Pros: Full power scheduling ability and robustness. Industry standard. Nice tie-in with the O365 environment and Sharepoint OData to access all the system data

Cons: The cloud clients are guinea pigs for new patches, there is no choice and often you show up and things are broken. Not great for system wide updates, each single sharepoint site is its own entity and won't update when the template is updated. No in-line editing for project details, not great if you are in item heavy industries

Pros: User interface is great and drag and drop schedule makes it easy to modify resource. The resource management is best I¿ have worked with.

Cons: The Pro version is pretty expensive. Hate the subscription on everything now. Monthly fee is too high.

Comments: More and more of us are less hardcore waterfall and are moving more towards a Waterfall/Agile hybrid solution. Would love to see the concept of "cards" or "Stories" be part of the project with stages or lists rather than trying to force Agile into a Waterfall tool.

Pros: For me MS/Project sets the standard for all other waterfall project management software tools. Have been using it for many years.

Cons: 1. The con is also a plus, but setting resource time estimates is tricky and requires a better understanding of work versus resource units versus and % complete. Added to that is the Task type and whether or not it is effort driven, confuses even senior PM's. 2. Not having an easy interface to update tasks from a Kanban (or Agile) world adds complexities to those us using hybrid solutions. Maybe this one is just that I am not aware of the Microsoft Kanban options however.

Pros: If you are Microsoft Saavy most of the tabs are intuitive. Also, creating sub projects is a great feature that most don¿t know how to use properly. The linkages are easy to use and help when dealing with complex tasks. The gannt window can be quite useful when presenting timelines to people in an audience versus the lines of tasks.

Cons: The resourcing feature isn¿t counterintuitive. It¿s not user friendly. The timeline feature is awful it needs improvement! I¿d never use it.

Pros: Top of the line functionality, integrated heavily with the rest for Microsoft systems such as Skype and 365 Has all the features you'll ever need from project management software Is reasonably simple to understand and use, but I would still recomend training on it as it's so vast

Cons: For me at least, the price was a huge deal, if you where looking to invest in This, I would highly recommend the 365 Project variant as it will be cheaper, paid monthly and is updated more frequently.

Comments: MS Project is a great tool for setting up and managing projects. There are some confusing aspects about it. The advanced features do take some effort to learn. The biggest need is a better report generator.

Pros: Very good at developing project schedules, connecting tasks, and manpower loading. The ability to integrate with Excel is quite useful.

Cons: Getting customized reports out of the software can often be difficult and time consuming. It has lots of advanced features which are not straightforward to learn. Expect to either take some training or buy a good reference guide to get more than the basics out of the program.

Comments: Still the easiest project management software I have used.

Pros: Develop proficiency fairly quickly and similar enough to earlier versions to keep it simple. Complete project tracking including resource management.

Cons: It would be great if this was linked to estimating software so you could set up the project one time.

Pros: Using this software since 2010, this is how i learned how to administrate projects, and as new versions appear, new and exciting functionalities come along

Cons: licensing teams had become a challenge to small/mid size enterprises because it became too expensive, pushing us to look for other sources

Pros: The program allows for a robust connection within our organization for projects that cross department boundaries and need multiple stakeholders for completion. The Microsoft interface allows for a strong understanding of how to use the program where it spans much of the other Microsoft programs.

Cons: There is a learning curve with the software where all aspects are not as intuitive or at least not as well. It can be far more complicated for most teams. It is an investment in training and resources to fully leverage the program.

Overall: A better scope of work and an organized process was gained immediately. It allowed all stakeholders to come together and provide an organizational view of projects and status updates.

Pros: The report presentation options let me tailor to provide what is needed for various end users. It is recognized and approved product in the industry.

Cons: Is not as intuitive as other programs. I don't always feel confident I'm geting what I want from my updates. I have only had minimal training so that may contribute to my problems.

Overall: It meets the project scheduling requirements of most project Owners.

Pros: Easy to use and redo changes. Easy to learn. Lot of instruction manuals and templates available at Microsoft template site for Project

Cons: Pricing. Will be nice if we could tie with some accounting software directly. In that case we have budget and very accurate accruals happened instantly.

