It's an essential tool, professional, better than teams and discord, it have mobile support and add ons with capability integrate with most software developments tools like github and jira

### "Slack is my favorite business communication platform"

September 13, 2021

5.0

My overall experience with Slack is awesome it does what i expect. I can easily communicate and manage my teams and share files and ideas real time with slack. I can make audio & video calls with anyone or a group of people which is very useful for me to work from anywhere. Overall i can say that slack is one of the best tool for business communication and it makes things so easy and simple. It also lets me to share files and folders from my pc or from my cloud file managers. Its the best for project management and online collaboration. I love to use Slack.

Pros

I use slack for daily basis for my work. It has been an amazing experience since when i started using. Slack has some cool features which makes it even more productive and functional and way more faster for completing my task, for example i can manage and create channels inside any workspace and it can be customized as per the topic so it doesn't get messed up. Audio and video calling feature is very handy and useful when i need to communicate with my team mates directly and also i can share files from my cloud file managers such as Google drive or OneDrive it saves a lot of time and effort. Very minimal & user friendly I love Slack.

Cons

I use Slack mostly to communicate with my team mates as i have to work from my home mostly at the time. And I never encountered any major issue with it like crash or any bug but I think the web version and the mobile version needs some optimization because when i am in a video call in my mobile it gets bit laggy and sometime gets freeze. Also i need to schedule a lots of meetings & if there was any option to schedule a meeting it would be more awesome for me. Rather than that Slack is the best for what it does !

### "Slack Review"

January 28, 2021

5.0

Slack is a brilliant tool for quick communication and easy transferring of files and information. It is very simple in appearance and highly customisable to your own personal preferences. It's a great tool and I would highly recommend it as an intra-office communication tool.

Pros

\- It's very easy to use. - It's easy to share files with people quickly and easily. - It's easy to find people and search for people. - It's very customisable with colours and layout. - It has a wide range of accessibility features for things such as colour blindness and other conditions that require accessibility consideration. - It's easy to create/join channels and make the ability to sort channels in groups is extremely useful. - You can turn on/off audio alerts and customise your personal settings quite extensively.

Cons

\- The resolution when moving from a small screen to a large one, or vice versa, can sometimes affect the visual quality of the application. - Sometimes, new message notifications do not go away, despite the message being read. - The more people that are in a Slack channel, if someone posts a GIF using /giphy, it completely slows down performance and makes it near unusable. - On occasion, when importing links from Google Drive, it gives the warning that 'Slack cannot import that file type' but people who the link is shared with can see the file just fine.

### "Must have for any small business"

August 7, 2022

5.0

Very easy to implement and use within a business. We have been using it for over 5 years now and have no plans to use anything else.

Pros

The features of slack are easy to use and implement into your business. We primarily use it to communicate between employees. It’s quicker than an email and allows you to make announcements than can be read at the employee’s leisure or when he or she arrives to work. Files can be easily uploaded and accessed as well as commented on. Overall, slack is everything you need to keep people on track and in the know.

Cons

It’s easy in a larger business to lose track of files or information within a thread. You then have to search for the information by scrolling or typing in keywords. It would be nice to be able to star or bookmark messages and files to then easily access at any future time.

### "ICoom in Slack"

May 13, 2022

5.0

I love slack, but I think its value is for fast internal communication. Not a lot for video or document sharing.

Pros

Is the best communication tool. Easy to use, you can have a lot of channels and bots and it seems like the info won't get lost because it is all organized.

Cons

The free version is great and I wouldn't see why to pay for the use, since you probably have free options in case you really must (in your package with the email provider or tools like Telegram, discord, etc)

Alternatives considered

[Discord](https://www.capterra.com/p/240238/Discord/)[Microsoft Teams](https://www.capterra.com/p/168668/Microsoft-Teams/)

Reason for choosing Slack

Best UI, fast enough and really easy to use, despite having a very fair free version

### "Slack is very useful... Specially if you pay!"

October 25, 2018

4.0

I think Slack is very good for team communication, though not "the only answer". I say this because, for example, it isn't the most appropriate tool to handle team wide calls. It's worth to pay for it if you need to access your history files and conversations.

