Currently would give Toast a 5 based solely on support and Knowledgeable support staff. Follow through is minimal from any team member. I’ve worked with several systems with other companies, and was excited about making the change. Not so much anymore.

Pros

When the system first came out on the market, it was heads and tails above the rest. Changes have made the company less easy to work with, knowledgeable support is minimal, and have not been able to get my system running as it did prior to all of the system updates since August 2020

Cons

I’m currently entertaining other systems because the so called menu experts have not followed through on fixing my menu for our business today, versus what it was when we first signed on to Toast. Been a major struggle to use your system with out suppot

Pros

I think it is very user friendly and creates easy to analyze data points.

Cons

I feel there are some aspects that can be very useful but without taking the time to become an expert I am probably not using it the most effectively. And time is hard to come by.

### "The functionality is perfect, the credit cards fees and the customer service are terrible"

great when your buying, lots of turnover in account management, and customer service is non existent when you have a real issue... you just have to deal with it until they decide to call you during your rush, so you can't take the call and then you start all over again.. LOL

Pros

functionality. We have used for 10 years about, since they started I guess we are early adopters. It has truly developed into a great pos, with lots of flexibility. The online ordering portal is second to none. Though they should have some features, like car color and make type options.

Cons

Credit card fees for card not on hand is exorbitant and you can't use other cc companies with this software/tablet. The customer service might be the worst I have ever experienced. "we will escalate this to tier 2" blah, blah, blah.. hilarious. We have a mountain of open cases. Our first pos was with a local guy who built his own software. It was incredible how flexible the software was. It even downloaded directly into our quickbooks without any third party having to do translation. Amazing!! ultimately he retired and never took the software to the next level. Too bad.

### "Worst Customer Service"

Horrible. Now I have to cancel Toast from all my restaurants and start with a new company. Not happy. All because they will not get anything accomplished for you if you are being overcharged, to online ordering isn't working correctly, to menu manager not functioning properly. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS SOFTWARE even though the functionality appears to be great. Not worth the hassle.

Pros

I did like the functionality but the service is so bad, it does not matter how good the software is.

Cons

Customer service, Toast adding billable products and never taking them off because you cannot get a hold of customer service.

Pros

We love Toast and its modern/easy to use setup. It is very easy for both our employees and customers to utilize. We love the online ordering features, the terminal setup and the customer service.

Cons

We are always left disappointed with the processing fees for credit cards. We wish we could price compare. This makes the system more expensive than it initially seems.

The initial hump is really difficult to overcome, but toast is great once you start using it. I imagine it would be a lot more difficult if I didn't have any technical knowledge.

Pros

The ease of use for beginners is great. Very simple for new staff to start using with little training.

Cons

The install is very complicated with little help. Setup could be a bit better.

Great experience, I have minor issues here and there but we always get it handled and customer support is always reachable.

Pros

Ease of use for management and staff. Anyone, young or old, can learn and use the systems easily. Makes running a business fluent and simple.

Cons

Someone features I have brought up to the toast team seem like they should have already been implemented, but aren’t. But they always recomendé good ideas to the development team.

It started off strong, and then just slowly going down hill. They have you locked in is how I feel, and now they don’t care.. They are worried about other things...

Pros

The hardware is nice. Having a handheld order taker is very nice. Also saving some paper with people signing the handheld device, but there are some issues as well. If there is an issue, it is nice to have a US based support center..

Cons

Well, You can not add an auto charge of 3% if a person is using a credit card unless you manually add it, the kitchen display has glitches, an order with 5 things will send a text alert for each item rather than the entire order when finished. I was also promised that the credit cards would not cost more, they would match or beet what I had in the past, and that is not ringing true to the tune of around 100 ish a month.... Took 4 months to get someone to finally review the credit card charges only for him to “shine me on” which is frustrating to a business owner. I have also had a few extremely good feature requests that I know other restaurants would use, like using the hand held to present the final bill rather than printing a receipt... But honestly there is no way to know if anyone has herd you, if anything will happen or if anyone cares... Also you can’t have pictures in the POS.. having pictures as well as having descriptions and a recipe would be great.. but no options...

Well, Honestly I thought it would have a few improvements over the revel pos system.. As I look back, I realize the Revel was an extremely robust system. What I think is simple, like having the first topping free, is not a possibility with toast... You have to give a “discount” which is extra steps and honestly makes you look like you give a ton of $$ away when looking at the reports.. I regret my decision at this point...

### "Toast is a must have for us"

we have a way to track everything that comes in and goes out/gets cancelled, etc. all in one place, so it has been super super helpful and i use it every single day, i have the page pulled up at all times every single day, constantly tracking my stores progress.