Comments: I love working with Microsoft Project due to its simplicity.

Pros: It is the best product to teach entry-level schedulers. Most clients interact well with the scheduling format because it is a Microsoft product. I find it easy to teach new employees the fundamentals of scheduling using this software.

Cons: This product is not specifically tailored for construction industry. It can't be sometimes very difficult when dealing with larger more complex projects.

Pros: I find this to be one of the best services. It offers some of the best high quality elements that are available and you can use this for almost anything, work or home related. It helps to keep the problems that arise in business to a minimum. I would recommend this to anyone who needs the best for both work and in home jobs that you need to complete a task rather quickly.

Cons: I only dislike that sometimes the program will crash. The bug seems to cause some of your work to be missing... but that is only every once in awhile. It rarely happens, but when it does it can become frustrating. but you can be assured that most of the time all of your unsaved work is still their within the program and is able to be recovered.

I use this product to type things up while I'm on the go.

Pros: I have reviewed and evaluated dozens of project management software and keep coming back to MS Project. It is easy to use and has useful features. Many of the others had bells and whistles that were nice, in theory, but really were not all that useful.
I like being able to click on the task bar and have the task highlight. This is very useful for detailed projects. Also by hovering the mouse over the task name, the whole name will bubble up. Not all programs do this.

Cons: The sort feature is a little odd in that it offers to sort by fields that may not be used. It would be clearer if it sorted only by those being used.

Comments: PDF printing formats are not optimal. I find myself working to get large schedules so they are legible. Visual Aesthetics used in Project presentations is somewhat Limited I'd like to see more bells and whistles in this area.

Pros: Microsoft Project is very easy to maneuver and easy to teach basic scheduling principles. It is very Universal among our clients. I utilize a lot of the shortcut that you have provided within the software as it is developed over the years. I also appreciate the multiple Gantt chart colors that are available. It is very easy to Import and Export tasks out of excel formats. I have found many aftermarket tutorials on Microsoft Project.

Cons: Some of the advanced options are complex and cumbersome an example is resource leveling. Formatting the header to accommodate various icons or logos is not easy. It is not easy to jump from task to task.

Comments: MS Project seems to be geared toward traditional project management styles. Great way to manage large complex projects that you need to check off tasks. On projects with constant change it is not as accomidating.

Pros: Product does integrate with Sharepoint and can share with other staff that do not have Project. Can be used by large teams on waterfall type projects

Cons: Expensive license cost, not cloud based. Hard to share with vendors. Not the best product for agile projects or with progressive elaboration projects.

The base set of knowledge I needed to know about Project to have it be useful for the SBS projects I was performing made it almost unusable because of the learning curve necessary.

Comments: Good software, understand the horsepower I can get out of the back end BUT the hurdles are high.

Pros: Everything you would want it to do from a PM perspective it would do. Unfortunately most of the complicated PM tasks tend to be more suited for the Enterprise space rather than the Small business space.

Cons: Very complicated/sophisticated piece of software. in order to get all the *magic* of project you have to set it all up correctly. In order to set it up *correctly* you just have to have a base set of knowledge that is beyond what most of my customers are willing to pay for. This then turns a software purchase decision into a software purchase + training + frequency of use (retention) decision. For small business project often times the notepad and meeting method usually wins out over the select of MS Project.

Pros: Microsoft Project is one of those tools that every project manager must learn to use. It has a lot of great features for the beginner to the expert in project management. You can easily plan and forecast activities, assign resources and even get a full project cash flow. I use it to plan project activities, assign resources and detect when they are overcharged and if you use a baseline you can get control of project deviations. You can find a lot of functionalities that can grow as your needs of project management and knowledge of the tool evolve. There are a lot of good content about how to use it properly.

Pros: Hierarchical view of tasks, sub-tasks with efforts & resource allocation.
A detailed tabular view via the Gantt chart view .
A task distribution on a calendar view with pictorial representation of tasks via the team planner view.
Ability to assign same task to multiple people and define resource allocation towards each task
Via the network diagram the overall dependencies, flow of tasks can be well understood.
Option to baseline a project to a specific date helps to showcase progress accordingly.

