Pros: I am not an accounting professional but with a basic understanding of accounting principal, I have been able to use this software to organize my company for the last 10 years. I have made the switch in 2014 to the online version of it. It lets me to use the software anywhere including mobile device and I have been very happy with all the updates Intuit has been making last 3-4 years.

Cons: Everything about customer service. As a long time user, I know the infamous reputation of Intuit at every level. This is one of the SO MANY experiences I had: I had one issue that persisted since 2014. It was a simple issue, but it also caused me some great inconvenience. So I had been contacting them every now and then and the issue was not resolved until recently in 2018. It turned out to be it was as simple as clearing cache. However, every time I called, I had to explain the situation as if it's never been recorded, follow their instruction to do the troubleshooting, then they were puzzled how that happened, and then say that 'someone' will follow up. And THAT NEVER HAPPENED. I got so fed up and had to be on the phone more than 4 hours to a point that the issue was escalated to the presidents' office. I was told that there was a glitch in the system that I had to move to a new account. As they moved my data to a new account, I found out that it won't move credit card or social security info. As I was preparing for the final move, I realized that they have been charging me double. I requested to refund or extend the membership, but they did it again - made me wait for 1-2 hours, told me that I'll speak to a floor manager, then just transfer to another dpt- ALL THE TACTICS TO DISCOURAGE TO find the solution for the issue. Finally, they 'concluded' not to extend the membership with an excused made up they cannot provide in written permission. NEVER HAD SUCH BAD EXPERIENCE.

Comments: I feel that the support staff have been placed in a bad position because the software is still so buggy. They should not have released payroll until it was ready and the sales team needs to better set expectations. The support staff can only do so much with buggy software. In addition, the engineering team needs to be properly staffed to resolve critical bugs in a reasonable time frame. Over 1 month is unacceptable for a severe bug that is preventing use of the payroll module for more than one customer. I was torn between giving the software 2 or 3 stars because of the pros above but I think they should understand that they can't push out poor quality, incomplete modules to try to compete in the online market and not properly set expectations. There are good alternatives at this point.

Pros: Seamless integration with other software, electronic billing and payments, banking download and matching

Cons: Payroll is a disaster and payroll reports are really bad. I noticed that most reviews on here do not mention payroll and I'm sure that's because many don't have this functionality enabled. I feel that QBO is trying to push users toward their full service payroll service by not focusing their attention on this module. It is an absolute mess. First of all, there is no integration between QBDT and QBO payroll modules. The data does not transfer from one to the other well at all. What does transfer is very incomplete or incorrect data. The manual data entry required is tedious and very bug-filled so it doesn't work correctly and requires chat or call-ins to the support line to complete. The functionality does not allow for customization of the posting of deductions and causes a lot of manual follow-up work from payroll that is completely unnecessary and which didn't exist in QBDT. In addition, they have many more bugs once in "operation" and some are severe and some are minor but annoying. The severe make it so that I have not actually been able to run payroll in QBO yet though we switched on 5/19/17. I had to run two payrolls in QBDT so far and then manually reproduce them in QBO. That is pretty severe in my opinion but still no resolution from their team. I did get them to credit me the fees for the month. Others such as the Total Pay column being nonsensical and not matching the total of the Gross Wages plus other compensation are just really annoying. The fact that you can't customize payroll reports AT ALL is maddening. In addition to the above, there is an extremely annoying issue for nonprofits. If you select Nonprofit 501c3 as the type, you have to use "Pledges" as your terminology. You can't use "Invoices". I have worked around this by selecting Other/Not Sure as my type but it requires me to change it back whenever I set up a new employee in order to allow designating them as exempt from FUTA. So far, it seems to hold the exemption when switching it back to "Other". However, since I haven't been able to run a real payroll run yet, we will see. Many nonprofits don't utilize pledges and though you can customize the forms to read Invoice in the email, you can't change the language appearing on the Sales module and attached pdf invoices auto-name as Pledge #X when sending to customers.

Pros: I converted from QB Desktop Pro to QBO about a year ago, and it has been a game changer for me. Some pros:

1. The design is much more aesthetically pleasing and intuitive than QB Desktop. I now feel comfortable doing my own reconciliations rather than paying a bookkeeper, as it is much more natural than the steps required before.

2. I can easily add users and therefore don't need to pass the file back and forth. Before, I'd forget that my bookkeeper is working on my file and would make changes, which caused big problems. This is no longer an issue.

3. I can login anywhere.

4. The apps are a big deal for me. For example, I have an app called "Importer Pro" which allows me to import the schedule from my scheduling software. It then automatically generates and invoice for my clients, and it could also automatically generate an invoice for my independent contractors based on the work they do. This saves me about 25 hours per week. I could not have done this with QB Desktop.

Cons: There are two main (and large) problems I've found:

1. You cannot revert your company. So if you make a big error, or a disgruntled employee with QBO access logs in and messes everything up, there is no going back. That's a big issue. Luckily, it has not been a problem for us yet.

2. If you need to edit a past invoice, it deletes the description and changes the hour to 1. This became a problem for me when I realized that the line items were not mapped to the client, and I needed to change the "product/service" to something that is mapped to the client. Previously, I was using a generic term in "product/service" for all clients, not realizing it was an issue. However, I cannot go back through my past invoices and change the product/service because it will delete the description and edit the hours, which is way too time consuming to deal with. I have thousands of line items that are not mapped to the client.

I reported both of these issues to QBO. Asked to talk to a supervisor after the first person was very unhelpful and clearly not trained well. The supervisor said he would talk to the development team and call me back within 48 hours. That was months ago and of course, no call. Disappointing.

Quickbooks and Intuit are no longer the company they used to be. BEWARE.

Comments: Sad to see a company stop caring about their customers and look at how they can charge the customer more at every turn. Loyal customers like myself have helped support this company during its growth and we have stuck by Quickbooks during its growth and its challenges but now they are too big and they do not care about customers. We have to make a stand and support another company in hopes they will be better.

Cons: I have been using Quickbooks for over 10 years. I pay for a yearly subscription to update my software to the newest version, payroll software and pro-adviser support which Quickbooks themselves sold to me. Now when I have a problem, they tell me my files are corrupted. Also, they say I corrupted the files and it was not their system even though the files are on a secure server only running Quickbooks. Instead of fixing the problem their technical team wants to point fingers and is trying to charge me for more support. They do not care about the customer. They only want your money, and in today's world there are too many other options with companies who care about their bottom line AND THEIR CUSTOMERS. Also, I failed to mention their system did not update for the last few years since 2014 to the newer versions as it was supposed to and they tell me that is my fault as well but they gladly charged me every year for the new versions. I am a loyal quickbooks customer who uses both their online version and their desktop versions for over 20+ companies. This year I am transitioning every single company out of Quickbooks to a company that actually stands behind their product rather than points fingers and is always trying to get more money even after I purchased additional support which they advised me to buy.

Pros: Initially, before they took data away from the end user, I liked everything.

Cons: The customer service has become deplorable as of this writing. Never used to be that way. I have been without my payroll data since 1/16, and after 16 separate phone calls, each running through the same steps over and over, the same results. Nothing. Keep being informed that the "engineering team" is on it, but still no resolutions. They promise to call you back later that day, no call. So, I call back the next morning, and have to go through the entire scenario yet again. At this point in time, I'm researching other payroll companies. Intuit keeps sending me emails reminding me about payroll being due, tax forms being due... and I can't access any of the information to file it. Today, 4/19/16, I was told that there was a big software problem, that I wasn't the only one experiencing it... but, it literally took them 16 separate phone calls from me, no return phone calls from them AT ALL, and me finally getting angry and raising cain before they divulged that information. Not at all happy with Intuit right now. Several years ago, they surveyed users as to how to best run payroll. I was very VERY happy with having the data remain with me, backed up with them, and me filing electronically with the information in my computer. They decided to have everything "secured" in their hands. I stated my concern that the potential arrises to having our information trapped if they have any software or hardware issues... "Oh, no sir!! That would never happen!!" .... and now, I have zero access to my accounts and information. And the only response I got today after raising hell, is, "You have to wait and be patient, sir." ... I would have to say be cautious when deciding to use Intuit right now.

Recommendations to other buyers: Look elsewhere, check pricing. In just a few hours and a few phone calls, I've found some other companies that I have vetted lightly, and the pricing is roughly one quarter what Intuit is charging for what appears to be the same services. Check around first.

Pros: Quickbooks Online (for Australia) has great features. It has been around for a long time and has developed a really good platform. Features, such as inventory and payroll are well developed. The reporting available with QBO is excellent - very detailed and flexible.

Cons: When things go wrong...the service is very poor. I've had overseas staff who did not know the system, or how things work in Australia. I have had customer support staff not get back to me. And I've had them flat out tell me that they can't help.

Quickbooks is trying to buy market share in Australia, so they are offering significant discounts. This makes the software really affordable...but there is no telling how long these discounts will last. The expiration of a 50% discount may be a nasty surprise for a small business when it does go away. Which it will...at some point.

Don't get caught with the Self-Employed Sole Trader version of Quickbooks online. Your Accountant can't view your data, the reporting is poor and you can't migrate your data to other software. It is a very very basic accounting package...that is not very functional and provides no future proofing.

Overall: Quickbooks Online is great for businesses that have inventory, job management, budgetting or a large payroll. While these features are available with other software (such as Xero)...it is often for an additional cost. QBO includes these features in their offering. Great for retail, manufacturing and distribution-type businesses.

For service-based business that focus on services, such as consultants, professionals or creatives I would recommend Xero as a better alternative.

Pros: It's up time is tremendous. It's prettier than it used to be and getting a little prettier by the year. (The Benjamin Button of Software). It doesn't crash in the middle of doing stuff. Their support is very responsive. API plugins. Yeah, high marks, mostly.

Cons: 3 things:

1. Emailing invoices. They don't have good alerts for when you have a bad email address for a customer and this can kill.

2. They don't have a way of automatically adding late payment penalties into the invoicing process. We had to plug in some outside software through an API to effectively deal with this.

