Comments: For almost 3yrs I've had the shopkeep system. I have a quick serve mom and pops bbq place. Since I've had it there has been a major flaw in their system. If 2 orders get saved at the same time(and then get sent to the kitchen printer) one order always fails in error to print. That wouldn't be a major problem if you could simply just resend the order right?! Like if there was a button to simply just resend!?! We there isn't. Nope no such feature. So what do you have to do.... void the entire order and re-enter it. Now imagine it's 5pm, busy on a Friday night and your 10 deep at each till and you have to re-enter a 12 top order that you just took individuality by each person. It a nightmare. This happens every night when we are super busy. I have put in multiple requests to shopkeep. They have opening admitted it's a flaw. They claim to be 'working on it'. They also know that any restaurant food customer they have will have this exact same problem. Almost 3yrs they have been 'working on it'. I put in requests to their tech depts multiple times per year. It's a joke they absolutely do not value restaurant customers.

Pros: Easy to use. The system seems to work with most Apple products. Cost is average at best. I'm having trouble finding anything else.

Pros: it was fairly simple to set up and use and fairly easy to train people on the system. Tech support was Ok, the folks were always nice and friendly, but they also were kneecapped by the ridiculous limitations of the program. I found it WAY more frustrating than it was worth.

PS if you do decide to go with the program (which I don't suggest), spend the time on ebay to purchase the equipment used. I saved money!! (I think you are required to use their card swiper, but that may have changed).

Cons: the reports on the back end (which you may not realize are CRUCIAL) are junk. And no matter how many times I made a suggestion, nothing ever changed. They kept sending me "satisfaction surveys" and I would write in the survey, "I don't know why I am filling this out, no one will contact me for at least 4 months!" and most times, no one EVER contacted me, even though I gave detailed information about my dissatisfaction with the product.

Even the techs in tech support were extremely frustrated with the limitations of the system. As an example, there is a way to set various tax levels (in my state, the tax on prepared food is different than regular sales tax), but then there is no way to detect how much was paid in for each tax. There was a work-around, but that took at least half an hour each month, which as most people know, is an enormous amount of time to waste for a small business owner.

I can honestly say that I was frustrated every single day for two years by the limitations of the software. I WOULD NOT recommend this program!

Overall: It "worked". I could use it as a POS, but any other feature was JUNK.

Comments: I have been a loyal customer for 5 years with 2 restaurants and Shopkeep in both restaurants and I would not but it in another shopkeep system based on the customer service that I have had recently.

Pros: Shopkeep is easy to use for anyone. The back office is helpful and provides good information. I like that you can customize the pages to fit your needs.

Cons: Shopkeep's customer service is really bad. I rarely have an issue that I need to call Shopkeep about, usually I can trouble shoot most of the issues that we have. However, when I do have a problem, the people that answer the customer service lines seem to have very little or no knowledge of their own system. The people they hire repeat things over and over instead of trying to problem solve. On one call, the person kept putting me on hold and asking someone what I was asking him and then he would get back to me. It seems as though before they try to trouble shoot they try to blame it on something else. They usually try to blame it on my internet provider before they finish hearing what my problem is. Today when I called, I asked to speak with a supervisor because the CS person didn't know how to resolve my issue. He said there was no supervisor there today. What kind of unprofessional business is this that they don't have anyone to help when the CS person can't. In addition, call wait times are ridiculously long. Lastly, there is a real problem with their system that allows employees to steal money with their void system. I have told them several times for over a year that their system should be able to produce a report for all checks that are voided. They have not considered it a priority since a year later there is still no report for voided tickets. I had an employee steal thousands of dollars from me due to Shopkeep not being able to produce a voided checks report.

It seems they have gone downhill.....

Comments: If someone asks for a call don't email. I have lots of questions and need someone knowledgeable for a few minutes to answer them all. Email is inefficient when one of your "answers" leads to more questions and you can't get responses slowly. I would love one person to take ownership of issues and be in easily reachable until the issue is resolved. I don't like having to talk to a new person every time.

Pros: The system is fairly easy to use and my new employees are able to learn it quickly. The bird's eye view is very helpful in knowing how we are doing day to day. I really like the comparisons to the same day last year and last month to see we grow month after month. I like the free MailChimp integration, They recently made a lot of updates that have made the system better and returns smoother.

Cons: It seems they are slow to implement updates, they didn't have an android phone app until recently and you can't see tons of info on it. I wish you could pull up past inventory values for specific days or time periods. The EMV capability on our card reader took well over a year to go active. The battery on the ICMP card reader dies in about 30 minutes of being unplugged not even used. You can't edit saved checks and can't do exchanges. They have a newer integration with BigCommerce that I was excited about because we already have a BC store and have to manually sync the inventory between the two. The problem is the integration isn't working with our store and they don't seem to know why. They have escalated the issue and supposedly the Q&A team is working on it but it's been over a month with no progress and it takes days for them to respond to requests for updates. They recently increased the price which is a large percentage increase. I've called service several times and asked for a manager to talk to and no one is ever available. I was told I'd get called back and one time a "lead" emailed me back and never responded to my follow-up email when I asked for a call. I then called again and asked for a manager and was told someone would call me back in 24 hours and no one ever did. I am now actively looking at other systems to replace Shopkeep because they don't call me back. I even tried to look for a regular non "800" number to call and attempt to call and speak to a supervisor but one doesn't seem to exist. I thought the customer service was good in the past but recently it has been horrible.

Comments: Shopkeep has been responsive, but: 1. Shopkeep encourages you to set up your items using in the form of "Variant" on their training videos, but then neglect to tell you that those items will not ever print on the ticket printer they sold you until you do a deep dive into their online library. 2. Shopkeep uses www.BigCommerce.com to set you up with an on-line e-commerce capacity. However, from May 29th through June 19th or so hundreds of use were unable to connect and use our E-commerce accounts because of a programming issue (like in #1) that they just weren't smart enough to handle promptly. When I asked for a refund on the $295 unusable printer...here was the response: Allen (6/22/2017, 3:14:45 PM): Thank you for contacting ShopKeep support! Give me a moment to pull up your account. Allen (6/22/2017, 3:15:39 PM): Hi Noel! It'll take me a minute to look into this, I'll get you an answer ASAP Me (6/22/2017, 3:15:50 PM): Thank you Allen (6/22/2017, 3:28:41 PM): Hey Noel, I'm still working with people on this. I haven't forgotten about you Allen (6/22/2017, 3:34:03 PM): Alright. I spoke with some of the supervisors, your sales rep, and your ShopKeep Expert. Greg confirmed that he recommended modifiers, not variants. Jeff confirmed that he didn't say that variants would work with a ticket printer. Given that the printer is more than 30 days from the date of purchase, we will not be accepting it back, per the policies laid out here: https://shop.shopkeep.com/returns Allen (6/22/2017, 3:35:03 PM): You do still have an hour with your ShopKeep Expert, Jeff, who would be more than willing to assist with transitioning to items with modifiers, and who can explain more about the printer's capabilities. There's an hour left, which would be 2 30 minute appointments. Me (6/22/2017, 3:39:23 PM): This is Theft!!! Of course he never said it would work. He never mentioned it. It is the SHOPKEEP system that is set up to suggest and recommend use of variants when you complete your set up. If you will not refund then I will consider myself wronged and review accordingly. Allen (6/22/2017, 3:43:44 PM): Noel, this is not theft. Neither the sales rep nor the SKE suggested using variants for food, because they will not print to the ticket printer. The support article clearly states that variant items will not print to a ticket printer. http://www.shopkeep.com/support/inventory-management/adding-an-item-with-variants Allen (6/22/2017, 3:44:22 PM): Your printer will print food items with modifiers, and is intended to be set up that way. Me (6/22/2017, 3:58:46 PM): THAT ARTICLE IS CLEAR AND ONLY AFTER I SPOKE WITH LAYLA LAST WEEK WAS I MADE AWARE OF THAT ARTICLE!!!! Me (6/22/2017, 3:59:31 PM): NEVER EVER BEFORE TODAY HAS ANYONE EVEN MENTIONED SUCH A THING AS MODIFIERS. RIGHT FROM THE START THE SYSTEM GUIDES YOU TO USE VARIANTS!! Allen (6/22/2017, 4:00:31 PM): Noel, Greg and Jeff both suggested modifiers, as did Ryan. The support articles were sent to you in an email before your first appointment with Jeff. Me (6/22/2017, 4:01:20 PM): NO. SENDING SOMETHING AMID A MIX OF INFO IN AN EMAIL IS NOT NOTIFICATION; IF THAT WAS DONE, TO MAKE ANY ONE AWARE THEY SHOULD NOT FOLLOW THE ADVICE OF THE SHOP KEEP SYSTEM DURING SET UP. Allen (6/22/2017, 4:06:15 PM): I'm sorry that you feel like the information wasn't clear enough. Transitioning your items to modifiers will allow the printer to print tickets for those food items. As we've stated, Jeff can help you with that during an appointment. You still have an hour of time with him available.

