I love how it allows quick and safe sharing of files directly in the conversations. Cons I lack nothing negative to mention about Slack. It's a fantastic platform for internal communication. Having had the chance to use both the free version and the paid version, I think that by making the small changes regarding the access to the history of old messages it would be the definitive platform for companies and team management. On the other hand, with full access through payment, you have full control of everything and no complaints at all. Pros For me, the best thing about Slack is the possibility of highlighting important messages, being able to make notifications such as wake-up calls and being able to gather important files for a work team within the same chat as a team. In addition to this, as an employee I appreciate the possibility of rotating between the status of “available, absent and unavailable” even while inside the platform. Cons The worst of Slack or rather its areas of improvement are in the limitations of the free experience, such as the search for files and messages that have limitations to be no more than 6 months old (I think there should not be limitations on the search for messages but perhaps keep it in the archives unless they are super important files marked by the team leader as indispensable). Pros I love that it has a free version and allows video, audio, text, and pictures for communicating with my colleagues. It's a good way for our remote team to stay connected. Cons I do not like the inconsistent notifications and the way threads work. My team has missed important communications way more often than we have with other similar apps. For group chats, a great feature is to create list items which better facilitate tracking ongoing issues or project tasks. Creating a thread as part of a reply, feels sometimes a bit crowded/convoluted. Pros The messaging and instant calls functionalities, along with the integration with other software tools (Jira and Google Drive in my case) which allow receiving notifications and checking there directly Cons There is a tendency to move everything in Slack, so there are too many channels, too many notifications. To keeps channels alive, sometimes the management keeps pushing people to contribute in channels more, which creates an additional overload on top of existing meetings. I wish I could use slack for all of my communication. I love how you can react to messages, respond to threads, create as many channels as you want, save messages, huddle, etc. I couldn't even really think about any cons! Pros I love threads. The ability to respond and have a conversation on one specific message is great. You can have several conversations happening simultaneously and have it still make sense. Cons There is not a lot of options for notifications - for example, what if I need peace and quiet to complete a task and the only person I want to hear from is my supervisor.
