Communicating with the entire team and with different organisations via Slack

Pros

\- The intuitive and ease of use of the app - Integration with different orgs - Integration with various apps - Free plan

Cons

Well, the fact that the user is limited when using the free plan, but it’s not a con, but common sense and normality.

### "IM as it should be"

February 7, 2018

4.0

Very easy way to talk to someone when working from home or dealing with remote offices. Also a great way to get groups to collaborate.

Pros

Slack is very easy to use. You can setup new channels for groups, make them private or public very quickly and intuitively. Old channels can be archived for reference later. You can pin items in your channel for FAQ. You can create sub threads within a thread so as to avoid everyone getting notifications. There are also a number of plugins and integrations that mean you can get even more value out of the tool. It's available on desktop and mobile so you can easily stay connected.

Cons

Some of the settings are not as intuitive to find. My main issue is less with the tool itself but more with how it is used. If email is considered a way of throwing something over the fence, IM is destroying the fence. It is frequently used as a way of saying that a message was delivered but if you're subscribed to multiple channels or busy channels, it is quite easy to miss something. Like I said, it is more about how the tool is used rather than the tool itself.

### "Manage workflow efficiently with Slack."

June 7, 2019

5.0

Pros

The best side of Slack absolutely is channel feature which provides flexibility and a free environment for managers. It is like a big empty yard where you can create your own rooms which it impossible or limited in other project management platforms. At work, we use Slack almost everywhere from file sharing to project management. Thanks to Slack we are no more sending emails to each other. Another useful feature of Slack is searchability. When I need a file that I forgot where I have shared, I just type the file name or some content inside the document, slack immediately shows the most relevant results for me.

Cons

While using Slack in my android device I couldn’t find read receipts feature. Maybe this feature doesn’t exist at all, but I would like if this feature was available. Because sometimes I get new tasks from managers while I am busy with another task. And if accidentally I touch notification panel message windows open and managers see that I have read his/her task. Turning on and off read receipts feature would help us in such situations.

### "Much More then a Chatting Tool"

February 24, 2024

3.0

Pros

Slack is more then a way to communicate internally. I love that can integrate with so many other apps which allows me to be alerted when a new action or event takes place.

Cons

There are a lot of features we do not leverage but Slack does not communicate those to their users well, so I’m not sure what I am missing out on and how we can expand our ROI of the product. It is getting a bit too expensive for what we have been using it for (primarily internal communication) and I wish I knew how to get more use out of it.

### "The Best Corporate Communications App out there!"

September 11, 2018

5.0

Slack is a huge upgrade from the old communication method we were using over Facebook groups and chats. Slack has created a far more organized and professional means of discussion and file sharing with direct messages and group chats between our employees. This upgrade has definitely improved our productivity and kept employees away from distractions on Facebook while working.

Pros

Revolutionized how The Managers and owners of our business communicated with each other. Slack provided us with an efficient means of communication that properly notifies the right people when their attention is needed. It helped us organize our scheduling changes in a much faster way, and all of this for FREE! We can definitely see ourselves upgrading to the paid version as we grow our business too.

Cons

The FREE version doesn't allow for all messages to be saved, meaning we've lost several files and images that we wish we could go back in time and search. We also needed a better way to organize files uploaded on slack since it requires a lot of scrolling when they get buried within messages after several days of communication between employees on a channel.

### "The de-facto standard for team communication"

November 30, 2020

5.0

When we rolled out Slack, the aim was to improve comms across a mid-sized company working from different offices. It can be said without the shadow of a doubt that it was a success, compared to how things were working with the previous tools.

Pros

Slack is the de-facto standard for team communication, thanks to its ease of use and amazing features list. There are many alternatives out there, but they are just following and copying with results that are not yet comparable.

Cons

If you really had to find an issue, it would be around the desktop application. It can be buggy sometimes, and definitely a bit resource intensive. Also, search functions can be improved.

### "Slack - a platform where team communicate and collaborate effectively "

April 30, 2020

5.0

I like the product quite well in terms of messaging, chatting, team management, project management, and management of other tasks. I found it very intuitive and easy to use platform.

Pros

Slack is one of the greatest tools for communication and collaboration at the team level or organization level. Slack can be used for conducting the meeting, video, messaging, chats, and a lot of other things. Slack allows you to create public and private channels and provide the utmost level of security for your messages. The slack user interface is quite simple and the overall application is easy to use. Slack can be integrated easily with a lot of third-party applications such as Office 365. Both the computer application and mobile app provide awesome features during your chat such as the option to select from several emojis and Gifs which makes communication more effective.

Cons

When you have more number of simultaneous channels, organization and alert mechanism becomes a disturbance for you, so it requires some level of organizing mechanism at the user end. Video calling quality could be improved.

