### "A worthwhile upgrade for asset storage"

January 7, 2025

5.0

The overall experience has been wonderful. The onboarding team was really great and helped problem solve and set up a new and effective system.

Pros

It's hard for me to even pick! We are coming from a very limited system, so the tagging and search capabilities have been a huge time save for my team. I also love the ability to have photos in multiple albums, the upload links are great, and the system is really easy to navigate.

Cons

The portals landing pages are a little limited in design capabilities, but nothing that would make me not want to use the system.

### "It keeps all of our files safe and really does work"

June 10, 2026

5.0

Because of Canto, my computer will no longer run extremely slow due to having large files stored locally on my desktop. I no longer need to beg other departments to send me their logos.

Pros

Canto won’t be able to keep much of our collateral so I feel lucky that it does work. The facial recognition actually picked up on some people at the far end of the crowd and that was shocking. I can also make different sections or folders (parent and child) for my content. The customer support is good.

Cons

Downloading large files is very slow because there are many extra clicks needed before you can start the actual downloading process. Why doesn’t there need to be an “Upload recently” option to upload new assets into Portals?

### "Easy to use system"

March 31, 2026

3.0

Overall Canto is a nice alternative to an internal digital asset management system. For me it only really worked well for photos and graphics and not other types of media like video.

Pros

Canto gives a nice visual representation of the different photos and assets you have in your library. It is relatively easy to use and has a nice look.

Cons

Sometimes it can be hard to find exactly what you're looking for. It's nice having the visual representation but it's not the most detail orientated system.

### "The most fantastic thing about Canto is that it has all of our brand documents in one place"

February 16, 2026

5.0

Before Canto, our team had brand assets scattered all over the place (Drive, random folders, etc.) and none of us really knew what the current version of anything was. Since Canto, everything is now located in one central location, so I know that when I need a template or an image, I am accessing the most current approved version. This helps keep our brand consistent across the team as well as prevents the usage of outdated materials.

Pros

Honestly, before Canto I was spending a lot of time trying to locate the most recent versions of things like logos etc. With Canto I simply search for what I need, click on the document and I am good to go.

Cons

There are times when I will upload larger files to Canto and it seems like it will take an eternity. I will begin uploading a file and then I will get frustrated and leave for a while and come back later to find it still uploading. Also, I occasionally find the search function of Canto to be hit or miss?

### "A robust and user-friendly DAM that supports growing creative teams"

January 15, 2026

5.0

Canto has been a reliable and well-considered DAM solution. From a Head of Studio perspective, it has improved accessibility, consistency and control of brand assets across the business, while scaling comfortably as content needs grow.

Pros

Canto excels at making large, complex image libraries genuinely manageable. The search, tagging and metadata functionality is strong, which makes finding assets fast and intuitive, even across thousands of files. From a studio perspective, it’s particularly good at enabling wider teams to self-serve assets without constant oversight from design. Customer support has also been consistently responsive and helpful during onboarding and ongoing use.

Cons

Very few downsides in day-to-day use. As with any DAM, ongoing organisation and tagging require discipline, but the platform provides the right tools to do this well.

### "Great photo management"

January 7, 2026

5.0

Great overall experience. Would reccomend if you need to keep track of different clients photography for projects or if you need a personal filing system for your photography.

Pros

Fantastic image management, easy to upload and tag photos so they can be part of specific projects. Easy to use filing for multiple projects.

Cons

There isn’t much to not like, it’s easy to use and navigate, the filing is good but if you don’t file when you upload re-tagging images can be a bit annoying to do.

### "Canto - Hard to get up and running but saves you time in the long run"

June 5, 2026

4.0

Canto took a lot of work to onboard and get all of our assets loaded into but we now save time on a regular basis. it's easy to use and easy to share files between groups

Pros

our marketing team loves canto because they have control over all of our digital assets and can easily access them for different campaigns. it is easy to tag files and then later locate them with searches. It ends up saving us time.