Pros: Available to talk to via chat at extended hours...though you wait a long time between sentences and better not have a client come in needing attention because then you will get dropped and or distracted and have to start over.

Cons: They proudly suggest you set up your store using the updates to their program (variations under each item), but then neglect to tell their staff, much less the client, that they didn't finish the programming and your ticket printer won't print ANY of these items.

Pros: Calculated sales tax correctly until latest update.

Price just changed to $69 a month which is a scam to charge for crazy sales tax errors

Cons: DO NOT USE SHOPKEEP

They have a new update to the sales tax calculations. We are a print shop and sell

.10 copies and .05 cents special paper. I rang up 500 color copies @.20 total is $100

State sales tax is 8.25%

Most people could add the sales tax in their head for this amount.....Total should be $108.25

Well guess what good ol Shopkeep says on the iPad???

$110

How can you charge a customer $110 on a $100 taxable sale at 8.25?

That is illegal to over charge a customer on sales tax.

Shopkeeps response is the engineers set up the sales tax to calc on each line item. So that means .02 cents tax which is rounded up. 500 x .02 is $10. Because Shopkeep fails to program the software better I just overcharged customer $1.75

Shopkeep has the worst customer service. They have no management and when I called to ask how to fix sales tax, they sent me to someone named Craig to cancel service. 3 days after cancelling service they will lock you out of the back office.

Shopkeep is the biggest scam to the customer ever. I set up Square account and it adds sales tax perfectly. If Shopkeep can't figure out how to calculate sales tax - why would any business use them?

I suggest every business should ring up a bunch of sample orders and watch the sales tax go wildly off.

The poor CEO of Shopkeep is going to get canned fast if he allows sales tax errors system wide.

Fix your sales tax Shopkeep!

Overall: We learned to be very careful, software isn't perfect and Shopkeep fail miserably.

Hi Kevin,

I'm on the Product team at ShopKeep and saw your feedback related to how we calculate tax. I wanted to provide a response so that you understood our stance and why this an improvement.

We've progressed from calculating tax on the subtotal to the more modern per-unit tax calculation which provides better accuracy. This is the recommendation of the Streamlined Sales Tax (SST) governing board's recommendation, which is the body that assists states to administer a simpler and more uniform sales and use tax system. The SST also states that both methods of tax accounting are acceptable, even though per-unit is preferred, as long as practiced consistently.

I hope that helps. We very much appreciate the feedback.

Best,
Hank

Pros: Clean design, easy & intuitive to learn, very stable i.e. does not crash, connectivity has never been an issue, back-office works well in its current format. Tech support always available, helpful, and willing to go the extra step to help when they do not immediately have the answer. Simplicity, meaning one is not overwhelmed with more features than one could use (and which could be rendered pointless if overall stability is a challenge). Fairly flexible layout for the iPad menus. Very straightforward to set-up, and the online resources are comprehensive. I taught myself everything in an afternoon, and staff all took to it quite easily. I have not had to spend hours and hours trying to establish functionality with a line of customers staring at me.

Cons: BackOffice reporting could be a little more comprehensive and with more user control in terms of personalization. Bulk editing and management of inventory/stock items is nice, but individual item edits can be time-consuming if one is only working on 5 items (vs. 50).

Overall: When we first transitioned from a legacy POS to an iPad-based POS, we'd gone with another product that seemed perfect. Unfortunately, that product was like buying a house and discovering a day in and day out that it was full of mold, had cracks in the foundation and other structural problems, and the repair people tasked with helping you seemed trained to make things worse. It required constant attention in order to ensure very basic functionality, crashed constantly, caused massive headaches with credit card processing, and everyone from our account rep to her bosses to "tech support" was so clueless, one could write a sitcom with the stories.

We shopped around for our replacement, making sure to ask all the questions and investigate to the best of our abilities so as not to end up in the same place. We found ShopKeep and could not be more pleased with the results. I cannot overstate how completely opposite every interaction with ShopKeep has been compared with the competitor we replaced. Every question has been answered satisfactorily, every issue dealt with (and not forgotten by an overwhelmed support crew), and every guarantee upheld. Even better, the application itself functions as advertised, so we are not spending actual hours of our time making something work; it just works. We don't experience crashing, lost data, unsolvable credit card processing nightmares, and the rare calls to tech support are quick and painless. There may not be as many back-end bells and whistles in terms of reporting and inventory, but these are always in development, and I feel comfortable saying that when these new elements are introduced they will function as described. The app is clean, intuitive to learn, easy to use, and the resources made available, detailed online instructions, videos, etc. combined with helpful, engaged, communicative staff at all levels have made ShopKeep a hero to us. If I ever notice ShopKeep being used at another business, I always make a point to ask about it and find the same enthusiastic appreciation I'm trying to convey here. (Whereas I do the same with the competitor we ditched, and always see their eyes glaze over.)

I highly recommend ShopKeep and know that users will be as satisfied as we are to have found them.

Recommendations to other buyers: Changing over to ShopKeep was so easy and such a smooth transition for us. I recommend availing oneself of the online tools and the user Forum in order to keep in touch with other users and provide feedback to ShopKeep (who is always responsive). It is very, very noticeable to work with a company that is responsive and communicative at every level. My hope is that this will always be the case with ShopKeep.

Pros: Ease of Use. This is some of the most intuitive software I've ever used. It literally took me a couple of hours to learn the system inside and out and my staff is able to count on me for answers any time and I have no problem providing them quick solutions.

Cons: I would really like to see a way that we could consolidate store management into a single back office so that we could transfer stock quickly and easily between stores. Also, if there was a way to have a back stock/storefront separation for inventory, it would save us an insane amount of time with our inventory management control.

Overall: Shopkeep has been an incredible system for us. We've been using it for just over two years now and are extremely satisfied. For the price, you will not find a better system anywhere, and trust me, I've done the research. The cashier end of the system is very intuitive and easy to learn. Teaching my new staff how to use it is a breeze. Customizing the screens makes it easy to sort products by page and button color. The back end of the system is just as easy to use. The built-in analytics can quickly bring up a great overview of how your business is doing. Inventory management is fantastic and very easy to manage. Importing and exporting inventory, customers, sales, etc... is all effortless and great for analyzing data outside of Shopkeep. The App and web-based back office are constantly being updated and improved. Support staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and have always been great at providing us solutions.

For anyone who is looking for a great system for a small retail business that is cost efficient, has great customer support, and is easy to use, look no further... This is the system for you.

The only cons to this system is that you can't manage or transfer inventory between stores in the same back office. You will have to switch between stores and manually add/subtract inventory for each store. Another great feature missing is a separation of stock between the storefront and a storage area. These are features probably better suited to a larger retailer who would need a more capable system but features Shopkeep should consider in their development.

Overall we are very pleased with the system. You can't go wrong!

Recommendations to other buyers: If there was a way to intake batches of inventory and split them or have price breaks that are not percentage based, but rather price based.

