Pros

While i used Slack only on a very basic level, I found it to be a top notch app with respect to team collaboration and basic chats. The Canvases were a nice feature as it allowed for brainstorming.

Cons

The only critique I have (admittedly I only used slack briefly so this could have been updated by now) is that as i had numerous DMs and messages, older conversations tended to get backlogged and were a bit difficult to pull up

Pros

I love centralized chats and external chat capabilities. I like that I am able to keep up with team members more quickly than email.

Cons

The text functions are pretty basic— for example, as I am typing I am not able to press enter to create a new paragraph. This doesn’t align with standard text practices.

I've used Slack for 10+ years with multiple companies, and it's one of those software solutions that stands the test of time. I was first introduced in a corporate setting but now I use it for our own small business and even personal use for running our household. The framework has stayed the same over all these years, allowing for ease of use and it is easy adapted by new team members.

Pros

It's an excellent tool for our small team to communicate in one place so nothing gets missed. We have the free plan and it works well for our needs. We have multiple channels so it keeps everything stream-lined and organized with different aspects of our business.

Cons

I don't like the 10 file maximum for uploading pictures. When we share assets for social media, there is a gap there.

Overall very good piece of software, it’s seamless as if you could be sat together in person. Its features set is unrivaled and I don’t think you could ask for more for what it does.

Pros

I absolutely love slack, for day to day collaboration there’s nothing that comes close. From sending small and large files and general chat between teams and colleagues, its ease of use, it has everything you would need to keep your team flowing as best it can possibly be. Its pricing structure is pretty straight forward and is excellent value for money if you want to get things done properly. If there is any bugs or issues the customer support team gets straight into it and give you notifications along the way.

Cons

I personally think they need to work on huddles and screen sharing as the competition has nailed this more (zoom/teams)

It has become the main way our team stays in touch and gets things done. It is easy to pick up even for people who are not very tech savvy. There are moments where it feels like too much is happening at once, but once you get used to managing your notifications it works really well day to day.

Pros

Pros: What did you like most about Slack? Slack makes team communication a lot easier. Everything is organized by channels so you always know where to find a conversation. Searching for old messages or files is quick and reliable. It also connects well with other tools we already use like Google Drive, Zoom and Samsara, which saves a lot of time switching between apps.

Notifications can get out of hand if you are in a lot of channels. It takes some time to figure out the right settings so you are not constantly interrupted. Also, when too many conversations are happening at once it can feel hard to keep up, and important messages sometimes get buried.

After making it through the initial learning period, I have been happy using Slack. It helps me manage communication topics, stay on top of my work, and go back through chat histories to find information and files I need.

Pros

Slack is a powerful tool for both work management and communication. The supported integrations elevates visibility of tasks from different connected applications. The splitting of Direct Messages and Channels is helpful for ensuring communication reaches its target audience.

Cons

Slack has a steep learning curve compared to other platforms (less intuitive in my opinion). Based on if conversations were continued within individual threads or within the main body of a message, I could inadvertently miss replies. Also it seems that my notifications for in-thread replies are inconsistent between my computer and phone's application. I'm used to this now and just make sure to constantly monitor the Activity page.

Our team uses Slack daily, and it has drastically improved our collaboration efficiency by cutting down internal email threads by more than half. It essentially acts as our digital office space, keeping everyone connected regardless of whether they are working remotely or in the office. Aside from the occasional notification fatigue and the premium price tag, it remains an indispensable tool for our day-to-day operations, quick huddles, and project tracking.

Pros

The real-time chat interface is incredibly intuitive, making day-to-day team communication seamless. I love how easy it is to organize conversations into dedicated channels for specific projects or departments, which completely prevents our email inboxes from getting overloaded. The file sharing mechanism is very smooth—we can drop images and documents straight into a chat, and the search functionality is powerful enough to find old files or specific conversations from months ago using simple keywords. The direct integration with other tools like Google Drive and calendar apps also helps keep our workflow centralized in one hub.

Cons

While it excels at quick communication, managing notifications can quickly become overwhelming, especially if you are part of multiple large channels. It takes a bit of time to configure the alert settings properly so you aren't constantly distracted by non-urgent messages. Additionally, sending very large files can sometimes hit strict size limitations, forcing us to rely on external cloud storage links instead of direct uploads. The pricing structure can also feel quite steep for smaller teams as you scale up and need historical message retention beyond the basic tiers.

Slack is a great free way to communicate with your team members on your computer. I do believe they have a paid version that allows you to go back and look at messages from an unlimited time frame. The free version does limit how far back you can look on conversations.

Pros

Slack is an awesome app if you are looking for a way to quickly message with your internal team. This is a great alternative to keep on your computers so you do not have team members texting on their phone.

Cons

I am not sure if it is just the way I have it set up but I do not receive notifications if someone messages me and the app is not open.

We've used Slack for nearly two years across a hybrid team, and it's become the backbone of how we communicate. Customer support is decent — mostly self-serve through their help center, which is thorough. The value for money is reasonable at the Pro level, though I do think the free tier cutbacks pushed smaller teams into paying sooner than felt fair. Overall, it's the right tool for the job — just set your notification boundaries early and enforce some channel etiquette as a team, and it's hard to beat.

Pros

Slack genuinely replaced email for our day-to-day internal communication and I can't imagine going back. The channel structure keeps conversations organized by project, team, or topic, and being able to thread replies means a busy channel doesn't turn into chaos. The search is surprisingly powerful — I've pulled up messages and files from two years ago in seconds. Integrations are a massive plus; we've connected it with Google Drive, Zoom, and a few project tools, so a lot of our workflow just lives inside Slack now. Huddles (the quick audio call feature) are underrated — it's way faster than scheduling a meeting for a five-minute question. Ease of use is genuinely one of its strongest points; new team members are comfortable within a day.

Cons

Notifications can become overwhelming fast if you don't take time to configure them properly, and most people don't — which leads to either constant pinging or people muting everything and missing important messages. The free plan is quite restrictive now with the 90-day message history limit, which makes it hard for smaller teams to commit without paying. The pricing per seat adds up quickly for growing teams. Occasionally there are minor bugs — slow load times or messages showing as unread when they aren't — nothing critical, but noticeable. It can also quietly become a productivity killer if your team culture leans into being always-on.

Slack has been a long-used chat system that I have used across multiple workplaces. Having used earlier chat software, or moving to workplaces where another option was used, I've made sure the teams I've joined implement it ASAP.

Pros

Slack is our primary communication tool amongst our team as we're a fully remote business, operating in different cities around the country. It's great for 1:1 messaging, but also channel-based chats, and group messaging - very quick, easy to use, and reliable.

Cons

It's probably more a broader issue with how businesses operate in the modern day, but having slack means people will message you a lot more than they would usually have picked up the phone to call you or walk over (if in an office) because it's so easy.
