Absolutely terrible not user friendly. We have to have cheat sheets for anything we want to do because NOTHING is obvious. And I am a highly experienced and very well educated software user. Good software doesn't require a manual or descriptions with pictures. I mean instructors can't even say in words how to do things - they have to show you in screen shots - that is how bad the software is.

Pros

It's digital - one of the very few good things about this software. You can send requests to the people that are writing recommendations - those two things are probably the only 2 good things about the software. It doesn't even seem to be able to screen out applicants from previous years in an obvious way.

Cons

Nothing and I do mean nothing is obvious in Slate. This is truly one of the worst pieces of software I have ever used. This is my second year using it and I am so grateful that my program is small. Moving things to queues and then to bins - it's all super dumb that you can't just state in plain language what you want to do with an application and have it get there. I just had to defer someone and that process was terrible. The defer documentation has to be attached to the application not the person - what? so dumb.

Admissions, great. Everything else is terrible.

Pros

Admissions side is good, that's about all.

Cons

For advising purposes at our university, Slate has been terrible. Very slow lag times, constant glitches happening, continuous issues. Everyone in our office cannot stand this software (including advisors in other offices as well).

It makes the job of evaluating applicants more difficult. It may make the job of processing applicants and collecting dataq about a group of applicants easier.

Pros

I don't like much about Slate. It does keep applications and allows people to enter things.

Cons

It does not have features that allow people to actually evaluate applications. It is more meant for people that work with databases. Very frustrating product that makes the job harder in many ways.

Pros

Slate is completely customizable, which seems daunting at first, but is incredibly freeing. It was do absolutely anything we need it to do for our office and has without a doubt allowed us to work both harder and smarter and increase numbers and results across the board.

Cons

Because it's completely customizable, the company leans hard into a community support network. This can be super helpful, but also frustrating when you need support and other schools aren't able to help. The company seems to be actively working to solve this though.

Slate gives our intuition the ability to connect with students in a timely manner and track historical data based on a variety of factors. This allows our team to "work smarter not harder."

Pros

The ability to connect with students through personalized communication is highly impact as an Admissions Counselor. My team and I are able to set up queries to pull select groups of students into messaging lists to support students throughout the admissions process. The ability to communicate with students via text is powerful as many students will respond to a quick text message over an email.

Cons

Slate can be rather particular. Having a CRM manager has a huge impact on my work on the satisfaction of my work. I cannot speak from the CRM manager perspective, as I imagine the "cons" of Slate are likely found there.

Overwhelming negative

Pros

The admission/enrollment piece is solid - we manage our scholarship program via this instance

Cons

Anything that has to do with advancement, development, fundraising, donations, constituent management, reporting, queries, communications, or money. Also, customer service is nonexistent

Overall we migrated from Salesforce and it has been smooth sailing! I couldn’t be happier and cannot even imagine us without Slate. Amazing work!

Pros

The most impactful feature on this software is the ease with pulling up data, queries and reports.

Cons

My least favorite thing is if a rule is broken it has a significant impact on the data. Although we have managed this issue better with having a small System team, it is something we keep an eye on constantly

Functional after a big learning curve, but easy after you get the hang of it, Slate is useful for the admissions process but could use a few updates to make it more user friendly.

Pros

I like that I could read the applications and score with relative ease, once I was able to locate the files.

Cons

Navigation is not easy or user intuitive. I needed help. I also was confused by the chat or social piece up top... I'm not sure why people would use an admissions app to be social. There are functions on there that I never use.

Overall positive. I love the Timeline feature, it is my favorite thing to use.

Pros

Once you have gotten used to the set up, it isn't hard to use. You get to now the best places on a student profile to find information, track their application status, etc.

Cons

It's not super intuitive. Information that is closely related can be spread apart in different places (I often have to go between the Read Appliation section, Timeline Section, and The application tab to find the info I need) But other wise I don't have many issues with it.

Pros

Slate is by far the best CRM for higher ed admissions. It's incredibly easy to use (once you get your head around some basics) and it's noticeably designed from the ground up with the admission process in mind. They're also great with customer service and have spent a lot of time cultivating a community of Slate users who all work together to make the most of the product.

Cons

Slate is long overdue for some marketing, campaign, and communications updates. Deliver is still behind other more commercial CRMs in terms of capabilities, and I'd love to see queries, reports, template communications, and events updated with an eye for easing the customer journey and streamlining communications.