Comments: We have been trying for 6 months now to get Shopkeep to work and it has been an absolute NIGHTMARE! I have never been through something like this. BUYER BEWARE! This may be ok for a mom / pop coffee shop or similar, but it is absolutely not a reliable solution for anyone with more than basic needs. We have been coming off Microsoft RMS and wanted to switch to a modern tablet based system. The functionality of Shopkeep is a lot more limited to what we were able to do in RMS. We were willing to live with that, but just FYI, especially when it comes to pricing / discounts etc. it is a lot more limited. The major problem came when we were trying to get the hardware to work. The ethernet credit card terminal is absolutely unreliable. It REQUIRES a direct hard-wired connection to the modem (not the router or a switch), which the sales rep failed to really explain in our call. We spent countless hours setting up all our product etc. only to find out that it is not working. Then, months more to try and troubleshoot. We are at a location where we only have AT&T internet service and it is not very fast. So, in the end, even after connecting everything direct, it still didn't work. According to Shopkeep, this is because we don't have the bandwidth. I don't know how that can be, since we were always able to run transactions through RMS (and even Square, which we use for events and which seem so be much much more reliable). We were also always able to run transactions without being directly connected to a modem. So, after we finally got everything working (we had to bring in a second AT&T line just for Shopkeep) and after six months of effort, we had to run an transaction (yay!) only to get an email from Shopkeep THE NEXT DAY that per our agreement, we can only run max $3k transactions. No one in the office ever remembers hearing about this and, mind you, Shopkeep processed the transaction just fine and told us about this AFTER THE FACT (and after the product was out the door). Absolutely ridiculous and in my opinion worthy of a lawsuit. Luckily we know the buyer, so I think we can get our money back, but I WOULD NEVER EVER EVER EVER WORK WITH SHOPKEEP AGAIN. We are switching to Square and good riddance!

Pros: Kinda nice user interface Backoffice interface is intuitive Price point is okay Supposedly works with Quickbooks well

Cons: Has to be connected directly to modem Will tell you after the fact that it can't process some transactions (after buyer left)

Comments: If you are growing as a store or need to know what your inventory is, this will just bring you down and ruin you....

Pros: Easy to use in the store. Easy for employees to adapt to the system. Can add and delete items quickly in back office if needed.

Cons: All cards run as Credit. Cannot process an exchange, need to return and rebuy. Inventory is constantly off.... I will know I add items in "Inventory adjustment" but the numbers are not correct. Also not a way to add inventory to know that it was a restock. You can if you download their fancy excel sheet and enter your data in there, but who really has time for that. No record of what was added then. Cannot print price stickers if you create an item with variants (at first thought variants were awesome like instead of 6 separate items, have 1 with the different colors. But not I cannot print separate price tags.....) The moment you have any issues with deposits or fraud, just give up. They never resolve anything. They held our credit card deposits for months with no answers. Everyone says something different. "I will call you back as soon as I have an answer..." yeah right, they never call you back. I know it is not the person on the phone, they are just doing what they are told, but what they are told is horrible customer service to just outright lie about what can and cannot be done in the system. If you want to track inventory, don't get SHOPKEEP. Biggest excuse for a POS ever.

Comments: This is not a review to slam the shopkeep pos itself, however, beware their sales reps will tell you ANYTHING and yes LIE to you to buy their system. I know of many people who use shopkeep and were extremely satisfied. I'm very familiar with pos systems so I had shopkeep at the front of the pack when searching for my store's needs. After extensive research I learned shopkeeps card terminal DOES NOT force debit card pin customers to enter their PIN number because it charges everything as credit. Therefore if a customer has a stolen emv debit card and uses it in your store/business, YOU THE MERCHANT, are responsible for the transaction and it WILL BE a chargeback to you. Understand, shopkeeps pos is emv compliant, that's not my concern, there's DIFFERENT LEVELS OF COMPLIANCE, and an emv card terminal which processes emv and pin cards and forces customers to enter their PIN number, known as emv and pin terminals are THE MOST COMPLIANT and the merchant will never have to worry about a chargeback with this type terminal. AND THAT IS WHERE SHOPKEEPS FAILS AND all their LIEING teenage sales reps especially Peter will tell you , you're covered and you're not. They LIE so much they even sent me an article describing how I'll be protected against counterfeit cards, WHERE THAT WASNT MY CONCERN, MY CONCERN WAS LOST/STOLEN CARDS. They will lie and switch things around and if you don't know what you need or are not educated in pos systems you'll be taken and they don't care. And for that experience I believe other comments posted here about their horrible/lied to experiences as well. Needless to say I went with someone else. Buyer beware.

Pros: I know people that have shopkeep and have no problems.

Cons: Their sales reps are liars and will lie for a sale. That's unethical, if they'll do that it makes me wonder about the entire business and could I trust them to support me later or even refund me my money as they claim they'll do within 30days.

Recommendations to other buyers: Learn as much as you can for the needs of your business because these teenagers will say ANYTHING to separate you from your money. THEY WILL LIE TO YOU, ASK THEM TO SHOW YOU IN BLACK AND WHITE "SPECIFICALLY ANYTHING THAT IS CONCERNING TO YOU". BE SPECIFIC.

Pros: I don't know that there are a lot of vendors out there offering this particular type of product. I do know that ShopKeep touts its service as being geared towards smaller businesses thus an economical pricing structure and the subscription price started at a reasonable fee.

Cons: I'll try to summarize my complaints. ShopKeep's web based program drops credit card sales on too often, thus causing my credit card deposit to be different then what it should be. This causes the difficult chore of researching to verify credit card deposits. For the most part, e-mail support is worthless and the techs often seem confused or unknowledgeable. Phone support can be better, part of which is because I usually demand to speak to someone that knows a bit about the problem. It extremely annoyed me that ShopKeep spent the time, money, and resources rewriting and redesigning the website before they took the time to improve their software. The new website design still has glitches in it or does not work well in all browsers. One of my biggest pet peeves is that ShopKeep sends out a survey on customer satisfaction even before there is a response from customer support. I don't do surveys because I haven't received any support or the support offered isn't adequate.

Recommendations to other buyers: Our manager made the buying decision for ShopKeep. I am the bookkeeper that gets the lovely job of babysitting vendors that offer an incomplete service. I would recommend looking at reviews and do an internet search that requests information about software needed in connection with your particular industry.

Pros: When Shopkeep is running and everything is syncing it's wonderful. Easy to use, easy to train staff to use, the credit card signing page has increased tipping by 30%, reporting is fun to see without extra data entry.

Cons: When Shopkeep isn't running and syncing time moves so slowly. Resetting the credit card machine over and over during a busy time is awful. Resetting the ticket printers then updating the ipads when we are busy is miserable. Having them just not re set and paying more to manually enter credit card numbers sucks. Having the printers just not reset and having to go back to hand writing and running tickets to the kitchen is the worst. When the ipads don't sync so we can't pull checks at the register for customers who didn't order at the register and well that really sucks. A lot. Troubleshooting with customer service on this last issue was pretty bad. They would go back to the beginning and tell me to restart the ipads as if I wouldn't have tried that considering we experience them not syncing at least every other day. I have had to get a new router and faster internet to try and solve it. We still experience the ipads not syncing at least every other day even with the expensive upgrades. And lastly reading the summary report to understand what amount of cash you are intended to deposit daily is very confusing. I was told different things by different reps and this led to a daily error we had to go back and fix weeks after we discovered it. Is cash total with your initial drawer amount or not and why doesn't it automatically subtract cash Pay Outs or does it in fact do that? Well we figured it out finally it does not include your starting cash but does include not exclude your Pay Outs. Seems dumb for such a smart system. But worse seems dumb customer service gave different information on different days.

Recommendations to other buyers: Shopkeep is sleek and accessible. The things it does well it does really well. I also feel after looking at older reviews that Shopkeep does want to improve the things their clients complain about. So if you are patient and have back up plans when the system doesn't see the card reader, printers or other registers I say go for it. I am invested now so I am optimistic these issues won't last forever....

Comments: We used Shopkeep now for over three years and i have been really happy with the app itself, however, their Ingnecio IP320 credit card machine has been nothing but trouble. The WI-FI connection between the CC machine and the iPad keeps dropping, 10-20 times per day. We changed machines twice and followed support suggestions to the T and we still have issues. There nothing worse that having your CC machine down when you have a line of customers. Last week, I was at my favorite coffee place in town, that uses shopkeep, and they were having the same issue. The employees were so frustrated, they were giving free coffee drinks. The problem is that the Ingencio IPP machines are the only machines that work with shopkeep. We are currently looking at another POS company. Also, We were given the ultimatum between having our credit cards processed through them or pay 30% more in monthly fees.

