The ability to customize and create is awesome. Cons The software has many problems, not the least is ongoing issues with notifications not working, students not being able to access sometimes and outages. It seems like a beta product. There are far too many quirks to the product, which makes things difficult. We have had multiple glitches that have impacted user experience. Pros Blackboard Collaborate is easy to set up for the presenter and allows you to have multiple moderators right away when setting things up. This is a very positive feature. Cons In other software systems, you can see everyone at the same time. Blackboard doesn’t give you that option, and it is annoying. It was sooo much better than Canvas' associated software, and more robust than many other platforms I've used before. Pros I really liked how well it incorporated screen sharing on the desktop version as well as both publich chat and private chat features that worked really well. Cons There could be a lag, and sometimes we would all get kicked off the conference call. Occasionally it would refuse to do the screen share. Review Source Jaeger Z. Used the software for: ### "Not perfect, but pretty close" January 13, 2017 5.0 Blackboard expertly walks a very fine line between offering educators too much customization and having the less tech-savvy neglect their Blackboard pages, and offering too little customization and having barebones pages. Besides the cost (which can get a bit hefty for larger organizations but is more manageable at a smaller scale), there are very few actual drawbacks, and though I have not personally interacted with their customer support, by all accounts that I've heard the support is very responsive. The only real competitors that Blackboard has are alternatives like Moodle, which really pale in comparison to organizations of even moderate sizes. Pros Very high ease of use, lots of customization options for educators, and everything is integrated into one place, which makes life much easier for both students and educators. Cons Assignment submission can be vaguely clunky at times, and the site very occasionally goes down, but these are both just minor nuisances. Hopefully with new technology Blackboard can continue to improve. Pros Blackboard has brought Online education to the forefront. It has made it easier for students and teachers to connect remotely. This provides an increase of flexibility for both instructor and pupil. Cons There have been times that Blackboard is down or won't work with a certain computer that have caused issues. Occasionally the entire platform would freeze. There are also Bandwidth issues to deal with that I wish could be easier. I'm not sure how Blackboard could support with the data being transferred but would be wonderful if the connection could be improved at times. Review Source DP Daniel P. I feel that they have a complete product. Pros Recorded sessions are immediately available! No posting links or downloading necessary and Students can easily find the recorded sessions. Screen sharing is also good. I also like the fact that I can see what the students are seeing. Cons The video feature is good but not great - better on other platforms like Zoom. I was able to communicate with my coworkers that were in different buildings than I. Also, I was able to communicate with coworkers that were on different campuses. Overall, Blackboard Collaborate is a good way to interact with your counterparts on any given day. Pros I love collaborating with my coworkers and using this great interface to communicate effectively. I would use this software everyday because it was simple, easy to use, and comfortable. Cons I don't like how Blackboard Collaborate always starts when your computer starts up. It would be nice if it launched when you clicked on it instead of the other way around. November 28, 2018 5.0 Pros I was researching the conference platform and tried Blackboard Collaborate. It impressed me in a favorable way. It was easy to use, and I loved the image quality. Although highly recommended for education, it can also be used for business meetings. We used the trial version and it exceeded our expectations. Blackboard Collaborate makes it easy to have a fully-engaged audience without being physically present. You can communicate with the instructor or other students via audio or by typing messages. And it would allow you to record the session so that the students who miss it can have access to it at a later time. Cons You will need strong internet connection to make it work well. I don’t have to have long tutorials on how this product works because most students understand it. Pros The best thing about this design is that it is a shared experience with you and multiple users. It’s video and audio quality is clear. There is no lagging and it’s very simple to understand and use. It’s widely accepted at most of the US universities and allows for uniformed communication efforts. It also interfaces with several other software products. Its fast, efficient and part of a big ecosystem. Pros I really like the fact you can easily create teams, conferences and add users very efficiently. The sound and video quality are really good. Cons Unfortunately, Blackboard often faces issues such as screen sharing that does not actually share, and sometimes the connection speed is very slow.
