Comments: It's not that our sales volume has outgrown JobBoss, but our processes have. The lack of flexibility and customization are forcing us to work outside of JobBoss (e.g. custom software). The more that happens, the more obvious it is that JobBoss isn't right for us. I always consider JobBoss as a first source for our processes. Most of the time it can do something similar to what we want, but we would have to make serious concessions to make it fit. Ps. Stop sending "Important JobBoss Updates" that are primarily selling custom utilities.

Pros: In general, it's easy to use. Each module has similar buttons and interfaces. I think the AR/AP modules work well since it's not the primary focus of the software.

Cons: Quote entry has extremely limited ability to adjust margins (it can do it, but it's not easy). Adjusting margins are key for job shop environments. After speaking with support about my needs, they told me to quote outside of the system. Which means, I was literally told not to use your product. Legacy fields get stuck in the system. There's a lot of clutter in our system because we need to change user defined fields but they're not available in the find/replace utility. Scheduler is very poor. Difficult to use, glitchy. Doesn't (automatically) schedule for available labor resources, which is a huge part of a job shop environment. Reviewing scheduling during quoting doesn't account for current back load (or didn't at the time we last considered it). The recent "facelift" was atrocious. It's actually a huge deterrent to updating versions. What benefit is this facelift to me? My perception is that there will be no feature additions to the core product. Any improvements come in the form of custom utilities with additional cost.

Comments: I came on board with my employer in October 2014. They had been using JobBoss for over 10 years. With my ERP background, I quickly discovered that my employer wasn't taking advantage of many of the available utilities, including the Scheduling module. Within 3 months I had all 30 of our machining centers, plus all of the secondary resources and operations, set up and testing completed. Routings were stripped back and rebuilt with proper resource requirement setups to ensure proper scheduling of work and proper timing and load representation. Shift and holiday calendars were constructed properly. We turned on Scheduling in February 2015. With the first pass of the global scheduler (running infinite loading and allowing schedules in the past) we came out with a past-due backlog of some 4000 hours. After updating job progress on about 150 jobs, realigning a few things and making some setup tweaks, we realized that we were still over 2000 hours past due. However, we now had the theoretical start and end dates to work with, we could time materials properly, and could graph our loads to see what we were doing to ourselves with our booking practices. Since then, we have improved our utility of the system across the board. Raw material and finished goods inventories are accurate, so we can now use the Material Planning functionality. Raw material issues due to planning are non-existent. PO's for outside processing are now accurately priced, timed, and generated straight from the job routing. Use of Picks, Transfers, and Extra Quantities have given our inventory transactions full transparency. I look forward to Unite 2017 when I can see hands-on what other companies are doing to tap this system's potential!

Pros: Simple navigation, use of Favourites shortcuts, level of complexity is perfect for smaller organizations.

Cons: Would like to be able to access more information directly from the Job (ie from an outside process, be able to access the Purchase Order that is linked to it).

Comments: Our company has now used JobBOSS for around 4 years. We have found that the user interface is quite intuitive and straightforward to use. This is a plus when training new people on the system. Functionally, it has met most of the needs that we purchased it for. We loved the idea behind the scheduling module, but have found it to not be a good fit with our shop. We are primarily a custom high mix, low volume shop. This leads to many jobs that have potential to run in more than one pathway on the floor and most jobs are first run where we do not have a history of expected production run times to fall back on. We also have split our shop floor into three self directed production cells that have a fair amount of cross work. The self direction means many production decisions are made at the cell level and not at a command level. Because of these factors, we found that matching our shop floor to the scheduling module was exceptionally difficult unless we were willing to dedicate a full time person to keeping it accurate. In the end, we believe that the scheduling module would work better in a higher volume production environment with more of a top down command structure than how we operate. The reports that come with JobBOSS are reasonable, however, we have found that digging deeper into the data (at least the directions we looked) required special reporting. It is handy to have someone on staff who is comfortable working with SQL tables, data mining and creating custom reports. Exact does offer custom report creating. Just remember, it come at additional cost.

Pros: As someone who does look behind the scenes and works to dig data out of the system, I am impressed with the amount of information that JobBOSS does capture. Additionally, it is quite well organized in its structure. On the front end, the user interface is intuitive and lends itself to easy training.

Cons: Reporting. The stock reports are reasonable for a company that does not need to dig into its data very deeply. But the analysis at deeper levels would either require purchasing many custom reports or have someone on staff that can dig into the data and create custom reports. The scheduling module works best in an environment with minimal chance of perturbation. Systems that have a high degree of variation become hard to model accurately.

Comments: I have used JobBoss for the last 6 years and it's great for a shop like ours with custom products. It handles everything from the initial customer quote to turning it into a sales order, defining specific jobs and component jobs all the way through shipping and invoicing. The various processes you might need are logically organized into modules which make performing specific tasks easy. The downside is the occasional lack of communication between the modules requiring you to complete some information multiple times. The only reason I did not give 5 stars across the board is the inability to look at the big picture (all open orders), drill down to the semi-big picture (a specific sales order), and so on down to the minutest detail. If you are looking at any of these areas by itself JobBoss is a great tool that does a terrific job at helping you manage a project; it could use a little tweaking to help you really manage multiple projects with ease.

Pros: The level of detail available about any project, material requirements for the project, routing steps, and tracking of progress. A complete system available to manage every aspect of the shop from scheduling of employees and jobs, payroll, materials, and more. XML support to allow you to use external programs to exchange data with JobBoss.

Cons: Inability to really drill down from a broad overview of projects in the shop down to specific details of a single job. Customer support for using XML extremely limited. Poor documentation on using it. Does not allow you to require completion of a routing step before beginning the next. Ability to track progress is 100% dependent upon employees logging into a job and recording their progress without any enforcement policy within the program.

Recommendations to other buyers: "Junk In, Junk Out". Careful planning before adding data to JobBoss is critical. Some information cannot be edited once it is in the system so your only option is to delete and start again. If your employees are not properly entering their work on a project into JobBoss you won't have a reliable means of tracking progress or estimating completion.

