### "I have been using IntelliJ as my main Java IDE for the past 2 years for a variety of projects."

April 19, 2018

5.0

The ability to explore enterprise-grade software and develop marketable skills.

Pros

The first thing you see when loading into IntelliJ you notice it is very visually appealing, I personally use the default dark theme with a few minor tweaks. It incorporates a window based system that allows you to have multiple files open as well as a multitude of tools included in the Ultimate Edition. When creating a project you are able to choose from a list of templates including all of the Spring Frameworks and many other enterprise frameworks. Within these template options, you can further customize which packages to include. Once you have started coding for a while you will notice the smart completion will become more and more attuned to the packages you often use. This has been most useful for me when I used the built-in documentation tool to add the package documents into the smart completion and can, therefore, use it to not only help code but also learn about how the functions work. While my projects don't usually reach the level of needing a lot of debugging the debugger is quite intuitive and it's easy to set breakpoints and check the value of a variable. One of the more unique benefits is its native inclusion of Kotlin which allows you to use both languages in the same project or even the same file and still have world-class completion and debugging.

Cons

My main gripe with IntelliJ is its ease of use. Its many features create a steep learning curve to be able to fully utilize its enterprise-targeted tools. Documentation exists for it but it is often as obscure as the feature its self. But once you are able to get a grasp you will find the tools are all well built and include the necessary customization which you dreaded at first but have come to love.

### "Sviluppare codice Java in modo efficace"

August 4, 2023

5.0

### "IntelliJ as an advanced IDE"

September 18, 2022

4.0

Great for powerful machines, average for less powerful ones

Pros

IntelliJ is an advanced IDE that I used when developing JVM related projects. It provides a lot of features - especially in the paid plans. I love the search features and the source control integration

Cons

IntelliJ is quite expensive and is very heavy so it is almost impossible to run big projects on less powerful machines

### "One of the best IDES out there"

November 14, 2022

4.0

Developing applications in various programming languages and frameworks (Java, SpringBoot, Android apps etc) in teams, mostly remotely thanks to the version control system and online remote collaboration offered by IntelliJ.

Pros

The product is relatively easy to use. The possibility of integrating plugins, using Version Control System and adding packages from different sources reduces significantly the burden of mundane manual tasks,

Cons

Most of the interaction if provided in GUI windows and tabs, but if there are lots of them, it can be a pain in the ass switching from one another. Maybe similar functionalities could be grouped together.

Alternatives considered

[Apache NetBeans](https://www.capterra.com/p/178681/Apache-NetBeans/)[ECLIPSE](https://www.capterra.com/p/27349/ECLIPSE/)

Reason for choosing IntelliJ IDEA

Its simplicity, ease of use, ease of navigability, and the fact that it allows integrations with tons of other tools.

Switched from

[ECLIPSE](https://www.capterra.com/p/27349/ECLIPSE/)

Because of the ease of use offered by IntelliJ, and the possibility of integrating plugins efficiently. Also, the navigability and usability were better and easier in comparison to Eclipse.

### "Leader of the IDE Pack"

October 11, 2018

5.0

Despite the shortcomings, IntelliJ IDEA is the best Java IDE on the market. JetBrains makes fantastic software products, and this is no exception.

Pros

\- Tons of features to help you increase productivity - fantastic auto complete functionality, easy to jump to different pieces of code, automated refactoring tools, and static code analysis to identify issues, among others - Lots of configurability on things like syntax highlighting and positioning of tool windows make it easy to view your code the way you'd like - By far the best option available if you want to use Kotlin, which is reason enough alone to use IntelliJ

Cons

\- Configurations and preferences interface is not quite as intuitive as it is for Eclipse - Debugger leaves something to be desired, as Step Over / In / Out work differently than in just about any other debugger I've worked with (same problem for all JetBrains IDEs)

### "Great Develop app."

November 6, 2022

5.0

Pros

What I like about this apply is that the EH state using a long time ago and it is the best application to develop your code has everything you need has a somple and easy to use interface.

Cons

I have not had bad experiences with this application only that I might need a good computer so that you do not give you problems at some point but in addition to that it is a very good application.

### "The most versatile IDE ever"

December 20, 2019

5.0

Pros

Functionality. This is the best IDE with functionality out of the box. While installation, IDE allows you to quickly customize language packs, plugins and even install prepared setup for particular development (mobile, web, Java, Android and etc.). Hotkeys and shortcuts make this software the most customizable and agile to your needs. However, you can do the same things for instance in VS or Eclipse, but it will require more time to setup, install and use. Deep integration with debugging/decompilation/SCM/CI tools, whats allow you to work without switching into other apps.

Cons

Community Edition provides the most required features, but my favorite is Professional, which is costly. The license is pretty high for private use and company as well. For big projects, IDE lags a lot. Possibly require some speed up for internal indexes processing.

### "The Best,Powerful and smart IDE that I ever used."

March 31, 2019

5.0

I really love Intellij IDEA i have been using it for years and i really love it, and after each update its getting better and better so , and i use it everyday to develop android apps and i also use it for testing other java codes too, so overall intellij is the best IDE that i ever used.