### "Oh hey Slack"

May 2, 2019

4.0

The benefits of slack that i think are great is that you can have multiple slack account on one screen so you can switch between different organizations without having to log off. Rooms are easy to create. Cons I would have to say are that the desktop interface is the size of the entire page. I wish it was a small little chat client like pidgin. And when hashtagging something that has nothing to do with slack slack will try to put in a commend (ie #fun and slack will try #delete or something to that effect).

Pros

I think it's a nice interface. Very colorful, easy to create rooms, the UI is mostly easy to navigate. I like the fact that you can have multiple slacks on one account. Makes switching between them easy.

Cons

A few things I dislike: when you create a private room to discuss an issue, but realize you need to invite someone else, you have to create a new room and so the entire convo from the other room isn't in the new room. I also dislike when you put a hashtag and something with it in the conversation box and the hashtag turns into some slack related command even though that had nothing to do with you were entering. I wish it slack app on desktop was smaller like other chat clients I have used. It takes up basically the entire screen of my laptop window and i have to try to resize it. It also takes a LONG time to reconnect if you have to go to a meeting, bring your laptop and reopen it in another room. I know it is going from one wifi section to another but it shouldn't take as long as it does. No other programs have that issue.

### "Best tool ever for team which want to grow "

February 28, 2022

5.0

It is the best collaborative software I used so far. It has been almost 4 years but I love it. It's easy to use and very friendly.

Pros

Collaboration and discussion is made easy. So ease getting in touch with colleagues. It can replace many things: reminders, notifications, follow-up etc. Everything can be added and have it's own channel.

Cons

Notifications, but it can be turned off. If not used properly it can affect productivity.

### "Slack is the best for the group video chat."

August 10, 2019

5.0

Slack is the best software just because of it communication feature. In the business meeting mostly people can only choose this software to communicate with our team members and colleagues. Moreover, it really helped me in sharing the large amount of files and documents with one another one by one.

Pros

The best thing about this software is that we can easily share all of our important files and data with our team members because through this software it is so easy to access and manage such as the only view and edit etc. Here it provide the complete security, easy access and multiply ways of sharing. Conversation is so fast in a group video chat. Slack is so super easy to use and we can easily attend the business meeting through the great communication.

Cons

There is one thing that I really don't like about this software is that we can easily chat in a group messaging because it provide the limited option to chat with the limited messages. This ii a communication platform that allow to send and share files as compared to it's competitors. It is not so great for sharing the large amount of files in a instant way.

### "Great communication platform for corporate or teams across the globe"

October 9, 2018

5.0

Pros

The best platform for communicating and exchanging messages one-on-one or by forming a group channel. This platform makes use of an AI bot called SlackBot that performs most of the tasks with simple instructions or commands given. It is easy to set reminder or notifications about an event or remind someone about a task, etc. The overall chatting experience and the user interface is marvelous. As compared to the other chatting software platforms used like Skype for business, etc. I prefer this any day. It is very simple to add copy delete download files/chats, etc. and this application is also available on mobile devices too. The choice of emoji and emoticons with option to add custom smileys makes it a really flexible feature. The video call or voice call options may not be that great but do the necessary job.

Cons

When we add members to a group or channel, it is not possible to remove the person even though you may be the admin. The person needs to himself/herself leave the group. This is one of the biggest flaws I have noticed till date.

### "The best thing to happen to our org's communication"

February 5, 2021

5.0

We collaborate in a way that allows more people to "overhear" which leads to more learning. I can message team members with a lower barrier to entry. I can get work done faster, with fewer meetings and next to no formal emails. Because I can edit my message after it is sent, I don't have to go back and forth repeating myself, I can make small updates to improve my communication.

Pros

It's ideal for nonprofits because they offer it for free! Slack is our work culture while we work remotely during the pandemic - when Slack has a short outage, it's like a snow day - we don't know how to do our jobs that's how heavily we benefit from and rely on it!

Cons

I wish it were easier to block myself from using it during my time off (nights, weekends, paid time off) without deleting it from my phone. There's no easy on-off switch. I wish scheduling a message was a built-in feature like it is with lots of email software, instead you need to use an extra app to make this happen.

### "Great All-In-One Tool for Workplace Communication"

November 11, 2020

5.0

Pros

The overall chat functionality is super simple and responsive: from the ability to add custom emojis to seamlessly hosting calls, Slack has an amazing amount of functionality helps it prevail during a time when remote work is becoming the standard. The vast number of Slack apps allows users to make the most out of their workspace environment and integrate external services (e.g. Google Calendar, Gmail, GitHub) directly into a variety of channels to improve visibility. The ability to create your own Slackbots and slash commands makes customization limitless within organizations as well. When not in front the computer, the Slack mobile app works extremely well and complements the web app since much of the functionality carries over. Slack acts as the de facto communication tool for a lot of other organizations as well and being able to shift to them seamlessly via the desktop and mobile app is a huge plus.

