### "Perfect for our team "

August 22, 2023

5.0

Pros

Does what it says on the can! The app itself is intuitive, lightweight, and isn't bloated with features. It was easy to set up thanks to a detailed Help Center and a great onboarding team. The Float Community Slack channel is also an excellent resource.

Cons

There are a few additional features I'd like, but the Float team is pretty transparent with their roadmap, so I'm confident most of those will be added in the coming months.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Float

The "work OS" products (Monday, Asana, Scoro) are more than we need right now. Float is a great middle ground.

### "We love Float!"

August 25, 2023

5.0

Pros

Very easy to use, it's been easy to get people onboarded.

Cons

Sometimes small features are a bit difficult - if you click away you lose what you've started milestoning, reporting and searching can sometimes be difficult but these are very minimal

### "First impressions after a couple of weeks"

January 17, 2019

4.0

Float works as expected but has a couple of UI glitches. It's a bit hard to get real overview as soon as you have more than ~5 people or want to get a long-term view. The tool has a lot of potential and definitely works better than an Excel sheet ;-)

Pros

It allows for very transparent capacity planning within the company. Every employee can see their own and co-workers schedule in advance and make changes to it. Also it forces project managers to do capacity planning since this is our “single source of truth” for planned work. We also like the focus of Float to solve only one business problem.

Cons

There are a couple of things that we discovered in the past weeks: - Milestone tooltips are buggy – they sometimes don't disappear - Horizontal scrolling with a classic mouse does not work as expected (SHIFT + scroll) - It would be nice to have an iCal address for team members to see all “time off” entries in Google Calendar or other calendar apps - Working with recurring tasks is a real pain (Rescheduling within weeks, splitting etc.). We chose to not use this feature alltogether. - It would be nice to have a sync with GitLab to be able to select GitLab issues instead of defining “tasks” in Float all over again. - It would be nice to automatically sync “time off” and G Suite's “Out of office” functionality - Due to the horizontal view it's quite difficult to get a long-term view of capacity. It's only great for short-term (~1 month) planning.

### "Very poor UX and overall design"

August 22, 2023

1.0

I don't like it and it freaks me out.

Pros

Nothing

Cons

"You need to redesign it; it has awful UX and a horizontal calendar. It's not possible to find your last week or current week easily; it constantly jumps to the start of the year. There is no clear visibility of which week is the current one or which days are missed. It's unclear why the Schedule calendar and Log time calendar are separated."

### "Float keeps us afloat"

June 20, 2022

4.0

It helps producers schedule projects correctly and makes sure that nobody is overbooked.

Pros

That scheduling is simple and easy. I'm able to see exactly what I'm working on without having to check in with a team member. It helps with my time management.

Cons

Sometimes I find it a little confusing and I do have to scroll all the way down if I'm working on multiple projects to make sure I don't miss anything. Perhaps there's a dashboard that I can view all I need it one space.

### "Float Review"

January 17, 2019

5.0

We used to use a HUGE white board and dry erase markers for our schedule. We thought that this was the best way for us to tackle our job scheduling and Float was met with a bit of resistance once the boss said we were going to try it. WOW, were we wrong. I would never look back now that we are using Float. One of the best tools we ever used. We are scheduling anywhere from 18 to 26 techs on this program and I fully encourage anyone even thinking of possibly trying out a program for scheduling to do your self a favor and try out Float. I'd be shocked if your not impressed by it.

Pros

Kudos to you guys! I love the newer faster Float! You are making my job much easier & faster. Love the faster navigating/scrolling and the changing of a task’s time by scrolling on the schedule up or down beats the hell out of having to open the task and do it from there. Love the new feature that you can hover over the work task and the notes appear without having to open the task. Great job, keep it up!

Cons

Would like to be able to move a task to the afternoon (or lower in the cell) for a day where it is not a full days worth of hours and there is nothing else for that employee that day. Example, I have a technician on a 4 hour training course and it is in the afternoon. He has nothing else scheduled that day but I can't move the task lower in the cell so it looks like it is scheduled for the morning. It would be nice if you could hover over the "Time off" cells and see the notes associated with it , like you can for a work task, without having to open the "time off" cell.

### "Float is a great solution for small businesses looking to get their schedules organised "

November 27, 2017

4.0

Easy visual scheduling for the team

Pros

We love the easy drag and drop interface, the ease of use of the whole system, the API allowing us to create/sync projects and tasks from our project management system, and the ability for our team to sync their Float schedule to their iOS or Exchange calendars via the iCal feed.

Cons

We think there are some minor things that would make the software even easier to use missing from it: - ability to drag and drop to copy a schedule from one person/resource to another (not just reallocate) - ability to see Notes on a project by hovering over the quick note icon on the schedule - ability to see confirmed appointments vs tentative (clients are using colours to do this at the moment)

### "Time-management and internal booking tool that really works"

June 17, 2022

5.0

Pros

It can incorporate a huge number of different aspects which are all important, and it allows for very easy management of those different aspects in a very simple, clear and concise manner.