Pros

I really love its code completion because that the first thing that came to my mind , and i really love the keyboard shortcuts, there are lots if them because of that i barely use the mouse its really easy to code just with keyboard, and i really like that i can change from dark mode to white mode themes it makes it easier to code in day and night.

Cons

sometimes i get some errors while compiling and it doesn't show why its happening so i have to do a restart more often, and there are some bugs while indexing after adding new files and folders to the current project, but with the new update, its getting better.

### "Intellij IDea: The Magnificent Java Ide I have Ever Worked With "

December 25, 2018

5.0

I really love the Intellij Idea and i use it for all my Java programming, every new update comes along with super sexy features that makes this software a top ide in the programming field.

Pros

The Intellij IDea Ide(integrated development environment) is so unique for so many reasons one of which is the user interface, it has a very good user interface that makes any programmer in love with the process of coding, it has the ability to structure your program files and put all the contents in a single file to make sure everything is in it's rightful place, it has static code analysis and provides pleasant coloring to your code which makes it easier to read and to distinguish between the programming language keywords and normal written codes thereby making you aware of the complete structure of your code. its ergonomic design not only makes the development productive but also enjoyable.

Cons

Its not a good platform for people learning programming/beginners. why? Because incase of errors, it highlights and show you where your errors are and possible solutions which is not advisable for the amateur, technically this Ide is for the professionals in this domain who know what they are doing and not any ordinary programmer.

### "Best coding software for all levels "

September 16, 2021

4.0

Am using this software since I start my studies and practice on it a lot ,it helps me to write code even as a newbie also after I became familiar with coding I still use it because there are always something you learn and refer when you write code and you can get that help from intellij ,

Pros

There are so many features when it comes to writing code by using intellij ,you can use templates which are already there and you don't have to start from scratch if you are newbies ,and when you write something which is not right it will inform and give you a clue how to correct it, you can use as many as new tab without deleting your previous work which helps you to.see it back and upgrade it or take some code for your new code by copying and paste...there are many things I like about this software

Cons

For me it's difficult to pick out the weak side of this software but I know there is no product which is flawless. What I can say is since everything is updated I expect more updates and simplicity from this software

### "IntelliJ IDEA review"

April 29, 2021

5.0

This software helped us in building applications in an efficient and effective way. Team integration was very easy because of the version control support that IntelliJ has by default.

Pros

IntelliJ IDEA is so easy to use, because it has an intuitive user interface. The best feature that I liked was the support for plugins to handle numerous programming languages and the support for themes to follow the code in a much effective way. The integration with the business process was flawless.

Cons

IntelliJ IDEA uses a lot of memory. If your machine does not have the minimum requirements then the IDE will start lagging.

Alternatives considered

[Eclipse IDE](https://www.capterra.com/p/205298/Eclipse-IDE/)

Reason for choosing IntelliJ IDEA

The user interface is much better than the alternative. Quality plugins that can be downloaded from the plugin central makes coding a much smoother experience. This improves the focus on coding.

### "Best IDE for java and scala projects "

February 17, 2023

5.0

I highly recommend this IDE as it really speeds up the development once you get used to it

Pros

1\. Support for all the major language and frameworks. I majorly use it for java and scala projects. Huge marketplace with varieties of tools and plugins for almost every language out there.2. The ability to integrate with cloud services like azure helps in faster development and testing of the application. 3. They have a free community version which is great.

Cons

1\. Sometimes it’s difficult to import new projects and build it as the dependencies are not installed automatically. I have faced this issue multiple time with scala projects where I am able to build the project from command line but not from IDE because of missing dependencies.

Pros

I really like it's ease of use. If something is not compiling correctly, the native tools given to you make it easy to navigate to the trouble spot and fix things quickly.

Cons

As with any new piece of software, it took a few weeks to get used to the design. Once I gtt used to it though I've had no problems!

### "Extremely powerful IDE for large Java projects"

July 16, 2019

4.0

I am using IntelliJ IDEA to develop Groovy scripts that improve the development cycle.

Pros

IntelliJ IDEA is great for any development that is closely related to Java. It supports different project workflows and supports dependency management tools such as Gradle and Maven. In addition, it has excellent plugin support to extend the IDE's capabilities. As someone tasked with Groovy development, it was difficult to find a good IDE for a relatively niche field. However, IntelliJ IDEA offers great support which has allowed me to develop my scripts.

Cons

IntelliJ IDEA has a relatively high learning curve for an IDE, which makes it difficult to make use of its many features. I think it would benefit from a UI redesign to allow users to customize what tools appear on the app bar.

### "Almost OK, almost..."

March 16, 2023

4.0

Pros

It can be clearly seen that IntelliJ IDEA is developed for satisfiying essential requirements of Java and Kolin developers. I found it easy to use after switching from Netbeans for Java application development.

Cons

Optimizations regarding runtime performance must be improved for both Windows and Linux, since building a project can take too much time because of background tasks to be completed. Also when I work on JavaFX projects with FXML, it runs terribly bad, it often freezes while switching between code and design tabs.

