Every time I have to develop something against practicepanther's API I feel like I would rather be at the dentist

Pros

PracticePanther allows the attorneys to keep time and allows us to keep our open matters in a centralized location.

Cons

I work for a law firm that uses PracticePanther. I have to say, as a software engineer, that aside from some SOAP interfaces I've had to deal with, PracticePanther has the worst public-facing API I have ever seen. It has not been updated in 10 years and it is completely unrepresentative of the data that you can get from clicking around the app. This is an issue for me because PracticePanther's reporting dashboards are horrendous. For an app that is geared toward running a business, there is very little in they way of actually reporting how your employees are (or are not) bringing in revenue. For this reason, I've built an entire ETL layer over what little, poorly formatted, data I can gather from the API and stitched it into nice dashboards complete with alerting via various channels and my own endpoints for querying. This is actually useful for the business' stakeholders. It's gotten to a point where I am at this very moment writing a selenium scraper to go get things from the website. Every request I make to push updates to the API are ignored. Aside from the API, the application has also changed very little over the past decade.

### "Practice Panther is a great program"

Practice Panther was simple to use. I used it for a brief time and I was able to keep everything organized.

Cons

I would have liked Practice Panther to have a separate organized section for each case. It was hard to navigate the docs as they were all lumped together.

Pros

Using Practice Panther is intuitive largely because of the logical graphic layout. Things are exactly where you think they should be. My staff has needed very little time to come up to speed on Practice Panther.

Cons

I have no complaints. I would, however, make the colors customizable per user for fun.

The software was ok. We decided to go with Mycase instead. The experience was fine until we attempted to cancel our PracticePanther subscription.

Pros

Simple user interface. Easy to use on day 1.

Cons

Very difficult to cancel. There is no online option. You submit a request on your account profile, wait for a call, and if you're not available for the call you must return the call from their support team who doesn't answer. In the end you're playing phone tag leaving voicemails trying to cancel a cheap monthly subscription. Very simple solution they obviously don't want to implement - have a 'cancel my account' option in your account profile.

I moved to PracticePanther from a larger, more expensive program. I really like the small footprint and the way it works. Customer service is fast and responsive. I have no meaningful complaints. It is a great program.

Pros

It is nice to have the software online as SAS (Software as Service) as I dont have to worry about software updates. It is great to have my data from the program online as well so that I can log in, access my data, and work from anywhere I have internet access. Data is easily merged into Word docs. Billing is easy to do. It is a straightforward easy to use program that I would recommend to anyone.

Cons

Like any online program, if the server is down or if I have no access, I am dead in the water. On rare occasion this has happened in court, but it is usually fixed very quickly.

Everything. From the calendar to contacts, to matters to invoicing, this program has it all. The interface is easy and intuitive. I can usually accomplish whatever I want without trouble. When I have questions or don't understand how something works, PP has lots of online tutorials that include both video and text / image guidance. Very useful.

Cons

When saving emails, there is a max file size when uploading attachments. Most of the time my attachments are too large to upload to PP.

PracticePanther has resolved issues with missed appointments and deadlines by easily tracking the same on a shared calendar that all members of the firm can see at a glance while in office and remotely when away.

Pros

Easy to integrate from previous case management system, and a dream to use since doing so. Couldn't ask for a better, more user friendly product.

Cons

Only thing we haven't liked is the ability to calendar multiple cases on one event, but PracticePanther software developers have promised to look into this feature.

Pros

I like using it - it's easy to use and people on my team enjoy it too. Easy for billing and time managements, which is primarily what my law firm uses it for. We have had it since about 2018, and overall, I'm satisfied with the functionality. I haven't tried any of the competitors so I don't know how it compares.

Cons

Customer support is highly inadequate. I've had an issue with uploading billing entries and costs onto invoices on my iPad. It can only be done on a computer or laptop, but it doesn't work on iPad. When I open an invoice to edit it, and click on the link that states "add unbilled time, expenses and flat fees" to upload the billing entries and costs, nothing happens and therefore they can't be added to the invoices. It's frustrating that this feature doesn't work on iPad as I can do everything else on my iPad. I informed Practice Panther of the issue over a year ago, gave them technician access probably over ten times, talked to customer support on the phone repeatedly in the course of months as well as exchanged dozens of emails with multiple customer support reps - and nothing. Eventually, they failed to resolve the problem and stopped getting back to me. Notably, over a year later, the issue is still UNRESOLVED. So although I enjoy the software overall, I find their customer support inadequate and it hinders my business that I still can't add the billing entries to my invoices whenever using the software on my iPad.