Cons

Sometimes it is difficult to see your work booked in - it might be great to have more colours (there are already a lot), but more would be better or different ways to "flag" your work.

Thanks for your review, Jessica! Great to hear Float enables you to keep track of all your project details in one place. A note about project colors -- the person creating the project can assign a custom color to the project. ### "please MAKE THE DESKTOP WIDGET BETTER!!!!!!"

August 23, 2023

1.0

Pros

I think there are many benefits for the operations manager, but I'm not as familiar with those, but I think it is good for planning.

Cons

The desktop widget for tracking time is very hard to use. I have been using the desktop widget for harvest for years and for the past few weeks I've been using the float one and have been very frustrated. Adding hours by percentage of the hours is way too much math. Adding hours in general is very hard, harvest has a feature that works really nicely for if you left your timer running on accident. Still unclear on what happens if you leave your timer running on accident on float. I often think that I'm tracking my time well but then I check and it's only tracked half of the hours I thought it would.

### "Float - Nice tool for team management"

February 18, 2021

5.0

Pros

It is a very visual tool, I love the timeline graph where you can easily filter down the resources on both person and project tags.

Cons

It is rather simple and I would like some more options for tailoring the product to our specific needs, like setting monthly cost limits and including more visual options on each project.

### "Great for a high level, resource management tool."

September 2, 2020

3.0

Pros

Its a user friendly tool that makes resource management and managing a team of 40 with varying skillsets, availability, and calendars feasible.

Cons

It is not customizable, few api integrations that have worked, no development hope even when communicating with brand reps. You almost are forced to use it as is, off the shelf, or not at all.

### "Easy to switch, easy to use, effecient - and overall great experience."

August 23, 2023

Love the software and would not want to go back to our old processes!

Pros

I love the ease of use in creating our schedules, the flexibility to easily edit our schedules, and the overall informative nature of the interface.

Cons

It's too easy sometimes to change an item with a misclick - like shortening time set aside for a specific task by dragging in error.

### "Excellent, does the job"

June 15, 2022

4.0

Fast and easy to use. What else is there to like about an online tool?

Pros

It's simple, clean, loads pretty fast and gives the best statistics and insights that come in handy. The administration of our company also prefers it over other online planning tools, for its convenience. The different colors feature that separates users is really a cherry on top of the whole set-up.

Cons

Logging in hours as a user could be more visible than it is right now. Users may find it quite knotty considering other features of Float; many coworkers have asked about where it's located.

### "Float review from a project manager perspective"

June 15, 2022

4.0

Float has solved issues regarding time allocation and prioritization for me, which is what I really expect from this software.

Pros

I use float to quickly see my and my team's schedule for the day. It gives me an oversight into the entire day's work in a couple of minutes. This is what I like about float

Cons

Logging in time used versus time scheduled can be a bit more streamlined as right now it's a bit difficult to track unless everyone adds in their time log correctly.

### "Floatastic"

January 23, 2019

4.0

It's been invaluable for design resource planning and tracking for both designers seeing their plan for the week and account managers ensuring we have enough hands on deck.

Pros

We've been using Float for daily and forward resource planning for about 2-3 years. It was good to start with, but has continually been updated and improved, the latest version has great new features that we've always wished we had. There are tons of great features: colour coding of projects, annual leave and public holiday entry, scaling of time blocks.

Cons

Most of the niggles have been fixed in this latest update. But having to enter hex numbers for colour selection. It's account managers using this product not designers.

### "Great for planning resources"

August 26, 2020

4.0

It's been a great tool in the toolbox! I will continue to use it and expand my use of its features, since I'm surely not using it to its full capacity.

Pros

Float is super easy to use and is a perfect fit for what I use it for, which is mostly planning resources and allocating tasks for high collaboration digital projects. I love being able to check out our Float boards and instantly see who has availability and manage timelines accordingly.

Cons

I haven't tapped into the reporting aspects too much. I feel like I shift things around so often as timelines change (argh, clients) that it's tough to go back and look at how things changed and affected resourcing/capacity. But that's alright, I use other tools for that.

### "Into the future you go with Float"

January 17, 2019

5.0

It has transformed our creative deparment going from excel sheets sent around via email at the end of the week to everyone having an account and checking their workload for the day. It has also meant I can work closer with the finance department to forecast and see hours burnt.

Pros

Float completely transformed our creative department as it allowed me to be much more reactive with organising the workflow of the floor. Float gave me back so many hours to manage projects. It's very easy to use and a great way to see what projects are booked in with who. We have multiple projects and the colour coding tool for clients is a dream!

Cons

The only con I have found with Float is aligning the same projects tasks in one line. For instance Person A could have Project X with 1st development ending on tuesday and 1st comments on wednesday starting 2nd development, if they have another project, say project Y that could be in the same row as 1st development and 2nd development could be a line below making it a bit hard to follow.
