Pros Varnish is probably the only component in the full enterprise tech stack that has never failed in 7 years, its ultra reliable, I love the hot reload of configuration to allow changes with zero disruption to existing traffic. Varnish has been known to run for more than 18 months between restarts/reboots with no performance degradation. Cons My biggest problem was figuring out to filter out the debug output to capture just the data I was interested in. It really wasn't a problem at all, its all in the documentation. Pros Varnish provides middleware between your web server and client requests. Allows to cache content from your web server. This saves allocated resources on the server. It also provides simple configuration where you can set health monitoring, content delivery technics or other useful functions. Cons It can be a little hard to lear how to use configuration file but the set up process is still easy. Also it's integration with Akamai API was a very useful tool for the same clear caching reason. Pros It's a robust product, once that is set, you can forget about it. It just works without any further interventions. Awesome management interface, very easy to use and very intuitive. Cons Not about software but about how it can be deployed. Some scripts samples can be offered in Terraform or Cloudformation to build a working cluster instead of trying to find all the intimate details by yourself and reinvent the wheel in your own image.