Pros

I really like the way Slack enables team communication. I have used Slack in both paid/free versions. I used the free version (limited storage for conversations and files) in a 40 people co-located team. It was very good for short interactions and immediate file sharing. We had a link with Jira, so we were always seeing issues being updated and such. Previously, we had Trello and it work very good too. I currently use the paid version in a remote team and it's our day to day communication means. We have linked GitHub to have a "center monitor" for created issues, pull requests, etc. Also, all of the alerts, regarding website functionality/life are connected in real-time to Slack, so we never miss an alert. It's very useful to have the paid version as it holds the whole conversation and file history. It's very easy to use the search function to find my own files or even things that were discussed in conversations.

Cons

After a while (or update, I'm not sure) using the free version, the storage of conversations and/or files didn't lasted much. So, if you had a conversation last week, forget about going back to that. Also, in the free version it feels very much as if your files and conversations are held as hostages. I think there are still some integrations that needed to be improved, for example, when I accidentally accepted to show previews of GitHub issues I couldn't find a way to turn it off (or an easy way, at least.)

### "Makes my job easier!"

October 5, 2021

4.0

Keeps the entire team organized, accountable, and up to date.

Pros

Slack is a integral part of my day-to-day performance. As a team that works remote, we rely on the tool for almost all communication. Without it, our team wouldn’t be able to as easily and quickly collaborate.

Cons

When members respond using Threads, it seems like that the notifications for those are not as obvious as normal messages. Feels like that communication could easily be missed.

### "An efficient and reliable inter-office communication tool!"

April 9, 2019

5.0

Slack has been instrumental in connecting everybody in our organization. I'm not just saying that. Various departments within our company have become competitive and often complete projects way before deadlines. That's because we've applied and integrated Slack into our organization in such a way that we use internal performance appraisals, awards, etc to achieve this. Also, we are a SaaS company that believes in a positive work atmosphere and Slack helps us achieve just that.

Pros

1) User Interface: Slack is quite user-friendly but requires a little bit of an initial learning curve in order to get that hang of things (considering it's a bit different from your average personal communication tools). In no time, you'll be able to locate new channels, switch between them and message individuals directly. 2) Making Work Fun: As its name suggests, "Slack" allows users to ease professional tension and stress by providing them with a wide range of "Fun Gifs", emojis, etc. Users can even make use of different "reactions" (Just like you have on most Social Media Platforms). This is quite useful for us because we can vote on posts using various reactions. Our in-house designers often compete with each other on various projects and the rest of us vote for them. Therefore; Slack = Increased Productivity. Of course, you can have your own methods of applying this feature. 3) Suitability: Slack is best suited for small or medium sized businesses. They have a "free forever" plan, a "Standard" plan and a "Plus" plan. The main differences between these subscription models are chat-log backup capacities, the number of third-party app integrations you can use (Unlimited for all paid plans), Customer Service response timings, file storage per user and few other differences. 4) Notifications: Slack makes it possible for its users to have many options of getting notified. The best feature, in my opinion, is where someone can "@" you in a message or a post.

Cons

1) File Preview: It would be nice if you can preview a document without having to download it first.

### "Mostly reponses what a company needs but some improvement need in product"

December 22, 2020

5.0

Overall it is fine. I enjoy the product. I would be happier with the features I mentioned above.

Pros

Useful, have a lot of features, making video calls, file sharing, adding bots etc. Product supported in variety of platforms, which is nice! Macos, Windows, Linux, IOS, Android, and Web.

Cons

First of all, the product uses a lot of computer resources, which makes computer really slow. Especially having GIF emoji's in chat, even if the product in the background, uses a lot of CPU resource. Second problem is about the video chatting. I started my job with an old Macbook, which is fine for most of the time. However, if I would want to make a video call/meeting with someone over slack, it is almost impossible to interact with my computer. I do remember myself asking the person that I'm talking, lets switch to Google Meet and continue from there, since I can't show what I need to show on my screen. Third one also related to video chatting, drawing to someone else's screen is really good feature, I like it, but if the person you are drawing in their screen Zoomed in their Slack Messages, lines are not properly drawen in their screen. Slack dev team should calibrate that. About getting calls, it rings all devices that you have logged in at the same time, which is annoying. there should be a feature, "Last/Mainly used device should ring first, if there is no answer, other devices can ring after 10 seconds or something." Because sometimes I even answer my call from my computer, but my personal computer still ringing, and the person who is calling me, also annoyed by that loud ring tone coming from my other computer.

