### "Good but could be better"

January 4, 2023

4.0

Over all our experience is positive. Being able to extract data from sales & labor is a big help in budgeting for future sales periods

Pros

The ease of updating menu products, employee information and setting up specials/time specific sales. Also the ease to correct transactions & issue refunds is a pro.

Cons

There are some features that could be implemented. Adding drink / food recipes look up to the menu item button would be very helpful. Also adding a generic calculator app for the staff to access would also be very helpful

Reason for choosing Toast POS

Other industry colleagues gave it a thumbs up

### "Essential"

December 6, 2022

5.0

The best pos out there for all restaurants.

Pros

Toast offers all the tools we need as a business. We initially adopted to get away from our legacy system that did not offer affordable POS option with cloud-based services at the time. Toast makes it easy for me to manage all three of my locations.

Cons

There are a few glitches in the system that could be fixed faster. They generally do update and fix quickly but some things take away as they gather user feedback. Also, it would be nice to enterprise our menu management for multi-locations.

### "Our company's experience with Toast has been pretty terrible."

July 8, 2018

1.0

The benefits we have gotten are overshadowed by the drawbacks.

Pros

The front end functionality is pretty good, though not as good as it was sold. Aloha was better. There are features such as drag and drop table transfers that are pretty neat. Splitting checks is very easy.

Cons

I researched Toast very thoroughly and went through many hours of Q&A with the sales team. I feel duped. I should have dug deeper and gotten more personal feedback from current users. The platform has certain features that are very good, but not enough to outweigh all of the bad. Hands down the worst part of it are their service and support after the sale. If I ever get through to support, they typically have to call me back with a solution...which never happens. My account "manager" responds to every communication with regurgitated boilerplate BS and has yet to solve any of my issues. We have frequent issues with our card readers, and our warranty period is up in November. They won't replace the crap readers with the newer upgrades. You don't get nearly the functionality and ease of use on the back end that you pay for. The reporting features are weak at best. The inventory module is terrible. They claim you can use the tablets to do inventory...which is true, but it takes 4x longer to do it that way because you can't select the fields to enter the numbers and then when you do, often times the quantities change. My account "manager" replied to my complaints about this with "Our inventory module may not be as robust as you need, maybe you could add on one of our partner software companies." Short story: Run from Toast and never look back. I regret the move every single day.

### "Toast is a Fantastic Product for F&B"

May 27, 2024

4.0

Pros

Toast is incredibly easy to use for the front of house, back of house, and the back office. The ease of reporting makes my life so much easier. Utilizing the handheld system helps my staff turn tables faster and make less mistakes.

Cons

We have a hard time integrating with InforHMS and sometimes the integration with Resy malfunctions. The system upgrades and there is no warning, which can be difficult to navigate at first.

### "Great POS"

June 15, 2023

5.0

Pros

Toast is a very easy-to-use and intuitive POS. It was a great change from a legacy platform, and a brief stint with another terrible platform. Team picks it up very quickly.

Cons

Wish the handhelds had a longer lifespan. We spent a lot of money on them just prior to covid, then shut down for more than a year. Upon reopening many of them had issues with card readers, batteries and a new model was released. Wound up being many thousands of dollars spent only to be on the cusp of needing to replace them all.Wish there was more flexibility with an enterprise system. It would be nice to have more local customization while maintaining a brand database.

### "Pretty Darn Great!"

December 14, 2022

5.0

Pros

Intuitive and ease of editing/customizing/etc. of buttons from the POS or a computer.

Cons

### "Toast Toast Toast"

December 22, 2022

4.0

I think that overall I enjoy Toast, I am not looking to change over to anything new. I really dislike the tech support side. I had an issue that took 4 months to resolve that seriously impacted my business and I kept having to re-explain my issue over and over again and call multiple times a week for answers. I also have have pretty incompetent people not able to troubleshoot with me over the phone and I am on the phone with an issue no less than an hour, which really makes it difficult for me to do my job considering I have one screen and I need to be present for my customers. I had no help setting up any of my devices and ended up doing it completely by myself, which, of course, there were some initial kinks to work out. Aside from tech support, it's been easy to use for the most part and I find that it helps my business a lot.

