### "Slack the best"

September 22, 2021

5.0

Pros

I have been using slack for years now. I have seen slack adding features to make it a complete solution like non-other. Slack has become a one place solution for support as well as team management and communication like none other. I don't really see a competition for slack coming out anytime soon in the future. My favorite features of slack are as follow - U can integrate apps to enhance its existing features and add ons - U can add bots to it that integrate with other apps and frankly anything you can think of - U can build and add slack apps and bots to integrate with your product road map and set to generate weekly reports. Slack is simply the best tool there is.

Cons

The only update with which, I have seen an issue is with screen-sharing, specifically with MacBooks older than 2018 and newer than 2015. Screen sharing makes the whole system halt. which could be an os security issue or a performance issue with Slack that currently needs fixing.

### "Collaboration tool that has enabled unicorns across the globe"

October 21, 2022

5.0

Indispensable tool that has made remote work a possibility across the globe.

Pros

I LOVE the digital workspace that Slack offers. I don't know how any company would be surviving in the pre-Slack era. Slack is extremely easy to use and has instant messaging, video calling, voice calling, screen sharing, file sharing and integration features that makes it a boss of professional digital workspaces of the remote future of work.

Cons

There is absolutely nothing to not like about Slack today.

### "Thriving with Slack"

October 25, 2021

5.0

I use Slack to communicate with my colleagues and potential customers. It helps me to put share links with my colleagues and assign specific tasks to them. It enables me to have subdiscussions under the main thread. Creating subgroups for specific tasks is one thing I really appreciate in my use of Slack.

Pros

Slack is a wonderful tool for coordinating, collaborating and sharing real-time discussions and updates, especially within enterprises and non-profit organizations. It has this added advantage that different groups can be created within a channel, with their discussions void of interference from people of other groups. It is like a meeting hall with different private rooms. Slack is thus an immensely valuable and efficient instrument for discussions that are coordinated. In this light, all members follow the discussion as it occurs. Easy to use, up-to-date, and with a high quality of service, Slack is an invaluable tool for team communication and collaboration. It also has a wonderful filter where users can mention others, if there are specific tasks for them. Slack establishes a more energetic climate than numerous other business correspondence applications. Its capacity for users to sync the application to a fine degree is an enormous selling point. Slack stands tall ass one of the most amazing group messaging applications.

Cons

Slack conversations move very fast and it may be difficult to monitor what’s happening, if one is not attentive enough. With pop-up messages and emoticons, Slack can be very addictive and can be mistaken for any other conventional social media platform. This can constitute a great source of distraction in a strictly business-oriented environment. For you to “thrive with Slack”, you must use it for the intended purpose, given that it lends itself to a variety of uses.

### "A great team communication tool"

May 22, 2019

5.0

Slack is honestly the best tool for team collaboration. You can communicate via voice or text with your coworker or friends from the browser, desktop or phone and it's reliable a lot. The messages are there and so are the files shared. Also same with the chat rooms.

Pros

I like Slack. I have been using it for aprox 4 years now. It's simple and it get's the job done. You can add extensions like JIRA, Google Drive, DropBox and so on. Basically slack you can have different rooms for different teams (you can manage the members per room or invite) and you can also have private chat conversations with other people. It's basically a chat server for your company or organization. The mobile app is awesome, the desktop app is fine and you can also use Slack on the browser. The free tier is good if you have a small team, now if you message a lot there's like a 10,000 message limit for the history so if you want to get the best deal, you'll need to pay. Same for the file sharing, there's a limit but it works super good.

Cons

Honestly Slack is great, but with the time, it's become stagnant. A lot of other platforms are providing features that are more robust and free. For instance, Discord, even if it is for gaming, it does everything Slack does and better. Even the desktop sharing is better. I wish Slack just kind of moved out of the stagnant position they are right now and innovate a bit more or refresh their app, but hopefully they don't break it, because it works fine as well.

Alternatives considered

[Microsoft Teams](https://www.capterra.com/p/168668/Microsoft-Teams/)

Reason for choosing Slack

I initially started with it, before Discord even got better, the thing is, we are so integrated with Slack at the moment, we wish Discord could just add extensions but they have bots. so they're almost there.

