### "AVOID at all costs"

Inexplicably and thoroughly unethical business practices. Terrible customer support. No commitment to help its customers.

Pros

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Let me say it again to get to the one hundred word minimum for this section.

Cons

Bonterra bought out Salsa, and it's been over a year-long process to get out from under Bonterra's clutches. They were charging outrageous and inexplicable fees through tiers of 3 sub-processors who would not stop charging our account, and there was no way to contact them, and Bonterra support did nothing about it, even when we did manage to connect with a human being. We had to pay to stop payment on these withdrawals.

EveryAction has been instrumental in helping our organization build and engage our grassroots network, enabling us to collect and contact approximately 8,000 voters. While the platform does a good job in core areas like Mobile Messages, targeted email campaigns, and Online Action forms that make organizing straightforward, we've encountered ongoing challenges with data integration between EveryAction and SmartVAN that has required significant manual work. Despite some gaps in user resources and missing features we'd like to see, the platform has ultimately supported our organization's growth and outreach efforts effectively.

Pros

The intuitive functionality of Mobile Messages and targeted email campaigns, combined with robust Online Action forms, makes setting up grassroots lobbying efforts straightforward and efficient. The platform streamlines our outreach workflow and makes it easy to engage supporters across multiple channels.

Cons

The persistent data matching issues between our EveryAction campaigns and SmartVAN (My Voters) have created significant administrative burden, requiring extensive manual data entry to maintain accuracy. Additionally, the platform lacks comprehensive learning resources and training materials that would help new users get up to speed more effectively.

### "Not useful for business contributions"

Very poor. I have a lot of work arounds to make it useful for business memberships. And I have been reporting my frustrations to EA for years with no changes at all.

Pros

I like the notes section the best. It allows me to keep good records on the communication with my business members.

Cons

I am in charge of business memberships and EA is not very useful when it comes to working with business memberships. Several of the functions available to personal memberships are not available with business memberships. It starts with the Common Name and Official Name fields. What would really be useful (and this is how we currently use these fields) is to have the Business Name and then Primary Contact Person fields. For us, the Common Name is the business name, and Official Name is the Primary Contact. The reports are clunky. If you run a contribution report, it does not even give you a total dollar amount for the contributions in that report. You have to export it to a spreadsheet and then get the total from the spreadsheet. The search box is horrible. You have to type in very specifically what you are looking for. For example, if I am looking for Jim's Market, if I type in Jims Market it will not find Jim's Market. Forecasting reports are only possible for the next month. It would be better if we could run forecasting reports for the year or specific time frames based on recurring contributions.

Pros

Everyaction has allowed our organization to greatly increase our fundraising, donor management, and outreach capacity. The software is both customizable and easy to use in a way that works great for our small organization.

Cons

There are some features that could use small improvements. For example, in targeted email it would be helpful to be able to organize uploaded photos into folders. However, these are minor issues and overall I have no complaints

It's helped me to step up our email game. I know I am not using Bonterra to its full potential, and it's still helping me move the fundraising ball forward. The products are continually advancing in a manner that brings value to the service.

Pros

The ability to analyze your email results and create very focused distribution lists and searches. Also, the wide range of reporting functions.

Cons

It doesn't sync with QuickBooks. The download list/search functions don't allow you to separate the first from the last name, which can be essential for data used outside of the platform.

### "Getting better, but not great."

Overall, the program is not bad, but it is certainly not great. I do think that the updated help center has been informative, and I can see that the EA team is working hard to optimize the systems regularly. I just think that the system is not as user friendly as it could be, and it is hard to find a handy step-by-step guide for getting the most out of your account.

Pros

The thing I like most about EA is that I can see both payments and client relationships as well as use for a email campaign manager.

Cons

The site is not user-friendly in the ways that make sense. For example, there are many detailed options of unique things I can do but none of them are what would help me on a regular basis. For example, I cannot organize photos in targeted email. Most frustrating though, I cannot "Group by" and "Edit Columns" whenever pulling a contribution report. This is so frustrating and makes me have to do extra steps each time I pull a report.

Our onboarding was challenging, and we did not get the support or training that was expected when we signed up. While you can reach support, they are not able to help beyond simple requests. In order to fully learn the product, you need to sign up for thousands of dollars in additional training.

Pros

It is a robust system and handles most of what we need it to do for us. It is nice to have fundraising, grants, and communications housed in one place.

