Pros: I love that Flight is easy to use and fairly intuitive. We have a wide range of techinical abilities within the staff and I'm proud to say that Flight hasn't scared anyone.

Cons: It's a bit clunky when you have to download a photo to use it. Streamlining the process may help. Other than that it's very good.

Pros: The ability to share with clients and quickly identify and access images. I like the ability to have subfolders/categories for project organization, plus the ability to get the image details for all images at a glance.

Cons: Have had some issues with client access. Not able to view library however, when we 've contacted support, they resolved the issues the same day. We've also had various isses internally logging in.

Pros: Ease of use, simple design and layout, great customer service from the Canto team. Always willing to consider updates that solve our questions and concerns.

Cons: Occasional problems with custom fonts and image rendering. Most of our issues are related to unexpected software functions but most are easily resolved once we're familiar with how it works.

Overall: All of our assets in one place - a very easy to use platform with plenty of options and features.

Pros: I can easily search through thousands of assets to find exactly what I need. I never need to take more than 5 minutes to search/download any asset.

Pros: The search function, which is essential for finding just the right photo across multiple collections. The visual display of the collection is also excellent.

Cons: Complexity of assigning keywords, for example, you can add multiple keywords when uploading files - which is good - but getting back into the file and then customizing additional keywords becomes tedious. Because of the length of time involved, our person assigned to uploading photos never seems to have enough time to go back into the file, which can limits the results of a search.

Overall: Access to our library of photos. We have a lot of new photos that are used for various projects throughout the year. Often these would get uploaded, but our previous software made searching through these slow and painful. When we switched to Flight, our life as designers got easier.

Pros: Canto is easy and intuitive to use. My favorite feature is the ability to create public links to content, completely removing the need for FTP or Google Drive experiences with vendors or partners.

Cons: As anyone knows, the heavy lifting with any digital asset manager is in the setup. Luckily we had a plan and good partners.

Pros: - easy, reliable mass uploading tools
- auto-tags and sorts files into usable groups
- ability to pull in meta-data from photo files
- ability for all users to edit and crop photos and videos

Cons: - a web application so it is dependent on internet speed
- requires a little management time to review and assist a large number of users

Overall: The ability to house all of the organization's digital assets in one place is the main benefit. One strength of Canto is the ability to then set permissions and to organize assets into groups and folders so that they can be found easily by the departments that own them. Canto also gave users without design software the ability to crop and edit photos and videos for the first time. Our graphic designer no longer has to take time to grab video clips or to resize photos.

Pros: We have a lot of events throughout the year and a lot of donors we need to tag in photos, this software helps us keep everything extremely organized. Its tagging and searching a breeze, and the sharing permissions make it easy for us to share select photos with our clients. Overall great features and would recommend!

Cons: I wish the thumbnails would load faster, it can be slow to scroll through a bunch of photos at once.

Pros: Easy to use, ability to assign meta data to make assets super easy to find.
We use for catalog image management but often share those assets across other channels so someone working on an email campaign can quickly find all images in a particular furniture collection.

Pros: I like how intuitive the search feature is; our archive is set up to where all keyword associated with any folder a photo is in will be found in a search.

Cons: Currently we are installing the Cumulus Client on each individual computer as needed, so few people have access to the archive. However, this may be an inefficient way it was organized before I started at this org.

Overall: I can provide digital assets to any employee across 13 states as quickly as possible, which helps them do their jobs efficiently too. Coworkers in other states often comment on how quickly we can supply them with dozens of photos for a project

Pros: There are several things I like about this software. 1) Capability to create custom metadata for my files. 2) Ability to search text in documents. 3) Ability to tag files to several different categories (folders) without creating duplicate files. 4) Drag and drop files into categories. 5) Capability to create customized catalogs. 6) Ability to search in multiple fields. 7) Large size limit for uploading files.

Cons: I use the enterprise vault and uploading files can be time consuming. This problem is related to internet speed and local firewalls.

Overall: The software provides a great way to organize, store, and access files in a central location available to everyone in the company. Searching is easy with capability to customize metadata to each asset. Visual thumbnails provides another easy and quick way to find records.

Pros: What I like most is that I can access my digital assets from anywhere. The private sharing portals are a safe and simple way to share your assets with outside sources.

Cons: I haven't worked with the product long enough to really develop any strong cons. If anything, the API piece to connect to your company infrastructure needs to be a little clearer on how it works for the average non-IT department user.