Cons: I recommend that the transition between automatically scheduled and manual schedule can be made more pleasant, sometime this results in a lot of conflicts to be resolved.

Overall: Excellent Resource Management.
Project plan creation.
Ability to derive cost and effort of a project.

Comments: For the cost per licence and the ease of use, Microsoft Project is my go to tool for Project Management Software.

Pros: Most business have some form of Microsoft Suite, Project doesn't come in the standard suite but so adding additional licenses for Project is more cost effective than most Project Management Software. Because it is a Microsoft product, the user interface is like most Microsoft products, so learning how to navigate around Project doesn't take a lot of time. There is so much to this tool. You can do small and/or large project on it. The capabilities that it has are endless, you really can do a lot with this tool.

Cons: It can be a complex tool, when I first began using Project I had a manager working with me on the Project and helped me get used to Microsoft Project. She had been using it for years, so she had a wealth of knowledge that she shared with me. Without her help, I do think it would have taken me a lot longer to get used to it and be able to use it to its full ability. That being said, the tool can do so much more than I ever thought it could.

Cons: A Little bit tricky when it comes to schedule several different projects. Difficult to set same labor with the different wage at different projects.

Pros: If you want a feature or functionality in your particular project plan, it is almost certainly included in MS Project. This is the tool that all serious project managers seem to use because of that.

Cons: There is no such thing as a simple project in MS Project. Everything is complex. That means that unless you have a dedicated person assigned to working with the project document, you are going to spend way too much time fiddling and not enough time doing the actual work.

Pros: The gantt chart is very easy and fun to make and its easy to see milestones and interdependent projects.

Cons: It defaults date of the tasks to current all the time but it should always end at my last task so its easy to go through calendar

The project management tool that I easily mastered and that offers me everything I need for the job.

Pros: Project is very intuitive to use, but beneath the initial simplicity lie several layers that power users can progressively dig into to maximize productivity, The trouble-free integration with the other Office products and cloud services is a plus.

Cons: Not really specific to Microsoft Office, but I would like to see some new static and flow visualizations other than the legacy, printed paper-like, Gantt charts and derivatives. Perhaps something to do with the new Virtual Reality hardware and software that is being developed by Microsoft. That would be a quantum leap.

Overall: Solid tool to keep my projects within tolerable levels of productivity.

Easy to use. I spent like a month using it until feeling comfortable with all the features.

Cons: Because there are so many features, can be difficult to learn how everything fits together. And maybe the user experience can improve related to the way you change the cells etc.

Pros: Full Featured

Cons: Price

Overall: MS Project is a full featured program for project Managers. They only issue with it is its price. Microsoft always added a premium to their prices and this still exists and is the only thing keeping it to be at the top.

Pros: Powerful reports.

Cons: Hard to use and undertand... Training and practice needed compulsory

Overall: Using MS Project without training first can be a nightmare. That was my experience... looks easy and similar to an Excel Spreadsheet but then you start, you can be working for hours and completely wasting your time . After some days of training you can start using the basics. The power of the tool starts when you know the main features and the system perfectly and you use it every week. The new reports are powerful.

Recommendations to other buyers: Don't start without training. If you have to use it, understand it first. Check it every day/week or you will get crazy with the Project's changes... Try only the last versions to unlock the power of the last report options.

Pros: MS Project really is the way to logically think about the tasks ahead of you and how best to plan an approach to scheduling. Drag & drop management allows you to brain storm and rejig your team thoughts into a progression that suits whatever project you are planing. Being easy to visualise the steps to completion enables clear communication to the team and ensures implementation is fluid. Delays or pushbacks will immediately highlight any resource conflicts or shortages giving you time to recruit or come up with an alternative option.

Cons: Not the easiest software to get used to but once you start with small steps the rest will follow. Despite being a long time user I have yet to find the limits of the program so I have a whole lot more left to discover.