### "Mostly perfect "

March 1, 2021

5.0

Slack has been fantastic for keeping our remote workforce connected, fostering a sense of community within our organization, and freeing up our inbox for more important items. There have been a few quirks over the years, but the UI changes have been mostly positive. It seems like the platform is constantly improving with features that are actually useful instead of features for the sake of adding new features.

Pros

Slack Connect is great for facilitating efficient communication with partner businesses, vendors, and clients. Slack was already a vital part of our business and the ability to connect with other organizations on Slack cuts down on email significantly.

Cons

My only complaint with Slack at the moment is that Slack Connect conversations are placed at the top of the conversation list, even above starred conversations. Internal communication is more important to me and not having an option to place conversations with outside organizations below the ones I've determined are most important is an annoyance.

We made the switch from chatting through Hangouts to Slack because our office went from being all in the same building to scattered across the country. We needed a more robust platform to maintain the level of communication required to have a functioning business.

### "Best for Communication, Team Management and Collaboration."

October 13, 2022

5.0

It is very good to have such tools which helps to track people, share thoughts and get quick responses globally.

Pros

This is very good tool if we are working in a large number of groups and need to share files, check sentiments of people by creating polls, getting real time feedback and managing internal or external teams. Video quality is very good and having great options too, provides interactive functions and able to collaborate teams.

Cons

It is the tool which lacks in UI in comparison to other tools available in market like Teams, simplicity can make this tool best so need to enhance the UI and make it as simple as possible.

### "Slack delivers in our fast paced environment"

October 12, 2022

4.0

Overall, we LOVE using Slack to collaborate on both work & play around here. We have been able to increase team unity in a way I didn't think we could in this new remote world.

Pros

The feature we love most is the communication/chat. Channel creation allows for people to easily join or leave (or be added by a leader) a channel while it is relevant to their role.

Cons

We've seen some bloat in free range channel creation, but that is an us issue - not a slack issue.

### "Slack is an exceptional communications tool for teams of all sizes. I highly recommend it."

April 16, 2018

5.0

Pros

Slack was built with a very powerful software architecture in mind, yet so many individuals can use it because of its friendly user-interface. The design is very fun, playful and gives you the powerful functionality that you never thought existed. For how many use cases there are in Slack, they make the user experience very streamlined and easy to pick up. In addition, you can sync a lot of the other programs that you use with their integration features. My favorite is the ability to keep up with internal conversations based on the topic. I personally dislike being in group chats where the conversation isn't relevant to me. It can be of annoyance receiving notifications that don't pertain to your role and you have to check and delete at a later time. With Slack, their channels can be very specific and allow you to pick and choose which ones you want to join.

Cons

The biggest takeaway is if it's not used right within an organization, it can be a productivity killer. Slack connects to both your mobile device and your laptop so if you do not manage you notifications right, it can be virtually impossible to escape the conversations that are going on. Saying this, our team implements certain hours of the day where ALL phone and laptop notifications are off. Slack makes it possible to do this by changing your modes of availability and/or snoozing the notifcations for certain periods of time. As long as you limit the amount of channels to the ones that require you rattention and don't spend your whole day falling in the trap of checking your notifications all the time, it can be an awesome tool for communication.

Slack was a God sent. We had issues with Microsoft Teams freezing laptops and affecting our day to day work as their app was full of bugs. With slack - there is no issues.

Pros

Cons

So far nothing 😅 it is so much better than competition

### "A great collaboration tool"

February 17, 2021

5.0

I first started with Slack about 3 years ago, it's a great business communication platform. I have not tried any other platform that is similar to it and thus far I like it.