Pros: I think the initial programing and setting up the system was easy. The system itself is easy to use

Cons: The only credit card machine that works with the system is unrealiable and constantly loses connection

Pros: I love the back office abilities to crunch your numbers allowing me to make better business decisions. I have saved a lot of time with this POS and it's seamless back office in regards to gathering pertinent information like monthly sales tax, employee hours and return customer activities.

Cons: There are still functions about Shopkeep that as a buy sell trade business I have to do work arounds in order to make it work for my business model. For instance, % based cost 'when' a consignment item sells. I also would like to rename the tender buttons as it is used for my business. For instance, we use the Other tender when a customer utilizes the Trade in my store. Though these are negatives I am also confident it is possible shopkeep will consider updating this function. That's what I love about Shopkeep. It is not a static, once you buy it that's what you have, POS. It's an ever evolving software that will keep you up to date.

Overall: I have recommended this software many times, and I believe two of those recommendations have elected to use Shopkeep. My personal benefits are ease of training new staff to use it, time savings on back office reports, and the edge it gives my business to utilize the data gathered from the use of this POS.

Pros: That as perfect as it already is, the updates make the System even better!

Cons: I hope that ShopKeep can look into not just Apple Devices, but also Samsung. :)

Overall: As a Small Business Owner, I thought maybe just doing it on my own would be best. After a few weeks of opening, receipts were lost and inventory was messy. I was looking for the best for my store so I figure to look for an inexpensive POS System that can cater to what I need to be more professional and organized. I came across how many POS Companies trying to sell me what I would call "just sell it because I need the commission" products. I didn't like the fact that all they were doing is selling me something because they needed to meet a quota. I was reading my receipt and at the bottom of my total had ShopKeeps logo so I decided to look more into it and with the great help of their Customer Service I found a POS System that does all that is needed. It was so easy to use. I can manage my daily sales at the end of the day. When my monthly GRT is due it's so easy for me to pull up what I need to complete my form properly. The monthly rate is great. For all the services that they give and you are not entitled to stay on a contract is wonderful. Shopkeep has made a big impact on my business and I am very happy with it. Maybe even grateful!

Recommendations to other buyers: Shopkeep is a great POS System for Small Business! If there is any other advice it would just be to keep getting ahead of the game!

Pros: Cloud Based, iPad based, user friendly but that's about it, nothing much else. No transparency, no follow-up this system is terrible.

Cons: Filled with inventory tracking bugs. For example, when receiving inventory and pressing save once, it will often update twice and double what you show in stock. When calling customer service to resolve this issue, they say they will get back to you and never do. I'm still waiting for a response from March 2017! Today I'm working on receiving more inventory into the system and have had 2 for 2 errors happen. Received 12 pieces into inventory, hit save, it shows 1. Why? Just now I received 2 pillows, hit save, and it shows I have 41 pillows. If your system can't do basic math then why do I need it? Who has time to be on the phone with the help desk 4 times when trying to accomplish 2 tasks?

Pros: Ease of use for someone who generally is technically challenged. Reliable.

Cons: Our card reader needs frequent restarting and synching.

Overall: We initially had another POS and I had to switch because some features were missing. I asked around our cheese community and ShopKeep came up as an ideal for our particular industry. It works like a dream for us. Well, I might like a new card reader but I know the folks at ShopKeep are working on better equipment for that I'm told. It isn't a problem that gets in the way and I would recommend ShopKeep to any other retailer/restaurant that is similar to ours. It really is a super user-friendly, support accessible POS system. A biz in our space uses Square and while it's nice enough, it really doesn't hold up to how nice ShopKeep is for us. They keep improving. When we opened a little over a year ago there was a report that wasn't available that I thought would inform our projections/planning. Since requesting it (as I'm guessing others have) it is now a particular report feature we can access. Thanks, ShopKeep -- for all the glitches that can happen in day to day biz, my POS is one I don't really have to worry about.

Recommendations to other buyers: For our business, it provides a way to make sales but also provides much helpful information about history, records, employee timesheets, inventory etc... lots here if you want to engage it. And, if you want to keep it simple, you can do that too.

Comments: The worst company ever! From the very beginning we had issues with CC reader working and had to buy (2) separate routers to allow the wireless CC reader to connect and to process cards. Seriously?? I was advised from SHOPKEEP from the very beginning (during on boarding process) that I was going to be charged for monthly maintenance....WRONG... it was for the ability to process gift cards?!!? Really??? Finally, my inventory in the back office is consistently off and today I was advised that I must be imagining this as its impossible and not happening....interesting I must be hallucinating. The managers are rude and take NO accountability for what is going on. Some of the customer care reps are rude and demeaning. Yes I pay SHOPKEEP $ so the staff can talk to me rudely and/or ignore emails. If you want a company that will cause you CONSTANT issues and $ then SHOPKEEP is you POS system!!

Pros: Can tailor your inventory so its easy and personal. Wireless. Not many pieces needed and it can be easily moved.

Cons: Not enough colors for tabs. Customer service and managers are rude and not helpful. Too much scrolling.

Comments: If you have a retail store - RUN - far and fast - from this system. The inventory management is horrible. The reports are useless. There's no way to order product or add inventory efficiently. This is only slightly better than an excel spreadsheet. DO NOT BUY. STAY AWAY.

Pros: Once you figure out how to set it up, it's relatively easy to use. There are big buttons that fat fingers can hit.

Cons: Difficult to set up. I needed to hire someone to set it up for us. No help in getting products into the system. Big issue with inventory. Always had a problem with it, and as they grow, they've beome less helpful. Trying to talk to a senior advisor is impossible. Very very bad follow up. Ordering/recieving also very bad. It's too bad - I had high hopes for this system, but competely dissapointed.

Comments: Be careful with BYOD equipment (they prefer you buy from them). I recently added a wireless receipt printer and had problems with the system printing multiple receipts. When I contacted support they stated my solution is not supported but they would try to help me. The problem got fixed by deleting all three printers and re-adding them but I was concerned about the not support comment. Seems like they are way behind on current technology.

Pros: Quick to learn and easy to operate. A recent update made navigating tabs easier if you have more than one screens worth of tabs.

Cons: Serverless sync needs work. If you have a second register you do not open shifts on very often, you will have to clear out old tickets on it before you can use it without confusion. Would love to be able to view, adjust, and receive inventory from a single screen. If you have lots of adjustments to do, you have to run a report and print it then go to adjust or receive separately. Just raised monthly subscription prices 30%+ unless you committed paying to at least two years in advance. Who knows where you might be in two years?

Comments: Can't wait to switch to a different POS system. I've looked into clover and it's is more expensive than shopkeep but I have a feeling they will work with my business needs.

Cons: Printer doesn't work properly, always malfunctioning tech support is horrendous.Highly unrecommended. One call to Portland than a call to the U.K., with not one person able to solve the problem. Each time given a different solution that only temporarily fixed it. This has caused problems of me having to pay employees for a longer shift since we are unable to close out the drawer, due to reciepts not printing and customers unable to close out tabs. On one occasion I called I was told to delete the app and reinstall it before doing this I told the rep that I had 12 open tabs. He said no problem they will still be there when I reinstall, well they weren't everything was wiped.

Pros: ShopKeep is easy to set up from the get-go, which is important for a small business owner who has just opened and simply needs a way to process customer payments and organize retail products. Customers are pretty familiar with the experience of purchasing products through ShopKeep, which keeps transactions moving smoothly, however their system for linking cards to telephone numbers/past customers is not as smooth as Square's system.

Cons: Because ShopKeep offers so many different ways to enter in retail products, this can actually be a problem for users because tings can quickly get disorganized. We've also encountered issues with ShopKeep not wanting to scan credit cards, which has forced our team to manually enter the cards (this can create higher user error). We also do not prefer the mobile app version of ShopKeep compared to Square and only use the ShopKeep system in our brick-and-mortar retail store.