### "Robust and Efficient Communication on All Team Levels"

October 19, 2019

5.0

Slack has been an entertaining way to keep my teams moving and communicating so much more than we would through email or text. The platform makes it easy to record and share ideas as they happen, and collaborate on the good ones to bring helpful and interesting ideas to fruition. We experience much less distraction as we all want to cover multiple topics, sometimes all at once. We are not limited to listening through long meetings where we discuss topics only relevant to 30% of the team - only team members directly related to a project have to engage in discussions, and the rest can listen in only if they are interested or find value. Stronger and more organized than emails or text threads, Slack has entirely changed the way we convey thoughts and communicate remotely (or from within the same room!) in my organization.

Pros

What I am most enthusiastic about in my use of this software, is how neatly organized every topic of discussion can be. Within an organization, there can be a LOT of topics, and one simple chatroom (text messages, other chat platforms) will absolutely not cut it. With Slack, each team can have their own space, each project can have its own space, and there can even be direct messages between team members. Replies can happen in the entire thread, or in direct response to a particular message - including emoji-only responses, for those so inclined! The added benefit of this discussion organization, means there's even a dedicated space for members to shoot the breeze and talk about lunch in #imhungry, without losing pace or focus of the financial evaluation happening in #budgetcrisis. Each chatroom, or "channel", can be as private or accessible as the individuals need. Members can join or leave as needed, or lurk in other's channels to keep track of other projects. An individual can even be a part of multiple Slack communities for different businesses or organizations - I personally have one for my Church, for my family business, as well as gaming and personal pursuits. Everything stays separate and organized, thanks to Slack.

Cons

This particularly applies to individuals who are using Slack for multiple organizations; the mobile app can be VERY confusing when you're not 100% familiar with Slack. Slack is already a bit of a learning curve, due to its robust functionality; that in itself is not a flaw, as I see it. It is efficiently designed. It's just a lot to take in day 1 and may not be intuitive to everyone, and the mobile app compounds the confusion! I will note that the app has MUCH improved since I jumped in two or three years ago. But even now, I find myself having to pause and double-check I'm navigating channels correctly. The desktop version is much more understandable!

Alternatives considered

[Telegram](https://www.capterra.com/p/180347/Telegram/)[Google Meet](https://www.capterra.com/p/176572/Google-Hangouts/)

Reason for choosing Slack

While Discord was a close second to Slack, we generally found Slack to be the most robust and versatile platform out of all of our choices. We believed it would be best at allowing us to exist in a large variety of chat rooms without losing track of what each thread was for - Hangouts and Telegram would be a nightmare for how many threads we'd like to have going. Those options would also force us to either have people unable to drop in on conversations, or, have EVERYONE added to every single thread. Slack also has excellent notification settings that make it easy to mute certain threads, certain conversation types, or just mute all of Slack on a schedule. Hangouts and Telegram felt like another text app like the one native to your phone; Slack is a system. Discord is also an extremely helpful, robust, and versatile system; and I can't really say there were small details that pushed us over the edge to Slack versus Discord. Largely, we chose Slack as it carries a more professional tone, and would more likely seem businesslike/professional if we needed to bring in additional team members or temporary collaborators.

### "Slack's Highlights"

October 8, 2022

4.0

Pros

The most used and helpful feature for me personally is multiple screen sharing. Many people can share their screen together we really don't have to wait for one person to stop screen sharing so that the other person can share the screen. It helps alot when multiple people work on a single project/task remotely.

Cons

Well, it is not very smooth. It does not notify me when the other person sees my chat. I do not get to know if the other person has read/seen my message. There is number restriction while creating a slack group. So we have to create a slack channel then. Not everyone has the access to archive the channel.

### "Discuss with Colleagues and Share Instantly....!!!"

October 11, 2021

5.0

I am mainly using it for real time updates from my team and colleagues. All over we here give updates about client meetings and share the progress in the projects. Also, we share various links for video calls and documents to connect with all colleagues at once. Overall ,it is a masterpiece.

Pros

The most important features are that we can create discussion groups as per our requirement on the basis of teams and projects. Also, we can assign different projects and can share each and every activity within the feed. Also, can share documents and links in it. It has very easy and simple UI. Also, it is very friendly in use. It make our work very convenient and easy at the workplace. We feel very connected and updated with this tool.