Pros

Slack is a great collaboration tool, across various channels. It allows seamless and inclusive communication for all team members. I like how we can have channels for different functions and projects, this makes sending and receiving updates very easy. It's also nice how there are desktop and web versions as well as a mobile app. The mobile app is quite is convenient, when I am not in the office I can easily send and receive updates with no worries. Slack offers a free workspace, which is packed with functionality and tools, which is amazing especially for start-ups. Setting up a workspace and adding team members is not hard at all. I specifically like how quick it is to add new team members to the workspace by sending an invite link.

Cons

I like Slack's user interface but it takes some getting used to. When I first started with it I found that keeping in mind what each channel was for was very helpful. Later on, I realized that adding channel descriptions is very helpful for new users. Slack shows only a few channels in the channels section with the rest being hidden probably to avoid the workspace getting clattered, which is ok but you can miss messages from other channels. To be able to see hidden channels there is an "Add channels" option which is for both creating new channels and browsing existing channels. I have found this to be unclear at times.

### "Slack is NOT for Slackers!"

October 9, 2021

5.0

One of the main problems it has solved is when you have an eclectic group that needs to know something out of the ordinary, Slack is the perfect method to communicate that in. It brings more bonding to our group as fun messages are sent using slack that ordinarily wouldn't be sent be it wouldn't be worth an email and it would be too cumbersome in a group text.

Pros

Slack makes work communication seamless. What's great is that all communications are stored in a thread with the person or group. Far superior to email for sure since it is stored in by individual, select individuals, small groups, and /or the entire organization. We have lots of channels (think groups) and some are just plain fun! Instead of receiving an email or text, you get a Slack. What can be greater than that?!

Cons

Sometimes on the browser version I get confused of the message replies. I wish that I could see everyone in our organization instead of the most recent conversations.

It has largely replaced email. That's good for time-sensitive messages, bad for trying to communicate about substantive topics that build over time.

Pros

It basically makes quick messaging easy. Feature creep is making it less useful every day.

Cons

Every new feature drags down the overall usability of the product.

### "Slack: Communicate with Flair"

July 30, 2019

4.0

Overall, the platform has been the best out of several team communication applications. This had a much easier sense of user navigability and user experience with its sleek, modern look. It also had the capability of customizing your profile to an extent, with being able to add pictures, a bio, as well as static and dynamic emojis. It also had a unique gif feature that allowed for the posting of gifs but being able to randomize them. So essentially, typing in a random word would net several options of gifs, some of them quite unexpected and hilarious. This provided a good amount of entertainment for the younger crowds in the office.

Pros

The app and website had a very modern feel to it and relatively easy to navigate across. There was a section that provided what slack calls channels that usually was filled with members of certain teams or company-wide channels where messaging would go out to all these larger groups. Below that, there was a section that was dedicated toward smaller group messaging between coworkers or between individuals. The program would also keep your most highly used personal channels between groups and individuals pinned for easy access and these channels would contain the entire history of the conversations so it was very easy to find a particular message from someone if you were looking for specific information.

Cons

The notifications would be intrusive at times, so if you didn't turn off your notifications there would be large messages coming across your screen with a resounding ding that would announce the message. It would also preview a bit of the message being sent, so if you were having a particularly private conversation, there was the possibility of that popping up across your screen for others to see. It would be easy to forget to turn this feature if you weren't constantly running into meetings, but it seemed like this was an issue in terms of keeping things private.

### "A great tool to collaborate with far away international experts in a comfortable and powerful way"

July 25, 2018

5.0

Thanks to this software, I keep connection with a network of international experts from everywhere on a passionate subject that we continue to build together, including rich conversations , sharing documents and setup workshops all around the world.

Pros

The user interface is really elegant and powerful. I particularly appreciate the 3 pane display that allows me to see which channel have updates so I can easily switch and the right pane to see content of a thread or search results without loosing my context. I also really appreciate the possibility to add our own set of icons. In our case its particularly useful since our group discuss about methods that have their own icons. The direct message module is very useful and clearly identified as separate elements so there are no risks to mix it with other conversations. Sharing documents is quite easy and the preview helps a lot when you are searching for a specific document previously uploaded. The search functionality works well and search results are clearly displayed. Last but not least, the windows application is very useful and I appreciate to have a separate application instead of a browser tab dedicate to it.

