Intellij is a complete tool that will help you to create and maintain your software. And also, Intellij has a great dark theme!! Definitely it eclipsed Eclipse IDE. Pros IntelliJ is very light, fast to open, fast to search, compilation on the fly is painless. Building your application does not block you to continue working on other stuff. So, the most attractive aspect of IntelliJ is its agility. We used Eclipse for a very long time but now more than 90% of our development teams adopted IntelliJ. Cons Some of the search mechanisms are not so intuitive to use as the ones provided in Eclipse for example. June 5, 2018 5.0 Pros the IntelliJ autocomplete is smarter. It even autocompletes the name of the variable that we are declaring, offering suggestions. For example, if I have a class MyClass and after putting the type MyClass I tell IntelliJ to tell me the possible variable name, it gives me myClass. Pros It is really a complete and friendly IDE for JAVA Application development along with Maven. We can integrate easily with version control, which helps in managing the source code effectively. It offers a suggestion(different methods available in classes along with description) which improves the productivity. It provides good debugging ability to navigate line by line to find the cause of the issue. Refactoring the code is very easy and it supports HTML, Node Js etc Cons Initially it will be tricky to understand the tool effectively and it take some time to understand for beginners. Ultimate Edition of this tool, is licensed and it is little expensive. It takes some time to start up and its heavy application. Cons its a bit heavy weight application with so many plugins installed sometimes the boot up gets really slow. Just the initail wait iguess is worth the other time it saves later. Pros Supports all major Java frameworks very well; Excellent code assistance, easy run/debug configurations; Awesome VCS integrations; Makes writing Java code a breeze! Cons Somehow un-intuitive project management, i.e. creating/deleting /importing a project is not that easy and intuitive, especially deleting a project, it has to be done manually. Does not build automatically, one has to build/recompile modified classes manually to be able to code hot-reload (especially when using Jrebel), which also means that compilation error is only reported on manual build/compile. Can't open multiple projects in the same window (like Eclipse). Error and warning reporting is not centralized and not well supported, should learn a little bit from how Eclipse does it. It is flexible and powerful. No looking back. Pros I honesty tried for a long time to stick with my beloved NetBeans. But unfortunately it seemed not capable to keep the pace of the evolution of the Java ecosystem. I switched to IntelliJ upon a strong peer pressure by my colleagues and I have to say that I'm very happy. It's an incredibly powerful tool with support for every language available for the JVM. The community version is powerful enough to solve basically all everyday problems. Cons It may be overwhelming sometimes as it has a lot of features and with a pletora of plugins the situations can become even worse. Pros Just the dark theme itself is a pro over the boring UI of the eclipse IDE. Moreover, the buttery smooth performance of IntelliJ makes it a winner in my book. Oh and the plugins available is just a cherry on top. Cons It takes a bit of time getting used to when switching from eclipse. The shortcuts are not really standardised for the IDEs available so that becomes an issue sometimes. I worked with only two other IDEAs and this one is a pretty good one (for free) Pros The community version is really good. I use it for Scala, and it supports it well. There are some features that are really easy to grasp. Cons It's hard to know which Scala intelliJ features are available. Also, intelliJ takes a lot of CPU to run which slows down my laptop a lot.
