Slack

## What is Slack?

Slack is where work happens for millions of people everyday. Slack transforms how work happens by bringing AI and automation to where people are already collaborating. Go from chatting with your teams to chatting with apps and data. Break down siloed data through Slack's searchable channel architecture, allowing your teams and AI to access your organization's knowledge. Teams work together in context when CRM data, project management, and people all come together to solve problems and make decisions. Teams can talk to each other and their AI agent in conversational language, allowing them to access each other and information seamlessly. Slack AI recaps channels and summarizes threads so that employees can jump into discussion quickly, whether they are new to a project or catching up after being away. Enterprise applications can easily be integrated and shared in channel and direct message, giving a snapshot of context and the opportunity to collaborate on the spot.

Pros

Slack is great as team communication, and as a meeting tool. It was easy to set up and quickly utilized among our team. Files, both documents and picture was easily shared without any hiccup.

Cons

Occasional missed notification caused us several miscommunication among the team despite setting it on for notification. The side bar on the app or the desktop platform became cumbersome.

My overall experience remains very good for using it for meetings, daily schedules and many other related things.

Pros

Slack offers good value for money by providing a wide range of communication and collaboration features in one platform. It is easy to use, with a simple interface that helps teams communicate efficiently and stay organized. The software also allows convenient file sharing and supports quick audio and video meetings. Slack provides reliable customer support and regularly addresses bugs and technical issues to improve the user experience.

Cons

Slack become expensive for larger teams, especially when advanced features are required. Too many channels and notifications can sometimes make communication overwhelming and distracting. Users also experience occasional bugs, connectivity issues, or difficulties finding older messages and files.

I use Slack as a professional live chat tools. Not only using it with the colleagues, but also to communicate with external partners.

Pros

Its ease of use and flexibility. The way you can open a new chat and a channel to share with others is the best

Cons

Just as a personal point of view, the UI is not as modern as other tools are made. Some changes could help improve.

Slack has been part of the corporate toolkits of the companies I've worked for since 2017 (across three different companies, from Silicon Valley to digital services work in the government contracting industry). I've used it while working 100% in-office at a globally distributed company; when a company was transitioning to remote during the pandemic's height; and now, at a company that has been remote-first since its inception in 2016. After I used it for the first time at one job, I started asking during interviews whether they used Slack, because I knew it'd be a difference-maker in my onboarding and overall day-to-day expereince. Also, since I started using it in 2017, I've been impressed with the feature rollouts over the years. It hasn't stalled, never gets stale, and keeps getting better. I've never been responsible for comparing Slack to other tools or reviewing corporate pricing, so I don't know the overall value for the money in dollars and cents, but as far as employee engagement goes, companies should seriously consider adopting it.

Pros

Since 2020, I've worked remotely as a business developer across two digital services companies. Slack has huge gains for my formal work (e.g., channel-specific topics by deals and projects; a customizable canvas for each channel to link helpful resources; the Huddle feature for impromptu calls; seamless integration with mobile; tons of personalization features to make it right for my workday - hello Focus Mode -; integrations, like with Google Suite that make is easy to share files...the list goes on) And it's also great for employee engagement, especially in a remote setting. With the right people contributing to an engaging company culture, Slack keeps the workday interactive and, dare I say, fun. We have channels to discuss hobbies and special interests, like our corporate Fantasy Football league, book clubs, and channels for working parents to commiserate, encourage one another, and remind us all when it's time to sign the kids up for summer camp (the right answer is February, every year). This is where the magic happens. As an elder millennial, I just love it. I'm efficient with work, and it brings back the best bits of the AIM I grew up on...but for work. It's also super reliable. Over the years and across countries, I've used Slack, I don't think I've ever experienced an outage.

Cons

Honestly, not much. The only time I get frustrated with it is when I need to invite partners (from external companies) into our workspace for targeted deal collaboration. When those folks come from organizations stuck with Teams, it's not easy to get them to adopt it for a limited time, even though it's easy enough to add them to the dedicated Slack workspace.

Overall I think it is the best chat app for internal communication, and the opportunity to connect with several other apps is just great to have all the necessary always at hand.

Pros

Quite easy to use, I prefer it compared to Teams for both visual and chat features. Also file sharing is better and files are easier to open (the in-app preview works really well). Never had major bugs and you can create as many channels as you want. You can connect several other apps like Drive, Calendar, Confluence and Jira which helps a lot with having everything in one environment.

Cons

Not the best one for calls. Should be improved to be more similar to Skype. Also not possible to record a meeting. Compared to skype/teams if you want to use it to talk with people from outside the company it is an harder process than just adding them via email address.

Slack is one of the simplest collaboration platforms available, and it integrates with so many of our tools.

Cons

I don’t have any complaints about Slack. It consistently runs without any issues, offers plenty of useful features for video calls, chat, and sharing.

Slack has made my cooperation with other developers much more comfortable. This product allows solving issues quickly, sharing useful information and updates without constant meetings and emails.

Pros

I like the ability to have different channels for different projects or technical issues. It is convenient to share screenshots, logs, and any documents, and there is always a good search function when I need to find some old solution

Cons

In busy channels it may be difficult to communicate due to the excessive noise, especially during active release periods. In addition, too many notifications may also distract from work.

It has a feature for muting notifications. It is great, also easy to get into multiple threads for different type of chats.

Pros

I am doing some side chatting with collaborator using this. The app is fast, feels there is enough features on the dashboard.

Cons

The app looks kind of old specially the logo. Also. the UI for video call can be made more user friendly.