Comments: Archaic and Tedious is exactly how I would describe Exact JobBoss. There are significant limitations in the software to consider up front. Part numbers are limited to 30 Characters. Drawing numbers are limited to 16 characters. General Description field is limited to 30 characters. Their answer to this is to provide an extended description dialog box. But you can not see the value of extended description in any sort of list view, therefore you can not see the complete description of your materials or parts anyplace until you generate quote document, or purchase order document, or a report. The general Description field will clip your description. It will let you enter more than 30 characters. But if you save and exit, then open the same quote it will have clipped the description to 30 characters. The UI is not user-friendly despite other reviews. I seriously doubt they have conducted usability and ergonomics studies with actual customers. It is very easy to get off track and be very disorganized with materials. Where it should have a good predefined material structure. The reporting side is very limited unless you are familiar with programming Crystal reports yourself. If you are building a product structure where multiple components use the same material, there is no way to add the same material to multiple components at once. You can copy material from one component to another, however, you cannot copy just a single material. For example, the component that I am copying from may have 5 materials in it. I have to copy all 5 materials into the target component then delete the materials I don't want in it. Same way with copying routings. A tech support rep argued this with me via email. To convince him I was correct and it was not possible I had to take a video of my screen attempting to copy one material and send that to him. Only then did he come off his position that it was possible. I can not see both the routings of a component and the materials of a component at the same time. They are two separate view windows you have to click back and forth in. Likewise, you cannot see the materials in multiple components at once. You have to click back and forth between the components you are interested in. If they rearranged their UI you could do some of these things, because there is plenty of room on your average size monitor screen. I have a 24" monitor and at a comfortable resolution, JobBoss is really only utilizing about 50% of my display space with actual pertinent information and controls. It's very easy to accidentally delete things and there are not many places where you can Undo, so if you accidentally delete something you are SOL. There is no way to add additional custom properties to a component. For example, I can not have Customer Part # and Our Part#. There are unforeseen nuances as well with formatting as well. If you enter a value in Vendor Reference field or Detail Number, then it overwrites the space for Extended Description on our Purchase Orders with Vendor Reference or Detail Number instead. You can not delete a material that has been used in a job. Unfortunately, we have a terrible material database with poorly named materials. We would like to replace the badly named materials with new materials that make more sense. But there is no good way to do this. Once a material has been used, closed, or scheduled it can not be deleted. It can only be inactivated. But what I want to do is replace it completely. Now they will say that they have a replace functionality, but it is really a rename functionality. But you can only rename one material at a time. So it's not really a replace function. Lastly, if you have limited seats you can set a user sign out after a period of time. However, I have found that if you walk away and have not saved your quote or job and it auto signs you out, it DOES NOT always save it for you. So you may lose work that you have done since last save.

Pros: It has quoting, materials, costing, and scheduling, and job status capabilities.

Cons: Sadly the UI is severely lacking. And it seems not much thought is given to usability and efficiency.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure you look past the sales demos. Look at real system limitations, organization, UI friendliness, flexibility and customer support.

Pros: The biggest advantage that we see in JobBOSS is that it is well-suited to the small manufacturer and job shop. The modules are functional for our day-to-day operations, which allowed us to standardize and increase our workload and throughput by at least 20%. The interface is user-friendly. We were able to implement the software very quickly compared to the software we were using. The workstations in the shop have given us a good handle on time collection. We also use the QuickBooks integration and it works flawlessly. Exact employees are very friendly and knowledgeable about their product. We get answers to our questions very quickly, and they are very helpful in solving problems we incur. The online portal is a huge asset for training new users and enhancements to the software¿s customization.

Cons: As good as the program is, there is room for improvement. We think it is just a few enhancements away from greatness. The software has several glitches that have not been fixed in the five years we have been using it. For example, you lose the information you are entering into a job or purchase order if another user is updating a related job or material. Sometimes, the software locks up and has to be forced to close and restart. This usually happens when you are trying to delete a raw material in a Job and select a different material; it's some kind of access violation. The updates of information changes between modules is slow and can be frustrating. For example, if a raw material is received from a PO and you want to add that material to a job and pick it from the inventory, you have to close the jobs module and reopen it to get the new inventory update; this should occur instantly. A few other enhancements would be nice (e.g.: autofill on names fields, uses of Return key to tab between fields, and a simpler method of customizing basic forms like can be done in QuickBooks). We purchased the ShopBoss scheduling module with high hopes of solving our delinquent deliveries. After about two years of trying to implement this module, we abandoned it for our old manual method. The JobShop module needs a simpler and more flexible scheduling module. it requires way too much time in operator maintenance to keep it functional. In a job shop environment the schedule has to stay on the balls of its feet because the priorities are always changing. We can do the job faster than we can change the schedule in JobBoss.

Recommendations to other buyers: Ask for a short list of users that match your type of business and have implemented the software in the last 3 to 5 years. Give them a call and ask them for the good and the bad. Most will be willing to give you the unmotivated truth.

Comments: JobBOSS is an integrated database that connects all our departments and data in one place and keeps our company and employees accountable to a system that provides us with solid and accurate information for daily operation and planning for the future. Although intuitive, JobBOSS is not out-of-the-box, first-day user-ready--so plan ahead and take advantage of the excellent training resources available. JobBOSS Customer Support is top notch. We were already working¿but now with a little implementation, JobBOSS is working for us. JobBOSS works¿and helps us work smarter!

Pros: I like the way all of the JobBOSS modules are interconnected, sharing data, and referencing all of the modules together. JobBOSS is a well-designed database that allows our company to manage all of our operations in one resource. From scheduling to inventory, to payroll, to bookkeeping, JobBOSS works for us. The Customer Portal is a huge asset, providing video training, online support, support documents, and an experienced and professional staff of Customer Support representatives that have always responded to any software support request within 24 hours--and normally within just a few hours.

Cons: This product has so many elements, that it requires a strong software support person on location. JobBOSS requires much thought and preparation prior to implementation, but a company who does their research and commits to a dedicated effort before launching JobBOSS will quickly reap the rewards for the front-end effort.

Recommendations to other buyers: Take advantage of the Learning Pass for at least the first year. Send top level management and key support personnel to regional workshops. Hire a trained JobBOSS employee to work with managers and employees to implement the transition process. Start with a good material library and material control and then add other modules.

Pros: Pretty easy to learn. Support staff are nice and helpful and they always walk me through anything I've mucked up. The program is easy to use, it's not real complicated, more user friendly then some packages out there.