Cons

Only one thing I think is missing in slack in threading is the voice notes. We are not able to send voice notes within the feed. Also, a beginner need some days to understand it fully but it's not difficult. the integration with our organization was very easy and impactful and we didn't faced any issue with it.

### "Recent Game Changing Innovations "

November 12, 2022

5.0

Pros

I've been a Slack user since the beginning, and now there are many Slack competitors on the scene. Over the years we've tried tools like Teams, as we are O365 users, however, we keep being driven back to Slack as it just works. Slack has everything you could need for a team collaboration and communication platform, and with its continued innovation, it's truly becoming our digital HQ.The Salesforce acquisition of Slack has proved to be a good thing, and I'm excited to see the innovation that will continue to come from this relationship.Slack went through a period of time where innovation seemed to slow and we were burdened by buggy features like Slack calling. In the past year their pace of innovation has stepped up, and we've benefited the most from Slack Huddles, which are reliable and feel more personalized than Zoom. Their roadmap also looks exciting with features like Canvas coming down the pipeline, a much-needed addition to Slack.

Cons

I don't like how it's difficult to create long-form posts/messages that include multiple images. The images/files are all attached at the bottom of your post, and if you want to follow a structure like text, image, text images, you have to create multiple back-to-back posts. Hopefully the Slack Canvas feature will solve this pain point.

### "Slack is the answer to Email's poor usability"

December 1, 2020

5.0

In one word, Slack is excellent. It makes work fun, lively, dynamic, transparent and much more real-time. Even though our team is fully remote, we can feel connected because of the communications and collaborations tools that Slack provides.

Pros

Our team adopted Slack in preparation of becoming a fully virtual, distributed company, and also as an alternative to email, which creates blind spots of knowledge within the organization. Our work has been completely transformed by adopting Slack! First, we had 100% adoption of the platform as our primary internal communications medium. Second, the transparency of information and project cycles have allowed us to be far more efficient and effective for our clients (response times, clarity of recommendations, deliverables), and finally, it has eliminated about 50% - 75% of our daily emails. A massive win!

Cons

While Slack has several tools for tagging information and prioritizing information, it provides limited tools for prioritization. While it's primarily a communications/collaborations platform and not a project management tool, adding ability to better prioritize certain tasks would help make this tool even more effective for a professional services company.

### "Team Communication Simplified"

September 28, 2020

5.0

We are using Slack as our primary communications as in-team and external members as well. Slack makes communications more professional than other casual messaging tools. There is a respect for other team members' private life as setting notifications off the work hours. We can keep all our commuınication in Slack and able to search and find our communications later.

Pros

Team Communication is easy and respectful to other team members. Integrations with almost all other Saas providers allows users to do almost all actions within the Slack. Advanced Search History is a great feature for team communication Channels are keeping communication easier within the team or with external members.

Cons

The in-app call and video call options are still terrible in September 2020. Exporting communication only available to admin. This should be done for everybody at least for private communications. File search is still not good.

### "Best collaboration platform for developers"

August 16, 2022

5.0

It helps me a lot of get in touch and collaborate with developers across different regions in open source communities. We re using it as primary communication medium, we create seperate channel for every initiatives, group chats, integrate with observability solutions, connect with other product teams,... It saves lot of time and communication more convenient.

Pros

It is awesome collaboration platform for developers. Each and every product have their own slack workspace and anyone can join and get help from the community. it is not limited to opensouece but also used by many product companies as primary messenger. It offers lot of features like audio calling, video calling, huddle, third party plugin integration, file sharing, inter organization communication and multi device support.

Cons

In fact, there is nothing I dislike about Slack. Only annoying thing is, if someone mentions @here it sends notification to everyone nomatter if its admins or users. They could add a feature, to block @here notification on selective channels.

### "The next generation chat for work"

September 13, 2021

5.0

It's an amazing tool to have in your company. It can be adapted to any business or group purpose (study, personal) and add value to everyone. The capacity of bringing all your important notifications to one place is huge time-saving and productive.