Cons

Switching from a workspace to another one is always confusing for me. Never sure about how to use it correctly without loosing an update. Seems to be a recent change, but search results are now displayed in a popup window, then you select one result and you are redirected to the thread and loose the list of results. It's quite disturbing for me and I still have to learn how to use it in a comfortable manner. I'm also puzzled by the 'All thread' view where I'm always lost. You can scroll up and down and you never know exactly where you are. Maybe it's useful for other people but for me the best views are the Channels.

### "Slack review"

September 28, 2022

5.0

In general I have been very happy with it, and it is probably the software I use the most in my work. It is easy to use and very user-friendly.

Pros

It is our primary communication tool as we are an international company with personnel around the world. It is easy to create groups, star important channels, pin important messages, connect it to our drive assets and it is especially useful for the many integrations with other software we use as PandaDoc, Salesforce, getguru and Filestage to mention a few. Another great, but maybe minor thing is the fact that you can connect it to your google calendar so your colleagues can see when you are busy in meetings. It is also nice that you can both huddle (audio call) and video call someone, from your laptop or your phone. Another feature that is very useful is that you can easily ping a whole channel, a group of people or just one person using the @ command.

Cons

Some of the software integrations could be improved, it is sometimes tricky with more advanced software to run smoothly, this might be on the other developer's side though. We encountered a problem a year back, when some of the base settings were changed and we could not use the app for a couple of hours, that kind of issues makes us very vulnerable as slack is our primary communication source.

### "Easy software for managing various team related activities, free version comes with limited feature"

November 6, 2020

4.0

Very easy to use app and quite a life saver when it comes to various team internal activities. However, the features included in the free version are quite limited and the price for the full version can easily be considered too much especially for startups, smaller companies or very big teams. All in all, I believe that Slack is a good and really useful app but it´s value, what you get for the money you spend could still be improved.

Pros

Possibility to have 1:1 discussions with colleagues. Valuable when dealing with a task together. Group Collaboration - The capability to bring an undertaking together and share with a team. Gathering Chat - The ability to have one zone/space where the group teams up, shares thoughts, and cooperates to convey issues. Bot Integration - The ability to incorporate different apparatuses and bots that can make the day simpler. Capacity to integrate web conferencing devices such as Zoom, Webex, Teams etc. Able to make plans for the day, track time, and so on Oversee a Team - Great approach to deal with a group that is working distantly in remotely geographic areas. I am especially fond of how easy and respectful the communication with other team members is. Practically all different Saas suppliers are integrated which permits the user to do practically all activities inside the Slack. The Advanced Search History is another extraordinary component for group correspondence Channels are keeping correspondence simpler inside the team or with non-team members.

Cons

Some of the time the ´´Search in History´´ function does not work as it is supposed to. However, this is the case with most visiting instruments that occasionally you have to look up one small step at a time to discover the set of experiences you are searching for. Video and voice meeting actually need to improve. anticipating utilizing Slack just as opposed to having different programming introduced The by far greatest limitation of the app is that the free version has a constraint of messages that can be saved, which incorporates the documents that are sent. Slack's paid arrangement is extravagant for new companies and organizations having low income/large groups.

### "Easiest way to communicate between teams"

September 17, 2021

5.0

I have been using Slack for almost 7 years now and I am a fan. It makes me manage my work so easy.

Pros

The ease of reaching out to someone. It lets you know when someone has responded to your thread, even pings you about the mentions and reactions. Additionally. you could save drafts and send them later. You could star the channels that you are particularly interested in and they will move to the top of your feed.

Cons

In bigger channels, often people make the mistake of using @here or @channel which ends up pinging all of the people in the channel when it was absolutely not required. I feel there should be a way to avoid getting notification on the public channels for such @ broadcast messages. It ends up wasting my time and distracting me.
