electrical or ransomware disaster.

Recommendations to other buyers: Correct the above two main issues

Vendor Response

by Kareo on August 02, 2016

Hi and thanks for sharing your feedback on Kareo. Regarding your concerns about slowness with the ERx, it looks like you¿ve had a number of productive calls with our support team. Please reach out to us again if you continue to have issues ¿ we certainly want your use of e-Prescribing to be convenient for you and your patients.

Regarding periodic back-ups of your data, Kareo sends your data to our secure cloud where we perform several backups per day. We also send your data to another off site location to prevent access by anyone other than your authorized practice staff. We encrypt your stored data and monitor access 24/7. Finally, if we see any unusual activity, we are able to detect and stop it quickly. So while the overall responsibility for the protection of your data relies upon your onsite security practices, we can play a strong support role in how we handle your data in Kareo.

Again, please contact our support team if we can help you further.

Comments: In general, Kareo helps the front desk do their job efficiently and customer support is always willing to help.

Pros: I love how easy-to-read the platform is. Kareo has everything you need in a doctor's office to organize patient data.

Cons: Automatic messaging is convenient and I thank Kareo for making it easy to do so, but sometimes it may get overwhelming and may turn off a customer if done too much.