Cons: Limited functionality. I came from an Oracle (manufacturing) background and I find getting the information I need out of JobBoss is very frustrating. I wasn't expecting anything close to what I had before but some items seem like they should just be common sense. You cannot run a backlog with rev's for the parts, unless you pay extra. I do accounting as well as customer support and I find it very difficult to pull the information I need in one report so I have to cut and paste. Plus exporting in to Excel the formatting is not great. I have to reformat everything. Lastly, to had an extra person to the users (extra license/seat) is crazy expensive. Almost twice the amount of the maintenance agreement. And if you upgrade, they do everything remotely so you have to do all the stuff on your end - and of course everything you want or need as a cost. On the plus side, the program is pretty easy to learn and navigate. The customer support staff are pleasant and for a small company - I guess the value is okay. It was already here when I came so I don't have much to compare it to. I do know we are not using the functionality the way we should and I wish I could find a consultant locally that could just come sit with me for a couple of hours. Trying to do stuff over the phone or email is time consuming and inefficient and I don't want to pay the cost of flying someone here only to be told I have to pay extra for everything.

Recommendations to other buyers: Decide what functionality you are going to need/want. What do you like about your current software and what are you hoping to gain. Then make sure this is a good fit for your organization

Comments: We have had JobBoss for a number of years and have just put up with it. It is obvious that over the years they have just kept adding features and the system is clunky and not intuitive. I got excited when they announced a new cloud version a few years back. This had appealed to me as it appeared to be a new version, and our server needed replacement so this was the right solution at the right time. I'm based in Canada and was told it would be coming to Canada soon, but I would need to convert my Accounting to Quickbooks Online as QBO is the accounting engine for the cloud platform. That was several years ago. I've called a handful of times with no resolution, everytime it's either "We're working on it", or they encourage me to get a US address to have the Cloud but I wouldn't have Canadian Payroll, or they start giving me complicated answers about the server version being hosted by someone else.. I've also emailed a few times with no response. They've never been able to give me a clear roadmap of what to do which has been super frustrating. We have now picked new cloud-based software provider.

Pros: Nothing.

Cons: Not User-Friendly or intuitive. (Just ask them to demo their CRM to see what I mean). Poor Customer Service.

Recommendations to other buyers: There are much better products out there. Easier to use with better customer support.

Comments: We recently tried to renew our support but were told we had to purchase two years. We cannot commit to two years for sure in case we outgrow our server and want to go cloud based.

Pros: Easy to use, functional, can usually figure out flexible work arounds. Integration to QuickBooks works well.

Cons: Many shortcomings, especially in regard to the way the database updates. You have to totally close a record and the application to see the updates in other tables. We have many problems with records in use and you cannot save. I don't like the way that purchase requirements are not consolidated between what is directly for a sales order vs. what is material for jobs. PO's go straight from Open to Closed but not until after costing- PO status should have a "received" status.. If you use a RFQ, (which is nice functionality) it marks the material as "started" once the RFQ is used it can never be removed from a job if a change needs to be made. There are other quirky issues with Sales orders where this just does not feel like it native with the other apps.

Comments: Starr Manufacturing Inc. has been using JobBoss for over 10 years. During this time, Starr has more than doubled the number of employees in production and grown from a $5M a year company to over $12M in yearly sales. This would not have been possible without our ERP backbone, JobBoss. Starr has purchased and utilizes just about every module JobBoss has to offer. The top reasons for Starr's success in using JobBoss are: - The ease and accuracy of setting up detailed quotes or job templates for one time or repetitive work and then launching very detailed information packets to the production floor. This has minimized the amount of work in process questions and the cost of quality. - The MRP and inventory control functions have allowed Starr to minimize on hand raw material balances by 70% or almost $1M. By using JobBoss and some lean efforts to track and purchase materials we have the correct amounts of material when we need it but not in excess tying up valuable cash flow. - Another huge step in our ability to service customer accounts was the implementation of customer parts inventory systems. We are able to define certain common customer parts as finished goods, and to produce them in larger batches using our MRP reports rather than producing one part at a time to a particular order. - Data Collection has drastically improved our job cost reporting and eliminated the need for 1-2 employees to manually enter in old job transactions days or weeks after they occurred. This has transformed all of our JobBoss status reports. Giving us vital data to make important business decisions. - Lastly JobBoss's integration with Exact Synergy has allowed Starr to go almost completely paperless with regards to our ISO 9001: 2008 quality system among many other benefits Synergy brings to the table. The document control feature and most importantly the definable process flows Synergy adds, ensure that quality processes are addressed promptly and by the correct people at all times. ISO audits have never been easier and participation by employees in the quality process has never been simpler and less dreaded. Starr could not generate or facilitate the amount of sales, with as few administrative employees that we have, without using this ERP solution. Exact Software and the JobBoss developers have been listening to customer feedback and we cannot wait to see some of the upcoming enhancements the team has made to make JobBoss an even better tool.

Comments: Job Boss is a comprehensive package for resource management, from receiving raw materials to scheduling jobs and shipping orders. Integration with 3rd party quality management systems is good. Custom report writing for Job Boss is a must, but thankfully Exact employs a very knowledgeable consultation team to help. The software contains some bugs and is missing some features, but support is always on top completing support requests and explaining how to use modules. We've only implemented 75% of Job Boss (Sales, Purchasing, Accounting, and Shipping), but we are excited to start running Job's in the middle of 2017 and fully realize this software's full potential.

Pros: Comprehensive ERP system includes modules and features for all aspects of Production, Sales and Purchasing. Helpful support staff is always willing to spend the time necessary to answer questions. Good integration with Unipoint Quality Management Software. Flexible reports easily modified by Crystal Reports. Frequent Updates, we are excited to see what Exact brings in the years to come.

Cons: No support for maintaining multiple revisions for parts with the same material names. Job Boss cannot track Materials Lots to Packlists for Sales Orders with multiple Lots and multiple Packlists. Data Entry is inconsistent among various modules, search screens and report filters. Purchasing Module is clunky. Revision tracking sometimes prevents the user from saving work.

Jobboss has been a great tool in improving our production management.

