June 28, 2018 5.0 So far he has been a great help in managing my accounts in a business that is just starting out, and for which I don't have the budget to hire an accountant. It has helped me to gain time and start to establish control over my payments. Pros In principle, one of the things I liked most about it was the ease with which I could make invoices and track my bills and payments, as well as helping me keep track of customers who haven't done so. I've never been very good at math, in fact, my business is about writing, so I'm glad I got this tool to help me do my accounting and I'm sure I'll continue to use it. Oh, and I love how well it integrates other tools I use constantly like Paypal or Hubspot. Cons So far I have no further negative observations, perhaps because I have not used it for a long time. The only two things I could suggest is that it would be good to have the same access to the reports from the application as from the browser, and is that it could be used without the Internet, at least some functions. Pros iPhone and iPad app is great allowing you to take photos of receipts and instantly enter and save your expense. Support is fast and helpful from actual people with timely responses to email. Easily create projects, time budgets and then generate invoices from time entries. Full colour/logo customization even on free plan. Integrate with lots of other helpful business apps - Basecamp, Google, Xero, etc. Easily add users as sub-contractors and create teams to track times and expenses. Cons Could be a little less expensive for the low-user plan...but still worth the cost for what it saves me in time. The focused design for its users is very simple and forthright. The huge green buttons and a user interface that is well designed makes it attractive. Also, it is not burdened with structures such as those of a software based in a desktop. In any way, a person does not require to take a course in order to get started. Finally, their pleasant support is very overwhelming and obliging. Cons I had some difficulties adapting to the radical features of this software and it really took me some time to figure out what they really were. It helps in tracking the company's reports. Pros Freshbooks is an incredible tool that is used in businesses for tracking and invoicing. The unique thing with this accounting software is that the user is able to know whether the clients have opened the invoices sent. It helps in solving the issue of paperwork in the offices. The invoices and other business reports are safely and orderly stored in this product. The customer service team are very reliable. Cons The implementation of the software in our business was somehow complex. It needed some technical support. It is always hardy to navigate from one feature to another during the first few days. I use freshbooks for time-tracking and invoicing. I began using it because it was based in Canada (as I am - I wish I could be charged for Freshbooks in CDN dollars though) and because it was easy to setup and use compared to the other invoice webapps around at the time (2014). Overall it's great, but I have actually found it VERY expensive, especially in comparison to other apps I use daily in my work. So although I enjoy using it I am actively looking for alternatives because it's simply too expensive to justify. Just for comparisons sake, here are a few of the other monthly subscriptions I pay for: Photoshop - $9.99/mo Google Apps - $5/mo WebHosting - $20/mo But when we look at Freshbooks, the app I use for 5 ~ 10 minutes per week, because I have more than 5 clients = $25/mo. I would suggest raising the amount of clients you can have in the lite account to 25, that would keep my on Freshbooks forever. But as of now I'm actively looking for alternatives - $300/year is a lot to my small business. That said, it's reports are very useful and in truth I stuck around to see the new design which unless it gets to me quick I won't see. Overall I like Freshbooks but I find it VERY expensive. Pros The thing that I really enjoied about this software is how simple it is to startup. The platform of this accounting software is an easy read. Because it is cloud base software it takes a lot of the guess work out of that program. It had a worthy price as well when your first starting out you need to keep supply cost low and this softer dose that for me.I will keep telling other about FreshBooks because it works with little to no work involved. I was very naive, as out of nowhere and without any explanation, FreshBooks closed my payments account when there was still money I earned from my clients in it. So I basically lost that money and time as well. Very disappointed by this so I promptly closed my subscription with them and went to another accounting software company. Do not use FreshBooks, especially not FreshBooks Payments - There are better (and free) alternatives out there. Pros Platform takes a while to get used to, but you get the gist of it sooner than later. Cons There is a limit of clients you can have on the platform if you choose the lower tier of their service, which I find completely ridiculous. Their invoicing bugs sometimes, where I'd lose some of the changes I made to an invoice. We, however, became discouraged by the fact that we have to wait up to 30 business days to get paid. Pros It's easy to customize and send an invoice to customers through their email. Cons It takes up to 30 business days for the payout to your company's bank account. It isn't made available to countries in Africa. February 6, 2020 5.0 As a contractor who has a growing list of clients, I found that manually tracking my time and then converting that into invoices each month was getting tedious. And then tracking invoices, checking for past-due items, etc. was just taking up more time than I wanted to spend. Freshbooks has simplified and streamlined my time tracking and invoicing for clients. Pros Time tracking is well done, invoicing is super simple once set up properly and I like that it allows you to do hourly billing, retainer billing, or a combination for each client. Also, adding your tracked time to an invoice and creating a professional-looking bill for a client is so much faster and easier than doing so manually. Cons There's a bit of a learning curve and you need to invest some time initially to get clients and projects set up correctly. So be prepared to make that investment, but it will pay off in time saved later. Also, this may not be for everyone, especially when you first starting out. There's an overabundance of competitors but Freshbooks seems to be the right move for my small business. The user experience is very straightforward and simple to understand. I personally think more software should be designed with this type of workflow. Cons Goal setting is somewhat limited. Freshbooks was recommended to me by my accountant. The FB staff were great when I was starting out, learning how to use the tools and making adjustments for invoicing in different currencies. Their support hours are such that even from here I can book a time to get assistance when email is not enough. As a non-accountant/bookkeeper the tools are simple enough to understand, laid out in a logical manner and make it enjoyable to do my bookkeeping work. Granting my accountant restricted access is a benefit for both of us. Lastly, as a Canadian, I like to support my fellow countrymen/women in their business ventures.