3. Somewhat related to #2, it seems weak on automated collection efforts to me.

4. I've pointed out a bug to them twice and it is still not fixed, 3 yrs or more later. Silliest thing. Used to work beautifully, but when they got prettier, it doesn't work anymore. What? Adding on another invoice to pay to a vendor after you have come to the payment process through the "Pay Bills" process. It wants to subtract instead of add. (the most odd thing) (they hae offered work arounds that are not viable and just won't get it fixed.. or haven't)

5. The block "Ctrl Clicking" in places when it would be really handy to open multiple tabs when editing a bunch of stuff. This forces you to come back to the list, and search again and again instead of keeping the searched list in place. Maybe there is some reason for this burdensome navigation.

Overall: Cloud based accounting. Reliability. Various user roles is nice.

Comments: This software is simply amazing! I was on vacation in California last year and my business is Kansas City, MO. I had a client reach out needing copies of her service invoices sent to her lawyer by the end of business day. I was able to jump on a computer at the place I was staying and log in to my companies Quickbooks and meet my customer's need. I guess I would have assumed it would work since it is online, but to see it work in a situation like the one I was in, made me extremely happy.

Pros: Quickbooks Online was a game changer for my business. It has paid for itself 100 times over simply because I can more accurately see where my company is spending money. It also allows me to track where a job came from so I can see, in a matter of seconds, where all my jobs came from and how much I earned. This has helped me stop spending money on marketing or advertising is areas that weren't profitable. The second best thing is that it makes getting customer's copies of their invoices a breeze and looks very professional. We are a small business and referrals are very important and clients feel more secure with a company that has such a professional accoutning system. My third favorite thing is QuickBooks On the Go payment options. It has the lowest processing fee I could find, it is extremely simply to set up and use, and it makes accounting easier because Quickbooks automatically seperates the fee from the profit correctly.

Cons: The only cons are based off of user error and personal lack of Quickbooks software and accounting. However, I have an amazing accountant who handles our Quickbooks. He is patient and also helps me learn how to use the basic functions.

Pros: Its very easy to use and pretty intuitive. If you need help a Google search usually helps you find the answer you're looking for. As far as functionality goes, its so easy to use to invoice and track payments. We have subscription based payments as well as payments for services rendered. We also have divisions. Quickbooks Online allows you to track everything together or, in divisions so if we want to see how a division is performing we can. There are multiple ways to track numbers so all of the different reports that are available is just great. I like the online QB because both me and my bookkeeper can log on at any time. The big Pro to QB Online is its integration with so many different softwares and platforms and they even have a WordPress Plugin I believe. We recently started using an online proposal software and it integrates with QB Online so our Bookkeeper no longer has to manually enter in new client info, the proposal software adds all the information for us!

Cons: I wish there was a live chat or some kind of customer service to interact with. I'm not a fan of typical Help pages because I can never seem to find exactly what I'm looking for, so I always like software that is backed by live people who are there when you need them.

Overall: Easy bookkeeping with all the different report types that we need. We can track divisions as well as overall company income/ expenses.

Pros: It is a very good product as far as features and layout. Very easy to navigate around the screens in different tabs. It has some basic project costing ability, not great but better than Xero for example. The mobile app is quite good.

Cons: The BIG worry is the lack of backup of database, lack of long term file retention in the event of closure of the account. As far as backup of data, the ability to download excel spreadsheets is available for most areas. But this needs to be done manually and for at least 7 or more different areas in QBO. So a significant workload for a system that promotes itself as time-saving. Some areas cannot be downloaded in bulk, for example, attached receipts. They can be downloaded one by one but after a year there may be thousands. Why the need to download? Well often a business closes and the account is closed (70% of small businesses close within 12 months) files are only retained for 12 months then deleted by QuickBooks. But the law in most countries requires files to be retained for 7 years for audits etc. Effectively then all paperwork used to enter data into QBO needs to be held for 6 years after closing the QBO account. Isn't the purpose of QBO to go paperless? Other online cloud accounting competitors store the data indefinitely and they say they will reopen a file for you in the future. (probably for a fee) I won't state the particular competitor so it doesn't appear that I am promoting another accounting system. I hope QBO rectify this as it is the only serious issue I have with the product.

Pros: I have been using QuickBooks since 1992 as the CFO for a company with 50 employees. Currently, I am the treasurer for a non-profit and I am again using QuickBooks. I trained our bookkeepers, our financial managers, and worked without accountants to make sure that the software served our needs.QuickBooks is an easy program to use because it is logical, almost intuitive, and it can be adapted to the specific needs of the business. We are audited every year, and QuickBooks provide us with all the information we need and the ability for our Auditor to review it, correct, and verify it through the audit.

Cons: The format of the reports. While it is very easy to create multiple reports and customize them, the standard reports are sometimes cumbersome. Also, now that I am using QuickBooks for a nonprofit, I would really like to make it a requirement for the user to select a Type of Customer when setting up a customer. Our nonprofit organization has clients, donors, foundations, and corporate donors; all these types have previously been set up. However, when the person entering the data is keying in the individual entries, there is no requirement that they select the type of customer. This means that I have to review all transactions before creating the Accountant's Copy for the Auditor, at the end of the year, in order to generate the reports we need.

Pros: It's accessibility from multiple locations and different platforms.

Cons: I feel like the online banking and matching with transactions never seems to work. We have also had issues with filing of our payroll taxes. The forms are automatically submitted but from time to time the numbers are incorrect and we end up overpaying or underpaying.

Overall: We have been using Quickbooks Online since its early release and it has been a pivotal piece of software for our company. QuickBooks Online can be accessed from anywhere. There is no need to have to go to the office to get work done. It can be done 24/7 from anywhere. I work for numerous locations and I am able to update billing and client information without having to go to our office location to get work done. Likewise, I don't have to have a remote server running Quickbooks.

While they are improving on the product, there are aspects that are not intuitive. Right clicking and opening in a new tab does not actually duplicate in a new tab. You have to take several more clicks to do so. At first, when using multiple companies, it is difficult to remember what to click to get into the actual company. It seems several tasks take too many clicks then what should be necessary. I feel like there is a lot of competition with them and Xero and these simple interface upgrades would give them more of an edge.

Recommendations to other buyers: Take time to read the online resources. Also understand that it's a web application so it is constantly evolving. One disappointment is that we'll have a feature (such as the recent transactions window) that we get comfortable using, and then they will move that feature (or remove it completely) in a later release.

Pros: Cheap, accessible, pretty good phone support. Intuit also offers credit card processing which ties in pretty easily with QBO software.

Cons: Complicated accounting system which is not intuitive. Easy to make a huge mess of many, many transactions before you realize it.

Overall: I have been using QBO via a web browser, iPhone app, iPad app and Mac based app for about 3 years. There are some cool things available such as reports, the ability to collect payments online, and convenience of mobile apps. However, if you are not familiar with double entry accounting or standard accounting practices, nightmares may ensue. After 3 years, I can manage my small business *most* of the time without having tantrums when things don't match up. I've read a lot online and even ordered books about how to properly use the software and I still have trouble sometimes.

I don't think this is the ideal solution for people who want a simple way to track money in and money out. It's probably too complicated for many small business people, including me. The reason I continue to use it is because it's one of the cheaper options and I'm used to it. I've considered switching to waveapps several times and do use that one for some of my business transactions.

My advice is that if you're going to use QBO, take time to learn how to set it up and use it correctly. If you don't you may end up spending many hours trying to fix months of incorrect entries. It's kinda complicated!

Recommendations to other buyers: Educate yourself on how to do correct set-up and maintenance of the software before you ever start!

Pros: I like how I can use it as the one place to go to find accounting info about my business. My cards are all linked, so I can just visit QBO to see transactions. I use it to run payroll and keep track of employee details for HR purposes. I like how I can use it to file my taxes 80% on my own, with only some assistance from a professional accountant. I can use QBO to run reports to get insights on my finances for budgeting and strategy. Expenses can be kept track of very easily.

Cons: QBO does occasionally have some bugs. I had a bug with connecting to my bank, and it resulted in me losing a lot of work. The search function in QBO at times can seem like a joke, and it does not live up to other insightful search functions in other software programs. Often times searching for something that I know is in QBO somewhere, pulls 0 results.

Reconciling accounts can be a big pain, and it can be easy to let things get messy especially as it relates to payroll. You really need to make sure you're on top of payroll and understand every aspect of how paychecks are calculated.

Moving transactions from one Chart of Accounts to another one is not as simple as it may seem. If, for example, I wanted to break down my "supplies" account into two more detailed accounts, it is not a simple process to mass select transactions and move to a new account.

Overall: Saving time and money by not using spreadsheets or relying on an accountant to do everything for me. I studied accounting quite a bit in college, so I know the basics of ledgers, financial statements, etc, so I really do feel confident filing a lot of my reports on my own and using my skills i've learned to save me money.

Pros: This program is decent to give a detailed snapshot on a P&L and Balance Sheet. Direct deposit options make payroll simple to use and process and there are no fees for every payroll processed...just one simple fee.

Cons: When issues arise it is extremely difficult to get in touch with someone that is familiar enough with complicated issues to assist without being on the phone for HOURS. If there are mistakes with reconciliation, I need to contact my accountant to correct it. As an admin user I should have the ability to have 100% full control of my account and make any necessary corrections. QBO should integrate with more programs similar to that of OB Desktop.

Overall: Quickbooks Online has many features that make it beneficial for a small business. However, when issues arise it is extremely difficult to get in touch with someone that is familiar enough with complicated issues to assist without being on the phone for HOURS. If there are mistakes with reconciliation, I need to contact my accountant to correct it. As an admin user I should have the ability to have 100% full control of my account and make any necessary corrections. The program as a whole is satisfactory for small businesses to get a decent and detailed snapshot of P & L and a balance sheet. QBO should integrate with more programs similar to that of OB Desktop.

Recommendations to other buyers: It would be best if account/business managers were assigned to each company for a point of reference so as issues arise, they can be addressed without having to explain the issue multiple times to multiple different people, getting multiple different "solutions".

Pros: This product from Intuit, easy to use, full functioning as an accounting software for small businesses. you can easy get started within up to 4 minutes, dig in all administration roles, getting familiar with it, and create your own company. follow up your banks accounts through the available integration between this software and your bank. additional to that you can check in any moment the Chang-Log to every one who just post, add, edit any transaction on the system. a great feature through it, the massive available integration with other softwares especially the POS systems like Vend, Revel. it does really save time and money. I do really enjoyed using this software as a small business.

