Slack

## What is Slack?

Slack is where work happens for millions of people everyday. Slack transforms how work happens by bringing AI and automation to where people are already collaborating. Go from chatting with your teams to chatting with apps and data. Break down siloed data through Slack's searchable channel architecture, allowing your teams and AI to access your organization's knowledge. Teams work together in context when CRM data, project management, and people all come together to solve problems and make decisions. Teams can talk to each other and their AI agent in conversational language, allowing them to access each other and information seamlessly. Slack AI recaps channels and summarizes threads so that employees can jump into discussion quickly, whether they are new to a project or catching up after being away. Enterprise applications can easily be integrated and shared in channel and direct message, giving a snapshot of context and the opportunity to collaborate on the spot.

Reviewers also highlight private channels and mobile access for keeping teams aligned outside email.

Answer based on 10986 reviews

Pricing

### How much does it cost and what fees or limitations are included?

Slack starts with a free plan, while paid options begin at $8.75/user/month for Pro and $15/user/month for Business+. A free trial is available. Reviewers say the free tier works well for small teams, but its 10,000-message history, 10 integrations, and 1:1 calls can become limiting as teams grow.

Answer based on 2947 reviews

Getting Started and Support

### How easy is it to onboard and train a team on Slack?

Slack is quick for most team members to pick up, especially tech-savvy users and people familiar with chat apps, while nontechnical users and admins often need more time for channels, notifications, integrations, and permissions. Slack offers email/help desk, FAQ/forum, a knowledge base, and chat. Users often describe support as responsive, helpful, and effective, especially for troubleshooting and case updates. Some reviewers, however, report slower response times, difficulty reaching a real person, and a learning curve that can make self-service resources more important.

Slack uses private channels, channel privacy settings, permissions, guest accounts, multi-factor or two-factor authentication, encrypted messaging, and secure data storage to control access and protect information. Reviewers also note limits: security features can depend on paid plans, permissions may feel restrictive, admins may export or monitor conversations, and end-to-end encryption is lacking.

We've had a positive experience using Slack as a collaboration platform across multiple departments. It has improved communication, accelerated issue resolution, and provided a centralized location for project discussions and file sharing. From an IT administration perspective, deployment and user management have been straightforward, the platform has proven reliable, and the available integrations have helped streamline daily business operations. Overall, Slack has been a dependable solution that has enhanced productivity and cross-functional collaboration.

Pros

Slack has streamlined communication across our IT, operations, and business teams by replacing lengthy email chains with organized channels and direct messaging. The search functionality, file sharing, integrations, and reliable desktop and mobile applications make it easy to collaborate, troubleshoot issues, and keep projects moving efficiently.

Cons

As workspaces grow, conversations and notifications can become overwhelming without proper channel organization and notification management. Some advanced administration, security, and compliance features are also reserved for higher-tier licensing plans.

Pros

I really appreciate all of the channels that you can create with Slack so that everyone can stay informed.

Cons

My least favorite thing about Slack is all of the extra notifications that I receive. Sometimes it's too easy to send a message, so they are sent when they don't need to be.

My experience with Slack has been very positive. It has significantly improved communication, reduced email dependency, and made collaboration faster across distributed teams. The platform is intuitive, reliable and flexible enough for organizations of all sizes. Despite a few limitations in the free version, it's a dependable collaboration tool that I would confidently recommend to businesses looking for a modern workplace communication solution.

Pros

The biggest advantage is how it centralizes team communication in one place. Channels help keep discussions organized by project or department, file sharing is seamless, notifications can be customized to reduce distractions, and the powerful search feature makes it easy to retrieve older conversations. The large library of integrations also improves productivity by connecting Slack with other business applications.

Cons

The free plan has limited message history and storage, which can become restrictive for growing teams. Notifications may also feel overwhelming if they aren't configured properly, and occasional performance slowdowns can happen in workspaces with a very large number of channels and integrations.

Overall, I enjoyed its ease of use. The price was fair, and it is an ideal product for office interaction on projects and committees. I hope they can bring "read receipts" into the equation.....that would make it a 5 star platform.

Pros

It is easy to set up, easy to add different chats and subgroups, a great platform for team interaction and project management.

Cons

My last use of slack was on a project ending in May 2025. The hardest thing was not having read receipts. Not knowing which one of my team members read my messages or viewed my videos was difficult. I would have appreciated more info on what Slack members in my project group were doing....typing out responses, reading responses, ignoring messages...etc

Great! Our company has used it for years and we enjoy the fun features that it has and keeps us communicating and able to laugh through our workday.

Pros

I loved all fun it is! We have used it to create group chats for admin, and staff, and we are able to quickly video huddle for last minute meetings.

Cons

One thing is when you have invited someone to Slack and they haven't accepted the invite it is difficult to resend the invitation email to them. Their name is already recorded in the system and it keeps saying they are already in the channel. If it would be easier to find the resend invitation link that would be helpful.

Overall, Slack is an excellent communication and collaboration tool that helps teams stay organized and connected. Its channels, messaging features, and integrations make it easy to communicate efficiently and collaborate on projects. However, the large volume of messages and notifications can sometimes feel overwhelming, and important information may get buried in busy conversations. Despite these drawbacks, Slack remains one of the most effective and user-friendly workplace communication platforms available.

Pros

What I like most about Slack is how it keeps communication organized through channels, direct messages, file sharing, and integrations with other work tools. It makes collaborating with teams much faster and reduces the need for long email chains.

Cons

What I like least about Slack is that it can become overwhelming when there are too many channels, notifications, and messages. Important information can sometimes get buried, and the constant notifications can be distracting if they are not managed properly

After using it five days a week for the last three years, I can't imagine doing my job without it. It's an essential tool for our daily workflow that keeps everyone connected, though it definitely requires some personal discipline to prevent it from taking over your entire workday.

Pros

It keeps all our team communication in one place. Channels make it incredibly easy to organize projects, and the search function is a lifesaver for finding old files or links. It has basically replaced internal email for us, making daily collaboration much faster and more casual.

Cons

I miss a lot of messages because i cannot get the notifications to actually notify me in the computer. It’s also very easy to get buried in messages if you step away for a day, making catching up feel like a chore.

I like it. It’s nothing special honestly but I like it as it’s simple to use. You don’t need complicated functions for apps like this

Pros

I have been using it for years and found it very handy. I can easier communicate with colleagues and share files for work

Cons

Nothing much. I used some other tools but found that they are actually quite similar. I am okay with it as long as I can talk to colleagues

Because the company changed from teams. I guess it’s similar

Pros

I have no complaints about Slack. I think it's the best collaboration tool out there for workplaces.

Cons

I don't have any qualms with Slack! I just wish it was used in more companies instead of more popular messaging platforms.

My overall experience with Slack has been very positive. It makes team communication, file sharing, and collaboration much easier. The interface is simple, reliable, and saves time in day-to-day work.

Pros

Slack gives strong value for money because it combines chat, file sharing, and file storage in one place with an easy-to-use interface. Customer support is reliable, and the platform makes team communication fast and organized. It improves collaboration, though occasional bugs and notification issues can interrupt the experience.

Cons

Slack can become expensive as teams grow, and the free plan has file storage and message history limits. Sometimes there are minor bugs, notification delays, and too many channels can make communication cluttered.
