While this program has been great for me in terms of keeping track of spending and sending out invoices, it may not be well suited for larger businesses with more intricate accounting needs. Pros Being a current FreshBooks user, I can attest to the software's efficacy as a means to monitor spending and issue invoices to customers. For me, having the option to connect with other services like PayPal and Stripe has been a huge time saver, and the interface is really intuitive. Cons But I've also found that FreshBooks lacks some of the more sophisticated capabilities I need to run my firm. It's perfect for my simple bookkeeping needs, but it might not be the greatest choice for a bigger business with more intricate bookkeeping needs. Cons Their new interface is slow. They’re moving everyone to adopt their new interface and this is affecting my customers to access and make payments. December 12, 2018 5.0 There are some things about the workflows that I wish could be made more seamless and efficient. I feel like it takes too many clicks to do something like send out a quick estimate for a potential client, but maybe that's just me. With their newer platform, they seem to have listened to a lot of feedback from users to make their software better. When I've needed to contact support, either by phone or email, they are super friendly and actually seem to care about resolving your issue, which is nice. I've been a happy user for years and recommend it to others who need an online invoicing solution. Pros As a long-time user (9 years), I've developed a workflow around Freshbooks so that I can track time, send invoices, draft estimates, and get paid pretty fluidly. It's integrated into my business, and I appreciate that it also integrates with other apps I may need to use. I find it's easy to use and does what I need it to. Cons In their newer version, they've taken away the Paypal integration, which turned off a bunch of my clients who prefer to pay that way. A few other things are a bit buggy, but seems to be due to my migrating from their "Classic" platform to the one they have now. For someone starting fresh with New Freshbooks, I doubt they would have these types of issues. Pros I jumped onto Freshbooks when I was a freelancer - it was easily the most user-friendly and intuitive accounting and invoicing solution. Since then we've grown and found Freshbooks to be not only pretty to look at, but smart in terms of the features it offers small businesses to get their clients to pay on time (they have late fee integration), and easy to access (they have client portals where the invoices are easy to view and action). Cons I feel the pricing is a little steep compared to other competitors in the space, and I don't like that clients need to create an account to log into see all their invoices. The iPhone apps makes billing and time tracking a breeze. I have been using it for years, and found that it fits the bill perfectly \[pun intended\]. I don't currently use all the features of FreshBooks, but I do subscribe to their blog which keeps introducing me to features that make the entire experience great. They keep introducing new features, so I may never get caught up, but thats okay, because they keep improving my efficiency. On the rare occasion that I need to contact support, I have been pleasantly surprised that a real-human answers the phone on 1 ring and is happy to help solve the issue. Pros Invoices need to be created with ease while onsite with a client. FreshBooks does this using their iPhone app. The client is instantly emailed an online invoice, allowing them to pay the invoice immediately. Being an Apple Consultant, design astetic is important, and I wanted my invoices and payment portal to reflect that. The received FreshBook invoices, statements, website/ portal and other client contact are easily customizable with very little effort. Clients can log into their invoices at any time and pay or download (which saves me from having to send it to them). Creating an invoice is very simple. The per month plan allows for up to 50 clients, which is plenty for the time being. Customer support is fantastic! Cons I'd like to be able to integrate with my website instead of manually having to enter the revenue. The old system used to show in the Dashboard what money was in transit. Now you have to login to WePay. No biggie, just an extra step. Clients cannot select the amount to pay if paying a partial amount of the invoice. This is a hassle when a client asks to pay a different amount as what was set up in the Payment Schedule. You have to go in and change it. Also, with Payment Schedules, if you don't enter them in date order, you have to reenter them. Let's say you get several payments entered and forgot one, you have to go and change all the dates in order for the system to accept it. It's a pain! It feels like having a personal assistant working Pros I liked the fact that it was easy to create proposals and invoices, as well as converting proposals into invoices. It also made it easy for me to add credit card payments. Cons I love Freshbooks, but it doesn't seem to be very good with accounting for our large business. We hire a professional account to help us keep track of the numbers and she's always telling me that there are errors in the