Ecologist Environmental Services Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Fulcrum in Ecology" July 18, 2019 5.0 Fulcrum is, or should be, the industry standard for Ecology data collection. The ability to generate literally any style of form from plain text boxes to hundreds of option drop-downs, means that you can keep up with the demands of surveying nature. This software has saved time, money and a lot of peoples hairlines within my own company, and I am sure within numerous other consultancies. Pros The simple but infinite customisation options for each app that you design mean you can have very strict control over the data you collect, which is crucial in ecology due to the diversity of survey work that takes place. Additionally, as the industry often demands unsociable hours, the ability to sync the device to a central shared database with a number of users reduces the amount of time you're waiting for data from colleaugues. And another obvious benefit in an industry based outdoors, is that you can survey in the rain without getting paper mache survey sheets! Cons The only issue I have encountered with Fuclrum is the accuracy of it's GPS tracking (which may actually be a device issue). This has sometimes led to individual small data points such as trees in a woodland being mapped a short, sometimes long, distance from their actual location. However, this is easily resolved within the app itself with patience. Review Source nV neil V. The help and instructions are easy to understand. Using the apps are also easy, especially for operators who are not very technological literate. Price is within the research of my customers, mostly volunteer not for profit groups and trades people. Cons The repirting function needs work, the reports are not easy to tailor. Especially the hiw the report is set out and you can only print on data entry at a time, a consolidate report is a good option to have. Where i can combine a number of data entry's into one report . Downloading data is also a little clunky, this could be streamlined to target the data thats required, its time consuming to delete and modify CSV files. However Fulcrum were very dishonourable in the way they continually pushed prices up, and now require a minimum of 5 paid users regardless if you only need one. I would have loved to stay with the platform but only need one user account and refuse to be bullied into paying for 5. Honestly folks you can produce almost the same level of capability using a few data collection platforms that have an API and coding it using Ai for a fraction of the cost. I should have gone down this path years ago and saved the money and stress of constantly knowing Fulcrum would jack the prices yet again. Great software, but DON'T lock yourself in to this company. Pros I used Fulcrum for years with my organisations, it's fast, has great offline access, is very capable and simplifies the entire data collection process. It's relatively easy to learn and the ability to edit forms and reports using Java script is excellent. Cons The cost has become ridiculous and as such it's completely unviable for any small business, or new startup. It is certainty much better than other programs that I have used before. It is easy to use, images get uploaded superfast. Pros I use Fulcrum to submit completed jobs. The best advantage is a superfast upload of images. It literally takes seconds to get them uploaded. Another feature that I love is the fact that program saves any details that have been entered even in the event if program closes down. This saves so much time. Cons Sometimes selected filters don't allow to see all reports. This can be abit annoying when filter get selected by accident. It would be great if system would be able to remember any additional or new items when doing PAT test, and would keep adding them to the database, so next time it would be quicker to simply select the item rather than typing it in manually. We used to use another program and it was cumbersome and extremely hard to use. Pros The ease of taking pictures with the Fulcrum program. I know exactly where I am going for every photo that I take. Cons As a company we can only have 2 Routes in the program at one time. I am all over the state of Illinois and would love to be able to have 3 Routes that I am doing. Sometimes I have to come back home to get another Route which takes time and wear and tear on the car. I have tried many of Fulcrum's competitors but they all - just didn't just have everything I needed... Always something that stopped me during the trial period. I found Fulcrum, and tested it and it grew on me the more I used it. The forms are simple to write and simple to alter and amend. The access is easy from phone. tablet and computer. The data is easy to search and check. We now use it in every part of the business. Estimates, QA inspection, Covid19 inspection, health inspection, leave forms so many forms. It is now a key part of the business. Cons My main issue with Fulcrum, which lets is down compared to others, is the PDF file / report is creates. Not even using the company logo within the report. Not able to edit it - even simple editting. No Bold or change of font. No .... Nothing.. You get what they give you, or you can pay a lot of money for a custom report, which you then can not change the form or the report in the future... without paying a lot more. Previously I would have to go to a site, get the GPS coordinates and then come back and put them into GIS. No I simply use Fulcrum to collect the point, then I share the data to QGIS and then once I save the data it is automatically uploaded to my PostGIS server and to the State of Tennessee repository. No muss, no fuss. LOVE IT and I frequently give talks at conferences and show my Fulcrum products to hundreds of people at a time. Cons I wish that Fulcrum would do lines and not just points. Then I would be able to more precisely map roads and driveways. May 10, 2021 4.0 Pros The ease of use as well as the expandability of the software is what I like most about this software. Someone with no programming experience can create a form and start using it within a few hours. This form will be simple and usable and easily accessible. If you are a developer you are able to extend the forms very and put in more time into a form to create more quality of life improvements into a what was initially a very simple app. Being able to recommend this to a person with zero coding experience as well as a person with extensive coding experience is what I like the most. Cons I find Fulcrumapp is always introducing new features which can cause bug and other issues to arise with my users. There have been a few times where my team is unable to edit entries due to these bugs. That being said fulcrum support is great and always provide great support so I know when an issue is an internal fulcrum bug or a bug created by me or someone on my team. Pros The capability to create bespoke forms and have control over their updates. Cons I'd like if there could be more options for mobile users to use alternative tile sets. It accepts only MBtiles for now. For mobile app would be beneficial to have more filtering options. Potentially more tutorials from developers would be beneficial to have.