Comments: We've spent the time to setup each module in Jobboss to ensure we can run our shop as efficiently as possible. It's really saved us a lot of headaches and ultimately helped with job costing.

Pros: If the time is taken to setup each module that suits your company there are so many benefits to using Jobboss. The live data that can be collected from production. This helps with inventory, shop efficiency, job costing, management, documentation etc.. Another great aspect is the Shop Alerts feature which allows you to setup triggers in the system via email, text, & Jobboss' messaging system. Our system is setup to send an email whenever a pack slip is made, this helps manage our shipping department. We also have an alert to email whenever there is an excess amount of scrap for a job. These are just a few examples of the alerts we have setup in our system. There are so many aspects of Jobboss that ultimately help with managing production control.

Cons: Majority of Jobboss' cons are minor. I had to "clear" out most of the garbage that was saved in Jobboss prior to processing each module out. If there is any activity against a material or operation you cannot simply delete it. You have to go through and delete each transaction against that material or operation, or obsolete it using the Find & Replace utility. If you set your system up right from the start this will not be an issue for you. There are certain default settings in Jobboss that cannot be changed. One example is the shape under Raw material; there are only 19 default shapes that can be chosen. There will always be minor cons that you will run into when setting up a system for your business.

Comments: We are a small manufacturing company (about 30 employees.) We have been in business since 1987 and have gone through a few systems prior to JobBOSS. Previous to JobBOSS we were using a program that would only run on an old UNIX system and the company we purchased it from was no longer in business. We researched a few companies after the decision was reached to switch to something more up to date and JobBOSS came to the front for a number of reasons. When we purchased JobBOSS back in 2002 they were not part of Exact. We felt that a smaller local company with a track record of success would provide us with more personalized support should issues arise. The ability to access the data directly (via MS Access or SQL) was important to us. With our old product the data was in a black box that we had no direct control over. The price was competitive for the features offered. Since purchasing the software in 2002, we have continued to be impressed by their support and commitment to their customers. We like that JobBOSS surveys customers for improvements that they add to the software. This makes us feel like we are really a part of the team and our opinions and needs matter. Support is, for the most part, very responsive. Short hold times and support representatives are friendly and knowledgeable. Since being purchased by Exact, JobBOSS¿s commitment to customers and service hasn¿t diminished. (As can be typical when smaller businesses are acquired) We like the ability to schedule our shop floor using the program. As well as how interconnected all aspects of the manufacturing processes are in this program. If material is late in arriving it lets you know the schedule is going to be affected. Before we purchased JobBOSS, scheduling was accomplished using paper/binders and calling or running back in forth to different people to get status updates. With JobBOSS all our information is a click away. The program had about a month long learning period but to get up and running it only took about a week. The program is also fairly intuitive, in our opinion, so that helps lessen the learning curve. I would have little trouble recommending Exact JobBOSS to any manufacturing shop. It has helped us become more aware of the bottlenecks in our own shop. It also provides in-depth insight into the entire manufacturing process from quote to shipment.

Comments: Griffin Industries has been in business since 1983, and specializes in prototype and low lot machined castings. Working in the prototype world, timing is everything and our customers have come to expect quality parts in a short period of time. With the help of Exact JobBOSS and Synergy, we are able to see real time data for all of the jobs in our shop and manage them effectively. Throughout the years as Griffin grew, more and more excel spreadsheets and access databases were required to track the variety of information required. This often led to data entry errors, information not available when needed, and frustration throughout the organization. In 2008 we decided to pursue a software solution that was capable of handling the multitude of data required. We discovered Exact JobBOSS at IMTS in Chicago. After several demos and discussions with the sales staff at Exact, conversations with other Exact JobBOSS users, and internal meetings we made the decision to switch to Exact JobBOSS and Synergy. We went live in January of 2009 and have not looked back. Our implementation process went fairly smoothly, all things considered. I definitely recommend relying on the expertise of the consultants at Exact to help you through the conversion. They were able to review how we run our business, which helped us to let Exact JobBOSS do the work for us. Our biggest challenges were training shop floor personnel who had never touched a computer before to use Data Collection. Also, for the users to learn the system, to obtain the data they were looking for rather than relying on administrative support to supply it for them. Today we are using version 11.3.8 of Exact JobBOSS along with Exact Synergy ASP, and are very happy with it. We have eliminated almost all of the extra reports that were used outside of the system, to track information, with the reports supplied by JobBOSS. We have even written some custom reports. As a result, we have reduced our administrative staff from five full-time employees to three full-time employees. We continue to improve our processes and our use of the system. We look forward to upgrading to the newest 11.5 version of JobBOSS along with Synergy ESE with the help of the support staff at Exact.

Best investment I've made in 25 year of Manufacturing.

Comments: I own a small machine shop in Southern California and was using another product for a couple of years back in the early 1990's. I switched to Jobboss in the late 1990's and have never looked back. It is the complete package from quoting to job entry, purchasing, receivables and payables and job tracking. Most of my jobs are repeat orders and it's so easy to copy the information from the past time I ran the job to the new order. It populates the part number, description, revision, price, drawing number, operations and outside services and also the purchase history and material needs for the order. All you need to do is check the revision, price, quantity and enter the delivery date and it was done. Its a time saver when you can see what size, price and quantity of material as well as the vendor and create a purchase order for that from the Job Entry screen.

Pros: Ease of use and savings in time with regards to purchasing and costing jobs.

Cons: No complaints

Recommendations to other buyers: Absolutely give it a try and see how it functions

Comments: I've used JobBoss for almost 11 years at a small machine shop that specializes in aerospace work. I've seen the software grow and change with updated revisions, each one more useful than the next. That's not to say the program has not been useful in the past - as the industry grows and changes, it's obvious that the company takes user feedback into consideration when improving the software. The software is easy to use, and technical instructions (such as those for installation) and clear and thorough. Tech support is always knowledgeable and helpful.

Pros: It's perfectly geared to manufacturers. There are many ways to customize features and use what works for you - and don't use what doesn't work for you.

Cons: I'm not a terribly huge fan on Crystal (one of the options for reports).

Recommendations to other buyers: Attend a JobBoss Conference and immerse yourself in the software. Think about how you would use modules as you watch live demonstrations and talk to other users.

