### "The best for the Java Backend developer"

March 13, 2019

5.0

I am using IDEA every day at my work and for my hobby projects and it provides you more than you need.

Pros

I really like everything about Intellij IDEA. It has great smart hints, plugins and themes. You can create your own themes and shortcuts which will improve your development. It has great integration with popular build automation products such as maven.

Cons

By its nature, it uses too much RAM. Sometimes it's hint feature confuses and does not show correctly but it happens very rarely.

### "Do Not Search Any More, This is the One IDE"

May 2, 2020

5.0

You can find it very userfriendly with its features and functions in it. The customization is also great which helps you focus what you’re doing most of the time. I think JetBrains is a powerful company and puts its knowledge from feedbacks that they gain from users, which makes them successful.

Pros

I use Intellij IDEA for test automation with JAVA. I used both platforms on MAC and Windows machine and by far more away comparing the other IDEs this is a tool help you while you’re typing your code. If you learn shortcuts it even more easy to use.

Cons

It is a known issue that most of the IDEs haven' detailed error messages, maybe they can improve this, sometimes the errors are more frustrating.

### "I love Intellij - I spend my coding life in it."

March 15, 2018

5.0

Intellij is a fantastic IDE and flexible enough to work in almost any language - Love it!

Pros

Intellij is a fantastic piece of software, integrated with the latest coding technologies, and with an extensive library or free plugins that make it possible to do almost anything you want in an IDE.

Cons

Every once in a while it will get a weird bug that requires a bit of a lengthy troubleshooting process - but, this happens rarely and support usually helps sort it within 24 to 48 hours.

### "The reference IDE"

February 10, 2021

5.0

This is my daily IDE and I am pleased to pay the yearly licence considering all the features it offers.

Pros

The IDE is compatible on multiple OS's, is packed with a lot of features and it grows at every update with new supported programming tools. It also includes local file history which saved me a lot of time over the years.

Cons

Since it is running on Java, it sometimes lack of performance. Also, dragging file in and out the IDE is sometime not doing what users would be expecting.

### "One of the best IDEs out there"

December 6, 2018

5.0

Pros

It is a fully contained IDE for pretty much any development project out there. It has plugins to expand on itself, and plenty of options to set it out how you like it - even things like a Vi style editor for the source code itself. It works easily out of the box, and is easy to learn and adapt to. It has a much better layout and ease of use than other common IDEs such as Ecipse and NetBeans.

Cons

For personal use, it can be an expensive option. It does however speed up development with the many plugins for it, if the cost can be bared, it is worth it for developers working within a business professionally.

### "The best Java IDE"

July 7, 2022

5.0

IntelliJ IDEA is an amazing solution for those developing in Java. It makes it much easier to develop and create applications.

Pros

Overall, IntelliJ makes developing in Java extremely easy and convenient. With an amazing debugger and intelli-sense, it becomes very easy to catch and fix bugs that crop up during development.

Cons

While the software is tailored towards Java, I wish that it could handle other languages too.

### "Magic wand for code development and deployment"

February 21, 2023

5.0

Working on idea is a fun ride. Writing code and testing every single logic is easy with quick compile and run IDE. Used for testing and deployment as well

Pros

Best application to write, debug, review, deploy and version control business code. Easy to use and quick to learn. Effective debugging and auto suggestion features to make development easy. Version control in place to save every piece of code written

Cons

The search feature could be enhanced to help find the parts of code. Navigation when clicking on a piece of control doesn't always take to the required place.

### "Full-fledged IDE with powerful refactoring and great user interface"

March 12, 2018

5.0

Pros

IntelliJ is, in my opinion, the best IDE available for Java and Scala development. I was particularly pleased with the refactoring and code analysis features, which truly differentiates it from a simple text editor. It compares very favorably to Eclipse, in particular from the UX perspective. JetBrains offers a great Education offer, where any student enrolled in a listed university can use their software for free. This allowed me to get familiar with their Pro platform, even on a small budget. The many platform plugins supported by IntelliJ makes it the tool of choice for a wide range of languages, including Scala. Finally, several language-specific editors offered by JetBrains (such as CLion) are built upon the same platform. It makes it very easy to go from one to the other, and continue working in a familiar environment. It is even possible to port some of the preferences, keyboard bindings, etc.

Cons

As a full-fledged IDE, IntelliJ is much slower than a simpler editor such as Sublime Text. CPU usage and battery impact make it a poor choice when working on the go. (This isn't be a problem on a Desktop computer).