Cons

It is very complicated and hard to learn. You need to add on training to learn how the system works and what it is capable of. We have been using it for about 2 years, and there are still features that we don't use because we don't know how to.

Overall, EveryAction is a good product. My only complaint is around customer service and the availability/reachability of tech support. If those two functions could be improved, EA would be golden!

Pros

is effective, affordable, and provides a lot of value for the price point. It has nearly all the functionality a development shop would need.

Cons

It is sometimes hard to get responsive and timely service from the help desk. However, once I'm able to get the help desk's attention or a paid 4-hour session, the quality of the service is wonderful. I would like better client services/sales rep interactions. My assigned rep is not very responsive or knowledgeable about the product. I recently bought some additional services and it took four weeks to get them scheduled.

does a decent job of combining many different platform uses into one offering but it sacrifices customer experience to do so.

Pros

I like that EveryAction is a great all in one platform for nonprofit outreach, member relationships, fundraising, and advocacy.

Cons

It's been really hard to get helpful resolution with the EA support center. We had excellent experience with Salsa support but Bonterra has been much harder to reach and get helpful support for technical issues. It's also difficult getting support online from other users on Reddit. It would be helpful to have a support forum.

Overall, was a solid tool for organizing digital engagement and voter outreach. While there were some usability challenges, the platform provided the flexibility and features needed to manage large-scale programs effectively. With time and support, it became a reliable part of our data and communications work.

Pros

The platform’s integration capabilities are strong—especially with ActBlue and VAN. The ability to segment lists, track engagement, and set up automated email workflows was especially helpful. Customer support was responsive, and the training resources were thorough.

Cons

Some parts of the interface felt outdated and unintuitive, particularly when navigating between modules. Reporting can be clunky at times, and there’s a learning curve when managing more advanced features.

Pros

What I love about every action is that I'm able to work with our whole team on projects and get them finished in a timely manner.

Cons

It can be pretty complicated to get to certain projects but once you understand the program it's easy to navigate.

While I love learning new tech and keeping up with the latest in CRM, I wish this somehow had anything to do with my workflow so I don't feel an anxious sense of urgency to complete what should be another person's work while he also does this exact work in another platform.

I like the granular details of data taking options. I like being able to track back notes made on any constituent. Very detailed and helpful.

Cons

Having to learn it for the sole purpose of benefitting a man's career. This is a big minus for me because I see it only done for other men in the organization.

### "Not for small nonprofits"

I have used this platform for over 5 years while working at a small nonprofit of 7 staff. Building lists for communications seems to work fine for my colleagues and me, but retrieving donor data that is useful and relevant is either awkward or impossible with this platform. Yesterday I actually did simple algebra on pen and paper to get the relevant comparisons I needed to provide a board member with requested data. As the only fundraiser at my organization, I have limited time. I tried to find how to get a 3-year donor report recently and found I could not get that information in a way that was useful. This should be a simple report that is easily applied to all donors. Instead, the best one can do is get a PDF of gross change over the past two years plus the current year. It is possible that I could get more of what I want given time, but small-shop fundraisers don't have two weeks to be constantly calling customer service and experimenting with the DMS. Given what I know about the information my board members currently want, I would never pick this platform. If you are a fundraising staff of one, beware.

This platform is reasonably priced and customer service is usually prompt.

Difficulty retrieving data requested by board members, staff, and consultants.

### "IndivisibleHoCoMD use of EveryAction"

I find the overall use of this product positive. We have been able to put our many emails both weekly, bi weekly and monthly. Overall, our users like the emails and generally respond.

Pros

We are able to segment publications to specific voting areas. This helps keep our responses positive and limits communicating with others. I think it has directly helped our reader response rate. Sign up forms had a direct impact on our meeting planning. The drag and drop editor along with the email source is easy to use once you have tried it a few times. It is easy to understand the new features, as well. I find the color options and organization tools very effective for reader response to our emails.

Cons

When you need to find a tool, sometimes it is cumbersome since the product offers so much that it is almost impossible to find the item. I have spent a lot of time scrolling through the Help from EveryAction to find answers. When adding photos to the emails, it is timely to scroll through all the other photos and find the one you added. It would help to be able to delete or archive some of the earlier pictures. I have to preface this comment as we are delegated the package from Indivisible.org. And have found some tools were not in that packaging.

