Attorney Law Practice Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Practice Panther" August 5, 2019 4.0 In my first few months, PracticePanther has helped me become a more conscious biller (and pointed out how poorly I billed before) and recover what would have ended up being thousands of dollars in potentially lost time. Pros I LOVE that PP shows you on your dashboard how much time/flat-fees you've entered but not billed for -- when I transferred from another program, this function allowed me to recapture a few thousand dollars that I might not have noticed otherwise -- just by making it obvious how much unbilled time was just accruing, a little at a time, in my files. Also, the interface is extremely user-friendly -- the customer service is excellent, but I very rarely need it because the interface is natural and the tutorials are great. Cons Migration wasn't seamless - When a contact had more than 1 phone number, a new contact was created for each. Also, I had to re-do my invoice numbering -- invoices in PP cannot use dots, dashes, etc. (ex: you can't have an invoice "1750-March", "1750-01," or 1750.02." Like most users, I linked my Practice Panther Account to Box and my Outlook Inbox. What they failed to tell me is that if you customize your own folders within Box Desktop / Box Sync or within Outlook, Practice Panther will eventually clear all the folders and files as unrecognized because they weren't created as folders on Practice Panther. And the customer support is absolutely awful! They use email customer support by default, which essentially ends up being a tech guy sending you a link to one of their how to do it yourself pages. When something is going wrong I don't want a link. I want someone to remote into my computer and just fix it. HORRIBLE. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS SOFTWARE. IF THEY AREN'T PROTECTING IMPORTANT CLIENT FILES AND RESPONSE TO IMMEDIATE NEEDS OF THEIR USERS THEN THEN DON'T UNDERSTAND THE MARKET AND WHAT LAWYERS NEED. Pros Practice Panther is hands-down the most intuitive of the case management software out there. All of the features and functions feel like they are where they should be, and I was up and running with very little need for the support staff to hold my hand. It's replete with added features that make practicing easier. Cons There has been one instance in which the PP software double-charged my client's card. I had to do a charge back and took the loss on the fee. I heard from a couple others that the same thing had happened. However, they fixed that software problem and I have never had this issue happen again. Additionally, I do not like the numbering system, in which both contacts and matters are grouped together for the purposes of assigning a number. There should be a dual system of numbering these. May 23, 2018 5.0 Pros I just opened my own firm and had no idea how to manage my time, client list, conflicts, or billing. I was a prosecutor before and never had experience with billing. It kept me up at night worrying about how to handle this part of my practice, and so far, it has been the easiest part! I love the timer function, the bill generator, the LawPay access and benefits, and the dashboard. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the emailed bill option - and that it tells you when the client opens that bill! - and the ability to sync calendars and bank accounts. I'm very happy with this service and the attorney I office-share with can't believe this software is available for the same price she pays for her billing program, which offers much less and isn't as user-friendly or intuitive. Cons Frankly, I'm not utilizing everything because there is SO MUCH available, and that isn't on PracticePanther. Between running the business and working on cases, I haven't had enough time to really work with customer service on accessing every function with this program, but they are always available when I do have questions or want to learn a function! Users can send email from within the platform and the email will send in outlook, as well as be saved in the PP file. Similarly, emails that are received can be added by a drag and drop that resides on the Outlook side. It also has better document automation and work flows than the competitive products. Cons The dash board at the matter level could be better. All of the information is there, but one has to move from tab to tab to find it. I'd like a "status" feed at the top (with the ability to generate reports for all open matters and current status) instead of the feed that is at the bottom of the case dashboard (which we don't seem to use). It's easy to use and find what you're looking for. The interface can best be described as elegantly simple. But, interface aside, Practice Panther offers a robust set of features from time tracking, document generation, client document sharing, and a lot more. Cons PracticePanther is a major player in the case management game, but it is overpriced with what it currently offers. Partner Law Practice Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Easy Even for Me" July 20, 2021 5.0 Having begun my career at a time when I tracked my activities with handwritten notes in a hardbound red diary, I was skeptical of the service and worried whether it would be more complex and troublesome that it is worth. It has wound up that PP is completely intuitive (even for an old guy) and ever-so-much more efficient than