### "Rock-Solid IDE!"

February 25, 2019

5.0

I have been using Intellij over a year now and it eases the process of development. It has a great number of plugins as well as it looks very pretty (Dark Theme FTW) and modern. The debugging mode saved a lot of time when checking through my code and it's so easy to use and install :)

Pros

I love the how dynamic the software is when it comes to development, which fastens the code with the autocompletion supporting a lot of programming languages like Java, Lua, JS, Kotlin..., it even handles application runs with Docker, SBT, and task-runners like ANT, Maven, Gradle, etc..

Cons

I wish that the Community edition has more features enabled, like the database features.

### "Once you use IntelliJ, you don't want to go back"

April 27, 2022

5.0

Pros

What I loved the most is when IntelliJ suggested smart edits that resulted in more performant code. In the few instances where I used the suggestion, I did not realize that I was writing code that would result in performance decline. IntelliJ suggested how the code I wrote could be much more performant and it worked correctly!

Cons

I have not experienced any difficulties with IntelliJ, the only thing that restrains me from using it fully is that some team members are really reluctant to switch to the tool due to some bad experiences from the past. Since VS Code is fully free, it tends to be the first alternative tool to use instead.

### "Best IDE for a fast paced development process"

October 29, 2018

The best IDE that i have come across in my life, really makes the work easy for the developers hence creating a fast turn around time ultimately leading to higher profits. Superb support team with fast response times.

Pros

State of the art code suggestion - enables programmers to code fast. Shortcuts - including multi line edit Supports all major languages Used by major software companies in their development process

Cons

Enterprise edition charges money while most of the software IDE's are free.

### "Great Features of Intellij IDEA"

December 20, 2018

5.0

My overall experience with the Intelij IDEA is simply great. The package management of Intelij IDEA is really good and easy to use. And Intelij IDEA allows me to work with multiple languages.

Pros

I have been using Intelij IDEA from around 2016. I have switched to Intelij IDEA from another IDE. Actually Intelij IDEA has many features than that. It's advanced editor feature gives users a tool for smooth coding for work with JAVA, CSS and HTML.

Cons

IntelliJ Idea has ultimate version. You have to pay for the ultimate version. Ultimate version has more features than the community version. Community version not support for the server like JBOSS.

### "My favorite IDE"

September 6, 2019

5.0

Working with it every working day, for different projects (JavaScript, NodeJS, Angular, Java, PHP). Using all tools of IDE every day (Database, Git/SVN, SSH remote access, remote debug).

Pros

All needed features in one place (such as Database, SSH access, VCS and more). Smart coding, smart debug, fast enough application, stable.

Cons

Need more speed, e.g. often context menu is very slow to open on some folders. Not so modern icons of IDE and design things.

### "Best Development software out there"

December 25, 2022

5.0

As large numbers of you know, Intellej Believed is an exceptionally convenient improvement climate, with both a free variant containing all that you want and a paid form pointed toward creating in J2EE. Many individuals can't/don't have any desire to bear the cost of the paid rendition, so they either utilize the free one, or privateer it, or utilize other IDEs. This post likewise shows the dependability of companions from JetBrains to understudies. I'll recount how I figured out how to get the Outrageous variant of this superb IDE.

Pros

I like the fact that it is very effective.

Cons

Using this development environment requires certain science

### "BS\_Intellijidea"

I migrated from eclipse to this ide to develop and learn java code and I am quite satisfied

Pros

The interface is quite simple, there is no complexity, you can give your full attention while writing code and the dark mode is very successful.

Cons

In general, the code is slow to run, but the running time of a complex and long code and a simple code is almost the same. In other ideas, simple codes run fast, complex and long codes take longer time than intellij.

Switched from

[Eclipse IDE](https://www.capterra.com/p/205298/Eclipse-IDE/)

I think eclipse has a much more complex interface than that and it takes a lot of effort to open new projects.

### "High End Java IDE For Professionals"

December 12, 2018

5.0

I use IntelliJ IDEA for Java development, primarily for Maven projects and haven't had any real issues aside from some slowdown when using it on my lower end laptop. Overall it's been an awesome experience.

Pros

IntelliJ IDEA is a definitely a top end IDE, with everything you want as a Java developer. It has support for Maven & Gradle as well as hundreds of third party plugins available to download for anything else you might decide you need.

Cons

While I love the software, it is pretty heavy on computer resources and running it on a lower end laptop will be a slow experience. It is also expensive compared to free solutions such as Eclipse.

### "Best IDE out there"

November 27, 2018

5.0

Pros

This is hands down the best IDE in town. It is constantly being updated with features that make coding not just easier, but enjoyable as well. Very well thought out shortcut commands make using the tool a breeze.