Pros: 1. Ease of use
2. Fast data entry
3. Visible Gant chart

Cons: 1. Columns are locked to function only one way
2. Date fields don't default to today's date
3. No means to separate one project from another

Overall: I use Microsoft's Project to track the individual items that I need to manage for a major project. The best parts of MS Project are that it evolved into the easiest to use Gant chart generator out there. My personal business calls for me to track several programs at one time and as an Instructional Designer/Architect, I tend to "chunk" projects into smaller, easier to accomplish bites. The Project lets me do that and helps me track my progress in completing the chunks of the larger project that I have to complete. I like that the interface allows me to enter the data about the project into what looks like a spreadsheet. The software then generates a Gant chart and helps me track where I might have finished ahead of schedule or where I might slip if I don't pay attention.

My main gripes about MS Project involve a lack of flexibility. I can't easily rename column headings because they're locked into Microsoft's view of what a project should look like. This is only a minor annoyance. That said, at times I often expect MS Project to behave more like MS Excel where I can manipulate and edit cells with ease, which you can't because the columns are locked to function only one way. Finally, I would like to have row separators that let me know where one project ends and another begins. I do this because I'd like to have a tool that lets me view all my projects in one place. Changing dates is also an annoyance because the date fields always default to the point in time in which you started the project and so if you expect the date fields to default to "today's date", you might have to make adjustments. It would be nice if the date defaulted as expected (today's date).

Tips:
1. You can roughly rename the titles of cells, but the contents will always function according to the locked nature of the cells.
2. If like me, you want to track multiple projects in one MS Project file, simply color code the different projects with the cell highlight function.

Recommendations to other buyers: There may be better software packages out there for Project Management and MS Project attempts to do it all by bringing a lot of traditional Project Management functions into one place. That said, you have to learn to tweak MS Project a bit to get it to do what you want.

Pros: Easy of assigning resources and task dependencies makes it east to plan and manage projects

Overall: I use Microsoft Project for planning and keeping track of all my larger projects. It's great for making sure everyone is aware of the tasks, who's responsible for them, and when they can start the task and when they need to complete them. It is easy to set task dependencies so if a date needs to change for a task, all the dependent task dates change as well. The features make it easy for planning projects.

Recommendations to other buyers: Can export the project plan to PDF format to share the project plan with users that do not have a license of MS Project.

Pros: User-friendly, pretty light & fast tool, Quick to learn, Good presentation by Gantt charts etc

Cons: Need time to learn all the features, cannot handle big & complex projects so easily

Overall: I have used the software for many small & medium complex level IT projects. Just like other Mircosoft products this one is also user-friendly & comfortable to use. It has all features like graph, charts etc for reporting. I am sure Gantt chart would be the most favorite of every user. It does need a lot of learning to use all the features of the tool but it's worth spending time in learning it thoroughly.

Recommendations to other buyers: It's the most common & reliable tool for project management

Comments: I am in touch with several companies using this software to manage from medium to high complexity projects. The software is quite user-friendly but requires some training to be completely understood and used in the correct way. It allows creating Gantt chart, network diagrams, resource usage profiles, reporting and controlling using the earned value methodology.

Pros: Ease of use and understanding. It doesn't require much training for all those involved.

Cons: I typically need a software that can handle multiple dependencies and assign tasks based off of those dependencies and for that I don't feel that MS Project is the best solution.

Overall: Working within the Project Management realm I have used multiple types of Project Management software. I feel that MS Project is a cost-effective, easy way to manage simple projects. For more complex projects that require the Waterfall method, I don't know that MS Project would be the best solution.

Recommendations to other buyers: Use it for simple projects! It is a great tool.

Pros: This software is simple to use. There are similarities between it and other MS suite programs. The functionality is endless and can be utilized for several different aspects of the construction process. TI can integrate with our online project management software to further its capabilities and help with our open communication and change management through all parties involved in our projects.

Cons: The first few times you will need to hunt around for some of the features that should be obvious, like spell check and page layout formatting, but once you know where to find it, operation is simple.

Overall: we utilize MS Project for all of our construction project schedules, from over all site phasing plans, to the complete duration schedule all they way down to our detailed three week look ahead schedules.