Pros: It's relatively simple software and the installation and upgrade process is pretty straight forward. The desktop clients are very powerful and easy to use.

Pros: Flight is easy to use and has many options for all levels of use. Cons: Wish Flight had facial recognition for tagging. We have thousands of photos to tag and this feature could help identify people and save hours and hours of time.

Pros: The simplicity of the design makes it feel incredibly streamlined. Being able to connect to other Cloud-based storage is very helpful. As a milennial, I find it incredibly user-friendly & intuitive (though my older coworkers still have trouble).

Cons: The search functionality is limiting & easily the hardest process to teach/explain to less savvy coworkers. I would love to see an 'advanced search' feature to search within specific folders, with combined terms, etc. without those different terms being confused in the search.

Overall: As a photo database, it is incredibly streamlined & easy to use. We have multiple departments that need access to our photo cache & because it is so streamlined, it is very easy to train other users on best practices for using this product quickly, which makes the database easy to maintain with little oversight.

Pros: I love the fact that I can easily access images approved for use by my company for marketing purposes. I'm a remote worker, so being able to use Flight makes it so much easier to get what I need quickly. I also love the comments feature - that way I can comment where and when I've used a picture.

Cons: I wish I could open the images in a new tab, while keeping the list of thumbnails open in a separate tab. Looking at the larger pictures would be easier this way, and then I wouldn't have to go back and scroll though the thumbnails again if it wasn't the image I wanted to use.

Pros: I really enjoy Flight's user interface the best. It has been extremely easy for all employees in our company to quickly learn the ins and outs in a short period of time. I have received many compliments from employees spread across various departments about how much they enjoy Flight and how easy it is to use.

This has greatly increased productivity of our marketing department by allowing other employees easy access to our assets. I also love the tagging feature! Tagging our location photography with our product numbers has been a game changer!

Cons: Flight includes a feature that allows users to download high res images as 72 dpi jpg files - which is a great feature. The only downfall is that you can only do this one photo at a time. It would be nice to be able to bulk download as 72 dpi jpgs.

Overall: Productivity of the marketing department has greatly increased. Flight has allowed company employees easy access to our images. Flight's great search function and organization has allowed us to quickly access the files we need. Our old image management system was the complete opposite of Flight and very difficult to use.

Pros: Having one reliable spot for all images and assets. Plus the ability to tag images and use search to find what we're looking for quickly. Love freeing up our servers and having all this hosted reliably elsewhere and accessible from anywhere.

Cons: Just getting team to get on board initially and working through the best organizational setup for our needs. Learning to share with our partner agencies and other departments involved a learning curve. Some features/abilities we want were not available (but they release new, useful updates regularly!).

Overall: Ease of using our large amount of visual assets.

Pros: Super easy to use, I barely even need to "train" colleagues with how to use, it's actually easier to just let people look around on the site for 2 minutes as it's so intuitive. I have been able to keep over 10K detailed, rare photos organized, located, shared, and clean in terms of duplicates and low/high res files. What I like most is the people though, the attention we got felt like the same as if we were NASA signing up, they took our project seriously and helped us baby the starting of the program right through to checking in from time to time.

Cons: There are a few little keystroke things but when Flight gets updated it seems like the engineers are on the right tracks as things improve all the time. There could be improvements with searchability, for example being able to have the drop down menu when inputting a tag come up with JOHN SMITH when I start with S and not just when I start typing J.

Overall: Over 10,0000 images in our library searchable at the stroke of a button. Priceless!

Pros: the tagging system allows for easy search-ability. folders and albums allow for organization efficiency. the plug-in with In-Design makes it possible to easily connect documents and files with flight.

Cons: the way that tags are done could be streamlined so that users could "apply all" to certain assets rather than retyping the tags over again. another option to highlight images that you would like to go back in look at could be useful (there is something like this currently, however, the assets are all in a giant folder and you cannot make further distinctions between files)

Overall: The software streamlines communications across the companies and offers easy search-ablity for anyone using the software.

Pros: The software does what it promises. You can tag assets and search for them easily. This software can potentially save your organization a lot of time.

Cons: Customer service / technical support has been frustrating to work with at times, other times they've been helpful. I've called in to Canto before and had one of the reps that answered the phone tell me that they don't have a tech support team, the rep was very unhelpful. Other times I've called in to explain the scenario that I'm experiencing and the customer service rep will then have you fill out a support ticket explaining what you just explained to them over the phone. It would be much easier to just call the rep and have them take over the support ticket entirely. If the team revises their support process, I would be very satisfied.