Cons

It is pricey and took time to set up and tag all of our files. Sometimes even with consistent effort with tagging the search functionality does not work.

Canto offers structured media file management, which helped me keep a clear organization in my projects involving a lot of content.

Pros

The tool makes it easy to organize assets and access them quickly. It is especially useful for maintaining good organization over the long term.

### "Versatile and easy to use DAM with great features and product support"

November 15, 2021

5.0

The business problem that we were trying to solve with Canto was the presence of disparate data and media availability, depending on the author. Media was being shared inconsistently across the organization and needed to be accessed in various ways instead of having one standardized way of working with our digital assets. Canto has essentially solved those problems completely internally, with the added benefit of being available to be used to share assets outside of our internal team.

Pros

The features available within Canto are well designed and well implemented. We needed a solution for managing various types of digital assets for different use cases, and Canto fit the bill exactly. In addition to the great product, Canto's implementation and support teams were fantastic and helped our implementation to go extremely smoothly.

Cons

There is very little to dislike about Canto. All of the features promised to us during the sales cycle were available, and we found no "gotchas" or surprises. We could have used some more guidance about how/when to use the Portals feature, but that ended up being a minor issue in our case.

### "Easy & Straight Forward to Use - Evaluation of Integration Process Required"

May 6, 2021

4.0

The sales process was a pleasure to go through and I would rate Canto number 1 in creating an enjoyable, no pressure experience. We have other vendors that I would be happy to continue my working career never speaking again to due to their practices and lack of overall respect.

Pros

The product itself is straight forward, easy to use and fairly customizable. The tagging system works great, file storage is good (once you identify what you would like), upload links are beneficial and the portals are key for deliverable.

Cons

The configuration of SSO does not allow enough control for the administrators of this tool, it also caused quirks for administrative accounts, where one experience via login vs via SSO was different for the admins; and the system didn't recognize licenses as being used when configured via SSO. Overall, we had to disable it for the time being which is a big loss/hit to our change management process. The Style Guide tool is a great idea, but needs some work and should not be used as a deciding factor in the tool. It needs some more work and analysis on managing font, including details on using logos, etc. to be a proper style guide. It works well for corporate colours, and that's about it. Lastly, the integration process needs some evaluation on the Canto side. It is lengthy, the "integration specialists" cannot answer questions that we can figure out ourselves with ease, and it doesn't seem like there is much support or guidance. In all honesty, we could do it ourselves must faster.

### "Can be a file management blessing, if maintained properly."

September 17, 2020

4.0

Asset management with so many powerful features, they can become a burden: the learning curve is steep, even if you're doing simple tasks with the program.

Pros

Keyword tagging and album features are great and make organization so much more manageable for very large media libraries. The features offered are extensive and very comprehensive. Search filters also help users find specific files faster.

Cons

– The number of features presented all at once can be overwhelming. The home screen displays too much information, icons, and files all at once. – Multiple iterations of a design or photo file get repetitive when scrolling—A feature to identify those very similar files, then group + collapse them together would be an improvement. – Features can be easy to miss/forget with such an extensive system. - Shortcut options aren't available for the most performed actions for individual users (or organizations) - Downloads could be easier, without the extra popup screen—an option for one-click downloads.

Switched from

[Google Drive](https://www.capterra.com/p/161425/Drive/)

Google Drive offered no structural organization past folders—it was difficult to find the files needed. Keyword tagging makes a huge difference.

### "Great product at a great price!"

November 18, 2020

5.0

I priced a number of different applications including Canto. After doing a valuations on a product they narrowed it down to three, Canto being one of the three. After reviewing the other products and Canto I found that Canto provided for more capabilities it is substantially reduced cost. Canto has helped us to improve our ability to deliver contents to a very large Group of individuals within the university. This product has helped us to broaden our ability to share a message in a very powerful way.