Cons: as I clarified above this system great for small businesses, for whom bigger than these ones. unfortunately you have to find another solution. the essential point for refusing such one, the Manufacturing service in the accounting systems; it's really important for us the system who we're working on provide the ability to mix multi row materials into one final product. another point, for the users authorities, we can't use it when we have more than one shop and we want to assign a user to a specific store, in doing so we have to establish separate company account for each one to be able to assign the users to their outlets.

Pros: Power & Functionality in the cloud world.

Cons: Pricing can be expensive over the life of a subscription.

Overall: QBO has made some major advances in recent years/months due to the pressure of other cloud-based accounting suites trying to steal Intuit's market share, and these advances have benefited us as end-users. Though the interface and forms-based entry is a little different than the desktop software, the functionality in QBO is realistically quite similar to the Desktop version.

I have not found many limitations to QBO that require any kind of work-arounds, but at the same time, I have had some trouble with software bugs and down-time. I don't think I've experienced as much as others I have heard from, but I have run across a few issues. In comparison to the desktop software, the bugs I've encountered in QBO are almost inconsequential. When you have a bug in the desktop software, it is usually a corrupt file or the loss of information, which I have never encountered with QBO.

There are a couple bells/whistles that are missing from this, like the ability to print signatures on checks, but I usually recommend against that for safety reasons anyway.

On the bright side, I have seen QBO respond to feedback and implement the changes they have heard from customers, so I know that they are continually improving. At this point, I think QBO still stands out above other cloud-accounting software for its power and ability to handle many industries.

Recommendations to other buyers: Find a prodavisor to make sure your setup is done correctly at the beginning. Clean-up can be time consuming down the road if the software isn't integrated and setup correctly with any add-ons.

Pros: Quickbooks online is quite self intuitive. If you need help, there is an online community that most likely has asked any question or problem you come across. The few times I have called the help desk, they have been extremely helpful and patient. A real person answers the phone. You don't have to wait for someone to get back with you. We also recently started using Job Nimbus to manage our customer information, and Quickbooks syncs to Job Nimbus, which is a nice plus. It's nice that you don't have to worry about updating software, because since we use the online version, the latest version is always available. Sometimes we have to do estimates or get to info when we're out in the field, and can access everything from a mobile device.

Cons: My only real con is that the price goes up after the trial period. I wish there could be one software platform that does it all--accounting, customer management, document storage and contract signature capabilities.

Pros: As a self-employed web developer, I need all the help I can get with accounting and managing expenses. I first started using Quickbooks Online in 2014, and have seen the product grow and improve significantly over the years. I use the software for invoicing, expenses, 1099 forms, and a few other features. It makes me worry less about accounting and taxes and focus more on what I do best: making the internet a better place, one website at a time.

Cons: For me, there's an overwhelming amount of features that I haven't even used yet, which can be a bit intimidating, especially for someone who runs his business in a very DIY manner. I've noticed the dashboards can be a bit cumbersome when it comes to generating reports and finding basic items for when I need to invoice my clients, but after some time I was able to get over it.

Overall: While I know a lot of people who use other ways to handle and manage accounting, I use and recommend Quickbooks for the simple fact that it integrates with nearly all banks and institutions, and I can send my QB information to my accountant anytime. I'll take peace of mind in exchange for an overwhelming amount of tools and extraneous features any day.

Comments: One of my QBO Payroll clients has a VERY UNIQUE problem with the naming of a payroll category (Case#516 495 978 and Case#516 903 347). I've called three times for tech support and have been escalated to the Back End team, but each time I'm told that since I'm the only client with this problem it probably won't be resolved because they only address problems with the highest number of complaints. After Jan 1, 2018 I won't be able to process this client's payroll unless the QuickBooks team fixes this problem. It shouldn't take more than a few moments to resolve but QB Back End will not even look at it. So WHERE DOES THAT LEAVE ME?

Pros: Easy to train new staff on how QBO works. Very intuitive, if you're a new user with a question but you look at the page long enough you'll probably find an answer. I love the screen layout and response speeds . After using QBO for 3 years I don't want to convert back to QB Desktop. All but one of my clients have made the switch to QBO.

Cons: Annual price increases of 20-35% for QBO services. Once Intuit has you sucked into QBO they really 'lower the boom' on clients with these annual increases. Reporting is not as robust as QB Desktop. Conversions from QB Desktop don't bring across prior YTD Payroll data.

Comments: QuickBooks online is pretty easy to use for a total non-accountant entrepreneur. Setting it up and using it was pretty easy. Of course I made accounting mistakes along the way as I muddled along but once I hired a bookkeeper, it was easy for her to fix, clean up, and streamline my accounting practices. Even though she had never worked with the online version before, she quickly adapted.

Pros: QuickBooks Online is just what it says. I never have to worry about saving my work or updates. It just takes care of itself that way. When I am away from my office, I can use my iPad or iPhone to do a quick check on my accounts, edit an invoice and send it on it's way. My bookkeeper has equal access and can create checks and invoices for me to approve. It is seamless.

Cons: I don't "own" my accounting software. This is handled with a yearly subscription and the prices can go up in the future. QuickBooks online is its own environment. For someone used to working with any other version, there is a bit of a learning curve to convert to the way that things are done in the online version. The learning curve is not very steep, however, and can be overcome in a very short time.

Comments: when I start the business, people recommended QuickBooks to me, and I have been using it for almost 2 years. I must say I really like it. I currently use QB payroll and QB online, and it can help me to manage my business already, and it is easy to use. In QB payroll, we can direct deposit salary for each employee, also it can pay all the taxes automatically, generate report automatically, send reminder to me when I have to pay employee, and all the records are in QB, I say it saved me a lot of CPA money and saved a lot of trouble of calculation etc... In QB online, I use it set up the customer, tracking inventory quantity, manage profit, and loss, balance sheet, review business reports. I basically use it every single day. when I first get started, I do have questions, and QB customer service is always helpful. They are creditably friendly and helpful. I get a lot of training from them, it is such a good experience to talk to customer service team, and every time they know the answer to the question. I don't have to call help line too much anymore as I am getting used to the QB Overall, QB is a great software for start-up companies. It can save you a lot of time and money, and well manage the business

Pros: 1. easy to use, pretty straight forward 2. The QB on-line version covers pretty much everything except the inventory control ( bin locations) 3. Linked with our bank, we can do reconcile easily at QB 4. QB payroll is easy to set up, once set up, just click buttons to get things done 5. Great customer service, I enjoyed every agent I speak with, and thanks for all their help

Cons: 1. The iPhone APP seems not so strong, I can't check my inventory quantity, nor my cost. But sometimes when I am traveling, it is easier if I can get this info from my phone 2. There are some actions can't be undone, but it is understandable

Recommendations to other buyers: If you are looking for a software to manage a start up business, I would recommend QB. Just make sure spend some time play with the software when you first start using it, and maybe get a basic training from somebody.

Pros: - As a single-member S-Corp consulting business, QuickBooks Online was more than enough for me to manage my own finances and payroll. It's extremely friendly for non-accountants.

- At the end of the year, you will easily find many certified QuickBook accountants who can do your business taxes by simply inviting them to your account

- Large community with many Q&A available in their public forums. If you run into unusual situations, the community will help you correctly record it in your account. They're friendly to beginners and those who are not familiar with tax laws.

- Lastly, most impressive, when I decided to shutdown my business. QuickBooks Online had a feature to export all of your finances and records! Other competitors who I had tried in the past, had only "import" feature and then they lock you in by not allowing you to export or view your records unless you pay the monthly subscription fees. QuickBook has really impressed me with this ethical mindset.

Cons: - I was unhappy that they somewhat made it a hassle to reach support by making it available via phone only. With busy schedule, I appreciate writing my inquiries via email and forget about them to focus on my other tasks. QuickBooks Online forces you to call support by phone for inquiries

- I believe their pricing needs to be updated with rise of competition, especially for payroll features.

Overall: - Simple accounting for business owners who want to avoid hiring dedicating expensive accountants to manage their daily finances

- Very easy to set up payroll

- Simple and quick e-file for taxes

Pros: QuickBooks offers several plans based on your financial needs and I consider it an ideal accounting software for small businesses but it also has the capacity to cover the needs for mid-sized businesses too. The interface seems user-friendly enough as I can view my expenses, invoices, sales, etc. all on my dashboard and everything else can be accessed from the sidebar or just clicking "see all activity" in the lower right hand corner of the page. All the customization options for invoices allows me to add a personal touch when sending them to clients and I can also choose to send reminders or make my invoices recurring as well. When lending money to clients, you always want to make sure that their contact information is up to date and the contact management system makes it easier for me to see all my clients' information in one place, especially if I need to get in touch with them or review their contracts. What really makes QuickBooks worth it, is the payroll which comes at an additional cost. Setting it up is extremely easy and you can also set reminders so your employees are paid on time.

Cons: Despite the detailed dashboard, there was a learning curve as some features were hard to access because they were tucked away in the settings.

Overall: Using QuickBooks allows me to fulfill the financial needs of our company independently.

Comments: I used to hate this but now we have nearly all of our clients on it. And I have come to like it, though it is different than QuickBooks Desktop.

Pros: Since QBO is cloud based and comes in 3 "flavors", it is a good solution for small businesses and allows for collaboration between the business and the accountant. It (if set up properly) flows the business data in the online tax solution for easy of tax prep. I like the QB Online Accountant features such as "Work" for communication with the client and other team members, though "Work" is not a complete practice management tool. They are continuously improving the product (no new software to buy and versions are not sunsetted), and there is lots of training available online and through webinars. There is security and there are lots of connected apps to meet needs of various businesses and industries.

Cons: If your internet is poor or you don't keep your browser clean you might not be able to work efficiently. There is no discount for annual payment so you are stuck with the monthly subscription for the level you choose. Since they update it frequently it can be a little disorienting when things change. Updates are not rolled out to everyone at the same time.

This is THE standard! Easy and reliable.

Pros: Super easy and intuitive to use. The dashboard is great. It gives a nice overview of what's going on...income, expenses, aging invoices, etc. It's nice to get a snapshot of our accounts when I fist logon. I love the ability for our clients to pay directly from an emailed invoice...just click the pay now button and that's it. It helps speed up the payment process. I also really like the "send reminder" feature for invoices that are aging. Overall, this was a HUGE improvement to the desktop version of QB. And giving multiple team members access to the software has saved a TON of time, since they can help clients rather than having to forward to our payables person.