Comments: This system is too restrictive and only built for a small shop where the owner is doing everything. Dont buy if you are a business with employees. For instance, when a customer purchases an item, I would like an employee to be able to put an item back on the shelf with a price tag. HOWEVER employees can only create price tags if they are a manager in Back Office. In Back Office then the employee can change their time clock, see your vendors and what you have paid for everything, etc. So you as the owner of the business better plan on doing everything with this system. This system is based on Excel and very rudimentary and then never make enhancements. Their support is never online and when your salesman is done selling things to you he just tells you to go back to Support. You have to do business the Shop Keep way or nothing.

Pros: Easy to use, support is great until after you purchase, access to inventory from anywhere because it is web based

Cons: Too restrictive, no upgrades, poor customer support, only built for a one person business, based on a very rudimentary excel spreadsheet.

Comments: If anybody is buying SHOPKEEP for any type of retail environment please know that it is literally impossible to run a successful business with this software. The following are functions SHOPKEEP does not have: -NO record of receiving vouchers....cannot receive inventory, you can only add quantities in the system. -NO way to create Return Authorizations or credits -NO PO'S "PURCHASE ORDERS". What retail shop can operate without keeping track of purchasing? -NO WAY TO DO EXCHANGES.....YEP, you cannot do the basic task of exchanging an item for another. This has to be done on multiple receipts........please tell me what retail shop can operate like this. -NO way to have basic reports of size, color, style, vendor, etc. Very limited reports. -NO way to have commission on individual items for employees. I am so fed up with this company as a whole because of the way they have handled my situation. My Shopkeep expert assigned to me has not gotten back to my emails, and totally misrepresented the software in order to make a sale. This wouldn't be a big deal if I could get my money and move on, but SHOPKEEP stated this is not an option. FYI I have had the system for only 10 days, but paid a year in advance.

Pros: NOTHING!!!!!

Cons: Horrible customer care. I was told its policy to never give and type of money back so they couldn't help me. Customer service is what any business is built on, and I will spread my meassage about how horrible SHOPKEEP has been to me for as long as it takes to be heard!!! FYI they wouldn't let me speak to any managers because it's not the "policy" I have been in retail for 15years, and without customer care you have nothing.

Recommendations to other buyers: STAY AWAY....AS FAR AWAY AS SHOPKEEP AS YOU CAN!!!! Worst customer service I have dealt with EVER!!!!!

Not overly satisfied.

Comments: It does a decent job acting as a cash register, but with the Cons I've listed, I wouldn't do this system again.

Pros: Simple for employees to use, (most of the time.) Keeps up with employee hours Decent job of tracking inventory (once you get it in)

Cons: Merchant services. If you don't use their processing service (shopkeep payments) expect no EMV. You can use an external credit/debit terminal, but you lose the communication with the app requiring the charge information to me manually put into separate terminal. This increases the chance of error. Adding inventory is not all that friendly. Even with the .csv import. Printer stops almost every day requiring a reboot of the software. No place in the checkout options to allow for merchandise trade-in.

Pros: The ease of use and knowing where I stand with my business numbers.

Cons: It is so compact that if I'm not standing by my check out, new people don't know where it is.

Overall: I had no idea how to buy a POS system. I was more afraid of this purchase than any other in my new start-up business. I have been open for over a year and a half now, this system has never failed me. I had a couple of issues with my credit card machine, one of them on my Grand Opening day! I called ShopKeep, they had me up and running in less than 3 minutes. I have always been taken care of with quick friendly service. I live in Michigan. I am a real person and I use ShopKeep.

I have the smallest store of anyone I know and this system is not overkilled for me. I feel I have a support system that puts me in control and gives me the presentation that I want for my customers. I am very confident knowing more about my business. ShopKeep has given me the edge I needed.

Recommendations to other buyers: I think it would great if you could change inventory from the item page without needing to switch to a different screen. OR have a back button so that you can stay with the item until your done working with it.

With a High Paced Ladies Boutique I need inventory accuracy at the click of a button.

Pros: How easy it is to use. How their experts are always maintaining and updating the system to make it better and easier.

Cons: Some of the tabs, like the Customer Name tab is a little small and takes a few tries to get it to tap.

It won't pair up to our Moneris Debit System.

Overall: With constant season changes and style changes, I need access to inventory on the go. I love that with Shopkeep I can log in any time, anywhere. I can tap into my inventory to help up to date quantities or to plan a sale. Because Shopkeep is so easy to use AND so easy to access I can work from any smartphone, tablet or computer.

I can also log in to check on hourly or daily sales, do the month, quarterly or year-end reports and forecast daily, weekly or month sales.

Plus I never have to pay extra for updates or maintenance to our system.

I highly recommend Shopkeep for your business!!

Comments: We've used ShopKeep for our restaurant for about a year and 1/2. The biggest issues are (1) iPads not "talking" to one another, making nightly reports inaccurate, and (2) no commitment to security/loss-prevention. We had a former employee hack into our system, and ShopKeep refused to provide the information the police needed to help solve the crime, even with a subpoena (we're not in the same state, so they didn't have to). We've also had a lot of theft. It's very easy for employees to pocket cash and void a sale. Short of being there to perform every single management function on the POS every hour we're open, we have to give register-management access to shift managers. Without reports to see what's being voided (other than a dollar amount), it's impossible to see what's going on. ShopKeep doesn't seem to care. After the hacking, we tried to work with ShopKeep to gain more security. The "password" they entered for us (calling it "very strong") wouldn't even be accepted by most online sources as a valid password. A six-year-old could hack it. Read the other online reviews, and read the BBB comments. People in the trenches are very kind and as helpful as they're allowed to be, but ShopKeep doesn't care about anything but collecting their fee.

Pros: Extremely easy to use, set up, and change.

Cons: Security and support are awful. The reps try, but we continue to have the same problems--it's not the support staff, it's the problems with the system. And with only two levels of register access, it's impossible to give a shift manager limited access--it's all or nothing.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you can easily track inventory, the security issues might be less troublesome. But in a restaurant, it's almost impossible.

Comments: Much like the other reviewers on here I am disappointed in the lack of support after the sale. They are solely interested in selling volume and I believe they probably do a good job of that but to the disinvestment of the consumer. The system is relatively simple to set up but frustrating if you don't have all of your information up front because if you don't and you have to change something it is the painstaking task of going item by item to update. The developers could have easily solved this with quicksheet imports and exports but I guess they couldn't spend the money on that functionality. The only quick excel sheet available is to upload products initially but then comes the task of going into each one of them to finalize and update. Don't make any mistakes here cause if you do there is not way to mass correct. You will have to go back and update each item individually. Don't believe everything the salesman tells you. I wish I had listened to more of their competition who had done their research on them before taking their word for it. All in all its an OK system for the money, their employees are awful at communication once they have your money but I guess you get what you pay for.

Pros: Ease of use once you configure

Cons: Horrible system to load Inventory management is questionable Poor service after the sale Sales people are not always forthright with the truth

Recommendations to other buyers: If you are on a budget and need a solution then this is it. If you have time for the aggravating experience but want to save money in the process then this is the company to go with. If you are a professional and expect the company to be so then shop elsewhere and pay a little more.

Pros: The layout was nice, but not functional

Cons: -HORRIBLE CUSTOMER CARE

-CANNOT DO EXCHANGES (VERY BASIC RETAIL OPERATION)

-CANNOT RECEIVE INVENTORY (ONLY CAN EDIT QUANTITIES)

-CANNOT SO BASIC REPORTS ON SIZE, STYLE, VENDOR, COLOR ETC.....VERY BASIC

-CANNOT DO (PO'S) PURCHASE ORDERS

-CANNOT DO AN RETURN AUTHORIZATION

AND MUCH MUCH MORE

Overall:

If anybody is buying SHOPKEEP for any type of retail environment please know that it is literally impossible to run a successful business with this software.

Recommendations to other buyers: NEVER BUY THIS SOFTWARE, WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD!!!