Pros

This product helps us to deliver video in high-resolution images rapidly. In the past, this was a very time-consuming process but Canto has allowed us to create an amazing solution. As a result, we're able to deploy web and social media solutions dynamically as needed. This product helps us to deliver video and high-resolution images rapidly. Cons

It took a little bit of time to understand the structure of the software, but after going through the deployment and using it I had a better understanding of it. Some of the features related to users and permissions within subdirectories were a little challenging to understand.

Reason for choosing Canto

Canto provided a phenomenal products edit extremely competitive price. Their competitors provided similar products but a substantial increase in cost. Some of the standard features of Canto or additional features to cost even more on some of the other competitors products. I also evaluated their supports and found it to be one that was very responsive and helpful.

### "Canto is a great DAM system"

November 19, 2021

4.0

Overall, Canto is a great DAM system. The tagging (metadata) is vital as it permits clients to find assets effectively when little data is available.

Pros

\- Folder organization - Smart albums - very quick option for finding assets by their file type - Unlimited tagging of assets and Smart tags - Portals are very good for controlled sharing with other teams - Direct upload to social media sites and file storage services is very helpful - Advanced Download Options - you can crop, zoom, and adjust the image quality before download

Cons

\* The system starts to lag when loading multiple images \* Sometimes, settings can be a little confusing \* It would be great if portals could be more customizable.

Reason for choosing Canto

The price is very reasonable

### "We love Canto"

December 16, 2019

5.0

Very simple and straight forward. No surprises. Friendly and fast to respond customer service who go above and beyond to ensure we have the best user experience possible. What you see is what you get and I couldn't be happier.

Pros

It's a visual, web-based DAM that is incredibly easy to use and assessable from anywhere. Canto is incredibly fast and responsive, with all sorts of plug ins and extensions to integrate your favorite browser, file transfer site or software application (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premier). The Portals & User Permissions allow a lot of fine tuning to ensure each user or team has access to only the assets they should. The admin controls couldn't be easier to use, making managing access through the system a total breeze. The simplicity is and emphasize on clean visuals really puts Canto above most other platforms we've used or demonstrated. Highly recommend others take the time to see what Canto offers and how your company can benefit from what it does best.

Cons

I don't have any, to be honest. Though it would be nice if a standalone application for advanced management existed, similar to how the Advanced Uploader application makes uploading large batches of files easier - would be nice if I could perform backups, re-arranging assets, etc. through an application for complex tasks. It's not essential, but I would absolutely be able to leverage something like that since mass re-organizing albums and assets through a browser can be sluggish and difficult.

Reason for choosing Canto

Cleaner interface, easy to use / navigate / manage. Price and customer service.

### "Good product for the price."

July 15, 2020

4.0

Generally a good program. Doesn't always work seamlessly and in exactly the ways we would want it to, however, Canto has provided our company with important capabilities for our price point and are responsive when we have issues that arise.

Pros

\- Easy/intuitive layout and general interface that allows users to search via a search bar or through a more traditional folder layout. - Branding Customization - Customization of the tags/categories to our specifications (custom fields) - Very responsive to feature requests and program is updated with new additions frequently - Curated views allow us to "sort" our photos in an order that makes most sense within an album. - IT support is very responsive to issues. Makes sure to follow up with you to make sure things are functioning correctly.

Cons

\- Integration has been somewhat challenging figuring out how to get the searches to yield results in the specific ways we want. - Wish there were more specific/fined tuned permissions for individual users beyond the main 3 categories - Facial Recognition doesn't work that well and in fact we have stopped trying to use it. Sometimes the photos will be almost exactly the same (head shots for example) and it doesn’t recognize them as the same person or will misidentify. The interface when it comes to both applying and searching through names is also very clunky. Smart Tags – Have not been relevant for our business since most of our photos are of events not products we well. Our smart tags identify things like "human" "clothing" "accessories" which has no relevance to what people of our company will search. We end up having to go in and put in the tags manually.

Reason for choosing Canto

Price point and feature capabilities/intuitive design.