When the software works, it works amazing. The issue is it works only 30% of the time.

Pros

Client portals and the ability to have certain payments be applied automatically.

Cons

The reporting system is broken, and has been for 2+ years. Getting technical support is essentially pulling teeth, there will be months (6+) without response to simple tickets after they tried to deflect and then finally acknowledged issues. Consistently claim they added the new “feature requests” when fixing a bug such as the system doing math like: $1+$2 = $4,000 when it actually is $3.00. These are not feature requests - they are bug fixes. Despite reconciling our trust account monthly - there are data errors that their system has calculated incorrectly in the past, we have shown them via bank statements etc what the problem is and what transaction it is dealing with, and 2+ years later they still haven’t fixed it. Their Zapier integrations get triggered all the time when they shouldn’t be. They blame Zapier, but it is their software triggering the automation, Zapier isn’t just randomly doing it.

Nuestra experiencia general con este sofwtare fue bastante positiva, lo utilizamos como software de facturacion y gestion de horarios en nuestra empresa, y lo estuvimos probando durante un tiempo, pero al final nos decantamos por otra alternativa, ya que nos resultaba algo caro para nuestra pequeña empresa. El software en si, funcionaba perfectamente, nos facilito mucho a la hora de facturar ya que era muy sencillo y simplemente se podia hacer con un click. Si necesitas un software de facturacion para una empresa de gran tamaño, lo recomiendo con los ojos cerrados.

Pros

Lo que mas nos ha gustado de este software es que es muy facil de usar e intuitivo, tambien nos ha gustado mucho que tiene una gran cantidad de caracteristicas y se complementa con otras herramientas, como mailchimp. Nos ha gustado mucho que lo podamos utilizar desde cualquir dispositivo, gracias a que es un sofware online.

Cons

Podria ser un poco mas economica, ya que para empresas con poca facturacion puede ser algo cara, y ademas otro punto que no nos ha gustado ha sido la tardanza del equipo de atencion al cliente para contestar dudas y/ o problemas.

PracticePanther is a great platform and you should definitely give it a good try during a free trial period. It also has Rules of Court deadline figuring if you're a Civil firm. PP has great integration with QuickBooks on-line. You can print checks directly from PP, or QB online to pay other legal vendors (Chiros, etc.)

Pros

Price - either $59/mo or $49/mo if paid the year in full. Fee to bill clients on-line: $.20 per transaction plus 1.95% Workflow customizable - Yes, you can customize the workflow on different case-types. Activity Log - easy access history. Create Contact on the fly as creating matter - easy to create a Contact during the process of creating a matter. Intake form for new clients - Yes, can put a link on your website so new clients can fill-out a new client form, and that info will auto fill into the client's PP account. Time tracking timers - you can have multiple different timers open and running at the same time and assign them. Mobile App - there is no mobile App, but the site is mobile optimized. E-file integration - there is No e-file integration. Color assignments - there are up to 6 colors that you can assign to parties & roles. Task customizable - Yes, you can customize task flows. Easy to create and merge documents - Yes, it's very easy to create and merge documents with the program. PDF-auto convert - No, it cannot auto PDF convert a document. Create documents that can merged - Yes. This program makes it easy to create documents that can be merged. Support - Yes, support seems to be free. Notify client when upload a document - Yes, you can notify a client a document gets uploaded that you want them to review or be aware of. Email syncing - very good syncing with Gmail and Outlook. Emails linked to a matter - Yes. Easy to link emails to a matter. Client Portal - Yes.

Cons

The only thing that kept me from staying with PracticePanther, is that MyCase allows you to be able to set future billing to go out to a client(s) and forget it. PracticePanther has a bit of a 'workaround' if you get the client's Visa/Debit card on file, but many times clients are uneasy giving you their card number. With Criminal Defense clients that need to make monthly (or future) payments on a retainer amount, MyCase allows you to set-up future dates where a client will be emailed a bill, which they can tap on a button and pay on-line. This is the main thing that made me go with MyCase. But if not for that, I would have stayed with either PracticePanther or Smokeball. Smokeball had/has the slickest software for being able to send emails from (either) Outlook or Gmail, and a small window at the bottom allows you to connect that email to a matter. Smokeball's software also made/makes it very easy to sync a Word document with a Client/Matter.

