December 3, 2019 5.0 As someone who has sat through a disgusting number of meetings over the years, with countless boring presentations using some horrible template, Prezi is a breath of fresh air. The ability to make presentations beautiful, functional, and engaging is not lost on your viewers and makes meetings that much more bearable. I would highly recommend. Pros As a graphic designer-turned-executive, I really appreciate the creativity and beauty of this product. Meetings are boring enough without some stuff presentation. Prezi ads a little life into that mix with gorgeous templates and interactive motion that keeps your audience engaged. Cons It can be a little tedious to build out something complex, but it's worth it in the end. The end result is beautiful and engaging and worth the work. Pros Prezi is like PowerPoint for creatives; or at the very least takes into consideration the reality that many presentations (if not the majority) are not linear. The templates and graphics are more stunning with Prezi, as is the movement of the presentation which has the benefit of keeping your audience more engaged. Cons Designing a presentation can be challenging if you are not using the paid version, as many features are disabled. Also, Prezi does not currently support .gif images. In addition, if you are using the version of Prezi online only - you will need to ensure you have a internet connection and access to your presentation wherever you plan to present it, as Prezi will not let you download it. One of the best features is the ability to directly link a youtube video which can add to a presentation. There are several options to choose which people can view the presentation, making it secure and unavailable to people who shouldn't see it. The collaborative features make it easy to work on a presentation at the same time. Cons There is no easy offline backup of the presentation making it hard to ensure that the presentation is accessible. The user interface can become confusing for a new user as Prezi is different from other presentation creators. You have so much freedom to create/design the presentations in any way you want, and the uses of those expand so far past basic presentations. The appearance of them makes all other templates and programs borderline useless, and in fact this program surpasses all others. Cons Its confusing, and definitely NOT for the "casual user". The learning curve is steep and to take advantage of all the uses and function you almost need a college type course to learn the ins and outs. It's also more enjoyable for the viewers as they are taken on a journey that can wind and be as creative as you like, rather than a strict progression left to right through predictable pages. Cons Since you start with a big blank page, it is quite overwhelming. It's also not the primary mode of presentation in my workplace, so it requires some extra preparation before the presentation. It's not so easy to just send your presentation to someone else's computer since they probably don't have Prezi so then you have to make sure you can present off your computer. The unique and eye-catching format of Prezi keeps youth engaged. It still offers a professional look. I like how it is a single canvas (rather than separate slides) and shows a visual outline of the whole presentation and zooms into the content. There are several templates which suit any type of presentation/topic. The presentation looks extremely well done and looks as if a lot of effort was put into the product. Prezi gives visual presentations more room for creativity than a traditional powerpoint. What is also great is that no software needs to be downloaded to use Prezi, and your presentation can be accessed by simply logging in through any compatible device. Cons Prezi can be very confusing and frustrating to use for new users. Once you get used to the setup and features, it is fast and easy, however, when you first use it, it seems complicated. Unlike the industry standard Powerpoint that only handles linear progression of storyline, Prezi is built for zooming into details and then back out into the big picture. I find this form of storytelling much more engaging for the audience because it always reminds them of what the big picture idea is, which to be honest, is what audiences typically walk away remembering rather than the details. Cons Limited customization of templates. Whereas in Powerpoint, every company has customized their templates, and use Powerpoint with their own set of add-ons (e.g., Thinkcell), there isn't much of an ecosystem for Prezi and the templates are limited and predefined. The Prezi mind map style presentation also becomes cumbersome for research or data-heavy type presentations where you are better off piling all the data into a linear progression of Powerpoint slides. This method of work was easy to transmit to my students with Prezi. I began with Prezi Classics and after I tried Next and in both version I felled comfortable. Once I gave my students the guide of use, their creativity surprised me: they used videos, links, and zooming in a natural way. I consider that this way of presentations looks like more to the way we think and in consequence the way we express ourselves.