Cons: I don't like the way the auto credit card payment feature is set up. In QB desktop, you could create a recurring CC transaction, which would then be applied to the client's invoice. Not so with QB Online. The payment logs as a sales receipt, but there's not way to automatically apply it to that client's invoice.

Functionality Gaps and Decline in Customer Service

Comments: We have a small family owned business and have been using QB for Mac 2014 for about 18 months, along with Intuit Payroll for Mac and GoPayments for credit card processing. Our accountant lives 3000 miles away so we agreed that QB Online would be a great way to allow her access and share information. Well, I cancelled my subscription the day after signing up! Shortly after trying the online version, my desktop login's corrupted so I had to spend over an hour on the phone with customer service only to be told it is not a software problem and that the tech team can restore it for $250-$750! When also tried to charge me $59.85 for the call after the fact - absolutely no disclosure up front that I may have to pay for her help!

Pros: The desktop software meets our basic needs for providing estimates, invoicing, running payroll and running credit card payments. The online version has some great benefits like the ability to share with my accountant, and the ability to access all our customer information via our portable devices. The migration from our desktop version to QB Online went fine, and I loved the fact I could see all my data and reports on my iPad. However, that's where the benefits ended!

Cons: Desktop version for Mac is more limited - a sad reality that I had hoped the online version would fix. Well, our Intuit Payroll for Mac cannot be imported automatically so I had to manually add our payroll data for 2015, and reapply for the e-file services. Then I find out that I cannot input prior year payroll history. The real killer came when I uploaded our logo and wanted to design our customer forms in keeping with our marketing style. I tried using the online forms and was immediately disappointed by the inability to move and add fields, and I was unable to resize our logo due to the limitation of the field. So I looked for an app to upload a customized form - there is none! Intuit's engineering and development teams need to spend time on the community and actually use the software. This is unacceptable for the leader in this industry!

Pros: Accessible anywhere and nice new dashboard.

Cons: Customer Service can be slow sometimes overloaded. Found out somehow enrolled for payroll option but have never signed up for payroll nor do I have employees. They did cancel and offer me credit for the overcharge. Seems they are growing into themselves with a lot of small issues that amount to big problems sometimes.

Overall: QBO is a fundamental program for our business, we rely on it daily. For this reason, I high expectations for its performance and ease of use. Its recently updated interface is nicer with a more graphic dashboard. 2 years ago I wanted to throw it out the window as it was actually creating false information on our statements and creating deposits that never happened. These issues seem to have calmed down. Customer Service has been Hot and Cold, unfortunately, more cold. Long wait times and lengthy 'fix' discussions with issues. Fortunately, my bookkeeper deals with most of these calls so I only get the stress second hand. Reporting features have been stepped up as well but could use more ease of drilling down to specific details. For not really having another small business accounting platform available QBO has been our partner for over 5 years now.

Comments: This is great software for small to medium businesses. There is a learning curve if you are used to the desktop version, and if you are a person who uses desktop and does not upgrade it each year, online can be more costly. It does allow you to access it from anywhere, anytime and does alleviate some concerns about losing all of your business data from a computer crash or virus. Customer service is also top notch. I had an issue getting one of my clients signed up for the correct version of online QB, and then my computer died. It took me 2 days to get up and running again and the rep I was dealing with continued to call me to follow up and make sure I was able to resolve the issue for my client. This is one company where I think their customer service is extraordinary.

Pros: This software allows me as an accountant to offer on the spot assistance and answers to clients without requiring remote access or, a visit to their office. It has many of the same features as desktop Quickbooks at around the same cost.

Cons: It does not have job costing capabilities would be helpful although, there is a work around to accomplish this.

Comments: When reading reviews or searching for answers in the intuit community - be sure to check the post dates. If they are older than 2015 - consider it an old issue and look for more current details.

Pros: My favorite part of quickbooks online is the download from bank accounts, credit card accounts and 3rd party payment processors. As a long time quickbooks user from its early desktop days, the integration of financial information shared with accountants makes any difficulty in moving to quickbooks online so worth it! No more accountant copies, no more waiting for someone else to finish so you can do what you need to.

Cons: The sales report for sales by product summary shows percentage of sales out to the thousandth decimal point - really distracting. There are some differences in how information is reported that when compared to the desktop means for many old school accountants the reports may not appear accurate. HOWEVER - for general businesses - this is a non-issue. The general rule is be consistent.

Pros: It is pretty intuitive and easy to navigate. The online feature is great because I can access it at anytime from any computer. It directly links with my bank accounts and credit cards so all of my transactions are brought over to quickbooks with the click of a button. I am then easily able to categorize the expenses and deposits keeping everything well organized. Can also easily run a multitude of different reports to analyze our year's financials. Has some advanced features that I haven't got to yet. Overall, a great program that anyone can learn to use.

Cons: One of my main gripes with the software is the inability to link similar income and expense accounts. As a non-profit, we plan a lot of festivals and events. I create an income category for the event as well as an expense category. That way I can easily see what was spent on the event and how much we took in. The system does not allow me to link these to categories and show balances so I can easily see if the event made money or lost money. Instead I have to look separately at the income category and the expense category and subtract the difference from the totals. Maybe there is a better way to do this that I don't know but so far I have found no way to link categories like this.

Overall: Able to keep track of every penny spent and earned.

Pros: I like that I can access the information from anywhere, and not just from one computer.

One of the features I use the most is copying transactions, it's kind of hidden under the "More" option, but it's super helpful when logging things repeatedly.

Also the Recurring Transactions section is great, my business has a lot of online resources that we pay for each month or each quarter, and that section saves a lot of time. It's also great whenever get a new credit card, b/c essentially a list of most of the places our credit card info is on file, so we know where to go to change the info.

Cons: I usually find it pretty annoying that I can't open transactions up in multiple tabs, since the transactions will only pull up in the current tab. I guess I get why, you don't want to make a mistake or double log something b/c you lose track of tabs. But I still get annoyed with it.

And I'm not a professional accountant, but I here some of the more complex features of QuickBooks aren't on the online version.

Overall: I'm not a professional or trained accountant, so I do have to get help on some concepts that I don't understand. But I'm able to keep track of all of our expenses, do invoicing, run P&L reports, reconcile accounts, I'm able to do all the important stuff. And since so many other people/businesses use it, it's pretty easy to Google things when I have questions.

Comments: Don't do it!!!!! If you are using the desktop version then keep using it until Quickbooks stops producing it and then transition over to another product if the online version is not up to speed by then.

Pros: Convenience of having access from anywhere. I can work from home or while away from the office and even from my smart phone.

Cons: It is so slow I cant get anything done! When we first switched from the desktop version 3 years ago I estimated it takes 10 time longer to perform transactions that took a split second on the desktop version. I made it a point to just cut out anything that wasn't absolutely necessary. The past few months it has become so slow! Try editing a customers transaction and be prepared to do something else for over a minute while it is being opened! I can't do this anymore! It's ruining my bookkeeping and its wasting our time! Problem is I've been using Quickbooks since I started my business in 1997 and every customer and every transaction is there! This is a nightmare!

Comments: If QBO is set up and used properly, it can handle all bookkeeping and even basic inventory functions for most businesses. Usually people don't like it because they have not been trained well on it's features and processes. Overall, it's a great program.

Pros: QBO covers all the basic functions of bookkeeping and having it online allows for easy access from anywhere. It has great 3rd party integrations to help streamline processes such as sales recording and email marketing. The dashboard lets you see quickly how your company is doing and lists balances for connected accounts. It's easy to create sales receipts or invoices and enter expenses or bills. Reports are great and easy to customize.

Cons: The customer and vendor search feature does not work well sometimes. The sales tax feature works well but is difficult to use for new customers. Some of the reports can't be customized the way I would like. The recurring transactions should have better tutorials.

Pros: Being a fresher in accounts you really need to understand each and every module precisely. Quickbooks is a great help for me. I really liked the interface , easy set up and the process of doing each and every part of it. Whether it is Invoicing/ applying payment or creating Balance sheet/ profit Loss sheet, its worth. As it is cloud based, so it is easily accessible from all devices. Along with all this I would really like to appreciate quickbooks Customer Support. Also it connects to bank easily so you apply payment to open Invoices ; you can track your expenses, extract all your payments and maintain financial reports.

I have all good things to say about this software. Just loving it!!!

Cons: Nothing as such. Once you go to through all the tutorials you can easily understand Quickbooks.

Overall: We were using our internal software for generating invoices and for all other documentations. But as there were limitations, it was becoming very difficult for us to maintain all the records.

I discussed all the things with my CEO and told him to move to some standard software which with provide us a professional approach towards accounting. The one software I found on internet which will give one perfect solution to all your problems is QB only.

Pricing is good and overall its the best product for accounting.

QBO helps me keep my business expenses up to date and keeps my corporate accountant happy!

Pros: I'm not an accountant or bookkeeper by education or experience. And while I have plenty of experience in dissecting P & L statements, I did not have any real prior experience keeping the books on business ventures. Once you understand the basic requirements of bookkeeping, QBO makes it very easy to keep up with expenses and income and easily produce reports that my accountant can use and rely upon.

Cons: QBO makes it extremely easy for novice "bookkeepers" to start using the software right away. With a bare minimum of online training, is extremely tempting for new users to jump right in and start making entries. The downside is that it is also extremely easy for novices to make some horrifyingly egregious bookkeeping errors. Fixing those errors is not necessarily intuitive and often requires substantial help from someone much more skilled with QBO to fix the problems. I am not a fan of overpaying for software add-ons, but in the case of QBO, it might be helpful to many new users to include in their new subscription a voucher for professional QBO company set-up. That voucher could be used for any QBO certified bookkeeper, to ensure setup is done properly. If the voucher is truly not needed, then the new user gets a credit toward QBO renewal.

Comments: It's a decent product for the price. It's been instrumental in helping us manage our small business. I do wish it was on par with the desktop version. Customer Service is always cheerful, pleasant and helpful to the best of their ability, but even they are lost with some questions we've had.