Practice Panther makes it easy to track time from any web browser or mobile device. Client information is easily located using the well implemented search box on every page. We are confident our data is secure and accessible, because we can export copies of our data anytime we want.

Dead simple instant deployment, and intuitive features that require little to no training.

Cons

All clients are organized as an individual person, who might be associated with a company, but to use all of the features, you need to designate an individual as the client. Invoicing by e-mail, credit card payments, and e-mail tracking don't work well when you try to make a company a client without an individual's contact information.

(continued from Cons) This sorting function for customized fields will potentially save us a lot of time. (3) Tags are great features, but the ability to sort the data using the tag is very limited. When you search using multiples tags, the software only recognize it as Tag 1 "AND" Tag 2, and gives you data that has BOTH tags. For instance, it's only "Show data that has Tag A AND Tag B". You can't do "Show me the data that has Tag A OR Tag B". You can't search data that DOES NOT have the specific tag either. If the search function in Tags was more comprehensive, it will allow users to expand the usage of tags and give users more flexibility as to how we can efficiently search the data we need. Practice Panther Tech Support has been aware of the suggestions listed above. However, there has not been any update on the progress, and we do not know if these functions will be ever available. We definitely would like to see them implemented very soon. I am open to revise this review once these functionalities become available.

Pros

This software is intuitive, easy to navigate and very user-friendly. Tech support is promptly available and they are very patient. Practice Panther continues to make improvements on the software and they listen to their customers feedback. They have fixed our issues with our calendar being very slow to load. It's fast now and working very well.

Cons

There are still room for improvement in terms of features and functions. (1) The format (layout) of the calendar is not user-friendly for mid to large firms with more than 10 employees. Everyone's events are scattered across the calendar and overlap with each other which makes difficult to identify availability for specific staff. Events are displayed with different colors assigned to each staff. It's hard to follow 10+ different colors on computer screen and it is definitely not working for staff who are color-blind. It's really difficult to see who has appointments at each hour throughout the day. We suggested to have columns for each staff so that it only takes a glance to identify who is available when, just like how calendars are in Time Matters from Lexis Nexis. (2) Sorting function for customized fields is not available unfortunately. What makes this software great is the customization you can make to fit it to your exact needs. However, customized fields are not sort-able, and without the sorting function for the customized fields, data is not as valuable and usable as it should be. As a legal administrator who manages the data and runs productivity report for legal staff, we are currently spending a lot of time downloading the information from the software to MS Excel, sorting and manipulating the data in Excel, and finally coming back to the PracticePanther to make necessary changes within the software. ### "Missed the boat"

It’s got a long way to go to meet the expectations of a multi attorney practice.

Pros

The software sure does “look” nice. But it really missed the boat on some of the more nuanced features of a law practice. For example, when applying a discount to an invoice, the discount must be applied to the total invoice (fees AND costs). Discounts cannot be applied to just the fees. Why in the world would any attorney want to apply a discount to client costs advanced on behalf of the client??? When I inquired about this, their answer was “just put in a discounted custom rate for the matter”. This response is completely unacceptable since I may only want to apply a discount to one invoice rather than all work done on the matter! This is just one small example of the half hearted attempt of this company to make a legal management software. This is just one of several problems with the “features” of the software. The timers are always so buggy. The software is just not refined at all. None of the features were well thought out. It’s like the programmers decided “Hey! This is a cool feature to add!” But never really fined tuned any of them to a fully functioning feature that could work well. They all sort of work to only about 50-60 percent functionality. It should not come as any surprise, though, since neither the founders nor anyone else on the management team has any experience in the legal industry. The company would be well served to hire some actual attorneys to advise them on how to fine tune their software to make it a truly great legal software.

Cons

The lack of any real understanding of the nuances of a legal practice by the founders and creators of the company and software.

Reason for choosing PracticePanther Legal Software

They did a good slick sales job on the front end. Again, it looks really good on the outside but once you get up under the hood, you find that it is riddled with many issues that should be obvious for a legal software to have addressed before it was ever launched. They should do an intense focus group with real attorneys who actually manage practices to talk about the issues, revamp the whole system and relaunch!
