### "Allowing my nonprofit's website to stay adaptive and relevant amidst an ever-changing web."

March 31, 2021

5.0

Squarespace won me over after years of thinking I could do a better job "designing it" on my own with free templates for WordPress. Time and time again I would spend days or weeks on the site, be happy with it, and then months later it would all be out of date, look old, and not function in the ways that information transfer had shifted by internet users. I decided that a professional, clean and easy to use Squarespace site, with robust back-end capabilities is what I needed, and I have not been disappointed.

Pros

Squarespace really has their act together in offering a clean, easy to use , beautiful web building platform. I run a media and video production nonprofit, and the needs and functionality of my site have evolved almost yearly since 2013. The way that people engage with content on the internet is always changing, and I got caught up in the flow of trying to always evolve the website to keep up. I used GoDaddy and WordPress for too many years, and eventually migrated them all to Squarespace because it was all just so much more streamlined, modern, clean and simple. I now have the basic website I need, and know that there are many many ways to customize it if needed without messing up the whole site (as happened many times on WordPress) I changed my entire .com and .org from a WordPress template on GoDaddy, and could not be happier with the customer service I received from Squarespace, they were so helpful in getting everything aligned for the transition.

Cons

I wish there were maybe 15-20 more templates, and that a few of them were specifically meant for video galleries, as that is what my organization focuses on in our storytelling, videos. I would love a template tailor made for aggregating videos. For now I can use a photo gallery or blog and adapt it, which works fine, but my wish list would be a video focused and designed template.

Reason for choosing Squarespace

It met all of my needs, was around the same price, and I love that hosting, domain and templates can all just be wrapped into one account. Squarespace just had the better lookcng websites templates as well, and customer service did not disappoint!

Squarespace had a comparable price, much more attractive templates, and a reputation for customer service that met expectations! I also just trusted and knew from looking at other sites, that Squarespace keeps up with what a modern website "should" have and look like to engage users. I'm not a designer or UI person, and trust Squarespace. It's worth paying them to do the design so I can just plug in content!

### "The argument for Squarespace over Wordpress: for simplicity and beginners"

July 26, 2018

5.0

Pros

There are many, many website creation platforms… and making the wrong decision is a disaster no one should have encounter. Because Squarespace and Wordpress are so prominently recognized, this review is intended for those trying to decide between the two. Overall, I would recommend Squarespace for organizations, entrepreneurs, small size businesses, startup company, or anyone who wants to take a more simplistic approach to building their website. Wordpress would be better utilized for websites with a lot of content, images, or heavily customizable needs and/or larger businesses. Pros Squarespace website generation platform is a heavily controlled and monitored environment, run only by the company itself. All the testing is done within their own environment to ensure all plugins, tools, etc. are running correctly at all times. Squarespace is a great fit for beginners who would prefer to have the web creation platform make the decisions for you or those who want something simple and navigationally instinctual. Navigating my way around Squarespace took me a simple day to learn its ins and outs; it took me nearly a year to learn all the unique, in-depth features of Wordpress. Because Squarespace is not an open source platform, its customer support team is available 24-hours a day, to help resolve issues and provide advice (via live chat). It’s their responsibility to fix any plugins, or issues that arise outside of your control. In contrast Wordpress is an open source platform, meaning the responsibility for fixing any issues that arise would fall on you; you will most likely need to hire outside help if you are a beginner and/or have little tech/coding experience. Although Wordpress is more customizable (developers/programmers can create their own plugins, themes, and tools and apply it to your site for a specific look) you take the risk of running into potential compatibility issues; open source does not always guarantee 100% reliability.

Cons

Because Squarespace is a more simplistic approach to web creation, you don’t have the option to fully customize the theme or jazz it up the way you may want. If you are really looking to create a website that is fully automated and stands out from the general information website I would suggest WordPress. I have not found Squarespace’s community help center to be as helpful in providing answers or pointing me in the right direction, however you always have support available to you; Wordpress has a larger collection of help forums on the web that can help you figure out fix issues, compatibility, coding adjustments, etc.

### "The Best Web hosting-developing-creating platform EVER! "

March 1, 2023

5.0

Squarespace saved me time, effort and a massive learning curve associate with other platforms. I would use Squarespace again.

Pros

I loved the intuative design of Squarespace. It was so easy to use and customize. The customer support was terrific and the Squarespace community was helpful as well. Everything about this software was useable, efficient and very well designed.I never had to worry that my site looked different on a computer or mobile device. I was able to edit things visually and not have to know too much about coding or back-end editing.

Cons

The only drawback for me was the cost. We could no longer afford the price-tag of this product. However - you get what you pay for. If you are able to swing the cost, this software is well worth it.

### "Squarespace the only merchant account service you will ever need..."

April 16, 2022

After looking into a lot of other merchant services, Square is the one for me. If you're just starting, or a mid-level business, they are all you need. Hopefully, they have something for large-scale business. I would keep using their service.

Pros

It is truly the best! Hands down. No overcharges, no monthly fees. I love it.

Cons

I really can not say a con to Squarespace. To me, it is simply the best. You can keep your money working with Square.