Comments: First time buyer of inventory and pos system. I needed a system that could do inventory control as I own a jewelry shop with hundreds of pieces in each case. I talked to a couple of companies informing them that I wanted a system that would be able to scan all items in a particular case and tell me what sold but what is unaccounted for. A few calls later I called shopkeep and talked to a rep informed me that it would do this so I bought the retail system and paid the monthly fee 1 year in advance. Got my equip., bought my Ipad air from best buy and played with the system before setting up my 1st free class with another rep. I told my sales rep. I was mainly after inventory control. I wanted to inventory a case and see what is unaccounted for. I immediately knew I was misinformed by my sales rep. and never finished the free 1/2 hour class. I called customer care and set up my free return but no refund on the approx.. monthly fee I paid in advance. Also needed Thermal transfer label printer and was told by cust. care their dymo printer did that which was false. They don't offer a thermal transfer printer which really surprised me. Was going to use their merchant svcs. but found out they would do a credit check. In the process of buying a house so told them I didn't want a hard inqiry and was told it wouldn't be which was untrue. I was surprised by the general lack of knowledge at shopkeep and felt cheated in the end.

Pros: Prices seemed very fair.

Cons: Lack of product knowledge by employees, no refund on advance monthly fee. Only offering a direct thermal label printer.

Recommendations to other buyers: Don't pay in advance until you're sure you got what you were told.

I worked with ShopKeep on a daily basis for over a year - it worked well and intuitively.

Pros: The biggest pro to ShopKeep is that it is incredibly intuitive and easy to learn. All buttons and options are exactly where you would expect them, and everything else is programmable from the backend. ShopKeep is so well designed that you could learn the ins and outs within a single shift if you were a new worker. Because of the ease of use, ShopKeep undoubtedly sped up transactions and kept the line moving. Furthermore, the information that a user has access to through the backend is absolutely stupendous. Much of the information is the exact information that you would want to know, or would even go to lengths to calculate yourself, yet ShopKeep does it all automatically.

Cons: Easily, what I liked least about this software is that it often fails to store transactions when offline. Now, this ordinarily wouldn't be an issue (or even an expectation with these sorts of softwares), but, when a company advertises this as a main feature it is a little annoying when it doesn't work so often. This issue has led to many lost transactions or less importantly, having to chase down customers to redo the transaction.

Overall: Ease of use and an increased customer flow.

Pros: Ease of use, simple interface, time clock/staff feature

Cons: Some of the reports are weird or I can't get exactly what I want; my register reports on the dashboard are always East coast versus Central time.

Overall: I enjoy this software/register for our small candy store. They seem to keep pushing out new versions and updates that are helpful. I like that I can track inventory, costs, and employees easily. It is very easy for new employees to catch on, even without much computer knowledge. The next thing might be for us to add a bar code scanner, which we don't have. My main complaint is that I haven't been able to figure out how to get the reports to be central and not eastern time zone. Also, I don't care for some of the report changes, but overall, it's a great package.

Comments: We enjoyed using shoopkeep for about a year and half as a gateway to bringing our very 1900's music store into the 21st. After we realized we could actually do business on a system I started looking for something with more integrated features.

Pros: Very easy to train on. The "back office" web portal interface is also very common sense to work with and has all the features you would need for maybe a gift shop or cafe sort of operation. Great cash tracking ability. Great features like pop ups that suggest add on / up size discounts to the clerk.

Cons: Not sophisticated enough for a business model that has multiple streams of business like services, rentals, classes, lessons. The iPad based idea is cool but it means that all peripherals end up being Bluetooth which isn't as stable as you might want for POS hardware.

Pros: ShopKeep is great for a small business. It can be used to keep track of employee's time clock, organize and customize orders with ease, easy set up with other registers and printers. My favorite feature is the BackOffice that comes with ShopKeep. I was able to customize and add buttons as needed from my phone or computer in the office while my employees use the register. With a simple refresh, the employee is able to use the new feature. ShopKeep allows you to make and keep track of tabs, separate orders, and create an invoice for preorders.

Cons: I did not have any problems with Shopkeep nor could I find any feature that needed fixed.

Overall: My overall experience with ShopKeep was great and I highly recommend ShopKeep to any small business owners.

Pros: Ease of use and that the database is in the cloud and always live.

Cons: I have lots of database experience and I feel like I should be able to sort by every field. (and should be able to) but we are limited to best-selling items etc. I would like to be able to sort by supplier or category etc.

Overall: I have tree retail stores and i need to see their sales in real time to make re-orders and to ba able to update the inventory in real time from one central location. I can do all of this with shop keep. It's great! I wish that there was more reporting functionality but i am sure that is on the way! Thanks especially to all of the super helpful people on the support desk!

Recommendations to other buyers: One this that is very important to me is to have the ability to "move" or "transfer" my merchandise from one store to another without having to "sell" the merchandise or to do a bulk movement of the merchandise in excel. Just "transfer". Simple!

Pros: User friendly

Cons: Took so long for the Android app to get released, I think currently at v1.0

Overall: I shopped around for a POS system quite a bit before deciding on Shopkeep and I've had no regrets. No long contact, choose my own card processor and truly intuitive for my employees. Inventory management is integrated, and recently I've started using the employee time recording... I wish I'd started using that a long time ago! Support has always been prompt and the support staff is very friendly. I also love the new free Android app, I can track what's going on when I'm away. Also very good reporting on the back end. Overall a great app and I'd choose Shopkeep again if I were just starting out.

Pros: The efficiency, ease of use, and mobile tracking features. I can make and track sales from multiple devices anywhere in my building.

Cons: I wish there were a way to view when a particular item was sold, as well as to who. I sell very unique items and I want to be able to see when they were last sold without having to pull transaction reports from several months.

Overall: This is a wonderful POS. Very easy to use, features almost everything that I could want. I love being able to make and track sales from anywhere.

It is easy to upload information, track inventory, and view sales statistics by the day, week, or month and set reorder triggers for best-selling items.

Customer support is fast-acting and friendly. They answer my questions efficiently and honestly and really do put the customer first.

Great system--highly recommend!

Recommendations to other buyers: This is a great site, but the mobile-friendly version is not the absolute best if I'm Not using the correct app. A safari/internet friendly version would be nice.

Pros: Ease of use. The way it looks to the customer.

Cons: Be nice to be able to check inventory on the iPad, not just in the back office.

Overall: I had to open a company store from scratch. Had to build it and stock it with the product for my company. I had no idea how to order or manage a point of sale system. Thankfully someone recommended ShopKeep to me. I was able to get up and running with an iPad system including cash drawer, credit card scanner and receipt printer. Other standard register systems were thousands more. I have about 300 items in my store and this system is perfect for what I need. It is extremely easy to use and it's a perfect fit. The back office software is very easy to learn and I was able to enter my products and get up and running in no time. I would highly recommend this pos solution to anyone looking to start or upgrade their current setup.

Pros: The back office management software makes inventory and sales easy to track and use with quickbooks.

Cons: The support for the product, there is a fundamental networking knowledge gap with the technical support department of the company.

Overall: The software and hardware is not bad, and I would recommend this to anyone as long as they would be able to configure the network and point of sales themselves. I was brought in as a consultant for a string of stores all using the shopkeep system on the same network. The issue they were having was that each point of sale had it's own printer a total of 7 P.O.S.'s and 7 printers, and if more than 3 mac addresses were on the network the printers would start disconnecting. After calling shopkeep support I was told the internet connection didnt have enough upload speed. This made me chuckle why a local printer would care about the WAN connection speed. If the printers do depend on the internet speed to work then turning the modem off should render all printers inoperative, but it doesn't. After having my issue escalated and speaking to the advanced support lead I was still being told an internet speed of 25m down and 4m up was too slow of an upload speed. Frustrated I let them think that I would tell the owner to buy a faster internet package from her ISP, but I didnt. I broke up their single LAN network into 4 broadcast domains with the addition of 3 more routers for a total of 4 routers. Surprise surprise it works fine now, I wish we could have gotten to the root cause of why no more than 3 shopkeep point of sales and 3 printers could operate. But all shopkeep support thinks is a WAN internet speed determines if a local printer stays connected.

Comments: Shopkeep will not work correctly in a large restaurant environment of 18 ipads, even though they sold it to us anyway stating it would. I am still battling the issue of Shopkeep billing me even after I cancelled in July of 2016, they still owe me and are stating it's my fault that they continued to bill after I sent a registered letter stating that I cancelled. I know the product works very well in smaller settings, just make sure you are aware that they have big problems resolving any billing issues that affect them should they arise.

