The software, however, is incredible cluncky. There is nothing intuitive about ActionStep and the support team is apathetic and unhelpful. Pros The software has some powerful features. Cons The support is terrible. Unless you have the resources to dedicate an FTE to working on implementation, getting ActionStep up and running is a nightmare. April 6, 2017 5.0 i've been able to expand my law firm to another state, and double my caseload without having to add any staff; all due to Actionstep. It is unbelievable. It does everything you need, and it does things that you didn't even know you needed. This is the best investement i have ever made. The workflows are very customizable and you can really tailor everything the way you would like it. Cons For a small law firm, the customization process can be a pretty big undertaking for one person. If you don't have someone completely devoted to the customizing process, it can take a lot of time and effort. It allows customized grouping of data and simplifies reporting. The best part is the integration with MS Word. Cons The checks for cost filter is not user friendly and has difficult learning curve. Simplifying the accounting process. Customization of information to be displayed in the matter home screen, viewing all relevant data at a glance. Numerous relevant matter/trust/accounting report. Frequent webinars on a variety of topics and user guide with videos that help in staff training. Cons Currently no cons with using the software. So far the software has not only saved time with the company, but has also streamlined our processes. We transitionedin stages, using AS for the shorter matters before fully committing to a transition. This allowed us to ensure everything work just right and gave staff a shallow on-ramp for the new system. Pros $60 per month per user, compared to $197 per user per month for LEAP. That's it's 100% browser based and it integrates with Xero, Dropbox, Gmail and MS Office. It's incredibly customisable and workflows rock. Cons On the desktop, nothing really - it's doing everything we wanted. The mobile IOS app is in alpha and needs serious attention to bring it up to par with the LEAP equivalent. Managing Attorney Used the software for: ### "Great concept, bad implementation" October 6, 2015 3.0 I used ActionStep for about 6 months, the support starts off as very helpful but towards the end I had a support ticket that went 2 months without being touched. The help guides are (very) slowly being updated and often calling support is the only way to figure out an answer. I love the concept of workflows, CRM, and business accounting all in one. I hope they get up to speed and can provide the support to match their concept. I may look into it again in a couple years if the support and ease of use improve dramatically. Owner Used the software for: ### "Five Years On" January 18, 2016 4.0 Five years ago I had what many thought was a mid life crisis when I upped stumps from a firm where I was the longest standing partner and decided to go alone. The first decision this IT illiterate had to make was what software would I use to help run my new firm. I considered everything from a bureau service to a server based system . By luck I chose ActionStep. At that point I had 2 users neither of whom had any experience with a cloud based system let alone ActionStep. Next month I will have 10 including my wife and our accountant Fortunately for us we had a dream run with ActionStep and every day we find another feature which helps us run an efficient and profitable firm . It combines accounting, billing and file/case management. If you need a system that does everything in one package and lets you keep tabs on all the moving parts- then this software is for you. On the other hand, possibly due to the myriad of features it offers, be prepared to put in LOTS of time in pre-start up familiarisation and preparation. It is a steep learning curve. I would recommend that one person be put in charge of the project when starting out. That person must watch the various webinars they offer and read the manuals etc. This will really help. They offer a service to set up the system. You will need this. Whilst it is tough at the beginning, friendly help is always readily available and in the end you will find that the system is really convenient, easy to use and is worth all the effort. Our database of clients, their equipment and work history was all previously held and maintained in a paper filing system. This information is now stored electronically through Actionstep and is accessible to anyone with our permission from any location. Searching a client history through Actionstep is far easier than a manual search of paper files. The time saving and improvement in accuracy of our processes involved with the operation of a busy service department are invaluable. Anything recurrent can be captured and standardized, enhancing efficiency and decreasing the risk of mistakes. It requires time to get accustomed to it but once it is done, it works very well and the support service is truly reactive and helpful. Also, Actionstep listens to its customers (e.g. via user groups) and dedicates time and resources to innovation (useful plugins), which keeps it and its users, few steps ahead. Actionstep is the first product that allows me to run sales pipelines for multiple clients with different sales processes. The product can be used to manage all aspects of my business including sales, marketing, HR, accounts. The great strength of Actionstep is its flexibility and the ability to be quickly adapted as the business requirements change.