Pros

I love the back end use of toast, once you understand how to set up the menus, it is really easy to go in and make changes. I love the ability to compare sales from any date, and I love the daily/ weekly break down all in one area. It's also very user friendly when ringing up customers, once it is all organized, it's quick and efficient.

Cons

Some of the lesser used components are overly complex like the sales categories and how to make changes and groupings. Assigning comp buttons doesn't always work. I just wish that there had been more help upon set up.

Reason for choosing Toast POS

I had more familiarity with the product going into it.

### "We Love Toast! "

Toast has been great for our business overall. Tracking sales and entering orders is so easy.

Pros

Toast is user friendly, both on the front end and back end. Making changes on the fly is simple too!

Cons

Having to hit update so many times. This was a system update and took some learning. My employees feel like they have to push too make buttons to get to the check. Used to be more simple when we first started using toast. Some of the buttons on the screen are also tiny.

Toast has made our business easier to operate. Program it to be intuitive and supply the answers you staff need when guests ask common questions.

Pros

### "Toast support is the worst!"

January 6, 2022

1.0

The support is terrible. Hours long waits on the phone when you call to trouble shoot problems. Once the sale is completed the sales person ghosts you or makes excuses about following up. The installers never know what they are supposed to be installing and then leave with the job half done.

Pros

Easy to use for our employees. Apple pay with the cue works well.

Cons

The support from Toast is the worst I have ever encountered. From the sales people, to the implementation team, to the ongoing support. No one takes accountability for anything that goes wrong. After you sign up and then want the system installed, contacting the installers is next to impossible. No email address provide, just a google phone number that no one ever answers. If I could I would change back to Micros, but with 10 locations now using Toast that is not financially feasible.

Reason for choosing Toast POS

Slick used car salesman.

This has hands down been the best experience with a POS company and software that I have had in over 35 years in the industry.

Pros

Cons

### "Beware of their promises"

October 21, 2019

4.0

After 6 months, I am not impressed. I am spending so much more money than I was before, and put in so much effort and time into setting everything up, but nothing is ever on point with Toast.

Pros

Nice features and ways to set up the menu for ease of use by employees. User-friendly up to a certain extent.

Cons

Most of the features promised by the sales rep were all available at an extra cost, after paying a lot of money already for the system and the hardware, you have to pay extra for EVERYTHING. Their customer support is very unreliable, sometimes you have someone great who knows exactly what you are talking about, sometimes it seems like the person has never even used the POS before... They put you on hold for 10+ minutes at a time too.

Switched from

[Square Point of Sale](https://www.capterra.com/p/275802/Square-Point-of-Sale/)

The image depicted by the sales rep of Toast was that it had all these funcitonalities and features that would make my life so much easier, but the truth is, everything is at an extra cost AND most of the things are just launched so they have no idea how to work it properly. For example, she said they had a marketing thing to collect emails. You can't even send out newsletters to your customers through the system, which I could do with Square for $20/month. Their rewards system is very complicated and customers are always confused about how many points they have and how they can use them.

### "Bookkeepers perspective"

March 27, 2023

4.0

Overall, I would say our experience has been very good with TOAST. I really appreciate the support experience with Toast, 24/7 phone support.

Pros

I like the reports functions. They are very easy to customize by date, employee, menu item, etc. They are also downloadable to either pdf or excel spreadsheet which makes them even more customizable for my needs.

Cons

I don't like that servers can do quick edits to the menu that may cause a problem with the sales category field not properly filled. This of course causes a problem for month end accounting for me.