Pros: Works fine for small businesses, however, no more than 6 ipads at one time. They sold it to me stating it would work with 18

Cons: very poor billing support - cancelled service but they continued billing my credit card and will not pay back the overcharges

Okay product for business doing greater than credit card sales per month.

Pros: Screen layout, easy to train employees on, tracking screen fairly simple, customer service has fast response times but can't ever really help you

Pros: Shopkeep's iPad register and BackOffice app brought structure and order to a previously cumbersome paper and cash register mode of commerce. We've been using ShopKeep for six months and have greatly improved our methods for receiving, tracking, and modifying our inventory. The client management tools are worth their weight in gold - we are now seamlessly integrated with MailChimp and are able to track and engage our customers more effectively. In addition, the software's ability to document and provide statistics for clientele is a great tool. The interface and administrative functions are intuitive and all our employees have been quickly trained and educated within days. The pocket App is a great compliment to the system and allows us (co-owners) to keep tabs on the shop throughout the day when were away.

Cons: Some of the BackOffice functions for managing inventory are somewhat cumbersome, especially when items are sold yet remain "active" in the register. As with any computer programming it's "garbage in - garbage out" so we have to be especially careful when logging in inventory codes and item descriptions from the beginning.

Recommendations to other buyers: From our experience, ShopKeep works best for a retail business that has a deep and varied inventory. In addition, although the administrative aspects of managing inventory from BackOffice are pretty basic, it requires that the employees and managers have the patience and education/training to work on a computer - basically the product won't be friendly for those that are "computer illiterate". Managing ShopKeep requires some patience and tenacity when sitting in front of a computer.

Pros: Ease of use on the software

Cons: Customer support and hardware support is the absolute worst! I am an easy person to get along with and they ruffled my feathers more than once!

Overall: I ordered the whole system before we were up and running live so that I could check it off the list. Big mistake, cash drawer came with no cable, wrong printer for our application and zero directions for set up. 60 days later when we were up and running, I had to buy a whole new printer (they would not return the first one even though it was never used) and they claimed I must of lost the cable for the cash drawer. (it wasn't ever unpacked) I really tried to work with these folks, but they had my money and was no longer interested in supporting the software. I was told they only sell the hardware as a courtesy to the customers. I will be changing over as I am opening two other sites this year.

Recommendations to other buyers: Yes....don't do it, there are others out there that do a much better job for restaurants.

Pros: Cost - It's cheap. Quite possibly the cheapest out there. A lot of "bang for your buck".

Cons: Tax reporting deficiencies: Does not itemize monthly tax liability for multiple tax rates. It is lumped together as one sum. And, technically, it's not calculated correctly. The tax rates are applied to total gross dollar amounts, instead of adding each sale's exact tax collected. For us, this only results in pennies difference, so not a big deal, but, technically this is NOT how to calculate total tax collected. Back-end operation could definitely be smoother. There are a lot of little things that I don't like about ShopKeep (partly because I'm very particular). But, it's also frustrating that some of the very simple inefficiencies have not been worked out over the course of the last 15 months. And, if they tell you they plan to implement something in the near future, don't put too much stock into statements of that sort.

Recommendations to other buyers: As long as you don't have very demanding inventory requirements, you should definitely consider ShopKeep for the price.

Pros: The ONLY good thing about shopkeep is that you are able to choose your own merchant services! Nobody will let you have your choice!

Cons: 1. You have to pay for each register per month! 2. If the internet goes down then you have a useless system and there is no way for you to continue business. 3. The system will probably just stop freeze in the printer was just disconnect. 4. When you call them try their best to help but it only covers up the problem but they NEVER FIX it!

Pros: Very easy to use

Cons: The gratuity could be set up a little bit different but it still works great

Overall: I absolutely love how easy it is to see what's going on with the sales at work while being at home! It is also very easy to be able to send all the tax information over to our accountant with only a couple buttons! I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a POS system!

Recommendations to other buyers: We have been using it for the last 4 1/2 years and I have never second-guessed it!

We've used it for over a year and it's easy to use and teach others how to use it.

Pros: Ease of use, learning and creation of transactions

Cons: No ability to add notes on transactions to clarify or add information

Overall: We installed it on our iPad and after taking a bit of time to learn how best to use it, it's been easy to use. Plus when we need assistance, it's a quick phone call away. But we haven't needed much assistance, really. The only criticism I have is that I can't make notes on items or transactions - sometimes when you're handling a transaction it's nice to be able to add something to clarify the purchase. But otherwise, it works well and as advertised.

Recommendations to other buyers: feel free to contact support, there are excellent FAQs and staff responses

Comments: Over for solely in store retail use ShopKeep is great. If you need a POS that syncs both in store and your eccomerce business STAY FAR AWAY FRM SHOPKEEP + BIG COMMERCE. The integration needs some serious work. This is the reason we will be changing POS system at the end of our contract

Pros: In store ShopKeep is the absolute best POS system. It is very user friendly and very rarely has issues. I am able to confidently go about my work day using ShopKeep knowing my boutique is functioning properly.

Cons: The ShopKeep and Bog Commerce integration is absolutely AWFUL. I have had so many issues which have caused me a lot of money. The two systems do not sync perfectly causing the wrong amounts of inventory to be listed and customers ordering things we no longer have. It also will has issues pulling new color ways of existing styles on to the site, ShopKeep and Big Commerce also push the blame back and forth to one another and have you ping pong between customer representatives to fix it. The customer service representatives also only provide "fixes" that cause you hours upon hours of more work

Comments: Shopkeep has been an easy software program to learn on my own and train employees on. However, it does have some limitations for a clothing retail application.

Pros: I like how clean and simple and uncluttered it is. It was easy to learn how to use.

Cons: I wish you were able to: return an item and sell an item in the same transaction, void a sale from the ipad, look up customer's purchases from the ipad, add sizes and colours within one product heading (instead of having to enter a whole new line item for a different size or colour), and see reports at a glance without having to export into excel. I would also like to receive a discount for adding my other store to the system, and also be able to link them together within the software. The labeling system was very difficult to use as well, so I ended up scraping it and just using the search function.

Recommendations to other buyers: This is a great POS system for small stores with only one location and not a tonne of products with many variables. Perfect for Cafes or small simple retail outlets. I have many products each with multiple variables so it's feeling a little limiting for me.

Comments: The front end of this program is easy to use, but the reporting features are very weak. Most reports simply download to Excel with no date feature, which is very weak from a audit standpoint. Also, since data in Excel is easy to manipulate, it is less defensible in a tax audit. A simple report showing revenue by tax type is not available - your only option is to print a "screenshot" with no report heading or date. You have to handwrite that information on your printed screenshot and hope that passes muster in an audit. Highly likely you will have to surrender your POS to an auditor so they can verify that the reports you submitted represent the actual sales.

Cons: Reports - especially sales data for taxes. A summary report, with heading, dates and sales by tax type is not available. Most reports download to Excel without headings or dates. Reports should be generated from Shopkeep and should not be manipulatable by the user, as they are in Excel.

Recommendations to other buyers: Really consider your need for tax reports when buying this program. If your state has multiple tax rates, or you work with multiple states or countries, the back end of this system is likely not robust or sophisticated enough for your needs.

Pros: Fairly easy to use. Quick response from support but you often get the same canned response, thanks for your input we'll send it on to our dev team.

Cons: There is no way to capture vendor info. Reports don't always show accurate info. There is no way on the iPad screen to see how many items are left in inventory so sales people can't see that. When you add inventory it can't calculate the new cost, and prices change a lot so you have to manually do the calculations. You can't see when you purchased an item so you don't know how long it's been your inventory. You better be good with Excel, a lot of reports are only useful if you export them to Excel. And a lot of reports can't be exported making them useless.

Recommendations to other buyers: You have to really know what you'll need from a POS system. Shopkeeps inability to give you meaningful inventory reports and to capture vendor info makes it a weak system in my opinion.

Comments: I'm glad I purchased this program and feel confident that the company will keep improving it.

Pros: Keeps track of inventory; I used to buy things I didn't need. Now I get a list from ShopKeep that tells me what I need to re-order. I have a customer loyalty program that's easy to keep track of with ShopKeep. This company is always working to improve their systems.

