### "The Quiet Backbone of How Our Team Actually Works"

lack has been one of those tools that just quietly becomes essential. You don't really make a big decision to rely on it it just kind of happens because it works. The overall experience has been really positive. It sped up how we communicate, made it easier to stay on top of what's happening across the team, and honestly just made work feel a bit less formal and more human. Instead of everything being this rigid back and forth over email, conversations happen naturally and things get resolved faster. There are rough edges here and there the notifications can get out of hand and the pricing stings a little as you scale but when you zoom out, the impact it has on how a team functions together is hard to argue with. It's one of those tools where once you've used it properly, going back to anything else feels like a step backwards. For remote or hybrid teams especially, it's pretty close to irreplaceable.

Pros

What I like most about Slack is honestly just how natural it makes communication feel. It doesn't feel like a work tool it feels like texting your team. You ask something, you get an answer, you move on. No drafting a formal email, no waiting a day for a reply, just a quick back and forth that actually keeps things moving. The channels are a big part of that too. Everything has its place — there's a channel for the project, a channel for random stuff, a channel for announcements and nothing gets mixed up. You're not digging through one giant inbox trying to figure out what belongs where. And the integrations are just everywhere. Your notifications from GitHub, your alerts from whatever tool you're using, your standup bot it all just flows into Slack and suddenly you have one place where you actually know what's going on. It just makes the whole team feel closer, even when everyone's working from different places.

Cons

What I liked least is honestly the notifications. Once your team grows and you're in a bunch of channels, it becomes a lot. You're constantly getting pinged and if you're not careful it just kills your focus. You end up either checking Slack every five minutes or missing something important because you muted too much. The search is also not as smooth as it should be. Finding an old message or a file someone shared three weeks ago feels harder than it needs to be. You kind of have to remember exactly what was said to track it down, which defeats the purpose. And the free plan has that message history limit which is genuinely frustrating. You go back to find something from a few months ago and it's just gone. For small teams or startups watching their budget, that feels like a pretty big thing to lock behind a paywall. None of it is enough to walk away from it, but you do feel the friction after a while.

Overall Slack is a great messaging platform for businesses. The UI is straightforward and intuitive. Public and private channels for specific projects/groups is a great feature and easy for end users to navigate. The huddle feature is good as well if you need to voice/video call and/or screenshare. The ease and ability to invite external people into your workspace is great as well. Admin reporting and analytics could be slightly improved though.

Pros

The UI is very easy to navigate and end users usually prefer Slack over many other messaging platforms. The use of public and private channels is very straightforward and easy for users to navigate. Collaboration with external individuals and/or other company workspaces is a great feature and very easy to setup. Licensing structure is pretty simple as well and you have the ability to invite external guests either to a single channel or multiple channels.

Cons

Message history/export for admins is only available on the enterprise or Grid subscription and even when you do get it, it comes as JSON file that you still have to parse through. Slack Connect and 3rd party app integrations are a good feature but can get annoying when the original user account is deactivated which kills any integrations or connections they originally setup. There needs to be a way to transfer that ownership/connection to another user or admin to keep those integrations as is. Admins also can't see or manage private channels which can be annoying.

Being able to quickly message teammates, participate in team channels, and have dedicated groups for different functions helps speed up collaboration and decision making. It is also helpful knowing exactly where to go to ask questions or get quick answers. The notification settings can be useful when configured properly and help ensure important messages are not missed.

Cons

The user interface can be challenging to navigate, especially when trying to find past conversations, threads you have commented in, or messages saved for later. It can be difficult to track down specific chats or discussions by date. While some of this functionality may exist, it is not intuitive or easy to discover. Slack can also feel overwhelming due to the constant flow of messages. Without careful customization of channels and notifications, it is easy to become inundated with information. The ease of reaching anyone at any time can also create a sense of urgency around everything, which can make it harder to prioritize what truly needs immediate attention. After making it through the initial learning period, I have been happy using Slack. It helps me manage communication topics, stay on top of my work, and go back through chat histories to find information and files I need.

Pros

Slack is a powerful tool for both work management and communication. The supported integrations elevates visibility of tasks from different connected applications. The splitting of Direct Messages and Channels is helpful for ensuring communication reaches its target audience.

Cons

Slack has a steep learning curve compared to other platforms (less intuitive in my opinion). Based on if conversations were continued within individual threads or within the main body of a message, I could inadvertently miss replies. Also it seems that my notifications for in-thread replies are inconsistent between my computer and phone's application. I'm used to this now and just make sure to constantly monitor the Activity page.

Slack free licence is great value for money, it is extremely easy to use and with the allows for realtime communication while working remotely. It has great integrations allowing notifications in real time.

Cons

The only limitations I’ve come across is the limitations from the free licence. It has to do with how long messages are retained, but could be solved by prancing a licence if required

It has become the main way our team stays in touch and gets things done. It is easy to pick up even for people who are not very tech savvy. There are moments where it feels like too much is happening at once, but once you get used to managing your notifications it works really well day to day.