### "A disastrous experiment "

February 18, 2021

1.0

The initial sales experience was exhausting. It's like they hire people from the mattress stores: they quote you prices at 4,000% of what they need and then call you constantly, coming down. The equipment's sleek and they're good at helping with installation. But if you're a small outfit like mine, they probably sold you twice as much stuff as you need. Pre-pandemic the customer service was on point. But then the Toast-Go that my coffee shop relied on (the mobile unit we used in our drive-thru window) crapped out; it just stopped charging. They sent me another one, but for five days or so the speed of our drive-thru service was significantly impaired. Then the new Toast-Go crapped out: it just didn't charge anymore. Same thing. This time it was impossible to reach customer service. Apparently they laid off most everyone in COVID April. Maybe it was possible if you could wait on hold for a couple hours. There is no "callback" function on their customer service line: you have to listen to the music. Through their awkward online customer service mechanism, I suggested they send me another MobileGo but let me hang onto the current one, in case it started charging again (the previous one had done this, after several days of lying dead, before I had to send it back). They never got back and ended up charging me for the new piece in spite of my warranty. The new one crapped out. I canceled my contract. They're making me buy it out for $33 a month x 20. I hate Toast.

Pros

The UI is pretty intuitive and the reporting is very solid.

Cons

It failed constantly. They're charging me anyway.

### "Toast Changed Everything for the Better"

December 19, 2022

4.0

Pros

We started with Toast in 2020 during the pandemic. Toast was the only thing that was good about that year! The integration of the online ordering into our daily or weekly menu updates are seamless. Customers had questions answered and orders filled without our help or guidance. I love the ease of use for service. We have had several new staff members and they pick up the system without too much training. It's easy to transfer tickets and items, cancel sales and give discounts, as well as run all the reports we need for success.

Cons

I wish there was an app where I could change things, look at reports, and update menus from my phone instead of going through a browser.

Positive, for both POS and Payroll. While we have had a few hiccups, I have been impressed with Customer Service and Tech Support in most instances

Pros

From point of sale, to payment processing, to administrative setup up, to analytics and reporting, this is legitimately the most intuitive operating system I've used in nearly two decades in the restaurant industry. I sing its praises to every restaurateur/industry employee I come across.

Pros

Intuitive front and back end for both user and admin. It is night and day from every other operating system I've used. Everything about this system is designed around the end user experience and implemented nearly flawlessly.

### "Toast Review"

March 17, 2023

My sales coordinator \[sensitive content hidden\] has been amazing and is still working to help us with things. Our on Board coordinator was very good in the first few weeks. Once we went live, we still had problems we ran into that needed to be fixed. But I could tell how busy he was, and I started getting responses like call the help line or look it up in toast classroom or watch this video. Toast help is great but there is soooo much information in it that sometimes it would take a long time to find what I needed when it was just a single question, I needed an answer for.

Pros

The real time data. The ease to change anything form my phone. use of the handhelds really helps in steps of service.

Cons

### "Toast--Support when you need it."

May 16, 2019

5.0

We are still early in the implementation of using Toast, but thus far I have been very impressed with their customer service and professional manner in which they have trained and supported our company.

Pros

I love that Toast supports their product. You can call and get someone on the line that will help you answer your questions. They also provide the hardware necessary to run their software. They are constantly updating their software to meet the needs of their users and are staying current with the technology. One option that is particularly useful to us is printing individual labels for each shake. In other words, we could have a bus of individuals come to our restaurant, and we need to print individual labels on each shake to identify what is in the shake so that it gets to the right person. In the past, we had to individually write on each cup.

Cons

The most difficult part to swallow is the fact that you have a monthly payment for the software--even if you are a seasonal business and only open for less than half the year. Toast will make some concessions for that, but it still seems costly since our other solution we used was free and pretty much did everything we needed short of printing individual labels for the shakes.

Alternatives considered

[Square for Retail](https://www.capterra.com/p/170272/Square-for-Retail/)

Reason for choosing Toast POS

We chose Toast over Square because of: 1. Dedicated support 2. Individual labels for each shake 3. Text notifications to customer when their food is done 4. More reliable KDS (Kitchen Display Systems) 5. Much larger and more functional KDS screens
