Nothing beats the speed, customizability, and ease of using Slack. As a small business owner, the first thing I did was set up my email, and second was a Slack account. It's also so affordable for small businesses to use, and the freemium plan is also fantastic on its own. I recently had an issue with billing and their customer support fixed it in mere hours. Pros I've been a user since 2020 and have never found another system that has been as useful as Slack to communicate with the team, partners, and outside vendors who need instructions or communication. The UI is straightforward and intuitive. Public and private channels for specific projects/groups is a great feature and easy for end users to navigate. The huddle feature is good as well if you need to voice/video call and/or screenshare. The ease and ability to invite external people into your workspace is great as well. Admin reporting and analytics could be slightly improved though. Pros The UI is very easy to navigate and end users usually prefer Slack over many other messaging platforms. The use of public and private channels is very straightforward and easy for users to navigate. Collaboration with external individuals and/or other company workspaces is a great feature and very easy to setup. Licensing structure is pretty simple as well and you have the ability to invite external guests either to a single channel or multiple channels. Cons Message history/export for admins is only available on the enterprise or Grid subscription and even when you do get it, it comes as JSON file that you still have to parse through. Slack Connect and 3rd party app integrations are a good feature but can get annoying when the original user account is deactivated which kills any integrations or connections they originally setup. There needs to be a way to transfer that ownership/connection to another user or admin to keep those integrations as is. Admins also can't see or manage private channels which can be annoying. I haven't used the customer support and don't have much to say about File storage features. Pros Slack has a sense of irreverence to it that is helpful for remote and hybrid cultures. A "cool kid" factor that you just don't find with Teams or other options. The app is also excellent and easy to use. Cons I don't prefer using Threads. I think the use of inline replies as an option instead of breaking out a thread is helpful in larger groups or longer conversations involving multitasking. I would also say that Teams calls are more intuitive and helpful than Huddles. Even still I prefer the experience overall to that of Teams and especially Google Chat. It’s an intuitive, well-designed communication tool that makes collaboration feel fast and seamless. The ability to move easily between channels and conversations, combined with clear prioritization of unread messages, helps me stay organized even on busy days. Slack strikes a strong balance between functionality and ease of use, and features like shortcuts, message editing, and emojis not only improve efficiency but also help foster a sense of culture and connection within the workplace. Pros I love the ease of use of Slack, especially how easily I can switch between channels and conversations. I can be inundated with messages on a busy day—I love how Slack prioritizes my unread messages and pushes them to the top so I can prioritize which messages to respond to first. The ease of editing and sending a message is quite satisfying, and the shortcuts in which to navigate between channels is quite satisfying as well. The emojis add a custom flair and builds culture within my workplace. Cons On especially busy days, Slack can feel overwhelming. Despite its strong prioritization tools, the high volume of messages across multiple channels can create noise and make it harder to focus on deep work. It’s available on mobile, desktop app and in a web browser Pros I have been using Slack for years now and it has been a consistently solid messaging platform. Its ability to hook into automations has been a great ability for us. Slack is straightforward to use, great for file sharing, providing the ability for ad-hoc meetings also. Cons I have very little in terms of complaints with Slack. It does exactly what I need it to do with issue.
