But of course it has its limits. Once you get really serious with video production, what you get with just Powtoon isn't enough. Although combining Powtoon with other tools is still a great way to make great videos faster and easier. Pros Ease of Use. You don't have to have experience. Anyone can get started making videos with just basic computer skills. Cons Enter/Exit effects are not up to speed. There's not enough flexibility with animations. And that's fine! It was great to have a 15 min intro with a product developer, who gave me lots of tips. Customer support is available of required. There are also great demo videos on the features. I am having alot of fun with Powtoon and have created several short video explainers and have had good initial feedback from managers and learners on the videos created to date. By paying for a subscription you have alot more options and it represents value for money, if you are not an expert in video creation. Pros Powtoon is a great for creating educational video explainers that can be used across diverse learners. I love the templates, and easy to use functionality, and now with all the AI tools coming on board it is helping decrease time in development and improve the quality of my videos. Cons There is nothing that I don't like. Powtoon has all the features I was looking for. The only thing I would offer in terms of feedback, is keep improving your offer and adding to your templates. Using great templates helps users to learn and have the confidence to create their own. It also inly has basic audio editing and I would loveto see a separate audio editor dashboard. Was able to adapt the powerpoint templates easily and convert into videos easily. Best working feature of Powtoon. Cons The AI generated videos were poor and inconsistent from slide to slide. Didn't move logically and consistently from slide to slide based on the narrative given eg started in a car in daytime in urban surroundings but next slide would be a different car at night in the countryside! They have good customer service so problem solving is quick. You can put your videos in folders, which helps when you have so many. I have a teacher package so cheap. You can also make powerpoint/slide shows. Cons Branding in corner of film and at end, but I get a cheaper deal because of this . Business deals don't have the branding. I have yet to deal with any person on the customer support side, we purchased the tool and onboarded completely independently and that is a testament to the UX/UI team at Powtoon. It is very straightforward and simple to use right away! Pros I liked how straightforward the use of the product was. I created 10-12 videos in a two-week span that were all ~60sec animated videos for usage in video advertising. It was very easy to learn, the platform auto-saves your progress so there's no fear of losing information, and it saves your video in whatever format you require. The templates are typically all I needed for videos, so I didn't have to start from scratch on any of my ideas. It has been a good experience and I will use the tool whenever we need to create a quick animated short! Cons The pricing was a bit confusing. We initially signed up for a base tier where we thought we'd have more functionality based on the description. When we got into the system we realized that immediately we'd need to upgrade from "Lite" to "Professional" in order to get the most out of the system and templates. We needed to remove watermarks and unlock key features, so we jumped to Pro. It wasn't outrageous to jump in price, but it was a snag as we had to get the new cost approved again internally. Cons I am frustrated with the lack of sound editing you can do on Powtoon - for example, you cannot edit voiceovers once you have recorded them. You also cannot add music to the first three slides, you have to add them separtately, which makes continuity an issue. Cons The hardest part of this product is it sometimes takes way too much time to upload images & add videos to timeline. With it you can make animations without having previous experience, you just need to drag and drop and that's it. The 2d and whiteboard animations as well as the transitions will make you love it. New layouts, fonts, images, etc. make everything really fun to use and fun for my clients to engage with. It is an easy way to inexpensively produce microlearning - added bonus that its visible without an LMS and can be used on the go. If you are experienced in Adobe Captivate, this design format would be very similar to the layers found in eLearning design - only in video layout. Cons I dont like the levels of access they make available. If you pay for it, you should have access to everything. Or, if it's not available for my level, dont put it in my design resources toolbox. If you’re familiar with PowerPoint, then it’s really easy to learn Powtoon but the result is something with a little more oomph.The presentations look very interesting and engaging with lots of nice options for backgrounds and animation. There are also pre-made templates available which look really appealing and are highly customizable. There are plenty of tutorials available on the site and they break it down into bite-sized pieces. I also love the fact that I can chat directly with their customer support for help whenever a question or issue comes up. Cons It doesn’t allow for highly collaborative work just yet, but I am certainly hoping that this is something they are working on.