Cons

The documentation on how to best use the tool does not keep up with the new releases of the app. Sometimes you have to 'guess around' the documentation and try to apply what you are seeing in the new version of the app

### "User friendly."

February 18, 2023

4.0

It was awesome I also use JetBrains another IDE. I have done a few projects with IntelliJ.

Pros

Easily debug and write code. Easy file handling. I most like the environment. All packages are in hand.

Cons

Wants lots of updates and a little bit expensive subscription.

Alternatives considered

[Sublime Text](https://www.capterra.com/p/179535/Sublime-Text/)[Visual Studio Code](https://www.capterra.com/p/186634/Visual-Studio-Code/)

Reason for choosing IntelliJ IDEA

For specific languages, I get all the things (e.g. package) readymade in this IDE. In one word for projects this IDE makes things easier.

### "Java Developer's Best Friend"

May 27, 2021

5.0

Overall very happy with the product assuming your computer has sufficient resources.

Pros

I like everything about this but my favorites are: I like the ease of use, availability of plenty of plugins. You can directly integrate with the version control system and view diffs easily.

Cons

Memory consumption is a big issue with all Intellij products. Even with a MacBook having 16 GB of memory is not sufficient sometimes if you are working on multiple projects.

### "Greate Software for Java Enterprise Applicaiton Development"

July 18, 2019

4.0

I would recommend using this software if one needs faster and seamless development and the company is ready to pay money for it.

Pros

1\. The IntelliJ IDEA provides improved productivity by delivering the most intuitive code assistance for all the supported languages. 2. Speed and performance are too cool as compared to other IDEs like Eclipse. It has a built-in keyboard shortcuts for almost everything and we can create the custom ones. 3. There is something called EditorConfig in it that allows us to manage all code style settings for each set of files individually. For this, all you need to do is place the .editConfig file in the root directory containing all the files whose code style you want to define. 4. Significantly improved Maven diagram support. When we work with the multi-module project it is convenient to chek how the modules and their dependencies are connected in a graph. 5. Auto project import is really a nice feature. All you need to do is just search for the project in the system directory and that's it.

Cons

1\. As we add new Maven dependencies we need to refresh the project in order to get them into effect. But in other IDEs like Eclipse and STS(Spring Tool Suite) you just need to save the pom.xml file and that's it. 2. You have to pay money to access all its nice features.

### "Excellent"

December 7, 2019

5.0

I have used it to make an ecommerce application and it is the best editor i have used.

Pros

This is the perfect software for coding heavy projects because it has integrated apache or tomcat server and it detects the project type and changes the server and settings for to run the application.

Cons

The least i like about this software is that it does not have plugins installing feature and we need to define all the dependencies in the gradle or pom file.

### "IDEA is great for bigger projects in any or a mix of languages"

March 7, 2018

4.0

Pros

Having used Jetbrains language-specific IDEs in the past I now just use IDEA with the various plugins. This keep the UI more consistent while still offering the language-specific functionality I grew to love. True context-aware refactoring is by far the best feature.

Cons

The language-specific features do sometimes suffer from issues. Debugging in ruby can, for example, be a challenge to get working as dependencies change.

### "IntelliJ IDEA, One of the best IDEs on the market"

November 8, 2019

5.0

My overall experience with IntelliJ IDEA is very satisfactory. For java programmers, there is no better IDE than IntelliJ IDEA. I found it very convenient and easy to use when I wrote code and programs. Additional features like unit testing and auto code completion are very helpful as well.

Pros

IntelliJ IDEA is an integrated development environment which can be used to edit and run code/written programs on your computer. This IDE can be very helpful as it makes the life of the programmer easy. You don't require to do to the terminal and compile and run your code if you have IntelliJ IDEA installed. It will allow you to edit and run code without any hassle. Also it supports a huge number of programming languages. The paid proprietary commercial edition provides support to more languages than the free community edition. Also it gives additional features like auto code completion, plugin support. Moreover it allows the user to write their own unit tests and this enables the test driven development approach in programming.

Cons

With my experience IntelliJ IDEA is one of the best IDEs on the market. I hardly found any drawbacks in this app. Only problems I found was the lack of plugin support compared with IDEs like eclipse. Another drawback is that it requires a lot of memory and processing power to run compared with other IDEs.

### "The best java IDE have used till date."

July 30, 2018

5.0

It highly improves my coding efficiency.

Pros

Provides a lot of user friendly functionality like auto code generation, code analysis and extensible plugin support. The UI is best among all the JAVA IDE's i have used till this data and doesn't feel boring. Overall its a great tool and has become a sole support to my daily bread.

Cons

The biggest con is the price of ultimate edition, too pricy to be used by beginners. Also if someone is starting as a beginner the functionality provided is too much to learn which may not be required. So not advice it to be used by developers who are beginners.