Comments: We have had JobBOSS for over 12 years. It was a definite upgrade from our previous custom system. We are a small electronics contract manufacturer, so we have to keep tabs on thousands of line items of inventory and multiple jobs for over 100 clients. There used to be a time where we did this using index cards, but we have come a long way. We didn't get all components of the system, but we have gradually added pieces, like most recently, we added Data Collection which we are still getting used to. Our goal is to have the ability to better understand the time spent on each job. We had a consultant come out for one day to train us one-on-one and it was just what we needed to understand how the system works. Videos can only make one so comfortable.

Pros: Easy to use Easy to navigate Flexibility

Cons: Cannot open multiple windows to compare data A lot of different pieces to add, can get expensive Must pay for service package, even if you don't want it.

Comments: These are just wish list items, but would be valuable time savers. Overall, I like the system.

Pros: I find JobBoss to be a valuable tool for my daily task. It is easy to use. The customer support is always very helpful. The export function is also a big plus for my reporting needs.

Cons: I wish there was a way to import information. It would be a valuable if spreadsheet data could be imported to generate Journal entries rather than typing. The journal models are great but for data that changes month to month it doesn't really help. It would also be useful if you could add a description to each JE line. It would save research time later. It would also be nice if there were a field to add comments or notes to the A/R and A/P aging reports. Adding information on collection calls or issues with payments etc...

Comments: I have worked on many different MRP/ERP systems over the years and was previously used to automated material planning. In moving to a small company that had been using jobboss for a couple years I was original skeptical -- but have come to like it for the capabilities it has relative to the low cost of acquisition.

Pros: Ease of making changes and acquiring data through either crystal reports or jobboss reports

Cons: I don't like that the router template information doesn't update live when descriptions, costs or other info is updated in other portions of the programs.

Recommendations to other buyers: You do need to be a "self-starter" in some respects to work with this system. I didn't get any training when I took over this position and had to figure things out on my own and read the help documents quite a bit. Some things are pretty self-explanatory but you have to sometimes research how things tie together when the results aren't what you expect.

Comments: Jobboss is easy to use. It needs a lot more features and flexibility. I do not think it has kept up the times. It has done a few updates here and there, but it has not done a major overhaul or improvement in years. We have looked at other software and it can do so much more than Jobboss. All Jobboss had done is add on utilities that you need to buy and they are not part of the program. Most of the utilities should be part of the core of Jobboss. The main part of Jobboss just doesn't change or improve any. I don't want to buy a ton of utilities to make Jobboss work like it should.

Pros: Easy to use.

Cons: No major improvements for a long time, only add on utilities or fixes. Seems outdated compared with other software. Not flexible to our needs.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you are running a small, simple business it might be good for a starter software. For growing business, this probably is not the software for you. It doesn't seem to grow with the times.

Comments: Exact customer support is outstanding. They are very helpful to support their product. We have found out that custom reporting has become second nature for the traceability and functions we need to support the aerospace industry. Full implementation has taken longer than we expected, but it appears that is the norm with all software packages.

Pros: JobBoss support listens to your complaints. Some become enhancements, and they are addressed in future releases. Most modules are user friendly. JobBoss works well with Unipoint.

Cons: Revision changes to part numbers, JobBoss does not support revision changes very well at all. Tracking material lots is a challenge as well. Revision history control in purchases order is not supported well. Would like sales orders to support one line item with multiple releases.

Comments: The company I worked for has had JobBOSS since 1989. I have been using JobBOSS for 3 years now. Overall it is straightforward and fairly easy to use. I'm looking forward to the 12.0 release which will hopefully improve the software even more.

Pros: Overall Ease of use. Great tools available for custom reporting and database monitoring.

Cons: Scheduling module is tedious. Quote, quantity specific tool can cause headaches with complex quotes.

Recommendations to other buyers: When setting up the software for the first time, be diligent in making sure that it is an accurate reflection of how the shop runs and the software are set up properly. Improper setup of work centers/costing/material control will make it difficult for the more advanced tools to work well for you down the road. Make sure to current on software updates, and make sure your employees are well trained in the proper use of the software!

Comments: We have been using JobBoss for many years in a Mold shop. It takes a little time to learn the software and it's full functions, but it has been very good in our environment. We are using data collection!

Pros: East of use and Customer Support are the best in the industry. The quoting to Job to timekeeping to invoicing the job is easy to follow. We didn't get all components of the system, but we have gradually added pieces, we added Data Collection and are very happy with it. Our goal is to have the ability to better understand the time spent on each job.

Cons: Current PAYROLL module needs to be replaced soon with replacement Red Wing Accounting Software. Users get "stuck" as logged in once an a while, and have to be logged out by Customer Support.

Comments: I don't know about the last couple of versions of the software but I would NEVER recommend the new 12.07 to anyone other than my competitors :-) This is not sour grapes on my behalf just the sad state of affairs. This review by the way was written after they were advised of the issues and I received the " not my problem" response.

Pros: We have had it for almost 20 years and so we are comfortable with how it generally works. We have used the accounting as well as data gathering modules for a very long time.

Cons: Filled with bugs and the feedback is to use "workarounds" to deal with the issues instead of the bugs being corrected. I'm not sure they even have the ability / staff to address issues. The age old take it as it is attitude is alive and well.

Comments: We have used this product for over 2 years. It took a little bit to get the hang of it but it is one of the strongest tools we have in our shop now! There is no way we would go back to our old way of doing things!!

Pros: The one thing we like a lot is the quick overview that jobboss allows

Cons: we attach drawings and pictures to all of our part numbers. There is not a straightforward way to just say "ok I have attached a drawing right here now allow it to be shown on all operations" you have to manually enter the drawings on each operation which is ok but can take some time. If this was cleaned up then it would get my 5 starts for ease of use

Recommendations to other buyers: This is truly the most straightforward software out there (we had tried a few before we settled on this)

Pros: The product is inexpensive. I think that the client front end is user-friendly, and the packed in data collection components are robust. The simplicity of the product makes the maintenance costs lower and the data accessibility (outside of the client) higher. Their online knowledge base, user forums, and simple training videos provide a great deal of information on the product and how to use and maintain it.

