June 17, 2025 5.0 The overall experience has been great. We would rank Caspio as a top 5 vendor that we utilize to build and support small business apps. Pros The platform has been very reliable and stable. It allows for rapid application development and proof of concepts. Cons Issues with Caspio have been very very minor and I'm really not comfortable pointing out or digging for something to not like, but if there is one thing, the marketplace and barcode scanner POC that cost a lot of money, did not work as expected and getting support for it meant I would have had to engage professional services and pay even more. We gave them the current system we use and all the bells and whistles we currently have they said they can do it and that it should be completed within a couple months. The program is not complete yet. They are claiming we changed what we wanted when we did not and they currently have the google sheet which has all the coding we want except for the auto emails and texts to personnel. They are trying to charge us more now to do what they already agreed to do and they will not return our money. Do not use them at all please!!! Since signing up with us last Feb, we've held weekly meetings with your company to review the scope and requirements of your project. Your project scope has changed on 3 occasions and this has led to an increase in the number of development hours required. We have emails, call recordings, and signed proposals, including from the CEO of your company, agreeing to the proposal and the scope included. Finally, in response to your comment: "User-friendly but does not allow for unlimited users". Caspio is proud to be the only no-code/low-code company that offers unlimited app users for its customers. Very helpful. Offer an NGO discount to non-profit users. Easy to use product. Extremely flexible and easy to change. Pros It is very easy to use, and has a relatively simple learning curve. It is flexible for different use cases. It has made a huge impact on our ability to increase monitoring and evaluation of our services, capture and analyse data and produce reports for internal quality management, as well as donor reports. The record level security functions allows us to be compliant with South African legislation about privacy and access to data. Previously we used multiple Excel spreadsheets. With Caspio, everything is in one place, accessible by all staff and easy to export and to link different tables and datapages. Cons It would be very nice if they gave non profit clients a larger NGO discount or more data pages in the package. The product is excellent. However, money is very tight these days. Having said that, the product is still the more affordable option when looking at similar products. I don't believe we'd be able to find a more effective solution for the app that we've built on the platform. Balance of cost, platform performance, level of support and features is unparalleled. Pros The flexibility of the platform, and the support offered are generally outstanding. The customer success team are generally very attentive, and the support team are normally always quick to respond, and very helpful to provide examples on how to implement solutions to specific problems - they are always quick to understand the problem and offer suggestions. The platform performance is great, and it is very flexible - not having any limitation on number of users for the portal I've built is great and a differentiator of Caspio. Also I think generally it is quite competitively priced. Cons There are a few features I'd like as standard which aren't in my plan, but it is easy find work-arounds as the platform is so flexible. I couldn't find a Caspio standard way to make a menu for my app, but it was easy find some code to do that - incorporating other HTML code into Caspio is very easy and makes it a very powerful platform. I first purchased Caspio when hopes of managing our customer data, but quickly discovered I could build out beautiful reports and queries and place them on my public website. I designed tons of analytics around our workforce, which ultimately lead to our organization receiving numerous grants, resulting in rapid growth. I imagine all the staff at Caspio know me by name simply because of how many chats I've opened, and they all probably cringe when they see my name pop up... but they've always been so nice and helpful to me. They always take the time to help me find a solution, or point me in the right direction, and have even come up with custom solutions and workflows to address our never ending demand for data. Pros Caspio is the ultimate application designing software for individuals who love a "sandbox" feel when building out. The program can be as simple, or as complex as you chose to make it. Basic functions, such as generating a report or query, can be done in minutes. However, where it excels is with the sandbox feel I mentioned at the beginning. Caspio is not a linear program, meaning there are multiple ways to solve the same issue, which allows you to customize your builds to your exact needs. Let's say I want to create a database of new customer contacts. I can create a submission form for the customer, which auto-inputs their record in my Caspio table (database). I could even auto-assign this customer to one of my staff based on the customer zip code. My staff receives an email of a new customer lead, and maybe I want an auto follow up email to the staff if they haven't contacted them in 3 days. I could go more advanced and make a scheduled task that says "If staff haven't contacted the new customer with-in 7 days, put a mark against my staff, and re-assign the customer to a new staff." Or, take it a step further - Auto send the customer a coupon code, or a form where they select who they want to work with. The possibilities are endless - whatever you can imagine, you can create. I am constantly reworking applications that I build 5+ years ago, thinking of new ways to make them even better. I've been using this software daily for over 10 years, and I've never once encountered a database challenge that I can't solve with Caspio. Granted, sometimes the solutions really require you to think outside by box, but the fact that this option is even there is what keeps me a faithful Caspio user. I've tried other database software's, and they all have a very guided and limited feel to them. While some people will gravitate to this type of approach, I tend to stray away from it, because I love knowing that I can always come up with a solution to my problem. Cons Caspio subscriptions come with 2 frameworks - The original Bridge framework, and the newly release Flex framework. Bridge is incredibly powerful, but the public facing interface can feel a bit dated and clunky. As I mentioned before, you can solve any issue you encounter. I've created new interfaces over the years, and built some very beautiful styles, but it took effort. Flex on the other hand offers a stunning modern and beautiful interface, but it lacks the power of Bridge in its current iteration. Caspio is releasing frequent updates for Flex though, and I'm slowly finding myself migrating over to Flex because of how expedited the building process is. You can also integrate Bridge applications into Flex applications fairly easily, but