Marketing Coordinator Construction Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "A Designer's Nightmare" September 17, 2020 2.0 The product is easy to use if you simply want to store and share photos, but if you are using it to store photos to be used in marketing materials - it is a headache. Pros The ability to tag and sort photos individually. Cons Canto is advertised as easy to use for designers, and it is terrible. We have two designers that will work in files and we cannot view the photos that each other put in the files through the Canto Connector in Adobe. The extension always disappears from our extensions, and it has to be cleared out of our computer which leaves all of our documents with missing links. Canto Flight puts it all in once place where we (in Marketing) can control what institutional images are used and how. Pros It is a robust, well-thought-out tool with a lot of bells and whistles for the money. Cons Nothing. I like all of it. It's helping me push assets out to the rest of campus, as their need for digital materials has increased overnight. So far all of our users are using it with ease. Customer care executive \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] has been great in answering all our questions and getting us where we need to be in good timing. Pros All the millions of features we can set up on the admin end to get what we need from contributors, and to create an easy experience for our users. Cons There are quite a few things that I feel like I should be able to do on-the-spot, but you have to go to some other place within Canto to achieve it (usually settings). Would love to see some of that streamlined, but I don't develop software - so I don't know how easy or possible that would actually be. It feels a bit like the Adobe add-on is kind of a secondary priority, could use a bit more support and information about that, and the instructions could be more detailed. We now have over 8000 files stored in Canto. For a smaller business, this has been revolutionary! Pros This software is easy to use, both from the upload side of things and from the finding and download side of things. It is super easy to share with coworkers and partners. I would be hard pressed to imagine ever going back to a time when we didn't use Canto for our image storage and organizational needs. Cons Downloading single, a selection, or all images in a shared gallery link is not intuitive for individuals who do not use Canto on a daily basis. December 12, 2019 4.0 Pros There are so many features that it can accommodate a variety of users. Where I use certain features, someone else on our team likes to use another. Cons There is a small learning curve but once you understand it becomes easy. The biggest con in my opinion is the layout of some of the features (settings, menus, etc.). Other workers can easily log on and find whatever asset they are looking for. Pros What I like most about canto is how easy it is for me to upload my digital assets and share them with coworkers. Our company has remote employees and other companies under the umbrella. It's nice to be able to send them over to canto to get the file or even log in themselves and search for it (great search function and tagging abilities). It beats the old slower drive we were sharing before. I have not run into any problems since we started using canto at our company. Cons Such a small detail. I just don't like that you can only upload files to albums and not folders. I feel like we normally uplaod files to folders. It's so minor. really hard to find anything to complain about. We have only recently started using it in the last year so are still working on uploading more images and tagging with keywords, but it does make it easier and faster to share images and templates with our clients. Pros Canto has great folder and organizational structure that keeps everything easy to navigate. You can set permissions on who can/can't see the folder, create outward-facing folders and public links, and easily share all of it. There's a templating function that is really great as well that helps us stay on brand. Cons Some of the interface feels a little clunky/non-intuitive. Especially for the templating portion, the creation/upload of templates doesn't feel very intuitive. It's an easy process, but you do have to do it a few times to get the hang of it. I have been told from the admins on the account that creating the outward-facing links and albums is a little clunky as well, but once it's set up, it's easy to share and add to. During implementation, teams should consider how assets will be used inside and outside the organization. Our university has approximately 5000 faculty and staff. We needed a way to share a curated public library with the general campus community and also allow stakeholders special access to a larger group of assets. The consumer and contributor roles solved this for us. Pros User interface is intuitive. Ability to drill down keywords and tags in the search function is great. Facial recognition. Cons Phone/Tablet interface can be buggy and lack some features the desktop version has Enlarged previews are low resolution which can make judging sharpness of an image difficult. No previous screen/back button. Pressing back on the web browser reloads the page loosing your place in the library. Reason for choosing Canto User interface is intuitive. They have many add-ons that introduce a higher level of digital access management software. Navigation on the site is simple but effective, especially for those using it that may not be as computer savy. Love it! Pros Very easy to use and setup. Navigation is simple, as administrator functionality is easy and simple. Cons Needs more functionality when setting up the Style Guide, in particular working with process and spot colours. Pros The product is really quick to set-up and provides instant connection between other document management tools such as Dropbox. Having looked around at a lot of other solutions, Canto provided all the functionality we needed at a price that is far more consistent with cloud-based tools! Cons Having used the system extensively over the last few months, the only criticism we would mention would be some of the automated connections - for example our Dropbox connection often stalls when refreshing. September 11, 2017 3.0 Makes organizing our photo collection much easier and its great to be able to put assets into multiple categories. Building collections makes it easy to share photos. Pros Can be customized to fit most of your needs. Lots fields and options available. Search function is pretty robust. Bulk editing has been improved. Cons Cataloging large batches of photos causes system to freeze up at times. Also our servers get hung up when searching for photos-- just scrolling through a large catalog causes problems with freeze ups. Permissions can be difficult to figure out since some are set up on the back end-- things aren't alway what they appear to be. Pros I use Flight for work at a hotel marketing company, and I love Flight's differentiation between folders and galleries, and the smart options for quickly searching and pulling images. Cons I wish that I could quickly create and send permanent links for entire folders, instead of the requirement to create links gallery by gallery. Not only does our home office use it internally, we also provide the access to our franchisees so they can look up marketing materials that best address their needs. It's most convenient when it comes to different marketing campaigns since all the items could be categorized and sorted by folders. September 11, 2017 4.0 Externally, we have deeper trust from our customers - we had a superior solution for their asset issues. Internally it keeps everything at our fingertips. Pros The desktop application meets all of our internal needs. The web client is also excellent and has been liberating when working remote. My organization has to work with many different DAM systems from many different customers and Canto by far stands apart from the crowd. Cons Portals was released way before it was ready for primetime. It has been nothing short of a struggle trying to help the customers we cut over from Sites. Pros Canto put our photos into the hands of the designers very quickly. The photo selection process was a very time-consuming task, with a very high level of specific domain knowledge needed to even find a photo on the network drive. Canto's public portal system has enabled us to very quickly build "sets" of photos and distribute them to the field staff that needs them. The templating system has been absolute gold for distributing customizable images for locized social media campaigns. Cons We have struggled to find a way to add instructions or "how to use the files in this portal" without resorting to adding a ReadMe file.
