Account Manager Utilities Used the software for: 2+ years ### "A Complete All-in-one Firewall" March 29, 2019 4.0 Our company's web servers and applications for both intra and internet has been fortified and protected by Sophos UTM. We feel well secured as long as we keep it updated. Pros Sophos UTM for me is a complete all-in-one firewall that is enough to address a small to mid-sized company. (I have no experience with big company implementation so I cannot comment on that.) It is fairly easy to setup and deploy. We use Sophos for protecting our Web Applications, managing our IP security, and for detecting and managing network intrusions. One thing I haven't maximized yet is the use of the free VPN. No stability issues so far, and we feel rightly protected. Cons I find the console and interface to be cumbersome to navigate and I always end up using the top left Search function. Maybe I need more familiarization with it, but offhand it's not so intuitive. Review Source tP tejas P. May 18, 2017 3.0 This product is implemented by me and my team at few of our customer offices.Benefits are enlisted as follows -We installed this prodct as routed firewall, first line of defense against unprotected network which made our network secure and solved our basic purpose of providing internet connectivity to user by using NAT. -Its SSL vpn feature benefited the users who are working from home or outside office to access the internal resources flawlessly. -It helped us manage the bandwidth of leased line. Pros \-The best thing about SPHOS is the ease of use even a nontechie person with enough understanding will be able to set up a basic environment. -The GUI is extremely user friendly and all the features are very well placed because of which using this product is extremely handy. -Best for Simple setups i.e if you run an organisation of 20-200 users and you need to provide a basic secure internet connectivity along with some url/web filtering; this product is a good choice. -As compared to other products in the same segment sophos UTM seems pocket friendly which is why startups in south asia are opting this product. -Support is just awesome; one can expect resolution within few minutes the call gets logged Cons \-When it comes to complex networks, I have seen this product failing haplessly especially when it comes to routing protocols -URL filtering just works but doesn't always behave as it ideally should behave especially when TLS/SSL is used. -Few advanced features (such as vpn with overlapping subnets) that aren't supported with this box -Granular control over the applications is missing too; I believe this has to be accomplished masterly as nowadays there is very high risk of layer 7 attacks such as ransomware. It has all the security bundles in built, they need to focus on mid sized market and roll out pricing as per the same for the services. Pros This firewall provides bundle of services. Setting up of ssl vpn was exceptional easy. Rule configuration per zone was easy to set up App rule , content filtering, ips/ids sophos utm has all clubbed in one box Cons Patches and fixing should be done on priority, security reviews and solutions should be done on weekly or within 15 days go avoid breachins. April 2, 2018 5.0 Pros We have been using Sophos in our company for ensuring data and network protection. Our system administrators find it easy to use, customizable, and powerful enough to catch any rogue device or threats. The built-in reporting and logging system is very useful to allow the administrators know exactly everything that's happening, and it is best presented using easy to read graphs, and daily summaries. We've tried their competitor and it seems to us that Sophos is more optimized and works much faster using the same hardware. Cons Pricing. Pros Our admins love how Sophos UTM was so easy to deploy and manage. The console and dashboard is easy to get familiar with. We're kept up-to-date with all important events happening in our systems with just a quick glance. So far, the anti-spam filtering has been very effective and we hardly get any false positives. IP security is easy to set up and overall it works as a complete network tool. Big plus is the VPN capabilities that it comes bundled with. Other vendors charge a great sum for this as a separate module/function. Cons I would love to see a more detailed reporting tool. There are a lot of options for configuration although most of it are left untouched (set to default) as we still try to get a better grasp of how things work. Review Source Dann Dee O. The hardware that we are currently using can act as an endpoint protection controller, Wireless WiFi Controller (Sophos AP) and crude bandwidth manager. Cons The device is limited when it comes to detailed reports. You may need to dedicate another solution to make sure that events or key network matrices are available in a reasonable timespan. The best part of this tool is the VPN functionality which we find has helped us reduce on the number of network infections by over 80%! Cons I find the User Interface (UI) to be rather cumbersome and the feature set to be rather light in comparison to other tools. The quality and features grow every year, and there is very little it can't do. The HTML5 web interface for management is great and laid out quite well for finding what you want to configure or what reports you are looking for. Pros Using the UTM has been getting easier over the years. Managing and creating rules is much simpler than it used to be back when they were Astaro. Cons The licensing scheme was expensive. SMB will find this really good as an entry introduction to UTM protection. Works best if you pair up with their endpoint protection. Cons The XG seems to be plagued with multiple small but irritating issues. Seems like a beta product. Stick to the SG if possible. Sadly on the cloud platform, only the XG is available. I like being able to manage multiple machines online rather than using a local client. Cons It's a little oversimplified if anything, I have to trust that it's doing all of the right stuff when it runs.