Cons: The product appears to have severe legacy issues in terms of database design, which leads to what should should be unnecessary calls to support in order to clear up "dirty data" issues. The web support and phone support calls are fielded by different groups of technicians, and the phone support group seems to have a thing for hours-long employee meetings that take down the support line. In the end, the support issues don't matter too much since the answer is usually something along the lines of "that's interesting", or "yeah, we know about that". More aggravating though, the application has a habit of crashing for reasons unknown (though somewhat less-so than older versions). I'm not directly familiar with the inner workings of it, but I've been told on more than one occasion that the accounting portions are quite lacking.

Recommendations to other buyers: There's a lot of 'bang for the buck' in this little package, and I've heard mostly good things about the manufacturing parts of the application. You could do far worse when looking at entry level ERP packages; however, if you need more robust accounting capabilities or have a low tolerance for technical snafus then you may need to look elsewhere.

Comments: We have had JobBoss since 2009. It was a huge improvement from the system we were using back then. Over the last 8 years, JobBoss has been very receptive of ideas for software improvement. The majority of these changes have been incremental. I would have expected to see more drastic improvements in those 8 years, but with version 12.0 coming out soon, we will see if the technology and software has taken a leap forward. It would be nice to see JobBoss focus more on their app for iOS and Android and increase the functionality of it.

Pros: It is well suited for a job shop and ShopBoss is huge in scheduling our shop.

Cons: Little issues that don't make certain modules that functional. Some tasks can be quite tedious to get through.

Comments: We purchased the JobBoss system about 11 months ago and are about to take it live. we to the 2 day Job Control Workshop and it was very informative. The process has been slow because of how busy we have been and getting it us ready for implementation has been pushed to the back burner a few times. The people at Exact have been good to work with and answer my questions in a timely manner.

Pros: All in one shop control. Many sources to learn from. Online classes with learning pass have been very helpful. 2-day job control was excellent.

Cons: building the database from our dissembled old system was time-consuming but that was our old ways fault. the system is set up for a small product (only a few components per part) and our system is a large complicated system we have to learn how to do multi stage component jobs and the learning center recorded lessons all do just small widget examples. would be nice to have a class on large multi component job building. Need a class on Solidwork BOL uploads.

Comments: I have had good and bad from JobBoss. However, the good has out weighted the bad. Basically, it comes down to who you get on the support line. Sometimes inexperienced support has messed me up big time. But overall your support team has been very knowledgeable and patient. Your product is cutting edge and keeps pace with technology. Your Payroll product is the easiest to learn and navigate that I have used. I love Jobboss payroll.

Pros: Cutting edge technology and support are responsive.

Cons: Upgrades have been difficult, bugs are often the norm. Annual support is costly.

Recommendations to other buyers: I would recommend JobBoss to anyone looking for the software to run their Job shop, with the caution that the annual support is costly.

Pros: Tractability on just about everything. Efficiencies, Material Planning

Cons: Vacations can not be entered in Job Boss ahead of time otherwise, overtime is paid out. Not being able to do this make scheduling less accrete. Quoting is not accrete in the system. Unipoint does not give PPM. Knowledge sync and Unipoint are a separate program. For my shift, I have 2 paid breaks. Pros: Seems to be an adequate system for manufacturing. I have nothing else to compare it to. I come from the non-profit world.

Cons: We under utilize it because we do not seem to have people proactively seeking or asking for training. Could be a little more user friendly in certain areas. How to's/ suggested ideas to utilize the system. Easier access for all to tutorials. Our people expect to just be told how to do their job in it. Pros: Adaptability between job shop type production to repetitive manufacturing, real time labor tracking, finished inventory tracking.

Cons: All modules are contained within jobboss, meaning you cannot break modules out in separate windows to work in multiple modules at a time next to each other. the flipping back and forth causes errors from time to time. Raw material is not that easily maintained. It only shows you total amount of material in stock, and the work around ,per Jobboss support, to track individual pieces is too cumbersome to maintain with accuracy.

Comments: It has been frustrating and VERY long hours getting everything set up to even use. The "demo" looks great, the sales personnel does a great job in "selling" but we have found it very difficult to learn and use. The consultant they send to your place is knowledgeable but we spent a lot of time just teaching him what our business was and how we operated. We were just has frustrated when he left, as we were before he came. I would not recommend this software to companies that don't fit in JobBoss' mold. The accounting, payroll and shop floor management have all been high learning curves!!!

Pros: I have found Tech Support, and general customer service employees quite helpful.

Cons: Not a software for EVERY shop manufacturing business. Expensive mistake if it doesn't fit your needs, as we're finding out after the purchase.

Recommendations to other buyers: Don't purchase without getting answers to how your business really works. We thought we had... being told "yes, it can do that" when in reality it doesn't, or, we haven't learned how to manipulate the software to work in our company.

Comments: We love using JobBoss as our MRP software that pretty much maintains and produce all production going through our facility. The tools are excellent and easy to use. We know there is plenty more that we could still take advantage of using JobBoss, so many options to explore to improve efficiency and overall processes of our business. All in all, a great software and would recommend to any manufacturing company.

Pros: Ease of use, detailed modules.

Cons: So much to learn, not necessarily a bad thing, but would have definitely done the initial start up differently to ensure we didn't miss any valuable information to set up our processes a certain way.

JobBoss is not user-friendly. Way too many errors and long response times. Customer support is a joke. The 12.0 update adds blue to the interface, nothing more.

Pros: I like how JobBoss has features to better coordinate within your business and how to more efficiently run things. This is the main reason why we bought it.

Cons: Contrary to popular belief, JobBoss is horrible quality for what we put into it. Our company has put thousands of dollars into this Software and even bought several of the utilities. Firstly, the CAD BOM Import Utility has a character limit for multiple level jobs. We build big machines and thus require a lot of Assemblies and Sub-Assemblies. After importing the BOM from Solidworks and trying to upload it to a job, the only way to do so is to create new jobs for each Sub-Assembly which do not link to the Parent Job. In addition to this problem, we constantly get connection issues and incredibly long response times when entering multiple line items on Purchase Orders, Sales Orders, Materials on a Job, etc. Customer "Joke" Support has been contacted several times regarding this and they never seem to come up with a solution on 99% of all issues. They respond to customer requests in a completely untimely manner. This company is not customer-friendly and very well may never be. God knows how they even got bought out by someone else. One of the worlds mysteries that I will never know the answer to.