Pros: I started using Flight for myself to keep the assets I was using organized and then introduced it to my team when we started looking for a DAM. I love that we have multiple options for sharing files with others depending on what our needs are. The support team at Flight is great and is willing to speak with us directly to correct any issues we are having. They are always willing to listen when we are looking for additional functionality.

Cons: This is mostly user error, but we did not nail the organization down as well as we should have in the beginning and have struggled to rectify that. The search is good enough that we can usually still find what we are looking for but wish that the overall organization was better.

After initial start-up challenges, Canto has remained stable and support has improved.

Pros: Canto seems to be simple enough for even unexperienced users. It is clearly structured and all functions are easy to spot and use.

Cons: For a software that was recently developed it seems rather simple in style and function: we only received what we specifically asked for and there is nothing wrong with it but a bit of innovation goes a long way. Why not connect it with actual folders on our operating system Microsoft Windows like Dropbox: At some point, we will need to store all files somewhere anyway to upload them to Canto, why not allow a direct uplad from a designated folder windows without having to open the browser?

Make that folder accessable via FTP connection, too to have backup access when Canto is down or when there is a browser problem.

Image previews and navigating through Canto should easier: navigating through it takes time, sometimes you might select a wrong image due to bad visibility of small thumbnails and even going back one step wastes precious time due to loading time and selecting a new image.

I would suggest a slide show feature like the standard picture viewer in Microsoft Windows. Same goes for Video previews.

I like working with Canto but it always feels like we are working with a beta version, waiting for the shiny real thing to arrive.

Overall: Canto enables me to grant file access to many of our departments world wide.

The software is easy to use, but sometimes Canto gets down for some time.

Pros: Easy to find the items you need. You can add so many different items into Canto and it can meet many users needs and easy to customize for their needs.

Cons: Customizing Sites is tedious and should be made easier. I was disappointed when a few upgrades didn't have many changes to how Sites could be modified.

Overall: Preserving our assets for history and to provide easy access to customer requests for pictures on events or publications and presentations. Storage of the assets in one place and reduce the copies on the network.

Pros: The software is able to keep our data organized and provides us with a quick way to view and sort very large image files. Our database has grown exponentially since we have been using Canto and the software has been capable of handling everything we have added without slowing down at all.

Cons: I have had negative experiences with customer support and, as a non-profit arts organization, the cost of the product is a big challenge for us. Despite having paid annual fees for maintenance, some of the kinks in the software have warranted additional fees to get resolved. Most of the customer support team has exhibited very limited technical knowledge and troubleshooting with them has been a huge challenge.

Overall: Ability to search, access, organize and view large image files quickly.

Pros: It is designed for image files and it manages those well. It's pretty intuitive for the end user to figure out how to perform the basic functions. 99% of the time it has been rock solid for us.

Cons: 1-The interface has changed very little over the 15+ years we've been using it. It seems dated, although it is functional.
2-Server software install is too complex. I don't like having a bug introduced by a software upgrade and then having to pay to have Modula4 help us install the fix.
3-Web Solutions are lacking. We pay Modula4 to use their web interface because Canto's solution is lacking in UI appearance and functionality.

Overall: I manage dynamic photo collections for multiple organizations with staff spread across the US, Europe and Asia. This has been a good solution for providing that staff with access to their event images.

Pros: The customizable catalog settings is my favorite part of Canto. These preferences are easy to use, very customizable, and span all of my cataloging needs. It allows Canto to grow with our business needs. It's also endlessly helpful to have many different record views, and also the ability to send collection links.

Cons: The reporting tools with Canto could use improvement. They're not totally trustworthy for more complex searching and reporting, so we'll usually need to use external tools. For basic reporting they work OK.

Pros: Can be customized to fit most of your needs. Lots fields and options available. Search function is pretty robust. Bulk editing has been improved.

Cons: Cataloging large batches of photos causes system to freeze up at times. Also our servers get hung up when searching for photos-- just scrolling through a large catalog causes problems with freeze ups. Permissions can be difficult to figure out since some are set up on the back end-- things aren't alway what they appear to be. Menus aren't that intuitive- many users have problems finding where to go to fix an issue.