Pros

It is very easy to navigate, easy to pull up payments and edit/cancel orders, nice to have allll your info in one spot. We use toast for our POS data, viewing payments, money tracking, all sales, top sold items, we use it to calculate number of guests per day, our deposits, till counts, and a bunch of other vital data.

Cons

I honestly don't really have anything negative to say...maybe make the deposit log spot just a tad more easy to understand, as my employees have a hard time with this part haha, but that's all I can think of...

Overall, I really enjoy the system. It's simple to program and they have a great support system. It's worth the investment to pay for extended support until you or a manager has the ins and outs of the backend in hand. The reporting is awesome and when used the right way, you have your answers to questions you didn't even know you needed to ask.

Pros

I have been using restaurant POS for over 20 years and Toast has shown itself to be one of the best on the market. It is so user-friendly and easy to work in, including the handhelds, that it's amazing. In training new teams they offer a great program and support team. The layout is ideal for high-volume. Reporting is excellent. I refer Toast to most of our clients.

Cons

As with any new system you install, there will be issues and "clunks." Toast is no exception. The worst was the display screen and the use of it on the line. If you do not set aside enough time to train, prior to opening or first use, it will be challenging to understand, especially if you are not used to systems other than tickets and calling out. It just takes time getting used to and working out the kinks upon install.

My overall experience with Toast has been great. We love doing business with you.

Pros

I love that i can change a button on a dime, update prices easily and the customer service is friendly to work with and always helpful.

Cons

I don't like that during a power outage that there isn't a battery backup on the system so my staff can still update their tips before the 4:00 am batch out time for credit card processing. We recently lost power for almost 48 hrs and we were open, there was not really any plan in place per Toast. We cant just not pay our staff their hard earned tips.

### "The best solution for restaurants"

We built an entirely new concept around the functionality of Toast, with kiosk ordering, multiple prep stations and integrated online ordering (from a third party vendor). While we have things working, there are multiple aspects of the workflow that prevent us from being as efficient as we'd like.

The ease of setting up menus and distributing orders to prep stations and expeditors.

The blindspots in the functionality with respect to complex operations like ours.

Honestly I’m tired of talking to customer service agent who are rude and knows nothing about the system so they give you the run around

Pros

Nothing nothing at all, they lie to get me on board now I’m unhappy every day wonder what’s the next disappointment with them

Cons

The customer service agent, pay as you go QR code, tell you use receipts for charge back, receipt don’t need to be signed so it becomes irrelevant

### "We love Toast POS!"

Keeping our menus in sync with what is actually available, an easy-to-use app, and plenty of modifications to menu appearance/organization/labeling are some of our top priorities. As we have added additional locations for our business, keeping active employees and menus accurate across locations has been a learning curve, but overall the functionality of Toast between locations has been very good. We love using Toast and recommend it highly whenever we can!

Pros

This software is incredibly user friendly. Anyone can learn how to use all the functions of Toast if they're willing to go through the plentiful help articles and/or watch the videos. Toast is easy to edit, easy to organize, and the app works much better than other mobile apps we've used for our coffee shop. The reporting options are very helpful, managing active employees, time entries, and menu organization is all very simple!

Cons

If I could change anything, it would be me to make absolutely everything 100% customizable. The only complaint I've ever had with Toast is there are a few things over the years we've wanted to tailor specifically for our business and its locations, but haven't had the ability via Toast. However, there are new features being added consistently, so I have no doubts that the Toast team is committed to making the software as best as it can possibly be.

### "Horrible customer service "

Horrible, sales rep, upper management & customer care is a joke. On \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\], my terminal broke and they said they would over night another one it took three weeks , which really hurt our business , and frustrated our employees, that are hard to come by right now. The terminal they sent had no protective material around it and it arrived broken , waited another week for a new one, NOW 4 WEEKS with out a terminal. I needed to send back the original broken terminal but they never sent me a label. I had no idea where they wanted it send, it took 6 phone calls, one call I was on hold for 53 minutes all phone calls took at least 30 minutes of my time retelling the story and how I JUST NEEDED A RETURN LABEL<,also dozens of emails (their customer care email NO responded) at long last today I received an email \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] from FED EX with a label to print.No email from Toast, so I am assuming this label is to return my broken terminal ,by the way they are billing me for the unreturned terminal $1400.00 which has sat on my desk since August.I would love noting more then to send it back to them and get it off my desk. TOAST "customer CARE "is about as bad as it gets. I do not recommend this company . The day to day POS works fine, most of the time but if you need help you will be forgotten and your business will feel the pain . Remember it took us 4 weeks to get a new POS terminal and months to return the broken one only because they would not send a label.

Great POS system for our restaurant, staff loves it and so does management.

Pros

The best thing about Toast is the ease of use. Menu screens are easy to read and navigate and quickly enter orders. Back end is easy to manage.