Pros: Seems to be flexible enough for our metal stamping job shop which as over 250 unique jobs. Vendor help was readily available for set up and use.

Cons: The product is not intuitive and there were too may ways to perform the same function with no help from the vendor on how to decide the best for our shop. Vendor webinars were a waste of time. There is no lesson plan and the teachers don't seem to want to answer specific questions about the problems we were having with set up. They give you different answers to the same question without advice on the what results from each answer. They seem to want to just sell more classes, one guy spent about 20 minutes telling me his life story.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you are considering this software try to find a company who will give you their experiences. Make sure you know what you want the software to achieve for your company and list it in order of importance. Our last program was a 1978 inventory program which did not have the capability to track job and inventory costs. We will be better able determine our costs so we can give more accurate quotes and determine where costs can be better managed. There is a lot of data entry and steps to perform tasks such as shipping and purchase orders, quotes and jobs, but all that data is available in forms and reports (when Crystal reports is working right). So the data entry is not a waste of time when you can get valuable information from it.

Comments: I really don't have any experience with other job shop software, company was already using JobBoss when I started here. JobBoss really needs to improve functionalities such as more filters on reports, and one really BIG dysfunction with it is that it DOES NOT update on the fly. The user options fall short of what is needed to improve efficiency. I don't like that you have to use the tab key instead of the enter key and another problem is that you cannot see/access all the data from the master file from any screen, you have to go in and out of different screens to see complete data. Also unforgiving when it comes to updating and editing information. I like the integration with QuickBooks for small businesses, I recommend this option instead of using the accounting in JobBoss. I am extremley happy with the way this works. It's not perfect you still have to manually enter some data because it doesn't transfer everything complete, such as extra shipping addresses. But it generally works great and saves alot of time. JobBoss software is comparable to the functionality of Peachtree vs QuickBooks anyone familiar with them will know what I mean by that. Peachtree can also be unforgiving just like JobBoss is sometimes.

Pros: QuickBooks integration

Cons: Doesn't update on the fly, you have to close out and open back up for update to apply.

Recommendations to other buyers: This software works fine for small to mid sized business. But should probably explore all the options first.

Pros: What do I like best about the vendor? Access to information and support is only a phone call away. A dedicated customer advocate is always ready to answer our questions, and there is never any pressure to purchase products/services we don't need. What do I like best about the product ? It consolidates all of our company-related information in one place, making it simple for all of our staff to quickly put their finger on any number they need. Whether it's viewing a packlist in shipping, checking employee attendance for payroll, confirming work in progress, or printing out a wide range of reports for monthly meetings, JobBOSS keeps it all at our fingertips.

Cons: We are a Canadian company ,and Exact JobBOSS is based in, and primarily written for, the United States market, so there are a few "glitches" in integrating with Canadian bookkeeping requirements. JobBOSS is always open to discussing our concerns, and we're looking forward to a proactive solution to resolve these issues in future updates.

Recommendations to other buyers: Take the time to view all of the webinars and read the fact sheets. Talk to a JobBOSS customer advocate and get referrals to local users; ask to see JobBOSS in action at a business that is similar to your own. Even if no one is running JobBOSS close to your location, the wonders of the internet allow remote desktop viewing so you can see firsthand how easy JobBOSS is to navigate, as well as all of the information it collects, stores, and delivers for you.

Pros: Crystal reporting in JobBOSS is a huge time and money saver. They are very helpful to determine delivery schedules, and review On-Time delivery at the end of each month. We use dozens of reports that we have customized which help plan, schedule, and review.

Cons: The data on existing reports when exported to excel are difficult to manipulate. Therefore, modifying the reports has helped us, but you need to have someone with decent knowledge of Crystal to help with it.

Comments: We got on board with Jobboss in the end of 1999 and have never looked back. We are a job shop and don't really take advantage of all the things jobboss can do but it really does work for us. We have the basic set-up and use it for simple quoting, time tracking, PO's (outgoing) and material tracking, job cost details. We have customized a few things in the house so this all works for us. Some of the old school things we can do are print a customer and vendor phone list and we put into a 3 punch folder. This is very handy when non-logged in departments just need a quick phone number. Job boss has a great learning tool that I have taken the time to watch videos and after years of working with job boss, I still learn something new. I really like their export tools as for the fact we live in a digital world.

Pros: Easy to use and understand. It can be a detail as you like. Sometimes you just need something quick.

Cons: There is a yearly cost to be on maintenance for every seat and if it is linked to accounting software like quickbooks

Comments: They promised seem less integration with ups, solid works, and quick books and none of that is true.

Pros: They over sell their conferences and label them as training but it is really a sales pitch for more money.

Cons: The modules are stitched together as though it was developed one piece at a time. Bad support. They give very little help but offer lots of work around with obvious issues. Each update claims to fix old bugs but only half fixes and then creates more.

Comments: JobBoss has brought a better understanding of our business to everyone in our organization, regardless of their position.

Pros: The fact that the software is almost designed specifically for a fabrication, manufacturing shop is it's greatest attribute for our organization.

Cons: Because it is a canned software package, there are a few minor things that are missed for our organization specifically. However that by no means minimizes it's benefits to our organization.

Comments: As a Manufacturer we use Exact JobBoss throughout our organization. Our two locations are in SW Ohio, each with 30+ employees and 35,000 square feet of machining, welding and assembly operations. Most of our customers want a quick response. So scheduling is important, as well as tracking our costs. Using the JobBoss data collection system we are able to track jobs on the floor in real time. Our travelers are bar coded to reduce errors and allow employees to scan job information from the traveler. JobBoss does a nice job of continually improving the software. The current version is 11.5. Version 11 includes an upgrade to the scheduling module as well as improvements to other areas. Typically an upgrade is offered every 2 - 3 years with minor revisions each year. JobBoss input screens have a logical process layout and icons are placed so that you can check information easily in other areas. For instance, when entering an order it is easy to check stock status, profitability or quality data for past jobs. JobBoss has two very handy viewers. The first is ShopView, which is very helpful for checking order status and details on past orders. Right down to when the material was pulled and by whom. The second is ShopStats, which provides an excellent overview of the company. There are four tabs, Customers, Production, Vendors, Financial: each with key statistics for the past 6 months. JobBoss created a handy system for communicating events within your shop called ShopAlerts. Almost any event within JobBoss can be designated to trigger an email or an alert to any user. Re-order material, New Order release, Part scrapped, etc. Exact JobBoss is central to running our businesses and continues to be a valuable tool for us.