### "Powerful code editor for java developer"

November 9, 2023

Pros

IntelliJ IDEA is one of the best code editor for software development. The shortcuts and suggestion for code makes the coding journey very easy. The interface is pleasing for the eyes which makes the code debugging quick and effective.

Cons

It takes a lot of memory of computer which makes the experience worst if you are running it on a low end computer. For beginners it might take a lot of effort to setup

### "The Winner of the Battle for Best Java Developement IDE"

January 8, 2019

5.0

I recommend IntelliJ products to everyone in real life who asks for an IDE suggestion, but especially I feel safe recommending IDEA. I feel safe because I know that they will be blown away with just how much it does, and how customizable it is.

Pros

1\. It's FREE for students! If you have a .edu email you can download and use this at no cost, which is incredible for how complex and valuable the software is. 2. Allows you to seamlessly integrate JUnit testing and other frameworks into your Java projects. Relatedly, project structuring is made very easy. 3. It makes refactoring a breeze. Want to change a variable name in twelve different spots at once? Shift+F6 baby! 4. The auto suggestions basically program for you, and the shortcuts let you build typical, wordy structures in a tap of your fingers.

Cons

It does such a shocking amount for you that it's actually a con for new programmers. Partly because it's overwhelming, but mostly because it actually pretty much programs for you with its suggestions, which prevents a new programmer from really learning the reason behind things. This is a rather arbitrary con though, and if you're familiar with the basics of Java, I strongly encourage you to dive right in.

### "The best java IDE ever had"

August 9, 2021

5.0

It's by far my favourite IDE for Java (and every other possible language using its derivates like PyCharm, CLion, Android Studio, etc)

Pros

It's so easy and comfortable building a Java application with this ide. It includes every possible feature (plugins included) and it has the most powerful auto completion and warnings system.

Cons

If you need it to work on a business software like Spring, you need the Ultimate version which may be costly but it's worth it. Also, it requires a lot of computational power to be used fluently.

### "One of the best IDEs I have used so far"

April 24, 2021

5.0

IntelliJ IDEA has taken my coding and development experience to a different level. It takes most of the redundant worries away and allows one to focus on rather important matters while coding.

Pros

The intelligent suggestions and debugging tools have helped significantly. Refactoring and making major modifications is simpler and faster than any other IDEs I have used. Smart assistance including auto reformatting, code generation & completion, shortcuts & macros, packaging, auto-generated UML diagrams, and many more are packed here, allowing maximization of productivity.

Cons

Haven't found that many issues yet. Restructuring and/or moving a project to a different directory sometimes leads to unwanted Gradle or plugin issues. Users with Low-end devices may notice transition delays and lags when using IntelliJ IDEA.

### "Great IDE to work with"

July 16, 2021

5.0

I love this IDE and I think it is the best for Java and Scala. It is very configurable and the navigation is very user-friendly. It has debugging mode and it includes a terminal that allows you to test stuff locally.

Pros

It is pretty straight-forward and if you have worked with other IDEs from the same company, it will not take you more than 2min to get used to this one. It allows plugins that are very helpful (especially the one with Scala) and it lets you navigate from class to class very easily.

Cons

As for every IDE, sometimes there is too much stuff in the screen and that difficults the actual developing of code.

### "My go to JAVE development IDE, for the last few years."

September 17, 2019

4.0

IntelliJ Idea is a great IDE for Java development. But for different languages, IntelliJ Idea would not be sufficient for different functionalities and processes.

Pros

I feel very comfortable when using IntelliJ idea for development especially in java. It has abundant features, and plugins to manage and implement the code. The IDE is very fast and provides great performance compared to other IDEs like netbeans etc. It is also very rich and smart in auto code completion etc. Easy to run unit tests with good debugging features.

Cons

It could be a bit hard to get used to the UI of intelliJ at the beginning. There are less features in the Community versionwhich is free. IntelliJ IDEA ultimate which has more features is pricey. With bigger projects, IntelliJ IDEA might be less efficient .

IntelliJ saves so much time and helps write better Java code that I'd be hard pressed to switch to another Java IDE at this point.

Pros

There are so many aspects to love about IntelliJ but my favorite feature is code snippets, this features saves me hours every week.

Cons

IntelliJ is a resource hog (RAM hungry), but my main gripe is that the IDE does so much it hard to discover all its capabilities.

### "IntelliJ IDEA blows other Java IDEs out of the water"

May 5, 2018

5.0

Pros

I've used IntelliJ IDEA for years, with a variety of languages and frameworks - Java, Grails, Struts, Spring, Groovy, Scala, Gradle, Maven, Ivy, Git, SVN. It is hands down the best Java IDE on the market today. Eclipse and NetBeans are not even close. IntelliJ's code completion, code inspection, refactoring support and plugin ecosystem are ridiculously good. The performance is top notch, if you're used to Eclipse you're never going to look back. The VCS integration is amazing. You're leaving money on the table if you haven't bought this for every Java developer in your organization. It's worth it's weight in gold for developer productivity.

Cons

Scala support is lacking, so that was disappointing. It can be a memory hog (1-2GB), though this isn't usually a problem with developer machines.