Pros

It provides a smooth experience no matter how full is of contacts/channels or anything. It has a broad variety of integrations that adds amazing value to your daily work experience, Jira, Calendars, Github, Teams, you name it. You don't need to keep tracking all these apps that you use, you can sit and relax and let slack handle all of those notifications in a single place. The huddle was a fantastic feature to have if you are working remotely with your team, no need for other tools to have an open voice channel. The workspace separation is also a great thing to have, let you keep things separated (company workspace with study workspace, etc).

Cons

Sometimes it does not refresh the chats when in the background, which is not a common error, but for a chat tool, can be critical when happens. And the worst part is that you are not aware that is not refreshing until you get several messages at once several minutes later. At least put a label to see when was the last time the app search for a message, or if there is any timeout when entering a chat.

It’s a great application and I would highly recommend it for work and education.

It is easy on the eyes especially when I am working late. 3. Collaboration is made super easy on the application. It is a great communication tool. 4. ### "Fantastic Teamwork Software"

August 5, 2021

5.0

My overall experience with Slack has been fantastic from the first day I started using it. I have experienced nothing but efficient communication with team members over my desktop and smartphone. Additionally, I have experience a much smoother and simpler communication experience by using Slack when compared to our previous communication method, which was just over group text, which some might consider to be a bit unprofessional, as well. Overall, nothing but positive things to report!

Pros

What I like most about this software is its ability to make teamwork, both on location and remote, very efficient and easy to handle. By using Slack, the whole team is able to communicate with one another, share files, tag team members' names in conversations for targeted communication, and much more. I also very much like the fact that the software is simple to learn how to use and that they offer both desktop apps and smartphone apps, both of which offer neat notifications whenever someone on your team has something important to say to you directly or to the team in general.

Cons

There is really not much to dislike about this software, since it really does all that it is intended to do, and more. Other than the fact that an internet connection is required for this software to work, there is not much else that I can point out as detrimental to the efficient usage of such a wonderful teamwork tool. I would definitely recommend Slack to anyone who is willing to give it a try.

### "Better than the others"

September 20, 2021

4.0

It works. It helps better with notification and content management. It is wonderful that you can work on your own add-on and make integrations for alerts from production systems, other companies, enormous archive even with the free version.

Pros

We are easily reachable. Slack works everywhere and usually doesn't miss a second to notify. Easy contact management, continuous collaboration with other companies, integration with Google applications and even Zabbix.

Cons

The Windows and Debian clients can certainly improve on sync. Sometimes Slack freaks out in the following manner: I start the PC and at some point later, I decide to open Slack. Opening starts, the window of it appears blank, then hides itself in the taskbar and 5 minutes after that reappears on a random place in the monitors (I have 3) and overall starts in a questionable fashion. Sometimes it can't keep up with my keyboard and mixes letters with one another.

### "Easy to use, decent functionality- NOT MEANT FOR COMPANY SENSITIVE CONVERSATIONS OR DATA"

June 3, 2021

3.0

Overall decent experience until we discovered that our data is not able to be secured from prior or dismissed employees. If we would have known in the beginning, we would have either made a more permanent admin, or chosen another program. However, we sometimes are not aware of a problem until we experience it and unfortunately it could be detrimental to a company's growth, development and data protections. For this reason, we can only recommend slack for personal communications, and not for any business needs.

Pros

Easy to set up and use, offers intergrations with other programs, mobile friendly.

Cons

NOTICE: ADMIN MUST BE A PERMANENT ROLE IN THE COMPANY. If members leave, slack offers no internal security or assurances to protecting your business conversations or personal information. Our 'admin' is no longer with our company, nor is she local our country, and with no way to contact her- all of our proceeding dismissed members have 100% access to our portal and information. Slack is also not able to deactivate an account so even if we choose to start a new workspace with an updated admin, our previous information is still compromised. IF WE COULD LEAVE LESS THAN A ONE STAR REVIEW FOR THIS, WE WOULD.

### "Multifaceted Messaging"

August 11, 2022

5.0

Some employees are not in the facility for most or all of the day. Slack helps me monitor everyone and is a way for us talk throughout the day. Employees working together or in rotation use slack to stay in touch too. In the morning we get everyone in a quick video conference to plan for the day and update. It's worked well.

