The only rival would be Visual Studio in my opinion. Pros The shortcuts and code organization makes development run more efficiently for both small and large organizations. I was skeptical about paying for IDE after using Eclipse for years, but this product is well worth it. I also use Android Studio which is basically IntelliJ for Android development. The initial beta needed some work, but now I wouldn't do Android development any other way. Cons The cost is rather expensive for the product. The community edition is great; however, most of plugins for web development aren't included. It would be great if there was a better trial version. It's the best Java IDE available at the moment and it also support students by giving a free licence for the pro version. So I have used it over 4 years without any issues as a student and a professional. Pros They have added many features in the new version and IDE allows to generate getters ,setters or constructors just by clicking a one item. it makes the coding process easier and efficient. Another feature i like is that it shows the argument names when using a method. It has very user friendly interface and many features to make coding easier. Cons In my opinion it's the best Java IDE available at the moment and current features are great. October 4, 2019 5.0 The IntelliJ IDEA is by far the best IDE available in the market. It comes with a good amount of useful tools built in, is extensible through plugins and offers support for Docker, Database connections, xdebug and more. It's the official application adopted by the company I work for, with more than 600 developers creating large scale software. We've tried many other tools, but none compare to the software created by Jetbrains. Pros The main characteristic that comes to attention is how intelligently the IDE maps the code, making it easy to search and navigate classes, etc. It also offers a myriad of plugins that enhance the experience. Built-in support for Docker and xdebug is also a big plus. Even though there are a lot of good open-source IDEs available today, the superior suite of tools baked in this IDE makes it worth the investment. Cons Due to being written in Java and having so many tools and options, the IDE can be heavy to load and take a lot of resources. It's also not the easiest tool to understand at first, due to the sheer amount of customization. The update process could improve, new versions create a new folder and copy over the configuration, that leaves traces in the computer and if something fails (which rarely happens), configs can fail to import properly. I loved working with IntelliJ IDEA from the first few days and kept it instead of the official Android Studio, even if I was working with an Android app. Pros The IDE market is quite crowded but IntelliJ IDEA is the leader, especially for Java development. It's open source and not limited to Java alone. It has an intelligent plugin architecture, integrated version control and the ability to work on multiple projects. I use it for Android development, even if a lot of devs prefer the Android Studio. IntelliJ IDEA is remarkably well built. Cons The hardware requirements are a bit high if you want to use it optimally. You definitely needs lots of memory (ideally 16 Gb) and an M2 disk to enjoy using it. Review Source AJ Aditya J. Pros I love all the functionality that IntelliJ has for coding and for connecting to seamlessly to version control and to local databases. It has the ability to work for nearly any developer or testing role. Cons It is a memory hog and can use so much of your computer's processing power.
