### "Great Programming IDE"

August 2, 2019

5.0

Pros

JetBrains has some of the best IDEs for programming. So many features make you productive.

Cons

With editors like VS Code getting very popular it's getting harder to justify spending the money for the JetBrains IDEs.

### "My first choice by far"

June 21, 2021

5.0

I recommend it very highly. I wouldn't switch easily.

Pros

Project setup and related options, database integration and debugging tools are some of the standout features. But I love that the software is updated and improved frequently and there's loads of plugins one can use to improve the coding experience.

Cons

Some of the project/module setup can be a bit tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it it's totally worth it.

### "Excellent IDE"

July 22, 2021

5.0

We use IntelliJ daily for writing, understanding and debugging code. It is an essential piece of software for us.

Pros

The most important feature is the ability of the IDE to identify the language of the code and automatically give options to download the necessary packages. It is also very easy to read code in IntelliJ since Cmd+click takes the user to the definition of the object. This and other shortcuts make it very easy to follow the code logic.

Cons

The support of Windows OS is a bit lacking.

### "I used it for SQL"

January 12, 2021

3.0

Overall it does a great job of allowing you to find the data you need when you need it.

Pros

I mostly used this to run SQL queries against the database. It was really easy to create some queries and get back the data I needed along with export it.

Cons

It saved the queries in the screen you were working in, if you closed it, you might be able to reopen it or might not. It would have been nice to have some sort of save query feature so that if I created one and then wanted to run it again several months in the future I could find it easily vs recreating the query.

### "Super IDE built for beginners and power users"

May 24, 2019

5.0

I was working on a Java annotation processor which was fun and did it through TDD. Was a good learning experience. I daily use Android Studio which is built on top of IntelliJ which is just solid.

Pros

The keyboard shortcuts customisation is brilliant. The quick find action is super usefulso you can just type what you want to do. So much customisation you can do.

Cons

Slow start up occasionally, keep pressing F1 instead of F2 which opens a browser tab which is very annoying.

### "Easy to use for a beginner"

May 22, 2023

5.0

I thought it was easy to use. I didn't have an amazing experience but I didn't have a terrible experience either.

Pros

As a beginner, I liked that they offer a 90-day free trial. I felt like the 90-day trial helps out a lot when trying to decide if this is the software you want to use. I thought the monthly price after the trial was not too bad to pay for an individual. I chose not to try the paid version although I imagine it is pretty cool with more cool features. I thought the free trial had so many features. I couldn't use all of them in 90 days which is a pro and a con. The customer service was amazing. They always listened and helped me when I needed it.

Cons

I thought that there were a lot of features even with the free trial. Could get a little confusing.

### "The licensed edition is very feature rich"

April 14, 2021

4.0

Through features like code templates, I was able to increase the developer productivity by nearly 20%.

Pros

I have used both the community edition and the licensed edition. The licensed edition brings a whole range of features that improve developer productivity and make code shipping a breeze.

Cons

The community edition is too bulky for what it offers. Would much rather use something lighter like VSCode.

### "Coding is a breeze!"

July 23, 2019

5.0

Pros

I love how easy IntelliJ makes it for me to organize my code / projects. The IDE is pretty intuitive and helps me catch simple errors upfront rather than spending hours combing through my code to find why I can't compile.

Cons

It takes up quite a bit of space when it's running. Was an issue with my older computer, but I haven't had issues since getting a new machine.

### "One stop shop - Software Development"

March 7, 2021

Overall experience has been great. It has been a pleasant experience transitioning from eclipse.

Pros

It is the best editor that I have used to build software. It has lots of inbuilt plugins to develop web applications. It works well with lots of frameworks and debugging capability is very good. Integration with git is very good and makes the code check in process seamless.

Cons

There is nothing about this software that I do not like.

### "Awesome for coding!"

August 1, 2020

5.0

Overall, I love IntelliJ. It's such an awesome IDE. Once you use it you probably won't want to use anything else. We started off with Blue Jay and man, this is night and day difference.

Pros

IntelliJ is an awesome IDE. I've been using it for several months now after going through a coding Bootcamp. The features and ease of use are awesome. The auto complete is really helpful, as well as the comments for an error or suggestions. It makes coding so much quicker and easier. A comprehensive, powerful product.

Cons

It's a little pricey, and there are LOTS of features, so learning them all will take time.

### "An IDE for probably any language you need, works very well"

December 11, 2020

5.0

Pretty good. I'd combine this and something like VS Code/Atom/Sublime Text for an optimal workflow, as there are tasks where a full-on IDE just gets in the way. It's a great product overall, with a decent price for what it's worth.

Pros

It's the "one-stop-shop" for everything programming related, especially if you're looking for a full-on IDE, that includes VSC etc. It works very well for the most part, is cross-platform and you can probably write in every programming language you can think of. It's one of the most popular choices for a reason :)

Cons

Doesn't have a \_huge\_ ecosystem, even though JetBrains' products themselves are VERY popular. There are plugins for most of the missing features, but some stuff that can only be found in VS Code are missing from JetBrains' suite. In addition, it's a big resource hog.

Switched from

[Microsoft Visual Studio](https://www.capterra.com/p/80230/microsoft-visual-studio/)

Moved to macOS, which the Visual Studio version of is very "incomplete", so to speak.

### "Best IDE for writing and running automation scripts in Java for testing purposes"

January 30, 2019

5.0

Best automation software IDE for testing using Java code

Pros

This IDE has been built by JetBrains unlike others like WebStorm, Eclipse, etc. It is really useful as we can create projects and write scripts in Java code for testing purposes. Running automation scripts in IntelliJ Idea is really simple and intuitive. The overall user interface is pretty simple and easy to use. It is really convenient to run automated scripts and follow the OOPS concepts. Also, it helps in structuring the code based on the language and syntax, that makes the overall readability much simple. It also shows various testing metrics like code coverage, error logs, output windows, etc. We can also integrate various tools, plugins and set dependencies by adding jar files accordingly.

Cons

Available in 2 versions: Ultimate and Community. However, to try out some JavaScript code in the application IDE, we would need the paid version

I loved the IDE for any of my development. Has great plugins for the JSON, Java, Node etc...

Pros

Have been using the intelli J community edition for my development IDE. Has a great integration with the terminal, ability to setup projects and work with Code control tools.

Cons

The learning curve for the user who is using this IDE for first time will be a bit challenging. Once they get on to the tool, it is a smooth flow.