Cons: There are some really odd quirks about it on the web end of serving things up and having to restart Tomcat service and do some really frustrating hoops in setup is a thing, but if you have good support it's all good stuff and the thing is rock solid afterwards. Initial setup of DAMs is frustrating if you don't live in it, but as said in the pros area of my review it is far better than your other options out there (Extensis Portfolio and Esko's MediaBeacon would be the other two you would look at when going for DAM solutions).

Gonna note that the reason I tossed the three stars out there on customer support is that it's a product supported by third party resellers, which is totally understandable

Overall: I'm not really sure if you are asking me for a meta review of Capterra as a product or Canto but I would say if it seems like it would fit you definitely go into it. You'll find that with Portfolio you'll be searched based and the customizations are there, but it falls short on some key things Canto can have and that's namely that you can bucket everything into orderly categories that make it really easy for the end user to get at. MediaBeacon is also search based and absolutely infuriating to use. If you don't expect your end user to know what they are looking for before they go into it, you'll want Canto.

Overall: I am a reseller

Pros: Very few help desk tickets. It works as it should. I am not a daily user of the software, but appreciate that it is stable and not a resource hog.

Cons: More "easy start" guidance using advanced features would be nice. I would like our power users to be able to figure this stuff out with less hand holding.

We have been using Canto for over 7 years. We use it to house our university images.

Pros: The best part about Canto is that is has a lot of functionalities and features. You can customize many options.

Cons: The software can be very complicated to use and customer support isn't very helpful unless you pay extra.

Pros: The desktop application meets all of our internal needs. The web client is also excellent and has been liberating when working remote. My organization has to work with many different DAM systems from many different customers and Canto by far stands apart from the crowd.

Cons: Portals was released way before it was ready for primetime. It has been nothing short of a struggle trying to help the customers we cut over from Sites. Subsequent releases did fix the issues but not being able to tell me customer when the fixes are going to happen was frustrating.

Overall: Externally, we have deeper trust from our customers - we had a superior solution for their asset issues. Internally it keeps everything at our fingertips.

We use Canto to house all of our publishing PDFs and Image Catalogs for the past 10 years.

Pros: We like the customer service, the stability of the product and our ability to customize it to fit our ever-changing needs as a company. Canto grows with us instead of us "outgrowing" the product.

Cons: We have noticed some features that we have used disappear with new updates and we would like to be made more aware of what changes will happen with new updates. Half of our company also uses the web version of Canto and we would like to see the features of SITES improve to mirror the benefits we see with the native client.

Overall: Ease of use and ability to customize.

Pros: customer support is pretty good, and they can work with you on your needs. they moved us to Azure in hopes that would resolve the issue, and did so in an efficient manner

Pros: General user interface is mostly intuitive for people who don't have experience with DAM systems. The ability to add other custom extensions and customize the various ways to get to the system.

Cons: Its expensive and the lack of custom reporting features really poses challenges for business management. There seems to be a high amount of turnover at Canto that can pose difficulties providing a seamless customer service experience.

Pros: Flight by Canto is a great value relative to other competing products. It gets you most of the way there while competitors want to charge over 3x to do the same thing.

Cons: The interface takes some getting used to. UX can be a lot better. It's not completely intuitive, but Canto is always releasing updates and new features, which makes it better all the time.

Comments: I like using Canto Flight due to the global nature of our organization. It allow us to easily and quickly share high res images across the organization, even though we are on different continents. I also like the fact that we can load preliminary assets for review that others cant see until we have approved their usage, or made the necessary editing first. Sending links instead of images helps prevent email bounce backs and jamming other people's inboxes

Comments: Since using Canto Digital Asset Management tool we have been able to maintain and organize all our digital files with ease. Finally we can easily find and sort through thousands of files to find what we need, share with external clients without worry about space limitations and have freelance/volunteer photographers directly upload their material to the tool. It has been great to use!

Pros: The ability to organize our digital assets with albums and have the ability to filter, sort, and search makes it easier to find the files we're looking for.

Cons: Being cloud-based scares me a bit since we have several terabytes of data, but so far access to the data is great.

Overall: The ability to organize our digital assets with albums and have the ability to filter, sort, and search makes it easier to find the files we're looking for.

Recommendations to other buyers: We can access Flight from mobile devices, which comes in handy during off-site meetings. The ability to add Metadata and Custom Fields to further organize the files is outstanding. Being that we are a supplier of generic hard goods, the ability to create branded portals is essential for that "Whitebox" experience for our distribution customers who want to use our assets with their customers.