Cons

The customer service when you call in for issues is not great. I had 2 credit card readers down and it took over 2 hours and 2 phone calls to convince support that they were indeed bad. Lots of testing when finally I demanded replacement readers for mine which were still under warranty and they finally gave in. Too much time for that small issue.

Being a new restaurant, we have found it to be important to be able to make changes to menus and configurations often and quickly, without disrupting the flow of business. The payroll integration is the feature that really sold us on the software, saving us a ton of money over paying an accountant to do it.

Pros

The interfaces are very simple and easy to learn and navigate. This software is robust and packed with very helpful features. Compared to other popular software packages, it is very reasonably priced.

Cons

The software is complex and there is a lot to learn and can take weeks or months to really get a handle on all the features and configurations.

It was a great service - all do it yourself - which kept implementation costs down. Not easy for complicated food items, so takes time and effort. The new add cost to customers is wrong on all levels, so we are forced to reevaluate.

They are charging OUR customers .99 per order for "online processing". We pay all their fees monthly and do not receive any benefit from this additional cost to OUR customers. This adds complaints from customers (justified), cuts into tips, and is a poor business practice that we can't opt out of. We didn't know they would/could do this to OUR customers. Need to shop around for new POS.

They are designed for small, independent restaurants - who we are. Low cost start up fees. Easy training. Flexible offerings of equipment. Have an office in our city. Popular with our competitors and other local restaurants. Fees at the time we signed up were competitive. Our disappointment in them is incredible - as they went from a partner to an opponent.

Pros

It had handheld systems that made quick order inputs great, especially for servers.

Cons

Many things. It was nearly impossible to split checks, and it refreshed every single time. It was also hard to put in orders for certain things without kicking you out and making you start over. Often, things had to just be typed in under comments.

We have had a great Toast experience overall. It is a vast improvement over our previous POS system and saves us a great deal of time by giving us important information in a concise, effective format.

Pros

The whole package is easy to use and provides a huge amount of valuable information. It also helps build sales with ordering and marketing options (some of which are at additional cost).

Cons

The initial installation required us to do a great deal of the set-up work, which required outside technical help. It also would have been nice to have someone present for an extra day or two to help with errors and changes. I am interested in rolling out Toast Order and Pay, but Toast can't locate a similar restaurant for me to model, which is causing delays in using this feature.

Overall, Toast is the most comprehensive POS, best value for the cost, and has great community support.

Pros

Software is user friendly. It has vast functionality and great reporting. I also use Toast Payroll which has been amazing.

Cons

Support is not efficient. It is time consuming to get problems resolved sometimes. Also the equipment did not hold up well- possibly due to the volume of our business.

Below average. They've kept the software running at all times and that's a huge plus. However, they are charging top dollar and we were expecting a fantastic product. The product is only OK. The service has been spotty; at times good, at times not.

Pros

The POS portion is solid. It's generally easy to use. It's been up about 99.9% of the time which is not true of all software. The people we have dealt with there have been nice and responsive.

Cons

The back end of the software is poorly designed and written. The inventory module is laughably bad; looks like it was designed and written by a college kid in a couple hours. The reporting is also not well thought out. More than once we've found the only option for a pretty standard report is to download data into Excel and manipulate it ourselves. There is no accounting application and no interface with Quickbooks. Generally it looks like a solid group designed the POS and then those people left or started working on other things. The service during the Covid 19 pandemic has been awful. It's nearly impossible to reach support and honestly makes me wonder if these guys are solvent. We had two management contacts that we would call in cases where we had support issues. Now both of those people have been (apparently) laid off. When we called support the last time, the recording warned that there were 33 people ahead of us in line. I've waited for an hour and eventually given up when there were only 12 ahead of me.

### "The first year with Toast "

Compared to my past POS systems this is by far the most user friendly system and It keeps me updated. I am constantly finding new things I can utilize. My staff was also able to adapt to the new system easily. They are constantly showing me new things.. Millennials lol. I am sure with more time I will better understand the system and be able to use more of what it offers as I find it.

Pros

It is very user friendly. It is built that I can search for most of the things I may be questioning. The toast training videos were very helpful in the beginning. I like that I am able to find all of the reporting numbers I need as well as the guest engagement. Being able to send email campaigns directly from the system is a game changer. The pre loaded templates are super helpful as well.

Cons

That I did not have someone to actually help me with the initial stuff. We did not get help with end of day paperwork. The reports were off for an entire week until I noticed a discrepancy in the numbers. We Do counter service with a tip pool so we need overall numbers not numbers that I find after deductions. I also Cannot find a way to remove the Tip pool servers tips in my tip pool numbers. I need them to not be part of my final numbers for payroll purposes.