scribbling in a journal or just keeping a spreadsheet. I'd recommend to any SME/law firm Pros PP makes it extremely easy for me to track my time, to access data such as time/fees accrued for a client to date and for the time to be exported to a bill. Seamless. Cons Sometimes it can be tricky (for me) in terms of retrieving precise slices of data across clients, but I don't go beyond the basic features of timekeeping often so my skills aren't sharp yet. It is exactly what I was looking for. I wish there one specifically for accountant but we have been able to adapt to the lingo ("Matter" versus "Engagement" for example). I also wish there were more template options. For example, I like to create email templates so I can respond more efficiently. That would be an awesome feature for PP. Pros I love the secure email feature, Matter management, and integrations with other apps. Cons I wish the e-signature feature allowed us to make changes and re-send a document. Right now, if we send a document out and the client has a problem, there is not a feature to send the document again or send a reminder to them. I also with the Intake Form was better. I thought it would be similar to Jotform, but it does not work that way at all. If I were in the Development department, that is one item I would focus on. Cons Yes, unlike Amicus, Practice Panther does not allow you to associate incoming e-mail with the respective client or client matter, a serious shortcoming. It is easy to use. I would hate to be without it. Pros I love the ease of use for conflicts checking. I love the secure client portal, as I often exchange sensitive documents with the client. I love the client notes feature and the calendaring. Cons I have had clients who could not get the secure portal to work - that may have been user error, but there are enough of them that I had to develop a back up plan. I would like to see a better overview of available features so I can decide what works best for me. I do not use most of the billing features, so I would like a way to disable that, rather than have it look like I am running a huge deficit! March 28, 2017 5.0 After spending months researching, and receiving demonstrations on, dozens of case management software options (using Capterra as a starting point), I finally decided on PracticePanther. We are now in the process of fully integrating all aspects of our practice into this software and we are continuing to find new features that will make our office more efficient. This and the customer support continually prove to me that I made the right choice. PracticePanther is easy to use and incredibly customizable. In that it is web-based, it is accessible from any computer or device with an internet connection. We use it to store all pertinent case information and contacts, and to calendar appearances, tasks, court and internal deadlines and reminders. We use the feature which allows you to create workflows so that we don't have to reinvent the wheel every time we want to establish/calendar the same set of tasks on a new matter. PracticePanther makes it easy to track time spent and expenses on all of our cases. Also, it allows all users to view and track the activity of other all other users, which minimizes the need to constantly follow up with other members of the firm regarding status of task completion. PracticePanther integrates with Box.com. So if you house your case files within Box.com you can access them directly through PracticePanther. Because of this, we are now integrating all of our files with Box.com so that we can use this feature. The prospect of having all case information, calendaring, AND the case file accessible from any device anywhere, is very exciting. There is a great feature that allows you to create fully customized intake questionnaires that can be sent to potential clients via a link. Once the potential client fills out the information it is automatically uploaded to PracticePanther. There are great demonstration videos and articles on their website which really help you to familiarize yourself with the product, although it's very easy to figure out on your own as it is extremely intuitive. However, the greatest part of PracticePanther is its customer support. It is always easy to get a hold of someone to answer your questions. Best of all is that they listen to your feedback and use it to improve upon their product with regular updates. I have seen many of my suggestions come to life in a short amount of time. I don't have to spend as much time on administrative tasks now. Pros Our favorite thing about PracticePanther is the seamless invoicing feature. We can get out professional invoices at the end of every month and get paid quickly. We would be lost without PracticePanther's invoicing feature, and the fact that it integrates with LawPay is an added bonus. We can now focus on practicing and growing our law firm and not worrying about whether or not we will get paid. Cons I think PracticePanther can improve on recognizing that a law firm might have more than one office in different cities or states. It is a workhorse and handles law offices management with ease. The fact that it is in the cloud has greatly increased our ability to go remote and mobile through this pandemic. Cons When I originally bought this software, this company was pretty new. They were very communicative and very helpful. Since they have grown, they have lost some of their customer service.