Overall: I was very new (okay a complete novice) to world of digital asset management. I went through several demos from several different companies and Flight was the first one that seemed to meet all my needs now and seemed to be poised to meet any future needs I might have. From the sales person to my account representative, everyone at Canto has been very helpful and has responded very quickly when I've needed help or just had a question. Although I am still in the asset loading phase of this journey, I am very confident that Flight will work perfectly as my company's Digital Asset Management solution and that I will be knowledgeable enough (with the help of my people at Canto) to manage all of our digital assets through Flight.

Pros: Large amount of storage space, multiple download and sharing options, ability to tag assets with keywords.

Cons: Slow to upload (slow overall), the ever-changing interface (making our tediously-made "how to" guides for staff quickly irrelevant).

Overall: Before using Canto Flight, we had a huge photo storage problem. We are a K-12 school in the Bay Area with approximately 2,500 students. Having 3 campuses with a plethora of photos being taken at events and marketing photo shoots, we needed a solution that could store a large number of photos, be accessible off-campus (our old system was uploading all of the photos to an on-campus server), and that was easy for our staff to use. Canto met all of our needs! We currently have over 33,000 photos, 100 videos, and 1,000 documents stored, with over 2,000 GB (yes that's right, Gigabits) left of storage. The cloud system makes it easy for our photographers to upload photos and for us to access them without having to be on campus. Though the interface has gone through multiple changes (which has made it hard to train less-computer savvy staff), overall it's a pretty instinctual interface. Additionally, the Canto representatives have always been quick to respond with any issues that have arisen.

Comments: As a marketing team, we are needy. We require an intuitive content management system that our creative and analytical partners can operate efficiently, and Canto Flight has done just that. It is easy to manage the organization of content and visually appealing for the "consumers" that solely extract the content. Great platform, overall! My only complaint is that it can run slow sometimes, especially as more and more content is added.

Comments: We have been using Canto Flight as our Data Asset Management system for the past 6 months or so. Overall, we are very pleased with it. It is easy to use and understand, and has a lot of great features. I'm not super excited about the way its lightbox feature works and I don't like how limited my user base and storage amount is for the fee we pay each month, so those are some limitations. It's a fairly expensive subscription service and the jury is still out for us whether we will ultimately be able to continue using and affording it. But for now, we're happy with it.

Cons: need to be able to view images larger before downloading

Overall: We have been using the Canto Digital Asset Management system at the Museum for years now and it has made my job as a designer considerably easier. My clients can set up gallery for to look at for photos they like and i can also review photos for multiple projects and send galleries as well. It also haas taken a huge burden off of Photography department so clients and the Design department can access photos and not bog down the photographers.

Pros: It's a standard software that allows customizing by configuring and without calling for programmers. The web interface became really powerful and facilitates workflows with external contributors, press contacts, and prospective clients.

Cons: Workgroup edition requires a costly upgrade to provide functionality for managing user groups.

Overall: Canto helped us to get back control over our assets. The first step was to replace file servers as a silo for media assets by a sophisticated catalog solution. Within Canto we could build a metadata model that really represents the structure of information we need in order to manage assets in every context. Even challenges like assuring consistency of used terminology and translating metadata could be handled by using the standard functionality of Canto.

Now we have a solid basis to meet the demands of media-enriched online marketing towards visual, social, and video networks.

Pros: - endless possibilities
- answers for every case of use

Overall: We´ve been using Canto from canto since ... 4 years in our company. The time before the organization of our marketing material was not ideal. It was a problem to exchange data from division to division (national and international) - we used memory sticks or hard disks. For me, as a windows user, it was impossible to exchange data with a mac user - because we did not use the same network. Data was outworn and there was no version control or right system. Since we use Canto this belongs to the past! The software is extremely customizable and canto reacts very fast and professional to our needs. We`ve created wonderful processes - for example between Canto and jira (a bug- und issue-tracking-system from other software) - for example between our online marketing and graphic design divisions for the creation of web pages or newsletter. I can count a lot of examples :) !!!
We use Canto in processes with external partners like design agency, freelancer, and photographers. They use the improved web client. Since we use Canto we have access to data from everywhere - this is a great advantage. We love the search function based on keywords (in any language).
Canto will be permanently enhanced - the version 9.1 has a great adobe integration. A lot of people in my company use the batch processing function. Also, the comment function is a great advantage.

We daily use it and we love it. It has improved our work!

Recommendations to other buyers: With Canto, you will not make a mistake!