Cons

None so far. Slack allows users to customize their workspace with little to no friction, so we've been able to make the most of it.

### "A fun way to cut down on email--that might make your life more difficult"

January 26, 2019

5.0

As I used Slack for my project, I found it was a helpful way to broadcast announcements, ideas, and call for input from my 15-person team. One difficulty I found, though, was getting buy-in from my team. A Slack notification just doesn't have the urgency of an email, and if you try to circumvent this by pushing Slack notifications to your email inbox, you've just doubled your tasks. So before you buy, consider team buy-in, make a strategy for being out of the office, and reserve it for issues that won't be better resolved by sending an email--or even picking up the phone.

Pros

Here's the best thing about Slack: it's fun. Questions and ideas that would have felt stale in business-email form can be brought to life in Slack (see: GIFS! Emojis!). And that you can connect with colleagues in real-time can seriously cut down on the amount of emails that arrive in your inbox. Issues can be dealt with promptly and swiftly. Slack is especially useful if you need a large number of people to sign off on an idea or project.

Cons

But while Slack can cut down on email, it might make stepping out of the loop more overwhelming. If you have to leave the office, it's fairly easy to put up an out-of-office notice and deal with email systematically when you return. If you're like me and prefer getting to inbox zero, you treat unread messages and anything in your inbox as a task to be completed. But imagine leaving the office for a week and coming back to hundreds upon hundreds of Slack messages. How could you possibly get caught up?

### "Great chat program, ok collaborative platform"

December 7, 2018

3.0

I loved the fact that Slack eliminated the need for multiple SEO platforms, which made it a de facto one stop shop for all SEO needs. And as a communication tool among team members, especially remote team members, it was great. Overall, I'd say this is a great addition to any team if the members of the team buy-in to using it.

Pros

One of the key aspects I love about Slack is that it incorporates the old AOL Instant Messenger group chat room format. This make it so much easier to chat with a team simultaneously. It also makes it a lot easier than most programs to pivot between multiple conversations at once. Additionally, uploading and sharing all types of files is easy, and the user interface was relatively simple to navigate through for all team members.

Cons

The problem we had with Slack was buy-in. Many members of our team did not see the point in using Slack because of other programs like Saleforce, Gmail chat, etc. In fact, this is my major drawback: whether it's communication, organizing meetings, sharing files or generally just as a collaboration tool, Slack doesn't standout as the best tool for any one thing.

### "Slack Review As a User."

August 21, 2022

5.0

It is a user-friendly platform for an organization that helps us to keep up the good work and complete your projects. But if there would be some more AI efficiency features it would be the best platform to use. especially for those who use it on daily basis.

Pros

\- Its interface is very user-friendly you don't take much time to learn it. - Easy to share important documents with the team. - You can keep an update from your team on the ongoing project.

Cons

\- There are no priority features from which you can add the most important task to your team. - It takes fidelity to search particular messages you need to write exact words if you want to search for something.

### "Slack"

October 30, 2023

5.0

Slack is an app for team collaboration and group chat that tries to make business communication easier. Open dialogues, private groups, direct messaging, message archiving, deep contextual search, and file sharing are among the features.

Pros

The company allows you to establish "channels." Slack channels containing all of the colleagues working on a certain client project, for instance, can be created for each client. It facilitates real-time sharing and collaboration with ease. This works well when you have a deadline and need an answer right away.

Cons

Minimum file storage is available. It can be inconvenient to send files via Slack rather than email because Slack gradually removes files and you only receive as much storage as your business chooses to pay for.

### "Best software for collaborating and sharing within a group setting"

August 29, 2021

4.0

Using slack has been best since it has not only enabled us share ideas and thoughts using features of calling, messaging and video calling but also practically work internally on projects without the whole world knowing.

Pros

First I like it since it helps us manage our project on time and use the correct budget. This helps us know if we have delayed in our project. Another thing is its ease of use, one is able to learn using slack in less time compared to other related alternatives since it's components are well defined and understandable. Lastly adding to it's easy messaging, a group can divide a project into small portions and work on it in groups thereby keeping track of the project easily.

Cons

For me I don't have much negative about this software only on the search component, if you did have long conversations with a person on slack before it is hard for someone to use that search feature for words to search for past chats since it brings recent or current conversations.

Alternatives considered

[Zoom Workplace](https://www.capterra.com/p/144037/Zoom-Video-Conferencing/)[Microsoft Teams](https://www.capterra.com/p/168668/Microsoft-Teams/)

Reason for choosing Slack

Reason why I choose slack is because it has more integrations and it's serviceability is excellent.