Pros

I can create message channels and control or monitor who is in each, settings can be changed to public or private. Individuals can message privately too. I like how the channels are displayed I can find any of them quickly. Video calls can be created without leaving the messages screen. I can usually see and hear everyone clearly. Links open in the app and when I send photos and videos all load quickly.

Cons

All of the messages aren't saved and I wasn't able to find a way to change the setting. I have had to save folders full of screenshots incase important messages get deleted. More value for money and less taken out of the lower price tiers would make Slack better too.

In the environment Educational has been of great benefit to me, so I recommend it as a means of communication.

Cons

\- It has some compatibility problems with some devices. - Its web version is a bit slow. - By having many functionalities, the period of time of learning the platform is long.

### "If you are still using email to communicate at work, I feel bad for you. "

June 26, 2018

4.0

Pros

Slack has totally innovated the way our team communicates and our productivity would not be the same without it. Slack allows you to efficiently communicate with your team in a fun and enjoyable way. Unlike email, messages and files are easily searchable in one search box and slack also collects all of the attachments in your workspace together so they can be easily found. Slack threads make it easy to organize discussions around certain topics and if the topic is important you can create a channel from the thread itself. You can also make these channels private if not everyone in the workspace should see the conversation. Slack has incorporated really useful apps. I have taken advantage of the app to send polls to my team, and creating asana tasks right from a message. I also get a message from slack every day listing the events I have on my calendar for the day, and set up a way for students workers to clock-in right from slack. Recently slack has also integrated with Qualtrics, and you can have Qualtrics send slack message triggers which is awesome! The slack app for ios is great. You can quickly answer co-workers on the go, and you can set your notifications to go on do not disturb during a certain time period each day if you do not want to receive push notifications out of work hours.

Cons

There really aren't many cons to slack although the app on the phone can be a bit buggy at times, but no real complaints and they seem to address any issues with a timely update. Although slack has a multitude of apps, I do wish there were some apps they had. For instance, I would like the ability to create a google calendar event from a message or send a google calendar invite through slack. Although, they seem to be constantly innovating the platform, so hopefully this will be possible in the future.

### "Robust tool that's so much more than instant messaging"

August 26, 2021

5.0

The fact that my team is 100% remote and has been for 3+ years but can still be very efficient is in large part due to Slack. We're still able to communicate and make decisions even with a dispersed team. It's such an integral part of our team at this point, I can't imagine doing without it.

Pros

I've used Slack for several years now and at this point, can't remember how I communicated with team members before. We are a completely remote team and Slack allows us to quickly reach out to colleagues to discuss issue, socialize, share files, and much more. I think a lot people on my team enjoy the emoji options and the ability to group message and create channels allow for a lot of flexibility for multi-member communication. Slack offers a wide variety of features, like snoozing, scheduling, and setting up notifications, and they continue to add to their feature set regularly.

Cons

Managing permissions and settings around channels can be confusing. I've created channels only to realize that I needed to set it up differently and then not have the permissions to make the needed change (or that the change isn't an option and you'll just have to delete the channel and start all over). Also, if you are a member of multiple workspaces, it can be easy to miss a notification or message.

### "Una plataforma funcional"

June 3, 2023

4.0

### "Slack is great for teamwork and collaboration. "

September 16, 2021

5.0

Pros

I like that we can set up workspaces that can be used for either community building, company management, or just casual chatting. My favourite feature is being able to create different channels so that we can organize conversation, teams, and different topics. I also like the search functionality. I can look up a previous message that was sent pretty easily, and find out where it is and the conversation around that specific point.

Cons

I don't really enjoy the new feature where you can invite someone from a different workspace to your chat. Maybe its because I haven't found a use for it, but generally when we are working on teams with separate organizations, we just bring them in as members of a specific channel we have created.

### "The best in managing meetings"

August 13, 2022

5.0

Excellent experience managing many projects at once, easy and practical conversations, it is not free, but it shortens time and effort, when you own it you can dispense with many programs

Pros

I like a lot of services in Slack, for example: - Ease of use - The actual messaging app is practical and fast - a suitable price - Ideal in managing meetings, excellent sound and picture quality, easy data sharing

Cons

Slack is an excellent program that it is difficult to find a weak point, but it is good to work more on speeding up the upload of large data, the free version is limited and this is also normal