### "Worth It, But Study Up!"

Ensure you develop a standard of practice for data collection and management that is uniform from the beginning, with supporting documentation or it will be extremely difficult to manage the data on an ongoing or effective basis.

Pros

EveryAction presents a large suite of options to search, sort, and utilize data from your organization, including constituent record data and fundraising data. I most appreciate the ability to segment mailing lists in order to reach the specific supporters/subscribers to our organization. This platform is no joke, and has enormous possibilities for functionality, but you have to know what you're doing to be effective. There is an extensive help section, and one-on-one training with your client services representative is available through scheduling. They are thoughtful, knowledgeable and incredibly helpful.

Cons

While EveryAction has broad functionality, it isn't intuitive. It can be cumbersome to perform a simple task, especially if you are not performing these tasks enough to develop cognitive/muscle memory through repetition. All of the options can be overwhelming, and unless you are aware of the possibilities and what function you want to perform as well as have the time to research, watch, learn, and practice/test these options it can be challenging to achieve the desired results, especially on a timeline. For those coming into EveryAction from outside of the organization utilizing it, and with no experience on the platform, it can be challenging to learn and utilize, especially if the data/records have not been managed in a way that lend themselves to the way you want to use them. Comprehensive, standardized data points are key, so the organization has to set a standard from the beginning or you're doing a LOT of clean-up. I think a standard "academy" of training videos that walks a new user through the functionality from beginning to end via recorded videos and interactive lab curriculum would have been really beneficial for me to better utilize this system. As much as I love EveryAction, I feel I'm not able to effectively utilize all of the functionality or necessarily have the time and resources to learn all possible functionality at this time.

Reason for choosing Bonterra EveryAction

We are solving the inability to reach large cross-sections of our constituency and understand how/if they are receiving/utilizing our targeted emails, and how this outreach correlates with donations, etc. We are engaging our constituents and supporters on issues important to us and them; linking forms to fundraising, events, and surveys for an integrated platform for donations/contributions/revenue and its tracking.

### "Exceptional Features and robust integrations hampered by lack of integrity and bullish business ops"

Very poor. The experience was severely hindered by the unauthorized debit, the lack of integrity of Paragon Payment not honoring their price match and the weeks of time wasted trying to get a response to these issues and, ultimately, culminated in our termination of the agreement due to their breach of agreement and trust.

Pros

The app has every feature you could imagine for a fundraising non-profit, is fully extensible and very well laid out - at least for having this many features.

Cons

We signed an agreement, with a 3 month period until the first payment would be made and based on Paragon Payments matching our Stripe fees (which they would match the transaction % but then tried to charge several hundred dollars a year in other 'admin' fees and ultimately would not honor the match). We were also charged on the first month, instead of 90 days out as agreed... they did refund that payment after I brought it to their attention. We chose to terminate the agreement at that point. EveryAction then replied and said they had not breached the agreement from Paragon not matching the stripe pricing as agreed, and we would be held liable for the entire agreement. I reminded them that they had made an unauthorized charge to our account, in direct violation of our agreement.. we are still waiting for their 'legal' team to respond - days later. The bottom line - they have an incredible feature set and if you go in knowing they will try to bully you into fulfilling an agreement that they themselves don't uphold, you'll likely be ok. For us, we are prepared to engage our lawyer in the case they EA doesn't 'see' how they breached the agreement with the unauthorized payment... in addition to the frustration, time and hassle they have caused. It'll be interesting to see how they proceed at this point.

My organisation have been able solve the following existential problems within the non-profit sector using EveryAction. 1. Out reach to mass audience, we have expanded our reach a quadruple times than how we started over ten years ago. 2. Donation management, we can fundraise and manage those funds almost seamlessly. 3. Time management, with our virtual space events, time has been swiftly managed and by extension, we have saved money. My overall experience with this tool has been very excellent.

Pros

The following features are golden pots of EA, 1. Reporting and Data Analysis This section of the tool is one of the excellent thing that has been done so far. My team do not require so much complex data science skills to understand the dynamics behind the datasets in EveryAction. The graphs are punchy and easy to understand. Their presentation formats render them very useful to various stakeholders within my organisation. 2. The Administrative menu This section is encompassing especially for the kind of jobs we have on our plate. Our organising team have been gratefully harnessing its simplicity and ease of use.