Pros: It is a very user friendly program. The ability to link directly to the bank account and update information almost immediately is extremely beneficial. Having access to customer information, estimates and invoices while on the road from a smart phone is a tremendous time saver and allows us to collect money on site.

Cons: The interface and functions are constantly changing. As soon as you grow accustomed to performing tasks a certain way, it is changed without warning or documentation for a new process. It is VERY difficult to find accountants who are familiar with the online version. Not all features of the desktop version are available online. Report options disappear.

Comments: As a CPA I provide client accounting services and only recommend QBO to all of my clients.

Pros: QuickBooks Online is a true accounting software package. Intuit is constantly making improvements and adding features to make this product as good or better than QuickBooks Desktop. There are also multiple versions of the product with different price points so you only need to buy the bells and whistles if it is appropriate for your business. Your data lives in the cloud, so no worries about keeping it backed up, or data corruption of a file on your local server. If you need additional features that are not available in the QuickBooks Online, the software also integrates very seamlessly with a huge number of cloud based 3rd party applications.

Cons: Not easy for the business person to set up. It is really helpful to have a basic understanding of bookkeeping to use the softare

Pros: We really like that QBO syncs reliably with our banking/credit accounts. It makes it so much easier to catch tiny transactions that occur throughout the month, versus waiting until our statement is available and trying to guess what that little purchase three weeks ago was for (especially if you have someone in your office who perpetually looses receipts). Using the online version of QB ensures that the software is always up-to-date. We also like that it helps us file and pay our taxes efficiently.

Cons: We've found that the load-time is a little slow, when moving between different parts of the QBO website. We also wish it would sync a little better with our time-tracking software. It gets more than the basics done, but there are a few small features that would really help us out. Customer service/tech help has been good, although it can take a while to get a hold of someone who can help.

Overall: We like that it's online, so accessible anywhere, anytime. It helps us keep good track of our customers' invoices and our employees' billed time.

Pros: Quickbooks Online has a simple, modern look, and is easy to access from anywhere. I like that it helps me keep an eye on the general state of my accounts. Payroll is very easy to run, and paying taxes is wonderfully simple.

Cons: I don't understand why there are so many fewer features on the online version than the local computer version. It would be great to expand how I use QB online, but it is still lacking many features. As a non-profit doing fund accounting and handling many reimbursable grants, it's just very hard to do most of this in QB online. There's is no budget option in the online version. I can make it work but I am finding that I am doing less and less in QBO and more via spreadsheets.

Overall: There's nothing else that compares for the price, simplicity, and ability to integrate with many other programs. If the price were higher, it would be a different story. But as is, it gets the basic jobs done.

Pros: Works OK 90% of the time until you have a problem or they dislike your business.

The payments option was nice, but just wait until you have to call or email for help.

Cons: I'll be looking to avoid all Intuit software from now on after this. Seems they do not like your second amendment rights and held up my transactions since my business is "firearms related" Even though I don't sell ammunition, firearms or restricted parts of any type.

They held my deposits and demanded information for legitimate transactions. Made me wait forever on hold and multiple calls just to get my payments released. I'll be looking for new business and tax software now. Recently the online version has become very buggy and dropping the connection also. It is also not worth the monthly cost for this headache.

Overall: None since I will be changing to a company that supports my rights ASAP!

Pros: What I like most about the software is convenience. You do not need to manually back-up your entries since it is online. You can easily attach documents such as invoices or receipts. Data entry in general is a lot easier, especially when you try to allocate/separate expenses. Searching expenditures, vendors, donors etc. is a lot easier through a click of a button.

Cons: Not very user friendly. The only reason I was somewhat familiar with QB online was because I had some experience with the Quickbooks Desktop software. The tutorials are often too long (videos are 6-30 minutes) to find out how to do a simple task on the software. I spent a lot of time trying to play around with the website to get used to where things are and how to perform certain tasks.

Overall: I love that it is very convenient and common. A lot of organizations and vendors use QB online, so communicating with them and interacting with other organizations are a lot easier (for example, making payments to other organizations/companies through QB, sending out invoices, or notices about payment).

Pros: QuickBooks is generally easy to use and is visually pleasing. It can generate many different types of reports that are useful to look at throughout the business day and week and makes it easy to track when invoices are outstanding.

Cons: the price you pay for using it can be fairly catastrophic for a small business owner as they not only take a monthly fee, but a percentage of your transactions that is higher than going directly through a credit card processor. I have also had extremely negative experiences with their customer support team and have found them generally unable to help. We have also experienced a multitude of issues in syncing QuickBooks with our bank account and credit card, and also have one payment that has been pending via QuickBooks for nearly three months with no clear explanation. I wish there was a better alternative.

Pros: I have been using QB online for almost 5 years for work and when we needed something to manage our HOA we got it to send out dues notices and manage our banking. For work we have several different companies on one log in to manage the different aspects of the different businesses. Reports are easy to run and are easy to save and share

Cons: I wish there was an easier way to get to products and pricing. You should be able to click on a product from a PO and update to current price instead of saving PO and then going into products and services and then find it to update. Also after you do review a product and price it does not take you back to the same screen. It only gives you the option to go back to reports...I wasn't even on a report screen so it is a challenge to update item prices or descriptions.

Overall: Easy to use most of the time

Pros: Love recently added feature to open tabs. Data is stored online which mitigates the risk of losing your data on a server. The home "dashboard" has up-to-date KPIs so a snapshot of your business is quick and easy to view. Bank reconciliations are super easy, as are all accounting related tasks. Reports are simple to customize to your general specifications and you can open them into an excel doc with the click of a button.

Cons: QB online gets slow at times. Desktop version has much less of a lag. Customer service phone representatives are very professional, but you can hear the whole call center in the background. It can be a bit hard to hear. Functionally, the software has few cons. The biggest would have to be the way the accounts autofill based on your typing. The lag from keyboard to autofill sometimes bypasses options and only recognizes new accounts. The only solution is to type slower. The class system is also a bit lacking in functionality. My company attempted to implement the payroll feature, but online does not allow the splitting of classes for an employee. ie you cannot pay an employee 25% of class A and 75% for class B.

Comments: It is a great product. The beauty of QBO (QuickBooks Online) is the availability of the client and accountant to access the program at the same time and from any location. This is a HUGE bonus!

Pros: This product is extremely easy to use. It has lots of bells and whistles that wouldn't be noticed at first glance. It is a powerful program and will handle most business applications and needs for small to medium sized businesses. Larger businesses can use this program if the business doesn't require job costing.

Cons: The program doesn't handle job costing well. I would recommend the desktop version if you're needing job costing reports. If you need restricted access for users, this program doesn't offer detailed choices for multi-layer access and restrictions. The payroll module isn't as friendly as I would like it to be. It's not user friendly for accountants.

Comments: Intuit created QBO for the newer digital age but it failed, miserably for Accountants/tax professions mostly. Functionality is Very limited compared to Desktop version which is MUCH better and has better features, Must PAY for usage on a monthly basis but at least the program is updated sooner as it's online Be wary whenever Intuit tries to sell you more of its products as it's sales oriented. Unfortunately, many users REFUSE to learn QB or QBO as accounts are MUCH more easily MESSED UP when users/owners do NOT know what they are doing. Worst thing is.. it's HARDER to FIX their stuff compared to the Desktop version. Like any other software, garbage in, garbage out. Owners should STOP complaining when they have to hire someone to FIX their QBO issues caused by them or their inept staffers.

Pros: Online access from anywhere Really nothing else positive to say about Quickbooks Online as it's pitiful compared to the Desktop version

Cons: Overall functionality is terrible Must open 2d browser window then copy/paste address to view in 2 windows as newer window functionality does NOT work well, report customization is terrible Ledger is ONLY available in Accountant Version, Chart of Accounts is difficult to rename/re-number accounts are MUCH more easily MESSED UP when users/owners do NOT know what they are doing. Worst thing is.. it's HARDER to FIX their stuff compared to the Desktop version

Pros: Bank feeds are where it's at. These allow your bank to sync with QuickBooks and then the transaction import into QuickBooks. You don't have to input these transaction into QuickBooks because the bank does it for you! This takes away the task of data input for a lot of transactions.

Cons: They make a decent amount of changes to QuickBooks Online, so what you learn may change over time. It's like any software, but I think they make changes more frequently. The changes aren't bad, it's just frustrating sometimes when you learn the software and then the menu options or display changes.

Overall: QuickBooks Online has saved me a bunch of time. I don't have to do as much data input due to their bank feeds option. Also, my records are more accurate because the information imports from the bank. I check it for accuracy, but I'm not doing the data input, so there's less errors.

Comments: I really think the online version caters to up and coming entrepreneurs who are on the go, and are exciting about new, quicker and more efficient ways to do accounting. I have used(and currently do accounting for 2 other companies I own) the desktop quickbooks for over 5 years, and it is better for huge companies with internal servers to work on.

Pros: Ease of use! The way it connects to bank accounts, credit cards and other software companies is seamless. You can use it for easy accounting or more in depth, the choice is yours. Reports are so convenient, you can have them emailed to you or anyone, and very easy to see the big picture. You can customize them literally however you want, so it's super easy to catch mistakes. App on your phone when your on the go. It now has classes, which is nice for reports.

Cons: If you own multiple companies you need to do accounting for, it gets expensive with each individual subscription. The downloaded app of the online version doesn't work as well, in my opinion. Through my web browser works best.

Pros: The connectivity and seamless transition from tablet to phone to computer is what I feel makes this almost necessary for a small business owner who's tracking expenses, time, and serving clients. Having the information real-time is incredible.

Cons: I'd really like it if there were app style notifications instead of email alerts (as an option). My inbox is floaded daily as it is, so this would help keep information where it belongs, in the program. I also think that there could be a little more work put into the "accepting" and other client interaction options with the estimates and invoices. Like the "pay now" button serves us so well, how about a "accept estimate" button

Overall: This helps me track the back end of my operations from anywhere, home, office, vacation. I'm able to log in, on any device, and keep updated. It's also incredibly user friendly.