Pros: What did you like most about Slack? Slack makes team communication a lot easier. Everything is organized by channels so you always know where to find a conversation. Searching for old messages or files is quick and reliable. It also connects well with other tools we already use like Google Drive, Zoom and Samsara, which saves a lot of time switching between apps.

Cons

Notifications can get out of hand if you are in a lot of channels. It takes some time to figure out the right settings so you are not constantly interrupted. Also, when too many conversations are happening at once it can feel hard to keep up, and important messages sometimes get buried.

I use slack daily for work and it’s pretty easy to navigate although some of the hotkey functions aren’t easily reversible. That might be a me problem though.

As a free app, it's an extremely good deal especially for small workplace teams. If you are operating with a small group to get something done, it’s very easy to use

There are some features that Don’t function correctly for me like the huddle feature. I would prefer other apps for voice calls as well.

Mostly my experience has been positive. We use it as a church for communication. It allows everyone to get announcements, but also allows smaller groups to organize communication circles that not everyone needs to see.

Pros

That it is a more private way to communicate with a group of people without having to share all your personal information with everyone else in the group. You can also set up smaller groups within a larger set so that the whole organization doesn't have to receive every communication.

Cons

It isn't intuitive for me. Especially when you are trying to invite a new person to join your slack group. I had to have someone help me with this several times.

Pros

Slack is a very easy to use, has a free tier is more than enough for many organizations, and is effective for almost any organization to use.

Cons

I have found that some of the integrations with other services can be a bit fiddly, but it's unclear whether that's Slack's doing or the other services. I'm also not a fan of it hiding channels and/or DMs after a period of inactivity, but that's just a personal preference.

I like how Slack keeps everyone connected, especially in a remote setup. The instant communication, status updates, and ability to create focused channels make teamwork much smoother.

Cons

The main challenge with Slack is message overload. It’s hard to focus when there are constant pings from multiple channels. Better tools for highlighting critical messages or consolidating updates would make it more efficient for teams

Overall Slack is a great communication tool and definitely recommend for any business. Being able to download an app on your phone and have a way to communicate with everyone all over the world is a plus.

Pros

I started working for company that used Slack as the only form of communication between everyone at the company (from different parts of the world). Slack was honestly very nice to use, we all had different roles within the company and had channels created for each role. Everyone could see what we were each working on and it would keep a record of what we have completed. We had a mutual channel that we used for discussion and we also had private channels where we would discuss personal things with the supervisors. I liked that we could upload videos and pictures and react to certain discussions by emoji's. My favorite was to mark a task as completed with the green checkmark. We could always go back and look at the channels and find out if a specific task was completed. I only contacted Costumer support once and they were extremely helpful and friendly.

Cons

I don't think there is anything I don't like about Slack. We used it everyday multiple times a day and everything about It I loved.

I've been using Slack for almost 4 years now. Prior to Slack, I used other tools for team collaboration, but I found Slack much better in terms of its UI, ease of use, and integration capabilities with other internal tools, which notify me if anything changes. For example, if I raise a JIRA ticket and there's an update on it, I receive notifications in Slack as well, which is really helpful.

Cons

The recent app updates that changed the UI are something I don’t really like. I feel the earlier UI was better and cleaner. Otherwise, it works as it used to and does the job.

We connect it with our project management tools and calendar so we never miss a beat. It really brings the team together and makes remote work feel much more personal and connected.

Cons

The biggest downside is definitely the noise level if you do not manage your notifications well. It is very easy to get distracted by constant pings if you do not set boundaries or mute busy channels. The pricing can get a bit steep for larger teams on the business tiers compared to some bundled competitors. Also the free version hides message history after a certain period which can be frustrating if you need to reference something from a few months ago and have not upgraded yet.

Would definitely use it again. Only thing holding me back was I was frequently kicked off when working remotely and had to sign in multiple times.

Pros

Easy to use - Team users frequently use emojis, GIFs, and custom themes that made my workplace communication feel more engaging and less sterile than traditional tools like email. Features like Huddles allowed for instant, one-click audio/video syncs that simulate quick office chats. Threaded conversations helped keep my specific project discussions organized and tucked away from the main channel feed. Great integration for file sharing and screenshots for quick response for management. Allowed me to provide better customer support and quick answers to questions.

Cons

Being in a large team, the volume of my pings and channel alerts became overwhelming, leading to constant notifications and fragmented attention that actually decreased my deep-work productivity.

### "Good everyday tool for quick team communication"

Overall my experience has been good. It keeps communication fast and helps the team stay on track. There are small annoyances here and there, but nothing that breaks the workflow. It’s basically become part of the daily routine without thinking too much about it.

Pros

Slack makes team chats quick and easy, and it keeps everything in one place. Channels help keep work organized so things don’t get lost in long email threads. It’s simple to share files or updates without slowing anyone down

Cons

Notifications can get messy when you’re in too many channels. Search works ok but sometimes older messages are hard to find. Calls and huddles are fine, but not as strong as other meeting tools