reports that are coming from Freshbooks. December 18, 2018 5.0 I was using Excel to track expenses and create invoices. I have to track down receipts and call on clients who were late to pay. It was up to me to remember to invoice clients each month. It was pretty overwhelming for me. Freshbooks basically made me a more efficient person by sending invoices automatically, importing expenses and chasing down clients who are late to pay. Pros Not only is the design pleasing, but it's super easy to use and integrate with just about any other platform you use. My favorite features are the automations. I have the ability to integrate this with my email list so that new clients added to my email list automatically. I also love how easy the reports are to use. Creating recurring invoices it's the bomb and I love that some of my clients have saved they're credit cards and their invoices get paid automatically!! I spend less time entering payments and managing expenses and more time doing the stuff I want to do. Cons I would like a simpler way to manage tasks. This feature still feels clunky to me. This is an ideal program for smaller company for tracking and invoicing. I've also used Quickbooks and liked the invoicing on Freshbooks much better. It has some nice features such as you can see when people open the quote or invoice that you send them and how many times they have opened it. This is nice when you have a potential sale and you can tell if the prospect has looked at your quote and if he re-opened it. The customer can pay the can pay the invoice straight from the online and is easy and intuitive for them. Being an web based platform is nice to be able to pull it up on any device no matter where you are. Cons I wish there was a little more customization on controls and privileges for the user. The salesmen in the company was able to adjust pricing and I did not want them to be able to do this. There was not much customization on the presentation of the quotes and invoices either. We've been using it for a few years now and other than some minor hiccups that were quickly sorted out with a call to customer service, the experience has been great. Pros It's easy to set up and use. We are currently in the second version of the software. The switch to the current version was a bit tricky but between playing around with it and making numerous calls to customer service, we got it sorted out pretty quickly. Monthly recurring invoicing and credit card billing is easy with this software. It's literally "set it and forget it" but easy to make changes when the need arises. Bundled with some basic time tracking, Freshbooks was a fantastic way to track time for projects and clients and have everything in one place for easy billing. Ever since Freshbooks switched to "new" Freshbooks, it's been abysmal, to the point that we're using outside time tracking software and looking into different replacements for Freshbooks itself. These issues range from support being downright unhelpful and unwilling to listen or implement changes, to having web designers who think that adding padding around elements (not the elements themselves) are both a good looking and useful feature (hint: those with accessibility issues have an extremely hard time clicking small target areas). Time goes missing, time doesn't log and you don't know it until way after the fact. Projects come in and out and can't be logged to. It's painfully slow to do just about anything. The interface rounds up time without the opportunity or setting to NOT round up time. Where to find things is confusing. The browser extension doesn't work properly. In addition to this, Freshbooks points you to use their mobile apps which are even worse than the situation on desktop. Overall Freshbooks tried to revamp itself into a more modern interface, and in doing so gutted the majority of its usability. Maybe you should do more testing before trying to get all of your users to switch into a frustrating new interface. Pros Used to be a nice alternative to using Quickbooks, with built in time tracking software. Cons "New" Freshbooks is just straight up bad. The entire interface is slow -- slow to log time, slow to go from page to page, slow to save things. Loses time entries/doesn't log them. Interface is hard and confusing to use. Not built for those without precision motor skills (forget it if you have any sort of impairment) Support has not been helpful. Always rounds time up without any opportunity to turn that off. Bugginess results in weird interfaces and projects going missing. Browser extension barely works. Don't even bother trying the mobile app for any device -- it's abysmal. Review Source DS David S. Add the strong integration that it has with Freshdesk for ticketing and my time tracking - it has allowed me to better streamline my operations. Pros Tracking and customer portal that is fully labeled as your own... this is a feature most competitors do not have. Know when your customers have viewed your invoices and even printed them! Slick mobile app Cons Pricing has gone up vis a vis other comparable competitors. Ticketing is very basic. One issue that could have been done better is that this is more of a quoting system and not proposal based. So making fancier proposals you are best off using another platform.