Comments: LifeLine has been in business since 1991 and has grown to a mid-size business, with a 100,000 square foot warehouse and 75 employees. We used a lot of Excel spreadsheets and manual tracking, prior to Job Boss. We also had a manual punch time clock! In 2005, we began our search for new software that could meet both our current needs and continued growth. We needed software that could integrate and streamline our inventory, time and attendance, job costing, and accounting function all in one. We evaluated several different software systems, but decided on JobBoss based on a number of factors including cost, ease of use, service after the sale, and the ability to adapt the software to our specific setup. We purchased JobBoss, including the accounting and data collection modules, in March 2006 and provided ourselves with a nine-month window to implement it, going live on January 1, 2007. Implementation went well, with no major problems. We purchased and used 32 hours of on-site consulting to assist with the implementation, which I highly recommend. The consultant saved us a significant amount of time with implementation by providing one-on-one training, explaining set up options that similar companies successfully used, and helping us with importing data. We also took advantage of the free on-line training available through the portal. Fast forward to 2012, we have been extremely happy with the overall service, tech support, software upgrades and efficiency that JobBoss has provided our organization. JobBoss has eliminated the manual tracking and reporting system we previously used, has provided us with accurate job and labor costs, and continues to support our business needs as we continue to grow.

Comments: I have used most areas of the software minus the accounting section. Overall it is good software once it has been set up. Launching jobs for quote templates work well for us, but the software has moved away from this style of launching jobs.

Cons: I find the scheduling module is the weakest area that I use regularly. Our accounting department does not like the accounting module.

Pros: How easy it is to Navigate around the program. I have had no "formal" training in navigating around the system when i started, but after about 2 weeks it was pretty easy to catch on.

Cons: The inability to modify reports unless you export them to excel or pay a lot off money to have an outside source do it, or spend big bucks to have an individual trained to be able to do Crystal Reports.

Recommendations to other buyers: This software is user friendly in my opinion. There are drawbacks, but you know what.....most things in life do. The Scheduler is the only training I have had. If you plan to use this module....I highly highly highly recommend you do the training first. It is, in my opinion, a complex module. It also has its flaws, but it is better than using an excel spreadsheet.

Cons: We had a hard time with material at first, but after taking online classes we can now control our inventory.

Comments: It does not make sense to have the packing list & invoice information print out differently. The PO#, PART#, and Packing list# are important information on an invoice and should be easy to find and located in the first few lines of the Invoice, not hard to find and in the lower/middle invoice area. Also, the customer's PO# should be easier to find on the packing list -again, not located towards the bottom.

Pros: It tracks information for each job so you don't have to enter it yourself, which saves time and money.

Cons: The way the invoice and packing list information are not located in the same places when they are printed. This makes them harder to match up for us and our customers. For example, PO# and PART#.

Comments: Job Boss is user-friendly. The canned reports have too much info on them but it is easy to transfer to excel to get more concise info.

Pros: The ease of use.

Cons: Needs a better accounting package and I think the training should be more affordable. Also, need more local consultants.

Comments: I like that I'm able to keep all my information in one place. log in and see where my jobs are, if they are on track, etc. Not always having to run to the floor and talk to 4 or 5 different people to find out where a job is located, etc before I figure out what's going on. Saves me time and effort.

Comments: Jobboss has been an asset for us even though there are a number of small improvements that would make the system customized specific for our operation. it's fairly easy to use and helps our productivity on a daily basis.

Pros: Very stable program

Cons: Not able to customize as would like.

Basic shop management software lacking refinement and flash, but a great overall value.

Comments: Super powerful software; the only issue is that when you start, you know so little, you tend to make mistakes I wish I could start over right now after using it for 5 years!

Pros: Customizable

Cons: Somewhat hard to make it do what I want, instead of what it wants

Able to introduce and train new hires quickly.

Comments: We switched to JobBOSS in December of 2006, after attending an IMTS show and viewing the ease of use of their software. Our previous software had become cumbersome and hard to use. Implementation at the end of the year was a lofty goal, but with all hands in on the conversion we were able to migrate the data on our own in two weeks. Some modules were left unused for the first couple of months but by the 6th month we were utilizing everything. JobBOSS is easy to train on and having a "dummy" database to play with helps with new ideas or training purposes. When we implemented, half of the trainees were interns (straight out of school) but everybody was able to pick it up with ease. Our JobBOSS trainer worked at the speed we needed him to be at to be up and running with the software by January 2007- fast on some days, slow on other days. We do no seek JobBOSS customer support that often. There are the occasional bugs that you will get with any software upgrade but we have not sought additional help with their software. In my chats with other users, I have talked with " half users" of the software and wonder how they can maintain two different software and databases for everyday business functions. JobBOSS is spectacular if you utilize every module and report. It is what you put into it. Put everything into and it will let you see everything you need to know.

Pros: After setting up the program (inputting work centers, operations, employees, shifts, etc.), it is very simple and straightforward to use. The on-demand training videos were very well put together.

Cons: There are small nit-picky details that are annoying until they become second nature. For example, just about every module in the program makes you enter an input and won't activate the rest of the screen until you press tab, not enter like most every other program. For some more complicated functions, (we wanted to use the program as a record of material properties of samples we test in our lab and put together our own reports separate from the pre-loaded ones) you almost had to pay an extra fee for a customer service representative to talk you through the process. There was documentation on their website, but it was very hard to find and implement.

Recommendations to other buyers: I would advise someone to take full advantage of the training videos available on Exact's website, and if you are not a typical job shop, think carefully about how you want to use and implement the program into your current setup.

Pros: When you use JobBOSS to it's full potential, it's such a burden release as far as monotonous daily work. Once you get the hang of the way that the system works, you can typically figure out how to do anything with it.

Cons: For our company in particular, JobBOSS isn't created for what we do. We have to adjust a lot and give up some things to get it to work for us. I wish there were more options for companies like ours.