Cons: None

Overall: I started using Quickbooks when I started my first business back in 2005. The product was easy to use but provided me with the most abundant capabilities whenever I need more from the software. I continued to use the software because it provided me with an easy way to have my accountant use my file to finalize my books and prepare my taxes. The only downside was that when my books were sent to my accountant, I was not able to use them because if my accountant made changes on their side, they would be lost once I imported them into my books. Introducing Quickbooks Online! This product gives me 100% of the needed functionality of Quickbooks and solves all the issues of the original product. I am able to work in my books at the same time as my accountant with zero chance of losing data or messing up my books. I have tried Freshbooks in the past and compared to Quickbooks Online, it just doesn't provide me with the level of details that I can get from Quickbooks. I also use the online payroll from Intuit which marries up perfectly with this product. Compare that to Freshbooks and their partners for payroll and you'll see that this is the complete solution for any business. I would not ever leave this service.

Recommendations to other buyers: As with any accounting and bookkeeping software, the setup is key. Make sure you have your accounts set up correctly at the start and this product will work flawlessly for you.

Comments: Overall, we're pleased with the performance of the system, particularly compared to our past experiences with other accounting software.

Pros: We just switched to Quickbooks in calendar year 2017 and have really enjoyed its features so far. It's extremely simple to set up new products and categories, along with asset silos and customer accounts. The powerful reporting tools are probably our favorite feature, as everything is easy to understand and customize if need be. We've also found the user permissions to be helpful so that certain information can only be accessed by administrators rather than the entire user base. We aren't currently utilizing the system's full capabilities, but hope to explore more of them in the coming months.

Cons: One of the biggest disappointments is that multiple invoices can't be voided or deleted at a single time, at least that we've been able to discover. This is occasionally frustrating, particularly since this capability should be a relatively simple addition to the platform. Voiding invoices one by one is a laborious and monotonous process. Hopefully this will be addressed in later versions.

Pros: Access from anywhere, mobile app or web or desktop apps. Meets almost all requirements of a billing desk, starting from invoicing, inventory to detailed auditing reports. We have been using this application since 2014 and cannot be more happier for choosing this product. GST integration was fabulous and we dint have any confusions. Appropriate tech support which responds in time and always tries the best to get us a solution when needed. I must confess, wonderful discounts on renewals!

Cons: For beginners the new UI might be confusing. Generating reports at different combination requires some RnD at first. Invoice customisation are a bit limited and lot of space is being wasted. A Custom style importing option is now enabled, but somehow i was not comfortable using it to the best.

Pros: The ability to create Divisions for your company and use classes for job costing are my favorite features in QuickBooks Online. The fact that my assistant, accountant and I can all access the program from different locations and are always in sync is another big plus. Custom reporting is a must have for me and QuickBooks Online makes that easy.

Cons: For someone who doesn't understand basic bookkeeping and the reading of financial reports, QuickBooks can be a challenging system to learn. I have seen people make a mess out of their books because they didn't invest in adequate training and guidance for themselves and their employees.

Overall: Valuable custom reports by Division, class, vendor and clients. Integrated invoicing that is payable online. Banking keeps my accounts up to date and reconciled with PayPal and credit cards. Tax time is greatly simplified.

Comments: This is the perfect software for the trades. Contractors such as electricians, plumbers, small builders etc. will get their money back multiple times by seeing where the revenue is coming from and expenses are going. Perfect for small bookkeeping services who handle these types of accounts.

Pros: The pros are: - ease of use for non-accounting skilled business owners. -basic profit & loss, balance sheets, and customizable reports. -allows small businesses to look at the profitability of segments of their business lines through use of class feature

Cons: - QB is constantly making changes without warning to the way the site is setup. They should role out changes in versions with announcements of changes. - some more sophisticated users are not satisfied with the QBO limits. - not a good solution for businesses who need to control inventory levels and cost accounting

Comments: Its a great and easy to use program. Honestly it only took me a few minutes to learn it from start to finish. I think the program is essential for running a small business. I found that the company I work for was actually using it as an all in one system- quoting, accounting and customer records. I wouldn't recommend using it that way as that is not really what its purpose is, however it did "work".

Pros: You can do just about everything you can think of on this system. Easy to use and understand. The dash board view shows basically everything you need to see. Very customizable. Organized. Not expensive. Makes Reporting easy and efficient. It is compatable with just about every single CRM out there. I use it with Mhelpdesk and it takes info accurately between the two programs. You can access it from an app.

Cons: The templates could be a little more customizable. There is no calaneder in the program. You cant search for just anything. You need to have specifics to search for different thinks, like customers, invoices ect. Its a little tedious to have to go into so many screens to make a new customer- they could improve by allowing you to create from any screen.

Comments: So while QuickBooks boasts a very pleasing and intuitive UX and UI, I can't fully recommend it until they iron out all the underlying issues with their site performance. Should they address it, I would wholeheartedly recommend this online accounting software.

Pros: It is very well structured and easy to use. My expectation was that any sort of accounting, be it online or offline, would be quite daunting and hard to use, but I was proved wrong with QuickBooks. Everything I needed was easy to find and the place you expected it to be. Adding a customer, creating an invoice, attaching payment details, etc. - everything was easy without any prior instructions or tutorial.

Cons: QuickBooks Online is slow and occasionally buggy. Much more than I would want and expect. I am not sure whether the cause of it is the engine or framework they use but sometimes my filter changes don't register, the whole website fails to load all interface elements and occasionally doesn't work at all.

Pros: Best feature is the ability to login remotely! This is especially helpful for employees working at home or for an employee to be able to login from home and answer a question or send an invoice. Another huge pro is the ability to interface with 3rd party software in real time. Online also has functionality for creating W-9's without additional fees.

Cons: Does not have the same reporting functionality as desktop versions - one example is contractors lose the ability to run Job Profitability Reports. The Job Profitability reports are available on both the regular desktop version and the contractor version. The online version could use some reporting enhancements - it seems like it is restricted to try and force users to the more costly desktop versions.

Comments: I've been using this product for 2 years now and it has good perks about it but it has 1 fatal flaw. There is no way to backup your data and retreive your scanned files. If you make any mistakes there is no way to correct it except redo everything. And if you become disatisfied with the product or service, there is no way to download your data ( with the attached files) and move on. The only thing you can do is export it in excel but you don't get bills that you might have attached ( and receipts). So basically, you are stuck . I have made an error myself which required me to pay an accountant to fix it all, I did ask some help form a customer service rep named: Keaton Kirk, and his response was that unfortunately there was no way to go back and erase my error ( like restoring a backup) and that the probleme really was that I shouldn't of made the error in the first place!!! Duh!?. If that guy was working for me, he would have been out of a job for making the customer feel like an ass.

Comments: QBO is good for VERY basic accounting/book keeping needs. If you plan on having employees or want to track your jobs profitability, QBO is not a good solution.

Pros: - QBO is accessible from anywhere with an internet connection - functions are relatively straight forward & easy to use

Cons: - Cannot email pay stubs in canada. You must download each individual stub, and email them out. - Developers dont listen to customer needs, updated are usually visual formats, but rarely things - time entry does not code expenses to jobs, you must do a manual journal entry to expense labour to jobs - cannot code overtime to jobs - is not compatible with tax programs to automatically load GIFI codes, this makes doing taxes quite more time consuming - they just recently added "project" reporting, however lack the ability to run reports for multiple projects at once - Everything requires a work around. what should take 5 minutes to complete for book keeping, ends up taking 30 minutes

Pros: Inexpensive - or at least the expense is spread out over a monthly subscription, there is no software to download, and online access is available anywhere. The desktop version of QB is a large program, which requires a powerful computer to function well, while the online version doesn't need the same kind of computing power. If you're an experienced QB desktop user - this is completely different. That may be good or bad, but it's a completely different program.

Cons: As a long-time desktop user, I find the online version extremely frustrating. Entry of items isn't laid out the same, things don't work the way they do in the desktop version - some functions even have different names! This is really confusing. Also, trying to import from one to the other will result in some serious data loss, depending on what modules you use. Audit trails are frequently lost or corrupted, and other data may simply disappear. It's not just as simple as deciding you want to switch from desktop to online, or online to desktop - they are completely different programs, with a steep learning curve.

Comments: We use QB online as a general ledger (checkbook, basically) and as an estimate and invoicing platform for school system business. So, our real product data is in our completely separate POS system. However, QB works well the way we use it and we aren't looking for another way to perform those tasks right now.

Pros: We don't have to worry about backing up a server in the broom closet because we might loose all of our billing info. No installation process is necessary if you get a new PC for the office or the front counter.

Cons: Because you can do so much in QB, you may find that you are only using a small percentage of the overall built in possibilities, which can make you feel bad about yourself for not doing things "the right way." Occasional loss of progress does occur, as you must manually save you work.

Pros: The software is very helpful. The features and functionality are complete. It's easy to use, you can hire a virtual assistant to manage and update Quickbooks that does all accounting and customer management for your business, which is less cost than hiring an Accountant. What I like from the software is that from your customer contact page, there are multiple tabs that you can create such as invoice, payment that is due for that particular customer. I receive monthly payments from my customers, and this feature is wonderful. From a certain invoice, you can also mark it paid. All links and buttons available make things easy and organized.

Cons: I encounter errors when saving sometimes. The software is fast, no logs or delays but be careful when you encounter the error,it means the encoding was not saved and you have to retry and make sure the data was added.

Pros: I have used the Intuit family of products for many years, both personally and professionally, and was a QB ProAdvisor at one time. The Intuit software has always been much more user-friendly, and from a financial end user perspective, superior to that of the competitors. The interface and reports are modern, and not old DOS based looking, like many custom software can be. I like that errors can be easily fixed, and the audit trail in the online version is very useful from a management and internal security perspective. I do like that we can log in from anywhere, at anytime and have the information readily available, without having to use a third party software.

Cons: The QB Online version is a completely different interface, and has a long way to go to reach the quality and end-user ease of use, that Pro and Enterprise has long offered to customers. I have found QB Online to be riddled with issues, which has been extremely frustrating at times. I have called support many times, only to be told that this is still in a BETA version, and that there were no current solutions to the problems I was having. The interface is quite often slow and unstable, dropping changes and causing information entered to disappear. We are continually having it freeze up on us, where we have to shut it down, which does not save our work, and then re-enter the information.

Recommendations to other buyers: Be honest and specific. Let the Vendor know why it is, or is not, working for your industry.