the issue you'll encounter there is the public interface not perfectly aligning. I have found them to be very knowledgeable, responsive, and easy to work with. When I discovered that some of my requirements did require some coding knowledge, I was able to obtain support from Caspio for a nominal fee. Pros The best aspect was the relatively simple nature of learning to use it and then building an app - as a person that does not code! The process of structuring the database, uploading the initial data, then maintaining it, has been very easy. Cons There are very few cons. I did discover - as a non-coder - that there is some coding necessary when it comes to formatting of reports. It is not absolutely necessary but to truly finetune formats (fonts, colors, placement) one ultimately is aided by knowing to code. Fortunately, this embodied only about 5% of the development. Reason for choosing Caspio I looked at several products (though I do not remember the names) and easily settled on Caspio. The online help is visible even when not a customer so I was able to take a peek and liked the ease of use. System Analyst Government Administration Used the software for: I used a free trial ### "Great alternative to traditional applications" October 14, 2020 5.0 I was able to take 22 tables from a legacy, standalone application, export them from MSSQL into Excel and import them to Caspio. After some of that learning curve, and some instructionals from Caspio, I finally worked out and connected all the tables so they could be queried for reporting. Building the datapages after that, I could do simple things on my own but it became clear to me that I would need their professional services to build my application (in 4-7 weeks compared to 8 months if I were trying it on my own). If I knew the interface better, I might not need their services but time is a factor in my decision. Pros The low-code approach frees you from having to learn any programming language and rely upon it. It is flexible enough to allow you to build literally any kind of application you want from simple to complex, which is powerful and liberating. No more dealing with filthy vendors!!! Their support, even on the free tier, is outstanding. There is also a TON of information and instructionals available on the web. They seem to want you to be successful, and go the extra mile to help you be successful. Cons There is a steep learning curve, BUT the peak is not high and it won't be long before you are comfortable and moving along building things at a good clip. As we have now entered the age of low-code and that the opportunity to have SaaS systems, that used to be reserved to large enterprise and government bodies, is now reachable to man small to medium size enterprises. In this respect, Caspio has played out an important and critical role by offering a reasonably priced and powerful platform to them. Pros Caspio is a very flexible tool for creating and maintaining SaaS systems for your company or for your customers. You need a basic understanding of relational database and how to work with them. Once you are there then, maybe after a few hours, you are ready to go. Everything else when it comes to creating queries and views, unless you want to create something unusual, is straight forward. Designing datapages is also quite easy and only requires a minimum of learning time. Publishing the datapages on your website is also excellent as Caspio offers different options for achieving it, depending on what web publishing tool you are using. Cons As we are doing solution prototypes using MS Access, we tend to upload the application database into Caspio to speed up the process when implementing a solution. The drawback with this method is that although we can upload tables and data, we cannot upload views. This is mostly due to the fact that Caspio does not handle views in the same way as MS Access, in fact not allowing a few functionalities such as calculated fields. I don't know Javascript or HTML so anything code-related that wasn't laid out exactly within a tutorial was frustrating to tackle. I also struggled to build out a front-end that looked good and tied to the datapages I was building, and the templates Caspio provided me still required that I knew web development to get running, and I did not know how to customize them. I did appreciate that pages could be easily embedded within Wordpress or other website builders. If I knew how to code, I would definitely use Caspio though. It gets thing up and running sooo fast. Using as a base for the backend is a great idea as it is 100% customizable. In that case I would totally recommend. Pros It is 100% customizable, and there are tutorials for just about everything. The community forums are also active, with Caspio support actively participating. Professional Services seemed very capable and able to do just about anything for you if you needed it. Cons For just about everything I wanted to do there was some need for a "custom" solution, and I was heavily dependent on my account manager who was always ready to refer me to Professional Services for even simple integrations. Their support team is responsive, their documentation and videos are accessible and helpful, and the platform itself is excellent. Pros Caspio's no code platform makes app creation easy and quick, while maintaining a great amount of flexibility. I've created tables, relationships, views, forms and reports, and I continue to create new reports and apps as new business needs arise. There hasn't been an issue we couldn't resolve. When we needed to build a new app and database to house suggestions and ideas, we turned to Caspio's project team (we didn't have the bandwidth to do it ourselves). They did a great job working with us to create the product we needed. Cons Updating the style of reports isn't as intuitive as I'd like it to be but we've found some styles we like and continue to use them for most of our reports and forms. July 13, 2018 4.0 Quick "basic" web app and form creation. Pros Tough review because I like Caspio. And the support is generally pretty good. Basic apps and workflows are pretty easy and intuitive. Cons The No Code Needed is very misleading. Most workflows and apps I have built or needed required some functionality that had to be "custom coded" with javascript. There was no out of the box option for some database/app functions I thought would be standard. If you look at the support forums there are a lot of people stuck needing special code written to make it do what they need: https://forums.caspio.com/forum/49-caspio-javascript-solutions/ And calls into tech support often ended with "you will have to have some custom code written to accomplish that" for a fee. If you are a Javascript guru, you will be much better off. But the friendly pictures on their website of small business owners touting no code I'm not sure is a reality for most. If you are going to use it I would recommend the pro level because the costs add up after you use 5 data pages. Other seemingly basic options also come at a cost. To be able to select previously uploaded files in a report to download them was an additional feature. I think its more for businesses with some tech staff that needs out of the box apps built but then they can code to tweak. Average Joe, not so much.