Cons: In order to use the keyboard on the tablet you have to turn off the scanner. So you're constantly turning it on and off. No layaway program in the system, which the salesman told me was there. UPC labels I've created with this system don't always scan.

Overall: We have been using ShopKeep at the Belize Chocolate Company Chocolate Boutique for nearly 2 years and have found it a game changer

As a small business, it was every affordable to switch from a regular till to this POS system. When I am not in the shop I can see how the day is going, the factory can view it online so product levels can be monitored and production changed throughout the day if needed.

Customer support is always available and since we have been using the software there have been many great upgrades.

Pros: ShopKeep is designed to meet all business needs. Being a small business, we are able to do all of our ordering, inventory, check our sales, and cash out customers using one app. Having used multiple difficult Point of Sales systems in the past, I would say the best thing about this product is that it is easy to understand. The website and app are easy to maneuver and find what you are looking for or what you're wanting to do. The iPad app is incredibly convenient, and is also laid out in a manner that makes opening, checking out, and closing fast, efficient, and easy.

Cons: I don't really have any complaints, but maybe a few suggestions. On the check out to cash screen, if there were more present amounts for cash it could make check out a lot easier. Perhaps even including the full dollar amount about the price requested? It would also be nice to be able to adjust some prices in bulk instead of individually.

Recommendations to other buyers: You can't really write a good review until you have personally used all functions of the app.

Pros: Ease of use. Shopkeep is incredibly easy to use from initial setup to ringing up sales. Inventory management, reordering, and analytics are all incredibly simple and makes my job much easier. We all know time is money and Shopkeep save time.

Cons: I don't really have any dislikes about Shopkeep. I guess if I had to break it down I would say that it's simplicity could be an issue for some larger or more complicated retail applications. This hasn't been an issue for us...Shopkeep does everything we need it to do.

Recommendations to other buyers: The best recommendation I have is to make a complete list of everything you want your POS system to do. Then do your research on what is available. A couple of key features for me were recurring cost, initial investment, long term support, and credit card integration. Shopkeep won on all accounts when I made my decision. Also be sure to ask for active customer feedback and a full feature demo of the product.

Pros: Since I heard about Shop Keep and its functionality in a simple iPad I decided to try it and I have never repented, I have been using this valuable tool for a couple of months, which has given a solution for my mobile sales points with which I sell in bazaars

Cons: As a recommendation I would ask ShopKeep to keep up to date, as well as the iOs is updated every year you keep on trend with an increasingly better functionality

Overall: If you are a person who starts with your own company, I highly recommend using ShopKeep, it is very easy to use and it will help you a lot since managing your point of sale from an iPad is a marvel

Comments: This is a great software for a majority of retailer and fast casual dining establishments. Restaurants that need more advance options such as table maps, complicated menus with a variety of modifiers may not find that this software meets their needs.

Pros: - Easy to set up (both with the equipment and the back-end software) - Easy to operate ( the software is intuitive and has great features) - Fantastic customer service (24/7 support included in monthly price)

Cons: - This software can be a bit basic for the restaurant industry (lacks table map, advanced menus, etc) - Tips cannot be altered for a greater amount (even if the batch is still open)

Pros: I love the way you can track sales. It really helps with our year to year comparisons. Love the way how our employees can clock in and clock out using the application. It is also nice that we can now save invoices for customers to pay later. The application is really user friendly, employees with hardly any technological experience can use it.

Cons: I would like it to be more convenient or easier for customer to enter in their email address. It would also be nice to enter a phone number to be able to text receipts to customers as well. Any chance to have an email sent to the customer for a review of their experience?

Comments: We switched from square to shopkeep, because the backoffice of shopkeep was supposed to be better and our business is growing to multiple locations. Unfortunately, we will be going back to square. Shopkeeps customer services have been awful. They are taking over 4% of processing fees and will not let me talk to someone because I refuse to pay for a premium account just to get the issue resolved. I thought shopkeep was known for their great customer service, but switching from square was an absolute nightmare. Wasted in hardware to try it out.

Pros: The reason we switched was because the backoffice was supposedly better, but even that isn't any better than squares.

Cons: customer service, loyalty, processing fees. They make you pay extra per month to talk to someone, even when it's something they messed up.

Pros: Easy to use.

Better price than others!!

Cool and up to date PSO system on my counter!

Cons: It might be difficult if you have a lot of inventory.

Inventory can not be set to different sales tax codes.

Overall: We are a large construction company, we opened up a small retail shop and we needed a new POS system. We were using Costco, which worked fine for our merchant service charges, but once we opened the store it was new ground. I didn't need something fancy, complex, or expensive. I just needed something to make the next step in our company. After doing a lot of research ( A LOT!!) I finally bit the bullet and ordered everything I needed. The price was right they reviewed my old Merchant service fees and beat those fees. I felt like switching to this system was easier on our budget anyway. Support was fantastic! That is probably what made our transition painless. I would highly recommend. I don't feel like we would ever outgrow this system either.

Recommendations to other buyers: Do your research first.

We have been able to see which items were not doing so well and which ones were. It's a great tool that every business should have!

Pros: Customer support is very good. They are responsive and seem to always resolve the issue.

Cons: Occasionally there have been incidents which we were out of a POS for hours or a day. Each time it has been something different. We went through a period of the app locking up a few times a week. This caused shifts to not be closed and therefore left some accounting work to clean up. I feel that it was due to the rapid growth and oversights were made. As of late, the app has been very stable. I would also like to see a little more in depth reporting capabilities.

Recommendations to other buyers: It's a very good product. Just be mindful that it's inexpensive, and therefore you cannot expect the same you'd get out of a $3000 terminal. Overall, I am satisfied with ShopKeep and intend to keep using it, and using it in my next restaurant launch in 2016.

Comments: I'm so thankful I found out about the ShopKeep POS system. As a first-time business owner, the ease of the app and the amount of tech support from the ShopKeep team as made my life so much easier. My employees learned the app extremely fast and we are able to keep up with inventory and our numbers quickly, which is always important in a restaurant. Along with my employees, my customers always compliment our POS system.

Awesome.

Pros: Customer Service is the top PRO for mr. this company had it 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, and they are all NICE! A+ Second is the amount of useable feedback the software gives me. Even in the pocket app. Going from a 4 button register no inventory, to this allows me to make educated decisions rather than guessing. The register is pretty easy to use and I set it up in back office before I had my meeting with support to learn how to set it up. Meaning it's user friendly. This has been a huge upgrade to our shop.

Cons: Inventory control is a little buggy. If you receive inventory and hit save more than once it adds the amount of times you click save. ( receive 20 items hit save twice on accident it saves 40) then having to remove those items 1 by 1 can eat up a lot of time and if frustrating.

Pros: The User Interface is very well designed and makes user experience very pleasant. Pricing isn't bad at all for this type of solution. I've helped many clients get setup with shopkeep POS and haven't had any complaints. My favorite part of setting up shopkeep for clients is hearing how EASY it is to use and tracking their inventory.

Cons: Pricing vs Square/Stripe pricing is the only compliant I typically hear from my clients I've setup to use shopkeep.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you're looking for a professional iPad solution, Shopkeep has a very eye appealing application that is easy to setup and easy to use.

Very very easy to use Software! Great inventory tracking and includes in house processing!

Pros: I love how easy it is to add products to my store, track whats hot thats selling, and also replenish my inventory.

Cons: It is rather pricey and the swipers that they use (ingenico ipp 320's) are very expensive. Although customer support is 24/7 it was hard to get a hold of a rep at certain times.

Pros: The dashboards ease to view analytics.

Cons: That the dashboard changes, therefore, my store reporting has to adapt to the changes.

Overall: ShopKeep fills our need for a POS system that offers customer insights and analytics at the touch of a finger. Keeping track of our inventory, sales, transactions, and marketing analytics assist us in knowing our customers better. Offering them what they want to be based on the availability ShopKeep offers us is why we utilize the program over all others and would recommend this to anyone looking to maintain accurate records assisting with future purchases.

Thanks, ShopKeep!

Pros: It was very easy to have our staff trained on ShopKeep. The interface is user friendly not only to our employees but to our customers as well.

Cons: Not as customizable as we would have liked and also was on the higher price end of the spectrum considering other POS systems.