Pros: The interface is fairly user friendly. There is a good capacity for customization. The reporting options are extensive. The multi-currency functionality is very useful. The capacity to sync and automatically download transactions from your bank accounts largely works very well.

Cons: The software has challenges correctly downloading transactions from PayPal accounts. Also, the feature that automatically detects categories of transactions is inaccurate as often as it is accurate, making it essentially useless.

Overall: It was a thorough method of bookkeeping that made our annual external audit very straightforward. It also streamlined our digital filing as it allows for attachments to each entry, where all supporting documentation can be directly stored and accessed as required.

Comments: It is an easy to use, very practical and complete system, it has many features that you can take advantage of for different aspects of the organization. This tool is designed specifically for entrepreneurs, personal companies, small companies and medium-sized companies, in other words, it is designed for most of the market. For large corporations there are Quickbooks Enterprice.

Pros: It is an easy to use, very practical and complete system. It a helpfull software that allows you to keep track on the managment anywhere you go.

Cons: When you need to make some change or work more deeply with your system to suit your needs, there are very few tutorials about it. The customer service is a Russian roulette, you can be attend by the most charismatic, friendly and reliable person once and the next one can serve you someone who is not interested at all help you and leaves you messages without answering or understanding what he wants to understand without really help you

Pros: Entrepreneurs today are faced with many challenges, one of the strongest is understanding the financial structure of their own businesses, which is why one of the best tools for this is found in QuickBooks software, thanks to this, it is easier Understand the accounting process, from the moment of billing, until the completion of the balance sheets. It is becoming easier to manage small and medium enterprises.

This platform allows you to access and manage your data from any device, place and at any time, most importantly, safely. From a quote, a billing, receipts, sales and cash flow, as well as many other things. For the most daring, the tool allows a reliable follow-up that ranges from preliminary reports and projections to profit and loss balances

Cons: As with many platforms, you should be aware of the versions that are acquired, and that are used, since there must be an acceptable coordination between the packages that are purchased and our devices. For a good functioning of these, it is recommended to keep them updated, in this way not waste time on problems already overcome by developers, for example; those that have appeared between this platform and Windows, those that refer to the updates, the change of parameters and percentage rates, the repair of damaged spaces, and others.

Overall: Understand and manage the administrative processes of my business

Pros: After many years of revisions, Quickbooks Online finally has a product with a rich enough feature set to make the leap from desktop-based Quickbooks. The downloadable app enhances the experience, so I recommend using this vs. viewing in a web browser.

Cons: The integrations between their various services (payment processing, payroll, etc.) are weak and there are still significant gaps in features between the desktop and online versions of Quickbooks. If you are migrating from desktop, be prepared to spend a significant amount of time learning (too late) about all these gaps and be prepared to invest a significant amount of time cleaning up data and learning manual processes that you will need to fill in those gaps.

Pros: Ease of use is key to me, and Quickbooks Online is very easy to use. As a former stay-at-home mom who then suddenly decided to start her own boutique, I have no complaints with Quickbooks online! Most features I have been able to figure out myself, with few exceptions, and those exceptions my accountant was able to overview quickly. I also love that I was able to invite my accountant and provide them direct access - makes tax season so smooth for my business!

Cons: QuickBooks Online has changed their pricing at least 3x in the past year, and I don't appreciate that. There are many similar services that are free (though they may not be quite as user-friendly), so it's a little disappointing that QuickBooks keeps increasing their prices. Not to mention all within a year? A little ridiculous...

Overall: Ease of use, fairly good customer service, amazing features and capabilities.

Comments: Customer service is marginal at best. The product gets worse every month.

Pros: It is easy to use, easy to train new employees. It is easy to find other programs that interface with QuickBooks.

Cons: Whenever they have a new update, there is a problem, this time we have had all our computers that are using QB's crashing all day, Our IT guy spent over an hour on the phone with QB support, only to discover that this is a problem with most Enterprise Solution customers, and they have been working on a fix for 5+ hours without success. I now have 11 employees who have spent all day with very little to do, unable to do sales orders, etc. QB's attitude is too bad/so sad for you. Do you think they will put more people on trying to solve the problem, NO.

Pros: Doesn't require a host computer/system. Has an 'easy' user interface. Is hosted by a very responsive, low-latency server.

Cons: There are many things that I could mention in the cons, many of which don't seem major, but combine into a more disappointing experience than you get from the desktop version. For example, the '-' character is not interchangeable with the '/' when typing dates. Also, any sort of drop-down box that one might expect, such as a search of customers, vendors, payment types, accounts..., don't seem to do the search locally. So instead of having the options come up immediately, one has to wait for the server to give the appropriate options before selecting. Reporting is much more limited in this version compared to their other options and exporting data is not as simple for both the standard Excel export or if you have drifted into their QuickBooks odbc exporting.

Overall, it's a very complete package for small business accounting.

Pros: It's the industry standard - so people are familiar with it. Several platforms and banks will integrate it with it. The online version makes it easy for others in our organization to have access to the information they need. The reports are as detailed or simple as you want them. I like that you can import transactions (but see comments in the cons section on some of the issues that need to be resolved with import). The help, tutorials, and customer support have been good so far.

Cons: It seems cumbersome at times. One of our main payment platforms does not integrate into Quickbooks which mean a lot of manual entries. Also, with imports, you still have to enter sales receipts or invoices manually if you want to track entries by customer or venter - then you can match your entries with the downloads in your accounts. Very time consuming. No way, as of right now, to import transactions into sales receipts - that would save a lot of time and hassle - or if the deposits window gave you the feature to automatically create a sales receipt when posting deposits/downloaded transactions.

Also, would like if they had a way to archive past fiscal years. Our organization has been using Quickbooks since 2006 and our file is huge with a lot of information we don't need anymore.

Still a fairly new product for QB and they seem to try to be working out the kinks .

Comments: This suits our small business needs and keeps track of our invoicing and expenses. I think that if you gave it more time to really learn all the features, it could be more useful.

Pros: As far as accounting software goes, this one seems to have great features that I use weekly. Invoicing is very simple. If you regularly do the same sort of categories for work, it is great to be able to have this info auto-populate when generating an invoice. The financial reporting is easy to navigate and you can also create user logins for your accountant or employees.

Cons: Initially the software is hard to learn. I had to google a few tutorials on how to perform certain functions which I considered basic. There are many layers to this software and I feel that I am not using it to it's full potential as I find the instructions difficult to decipher. Online support is helpful, but I think they could do more.

Comments: Best of its kind on the market and powerful integration with tax filing software

Pros: Love the user friendly interface with rich reporting capabilities. It becomes a really powerful tool when you combine it with a mobile app that can automatically track all the mileage and catagorize everything with just one swipe. Quickbooks also makes it very easy for the tax season with a simple click reporting of all the metrics we need for tax deductions.

Cons: Been using it for a couple years now for tracking business expense and mileage and I cant think of any con especially with the online app (the mobile does have its quirks while tracking mileage where it occasionally splits up the journey if you make a quick gas stop).

Pros: The biggest thing I like about QBO is its ability to integrate with other cloud based software. Our company uses a cloud based inventory and POS system, and it is great to have a lot of our transaction information automatically entered into our accounting software. It also has built-in payroll processing, which greatly simplifies the process of paying employees since all of the taxes and accounting transactions related to payroll are automatically processed. This software saves us a lot of time every week.

Cons: The software is not as fast as the desktop version since it is cloud based and runs in a browser, but it's not too slow as to make it unusable in most company settings.

Pros: It makes it easy for the business owner (me) and my accountant to collaborate. It has been a solid tool to manage my finances, send invoices, receive payment by check or credit card. It has been great.

Cons: I have had only one issue and it has never been resolved after multiple attempts with support. two years ago, I noticed that the balance sheet was off by $140. This is something that should never get out of balance if you use the online software for everything like we do. So now, I have given up and just live with the $140 unbalance in the balance sheet. Otherwise, the software has been great. PS: This is why I gave customer support a low score. They should have worked it until it was fixed!

Comments: I will probably cancel my subscription at the end of this billing cycle, due to the new price increase. It seems to make more sense to spend a little upfront money to buy the desktop version and be done with it. I do like the software, and have been using QuickBooks for several years. I like the idea of the online version which is accessible from anywhere, including a mobile app, though the app version is more restrictive.

Pros: I like that QuickBooks has all of the features I need , in one program. You can access your data from anywhere with the mobile app.

Cons: The functionality of the online version is not as comprehensive as the desktop version. Also the price has increased twice in the last year. Also the mobile app version has much less functionality than the online version for desktop.

Comments: Good for a small business person that needs a way to easily manage books, but a growing company shouldn't use this product because it can't scale with you. Removing users was a pain and there is no online support other than a chat room. They have rested on their laurels with this product and I would not likely recommend it to most users

Pros: Availability in an online format gives you accessibility anywhere. It's relatively easy to set up and most bookkeepers and CPAs are familiar with the product.

Cons: Lacks all of the features and not nearly as robust as the desktop version. As a result we have had to sync the product periodically so that our bookkeeper can perform monthly reconciliations. Lack of support and new releases really amount to a "new look" not new features.

Comments: Customer service is horrible. You have to go through a maze of transfers to get to the right person. They are never native English speakers and have a very difficult time understanding what you are asking. Once they do understand it can rarely be fixed. I dread calling and will try all alternate options to fix things before attempting to call customer service.

Pros: The software is pretty easy to learn. It is easy to make changes to an individual's paycheck if needed and there are multiple opportunities for you to correct things before it is actually processed.

Cons: The program can be very glitchy. I have had it kick me out during the middle of payroll for no reason. It has also randomly not taken out payroll taxes a few times or not send the email check stub.

Pros: Quickbooks online is a great tool for anyone who is involved in small business. It makes accounting easy, payroll extremely simple, and overall book keeping a passing thought. This tool makes it so that I can send out over a hundred manually structured invoices out in just a couple of hours. Quickbooks does have a way to make regular monthly invoices generate automatically if you wish.

Cons: The only thing that does bother me with QBO is that they will occasionally rearrange their user interface to something different after I had gotten used to the previous update. While this change usually is for the better, there is a bit of a learning curve to get used to the new look.

Comments: Overall I really like QB online!

