September 11, 2017 4.0 Externally, we have deeper trust from our customers - we had a superior solution for their asset issues. Internally it keeps everything at our fingertips. Pros The desktop application meets all of our internal needs. The web client is also excellent and has been liberating when working remote. My organization has to work with many different DAM systems from many different customers and Canto by far stands apart from the crowd. Cons Portals was released way before it was ready for primetime. It has been nothing short of a struggle trying to help the customers we cut over from Sites. Subsequent releases did fix the issues but not being able to tell me customer when the fixes are going to happen was frustrating. Review Source MB Mark B. Pros Canto put our photos into the hands of the designers very quickly. The photo selection process was a very time-consuming task, with a very high level of specific domain knowledge needed to even find a photo on the network drive. Canto's public portal system has enabled us to very quickly build "sets" of photos and distribute them to the field staff that needs them. The templating system has been absolute gold for distributing customizable images for locized social media campaigns. Cons We have struggled to find a way to add instructions or "how to use the files in this portal" without resorting to adding a ReadMe file. Pros I like that it streamlines the whole process. No more gunked up inboxes and confusing emails. Cons It can be a little slow and clunky when you're trying to search for something on a deadline. We use for catalog image management but often share those assets across other channels so someone working on an email campaign can quickly find all images in a particular furniture collection. Cons Integration with Indesign, really touchy sometimes, that I can't set to overwrite files if someone uploads an image that is already there it saves a s a new version versus overwriting, should have option. The ability to streamline process, locate and find assets, as well as keeping version control of each asset so that there is always the current one. Most organizations spend a large amount of time communicating assets. Pros The ease of use, the ability to manage, share and organize media and content. Image and media processing is smooth and detailed. User management has made it easy to deploy. Cons Different server configurations, having to go from Dev to production process is a little difficult. overall backup and migration process. No longer do we have to manually search multiple servers and drives to find what we need. Pros The search feature is fantastic. We also love that all of the entities across our company can access the assets we have put into Flight. Cons The duplicate search needs to be enhanced. We were quickly up and running and able to provide a professional looking and powerful portal to give accessibility of our digital assets to our dealer network. Pros We were drawn to the clean simple interface. It has a non-intimidating face, but very powerful features. Cons A disappointement that we found with almost all DAMs that we looked at was that InDesign files and it's links did not keep their connection once uploaded into Canto. This saves us time emailing stuff to each other and enables us to get our jobs done more efficiently. Pros Canto is great for companies like the one I work for - we have multiple hotels under multiple chains and being able to access all our media under one account is ideal. It is really beneficial for marketing agencies and those who need to share and have access to photos for their company. Sharing within and outside the company is a breeze. It's great to create folders for specific projects and allow specific permissions for vendor or contractor use. Pros I really like how Canto is so user-friendly and how we can communicate across teams right within the program. If someone is in need of an edit or a different size/format they can just tag me in the image and leave me a note that gets emailed to me to complete. It really facilitates the independent ability to find and use the assets within our company. Cons I have nothing that I would change and the customer service is excellent! Reason for choosing Canto Excellent customer service and help with setting up the taxonomy. Canto also provides annual check-ins and is always open to new ideas or improvements. The tools and options for organizing seem endless and they seem to have thought of everything. Pros The search ability of Canto is one of its best features. Once you have your files organized and tagged you can easily do a search and find exactly what you need visually. This is compared to searching and searching manually through folders on your computer or cloud trying to find something. Cons Uploading large amounts of files that are currently in folders can get pretty messy and it still takes a good amount of work to get things organized on the front end. There is also a learning curve with understanding how best to organize files best in the system. Reason for choosing Canto Canto is almost in a category on its own and what it does was perfect for what we need. Marketing Director Events Services Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Good DAM software" December 13, 2019 5.0 Its good for what it does and the cost associated with it. Its robust and works well for our needs. Pros We compared Canto to others in the Digital Asset Management software market and found it to be the most robust for the lowest cost. It handles pretty much everything for us photo/video wise. We like the tagging/keyword search ability and the ability to bucket and segment media. Cons It cannot handle vector art, which I found surprising. You can use vector art, but it needs to be in the "Brand" portal and not in your main library. The cost per user is a little bit over the top. We had to scale back our users as we only need people downloading images, not managing it. I have had many bugs uploading massive files (upwards of 100+ at a time) and the keywords/tags I put in the main upload screen did not come across. When I opened a ticket for this, support basically said "We can't recreate the problem" and left it at that. They wanted ME to make a video, and frankly im to busy to troublehsoot their system for them, they should not have put that back on me. The issue still stands to this day. We did our own setup and migration of more than 100,000 images and that was not as challenging as it sounds like it should be. Customer service was very responsive during the transition (and continue to be). Cons The most challenging thing for us was that there were not many use cases of how other universities use Canto to manage large digital assets, and how to set up the folder structure best. As a result, I'm not sure we are completely optimizing what Canto can do for us, but I have a call next week with our rep to review where we are and what we can do to improve. Review Source Shawn M. Our team has never been more organized in asset sharing! Pros This has been really helpful for our team. In the past, our assets for each area of the business lived in different places. This has changed this tremendously, and our team and external partners now always have access to the most up to date assets. Cons More flexibility on how folders are displayed. Everything is easily organized and accessible to your team internally but it's also so easy to share files and photos externally with easy link creation and download options. Cons When tagging large numbers of photos, if you select and tag only two or more photos when exiting back out of the edit data option canto automatically re-scrolls back to the beginning of all the images. June 21, 2018 5.0 It organized all of our digital assets so we can actually find things ourselves, without slowing down the designers. Pros Canto makes it so easy to find what you're looking for. We used to have an on-site server holding terrabytes of files, everything from photos to design files. We'd tried to organize it several different times and just never gotten very far, and the folder structure mostly lived in 1 or 2 people's heads, so we were constantly asking designers where files were. Now, we can just search and find things ourselves. Even browsing is so lightning-fast compared to waiting for terrabytes of thumbnails to load on our old Windows server. And the tags have been a game-changer. Suddenly we don't have to remember what we named a file; the tags will find things for us. It's incredible. Cons Unlike competitors, Canto basically gives you the software and a little minor training and lets you have at it. We felt like we could have really made use of their expertise to help set up folders and tags more strictly so we don't eventually run into an overtagging mess. Pros I was in charge of transfering several terabytes of data to Canto and the one feature that saved me tons of time was canto connect app which enabled me to batch upload terabytes of data overnight. Pros For us, it boils down to ease of use. Our entire company uses this software to view, upload and share content and there is very little need to train employees on its functionality. Cons I wish it could help us to identify and remove duplicates more easily. I also wish it was mandatory to include image tags, possibly even a predetermined set of image tags so images can always be saved to the correct location and thus be more easily found/searched for. Canto helps us a lot here. Not just because of the linking, tagging and user integrating. Canto gave us more time for other things to do!
