Pros

The first thing I fell in love with about PonoRez is that it was obviously custom designed for an activity provider in Hawaii. It can pretty much do everything I've ever wanted from my reservation system. I only use part of its full functionality and am able to hide what I don't use. Its permissions feature is perfect, allowing vision to people I who should have it and only showing what's necessary to those who don't need to know. The ultimate test of the system comes when I train my new employees how to use the system. It's easy. All of my staff members embrace it and intuitively figure out what they need without much outside help. Customer support has exceeded my wildest expectations.

Cons

The user interface isn't very good but extremely practical. I understand the UI is being upgraded; fortunately the upgrade will be optional which I like because everyone who is already in their comfort zone won't have to learn a new UI.

Pros

Our business has been using PonoRez for web bookings since 2007 and for all of our reservations since 2012. We've been courted by the other vendors but the promises of greener pastures always fell through or the fee structure would cost us of tens of thousands of dollars more per month than what we currently pay. It's important to us that PonoRez is owned and operated by other activity providers here in Hawaii. I was a software developer in a previous life and more than once saw bright teams of marketers/developers swoop in on a lucrative market, thinking they know how to solve all the problems and get rich quick while doing it. Having a long-term dedicated development team who fully understand the nuances of the industry and are responsive to feedback from end-users helps me feel secure knowing that PonoRez will continue to be here for me as our business grows. PonoRez has excellent tools for managing our inventory and bookings, is well connected to other online reservation systems and marketing tools, has personalized training avaialble, includes access to an invaluable private forum where members can discuss the industry, and is clearly staffed by people who love what they're doing. Unlike our last reservation system, PonoRez continues to evolve and is a pleasure to use.

Cons

So... about that dedicated long-term team of developers. There need to be more of them. The core functionality of PonoRez is rock solid but each individual tour company does have slightly different needs. The number of improvements and fixes I've seen rolled out over the years is truly impressive but I know that I've experienced frustration waiting for requested features to be implemented and have seen other companies go through the same. To be clear about listing pace of development as a "con," I have yet to come a different company that does better. At least when PonoRez is working on something I know it'll be done eventually. With some of the other companies it seems that the sales department's job is to promise the world without actually talking to the developers. Only after you've put forth the massive effort to migrate over to their system do you find out that the reporting system that was promised or the telephone system integration or some other vital component isn't actually being developed after all. The good news is that fierce competition in the market (and probably other factors as well) have led to PonoRez hiring a new programmer so the pace has picked up lately and I look forward to all of the new projects that are in the works.

Pros

Ease of use. All info and any reports I want and need at my fingertips - wherever I am - whether I'm in my office or on vacation in a foreign country. Being cloud-based and simple to use for all my staff is a huge benefit. I particularly like that it's not very costly at all to me, and it's free for our customers too, they aren't charged a service fee to use it from our website. Also, the money goes directly into my business bank account immediately, which is a huge plus. Another plus is that we clients get to give input for improvements and new updates desired. It's truly been and continues to be a super easy software program to use that doesn't break the bank at all.

Cons

I'm trying to figure out how to respond to this question. Neither my staff nor I have any issues with this software. I guess if I had to say one thing it's that the system doesn't save credit cards with customers names so if it's a repeat customer we have to enter the cc info each time. Then again, that's a safety measure which most customers appreciate.