Pros: The system is fairly straightforward. The online option allows access by my accountant and I so we can see discuss info in real time just by logging in. Customer support is usually very helpful and will do screen shares to help troubleshoot. Lots of report options to drill down into. I use a customized website for my business and can download a report from QB online and upload to my site, so customers can view their transactions there.

Cons: Disputed payments (electronic bank transfers) through the merchant center are challenging to unravel. Finding hands-on training courses that are reasonably priced and in close proximity is a challenge.

Pros: It has reduced my accounting costs by allowing me, a small business owner, to manage most of my accounting needs internally. I simply do my accounting monthly and my accountant is able to log in and review and amend the monthly statements. It makes it really easy and affordable.

Cons: Recently, it has increased their monthly fee which I feel was an unreasonable increase. New users are able to get the online product much cheaper but they make it almost impossible to change over to another product to due restrictions on data downloads and conversion.

Overall: convenience, affordability, ease of use. complete control of our accounting needs that I can easily share with our accountant, bank, or any other vendor I choose.

Pros: I have used QBO for many years and have found it to be the easiest to operate in, even if you are a novice bookkeeper. Because it is online, you can access it from anywhere with only an internet connection. It is extremely easy for your accountant to go in and make any necessary changed/adjustments without you being down for any length of time. I have not found one client that I have worked with that has any issues using the software or having an issue that is not able to be covered by the software.

Pros: I love how we can access it online anywhere and any time. I love the invoicing to clients and how they can pay online. The payroll function works nicely as well. Overall it is pretty user friendly and super great as long as you aren't using the time tracking feature for employees.

Cons: The time tracking feature is awful. Our employees use it to log their time daily and the data just - poof- goes missing! We have called customer service nothing short of 20 times on this issue and they are not helpful. It is a very frustrating issue, so we are having to buy another 3rd party service to track time and import it into quickbooks. Frustrating as it is sold as part of the package.

Pros: In order to properly utilize the field service software I value, I need to use a cloud-based accounting program. I have been a QB Desktop user since 2002 and greatly prefer this version over the Online version. Having said that, what I like BEST about QBO is how much easier it seems to have our accountant involved in the year end adjustments, and how seamless the process is for them to review and check accounting issues I am not sure how to manage.

Cons: It's so expensive. We're a small business (less than 5 employees) but to use the features we need we have to subscribe to the most expensive version. Add payroll and the monthly cost is significant.

Comments: Do not purchase unless you have the money to invest in only QuickBooks materials and pay big annual renewal fee's.

Pros: It was not to hard to set up and enter data. I would not recommend this product based on support and fee's charged.

Cons: I could not print checks or W-2's without purchasing them from Quicken direct. I purchased checks and W-2's from an "Office" store and they could not print on them direct from QuickBooks. The QuickBooks checks and W-2's were way more expensive and not worth the added expense. I found software and did the forms by hand a lot cheaper. I also bought a hard copy of the software so I would not have to pay monthly or annually for updates my small business does not need. I do not need online access. After the first year QuickBooks Payroll Full stopped working and when I called they said I need to pay certain amount for annual renewal to use the program. That is not worth it for my small business. I do not feel I should need to pay for a program I purchased already. It also does not link up or updated with my bank so I have to load everything manually. It should work like Mint which does link up with my bank account. I would not purchase this program again under it's current working platform.

Pros: It's simple to view the invoices you have open, how long they've been open, and the total balance owed to you at any given time. Integrated email makes it simpler to get invoices sent out quickly.

Cons: Integrated email is great, but there are drawbacks. It's a crapshoot on whether an email will actually get to the person to whom you've sent it. I'm not sure if this is a problem with emails going to junk filters or just not going out at all? Also, we enjoyed the feature that allowed you to see how many times an invoice had been viewed, but due to problems with emails being delivered without text, we had to switch to HTML, so we no longer know when an invoice has been viewed.

Pros: Not having to do frequent backups

Easy to use

This was a big upgrade from out previous version of Quickbooks Pro 2015, after experiencing some issues between multiple offices on a single server. We decided to move forward with Quickbooks Online which has been a huge life saver and it has also helped to save time, and improve workflow.

Cons: Unable to export data for backups

Overall: Accessibility from anywhere provided I have excellent internet access and an app that can be used on the go for quick invoices. The biggest benefit is knowing our data is saved in real time and can be accessed from any location, without backing up or migrating anything.

Meh - We're kind of locked in so sticking with it

Comments: We've been using the online version of QuickBooks to do the same basic accounting and reporting for several years. The prices have gone up but we haven't seen any real improvements. Changing over to another platform would take time and effort, and I'm just not feeling like doing it. Otherwise I'd dump QB in a heartbeat.

Pros: Well understood by accounting professionals

Cons: Recently they changed the user interface. Takes more effort to find the things I use than the old version. Just a bunch of software engineers trying to justify their overpaid existence IMHO.

Recommendations to other buyers: Try out some of the other platforms first. Make sure you really need Quickbooks before committing to it. For many small businesses it's overkill and more recently introduced accounting platforms offer everything you need for less $'s.

Pros: The software interfaces with an outside CRM cloud based program we use (Jobber). That is the only reason we use it. The QB desktop version is 100 times better and more robust than the on-line version.

Cons: QuickBooks online is terrible for the small business owner! You can see Intuit is moving towards gearing the software for outside accountants who have their clients then use QBOL. They no longer are supporting the small businesses that want to operate without an outside CPA. I could write a book about how much worse QBOL is then the desktop version. I only use it because I have no other option with my CRM program.

Overall: It syncs with my CRM program.

Pros: The system is easy to use especially when you connect it to your business bank account. The original set up process guided me with the creation of my chart of accounts which is really important and made it so that I could easily keep track of all of our expenses and income. Our business is small yet mighty, its always great looking back and seeing how much you have grown over the year, the report makes this easy. Plus taxes are easily calculated.

Cons: Reports are easy but you are limited. I am used to having greater control over the information I am reporting on. To be able to pay our independent contractors we had to pay for a much more expensive version. We still have to pay for each 1099 processed, I wish this functionality was included in the basic package.

Overall: The greatest benefit for our small business is that it is easy to use and our tax liabilites are automatically calculated for us. I am not an accountant or finance professional so having a system that is reliable is really important, Quickbooks Online is just that.

Comments: I've been teaching people how to use the desktop and online versions of Quickbooks for a while now, and am slowly starting to appreciate QBO. However, they still need to add some features (ie. inventory, multicurrency). And, regardless of the Quickbooks version being used, I hardly ever suggest that anyone uses the automatic bank connection feature - it creates more issues than it solves in my opinion.

Pros: There were definitely some glitches when Intuit first launched QBO, however they've fixed those and are continually adding more features such as editable invoice templates.

Cons: It is not as easy to switch between screens on QBO as it is with the desktop versions (ie. invoicing to entering bills to writing "cheques"/expenses).

Comments: I have used QuickBooks since the 80's and have enjoyed vast improvements over the years. I switched to the online version in order to be able to access my data remotely. This was a huge mistake. The reports and functionality of the online version are not in the same league as the desktop version.

Pros: The only pro, in my opinion, is remote access.

Cons: We have two users access the online version of QB. We have different printers. Each time one of us prints cheques, we have to realign the print settings. Of course, we usually forget, so have many wasted cheques. We are signing in with our own logins, so one would think the printer settings would be assigned to the login - not the data file. You can not pull reports and then customize them with the different variables you are looking for. You cannot import historical payroll data. Like I said, I've used this since the 80's - that's lots of years of data to lose! If a cheque is written on the wrong bank account, you can not move the cheque- a huge issue if a payroll cheque was entered into the incorrect account and you don't realize it until you reconcile the bank account. I tried the product for three months and have now reentered three months work into the desktop version to go back to it.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you are not an accounting person and are starting out with a new small business, this program will probably work for you. If you are used to QB desktop or Sage products - steer clear!

Pros: Ease of use and automatic updates

Cons: Monthly fees

Overall: I began using Quickbooks when I opened a private mental health practice and Quickbooks has made tracking and reporting the financials for my business extremely simple and effective. At setup I was quickly able to import all of the relevant information and begin using the product immediately. The reports are clean and easy as is the ability to add/import/search/edit new information. I do not like paying a monthly fee for software nor do I like having to use it online, however, as I adjust to this new way of using and paying for software, I can't deny that I love the simplicity and the automatic updates.

Recommendations to other buyers: Due to the nature of my business, I do not include personal information of clients (name or otherwise) to avoid any potential compromise of health information privacy.

Comments: The "back" function doesn't seem to work. i.e. when you are a few clicks into a worker's profile and need to go back a step, the system automatically takes you to the main worker page. This seems like some sort of glitch.

Pros: Easy to use can personalize most options customized chart of accounts ability to link bank accounts and credit card account

Cons: making corrections in the chart of accounts can be tricky unable to split certain transactions (i.e. employee who splits paycheck between two different bank accounts) when importing bank file. You end up having to exclude the transaction which causes problems when reconciling. the "back" function doesn't seem to work (see comments)

Comments: Customer service has been excellent. They bend over backwards to assist in any way they can online or by phone. It is pretty easy to get through to a real person to help you through whatever problem you might be having. They are still developing this product and take customer feedback seriously.

Pros: The ability to access it on any computer. It's much less expensive than the desktop version with multiple licenses.

Cons: After using Quicken for many years and some Quickbooks desktop this is different. It has been hard for me to get used to and find the information they way I want it. It tries to do a lot of the thinking for you and in many cases is not correct. Changes and updates are made without much notification. Opening in the desktop app version doesn't work very well. You get a skewed vision of the page i.e. the "Save" button is buried under the toolbar and there was no way to adjust the view. I struggled with that for about 2 months before they told me to use the desktop sign in which corrected the issue.

I love the QBO. I use it more than the other QB software (QBDT).

Pros: If you are accustomed to QB desktop, the online software will be extremely confusing. Its actually a simplified version of the desktop. It does operate a bit differently, reports are different, and for some tasks, (expenses, for example), you can enter them using a different method than desktop. I really enjoy the fact that I can work from any location remotely.

Cons: finding the function (task) you want can be a bit more difficult than the QB desktop until you have used the software for awhile.

Overall: I can work remotely for two of my clients. Don't need to go into the office. Its quick to use as its a bit simplified from the desktop software