### "Canto, where have you been all my life?"

March 26, 2020

5.0

It's no exaggeration to say that Canto is My Hero right now! We finished migrating our assets and started using Canto just a few weeks before our US team was ordered to work from home due to the Coronavirus (our international team has already gone through this). I don't think we would have all been able to keep working with the product we were using before. With Canto, our domestic and international teams can work together seamlessly from anywhere. And those of us with access to domestic servers can continue to load new assets that were previously unavailable to our design team overseas. As a provider for the agriculture supply chain we are considered an "essential business" and this is becoming a very busy time for us. I'm grateful we've been able to get up and running so quickly, and that Canto is so easy to use that the learning curve is almost nonexistent. You guys rock!

Pros

The best thing about Canto is that it just works exactly the way you expect it to. Even before I went through the official training, I found it super intuitive -- easy to upload files, easy to find them again, easy to use them with a huge range of design tools (we mostly use it with Adobe Creative Suite). Version control is going to be very helpful for us. I’m also stoked that it’s so easy to customize for our workflow. And the customer service we’ve experienced so far has also been top notch -- friendly, knowledgeable, and FAST. Thanks, Canto!

Cons

Nothing yet! The default settings include a lot of options we won't need, so until we finish customizing the interface it's visually distracting to see them. Still, how can you complain about having "too many" options -- especially when it's so easy to focus in on only what you really want?

### "Easy to use, slow at times"

February 25, 2021

Pros

The best part of Canto is how easy it is to use. We add tags and put assets in a folder. But, it's easy for people who aren't using these assets every day to use the search function and find what they're looking for.

Cons

### "Canto is not the best, but better than nothing"

September 20, 2018

3.0

Canto helps our team manage thousands of photos for our business as well as share with our teams around the globe. Overall, Canto is better than nothing, but certainly the budget level service and frustrating at times. You get what you pay for.

Pros

Canto is way better than trying to sort through photos on Finder or Dropbox. You can tag images and put them in folders and search for key words. I like that you can also sort by pending/approved/rejected. It helps us keep photos organized by style, season, color, etc. I like that you can share folders with certain people.

Cons

The software is not very intuitive. The sorting by date hardly works, it is very finicky. The "zoom" boxes are more distracting than useful. Portals don't sync well. Portals should have more granular access and control. The interface is basic at best. Text runs off the screen, menus don't actually expand. Certain email providers can't get access.

### "Great tool to manage digital content"

November 18, 2021

Overall, a good experience. Canto has become a key tool for us to manage a large volume of photographic content.

Pros

Overall, Canto is easy to use. The tagging and categorisation options are extensive and have made the whole process to manage content much more efficient for our organization. The portal functionality is also a nice way for us to be able to share content with external partners.

Cons

Some of the interfaces are not so intuitive, particularly when it comes to sharing video and PDF files with external partners. It was not obvious how files could be downloaded

### "Easy to Use Digital Asset Management System"

November 12, 2018

5.0

In the past, our media library of thousands of images has been housed in folders on a server. The folders were organized by topic and date, but not easily searched if you didn't know specifics of what you were looking for. Image search and sharing was falling heavily on two people. It was also difficult to share large batches of images, as some of the files are quite large. We have been relying on Dropbox, but it was difficult to track who had shared what images. Canto has made our media library much more accessible to internal and external clients. It's much easier to share images and allows users to size images as needed before they even download them. We also have plans to load print-on-demand and template files into our DAM. Being able to the current versions of files in an easy to access portal will be huge for keeping our brand consistent. We do have some brand assets loaded into the DAM and it has already been a big time saver with the ease that we are able to share those assets as requests come in.

Pros

The part that I like the most about Canto was the ease of getting started. After watching a webinar and an initial training session for the admin area, I was able to set up and customize our DAM immediately. The additional training for users was great as well. But the software is very user friendly and easy to use overall. Customer service is outstanding also.

Cons

Some of the more advanced features (portal creation and integrations with design programs) aren't as clearly explained or touched on in initial trainings.