Cons

The integration part of this tool has not been great from our end. We are yet to harness it full potentials. We actually looking at ways of integrating our financial solution within our finance unit to this tool. Secondly, the text messaging aspect has not being actively working as expected.

Pros

Everyaction excels at allowing users to pull from various data points within the CRM to create dynamic searches and lists of supporters and donors to engage, culitvate, and solicit. Everyaction's integrated features like online actions and targeted emails allow you to use real-time data you collect from supporters and act on them. On top of this, every action has a lot of useful and cool features like automation and easy-to-use bulk uploads that make processes easier.

Cons

Transferring our historical data from our previous CRM to every action was difficult. We are still working on creating a fully functioning sync between the two platforms.

I never take the time to write reviews, but here I am, 3 days away from the launch of a major fundraising event and capital campaign, taking precious time to fawn over the greatness that is Every Action. It's that good.

Pros

As someone who grew up using VAN for political campaigns, Every Action is the perfect continuation of that skill set. Everything is exactly where you expect it to be, and the Online Actions and Targeted Email modules are welcome additions that offer the full suite of features that I've come to expect from industry standard CRMs, with hardly any of the headaches that come with a software that allow you to write your own code.

Cons

Every Action's feature set is SO robust it can be overwhelming at first, especially for new users.

Great team to work with to get started. I wish they had a customer support team that was available via chat or phone. It sometimes takes a little bit before you get a question answered.

Pros

I love that the CRM is used both in advocacy and email marketing seamlessly. It's easy to put together lists to send emails to and the advocacy tools are as good as any I've come into contact with.

Cons

The report functionality is good, but not yet great. They sometimes have limits on the types of fields you display or pull from. But this rarely is a problem.

Bonterra Development + Digital (formerly EveryAction) has made managing our records of pledge signers, donors, and our outreach missions extremely simple and pain-free. The database also allows for pulling contact information for targeted emails and mail lists very easily, which we use daily.

Pros

Working for a non-profit foundation that does so much of it's work online, Bonterra Development + Digital has been an excellent tool for me to use. The tools to send targeted emails, create mailing lists, keep track of all online and in-person donations and grants, and providing a system for membership and recurring donations have been crucial to the functioning of our foundation.

Cons

I suppose at the beginning it was a tad overwhelming to learn how to use, because there are so many resources, but the Help Center was a great resource and now I feel very comfortable navigating the platform.

### "EveryAction's acquisition has gone bad"

Pros

The core functionality of EveryAction remained the same after the acquisition. The UI is attractive, easy enough to use and figure most things out even if you have not previously used the product. It's also used in so many organizations across the space so it isn't a chore to train others on.

Cons

EveryAction was owned by some great folks a few years ago, and they put their hearts into the product. Now after being purchased by private equity, they've gone dramatically down hill. The support quality has decreased, along with development growth as most of their long term technical folks were terminated. It's scary to see such a big expense in the nonprofit space being operated by a skeleton crew.

Through everything from complicated data transfer projects, staff trainings, to optimizing our donation forms - the EveryAction team has been an excellent technology partner for nearly 3 years. We're thrilled to keep working with EveryAction as they are constantly rolling out new features and improvements so we can provide our supporters with best-in-class emails and donation forms to support our cause.

Pros

My organization uses EveryAction primarily for its Fundraising and Digital features: donor management, user segmentation, targeted email, online donation forms, and reporting. It was our organization's first-ever donor database and an excellent investment for our team in our early days. As Comic Relief has grown, and as our digital strategies have become more sophisticated, we've been please to see EveryAction's product evolve and improve along with us. Highlights of the product include it's robust list creating feature, email editor, donation forms, and its reporting center. EveryAction also provides excellent all-around account management - no other vendor we've worked with has been this attentive to our needs and receptive to our feedback.

Cons

We initially struggled to on-board members of our organization to use EveryAction - the produce was likely too sophisticated for staff members who are less tech savvy. Pros

EveryAction has given our organization a polished and professional look to our outreach and communication. My team uses EveryAction weekly for email campaigns to send newsletters, surveys and other communication to targeted groups. It integrates with our project management system seamlessly by assigning each new applicant that comes through our system, a unique code that then creates an email list based on that applicant's profile. We have noticed a big increase in user responses to our forms and surveys by using EveryAction.

Cons

I wish EveryAction had the ability to apply logic to questions when building forms. Because the forms do not, we've had to use other form builders like google forms or survey monkey.