### "Easy to use website builder with a professional set of Features"

April 19, 2022

5.0

Overall I'm very happy that I switched from a manual-driven wordpress Website/Shop to fully intergrated Squarespace. Have no worries about hosting, Updating wordpress and woocommerce and the site is working properly!

Pros

Most of selfemployed people running their own business are looking for an easy going solution to create a new website. Sure, wordpress just needs a hosting-space, a template and everything is fine... but with squarespace you can skip all the technical-hosting-Stuff and start with the websitbuilder and a template you like for your business. You can use 14days of trial and set up a website. If you like it, pay for the priceplan you need (with oder without a shop-solution) and everything is fine.

Cons

If you really want to customize the Design and some details in your template you have to start writing in the SS forums. Most of the time, you get a quick answer. But sometimes it's a bit of try&error until it is working like you wanted to change details in your website template.

### "A great website host/builder for beginners"

April 29, 2022

4.0

Overall, I love using Squarespace. I have used various website host/builders and many are pretty clunky… Squarespace is not! It is generally very intuitive and I am glad that this is what we use.

Pros

I love that this software is so easy to use. I can have a functioning and beautiful page in a matter of minutes now that our site is established. Obviously if you have to build something then it takes longer but often there templates have the built in functions I need them to have. I love how beautiful our website looks with such minimal effort.

Cons

Squarespace sometimes has these weird spacing issues when we us specific functions, most of the time I find a work around but I don't always the knowledge to actively work around the issues and the support articles can be hit or miss.

### "Squarespace, perhaps the best first-generation low-code website builder"

July 26, 2020

3.0

Squarespace is our goto for standard business sites including our site; we run heavy ecommece clients on Shopify, and anything more advanced on Duda or WordPress. Squarespace does win the first-gen low-code war -- way ahead of Weebly, Wix, or some of the others. The platform needs to decide which next market to focus on to continue to be relevant as Duda, Versoly, and other 2nd-gen platforms emerge.

Pros

Squarespace makes it easy to get websites up quickly -- we've built three, and all went from zero to launch within three days. If you just need some standard startup landing pages, Squarespace is for you. Their customer support is great if about the basic blocks.

Cons

Squarespace has some gotchas that make for substantial challenges beyond the first few months of business unless you're willing to either pay for external plugins or write code, and that comes with several major caveats, such as: \* weird things such as sliders for images simply don't exist \* custom CSS only applies at the site and not the page level \* spacing is somewhat odd with no fine-grain control \* certain JS plugins simply don't work on the site \* there is NO undo of any unkind except plaintext \* there is NO copy/paste or page templating Perhaps the biggest issue is that it feels like Squarespace is trying to straddle the fence between being the leading CMS and the leading ecommerce platform and as a result it is neither. Frankly, the basic site experience is such that we'd be very reticent to ever deploy the ecommerce capability for a client, and so we use it for customers with mostly static content who blog a couple of times / week or less. The lack of premium support for code issues further hampers their market share -- adding that as an option might provide more revenue for them and a way forward, as few other platforms do.

### "Web Design, but make it fun. "

December 11, 2019

5.0

I first started using Squarespace under another Photographer, whom I was managing their studio and day to day "to-do's". I took over her website maintenance and blog, to which was surprisingly easy to navigate. I loved how I was able to read analytics and see what content was working and what was not. The sleek layouts made a few easy clicks look like I spent 4 years in web design. So it was really a no brainer when I decided to start my own business; I knew I would be showing my work to the world through Squarespace. There is just something about the designs of these Squarespace websites that look stunningly polished and exceptionally functional.

Pros

As a former user of Wordpress, I found Squarespace to be a breath of fresh air. I've be using it since 2014 and have never looked back. It actually made designing my website and grabbing analytics fun! When navigating the software, it felt like I had been here before. It was so easy to find the tools and customize the fonts and sizing to my preferences. Adding pictures in where I need them is easy and the layouts they offer display my work in such a beautiful fashion that even I'm blown away. All in all, I love this software because it offers so many different themes and customizations without being confusing. It's actually fun and I love that a blog is included with my site. It's like a whole other site to customize and tweak to your taste. I was never a blogger before but now I don't have a choice, Squarespace makes it too easy to make excuses now.

Cons

There are very few things that come to mind when talking about disliking this software. I do wish there was a larger library of fonts readily available for each area of customization, across all themes.

### "A wonderful template-based website builder with a lot to learn"

February 7, 2022

4.0

SquareSpace was a web design option I looked at. It's cool software, hard to use for someone like me, but clearly gets the job done for so many others.

Pros

I love the designs that other people create on SS. That's about where it ends for me. I can acknowledge that the platform works and helps millions of people, but it does not suit my workflow.

Cons

I dislike the inability to drag and drop elements anywhere I'd like to on my templates. As a graphic designer, I want complete, absolute control over the look, feel and placement of elements on my site, and although SquareSpace gives you plenty of flexibility in this way, what they do not give you is freedom

### "Easy to Use"

May 14, 2023

4.0

Squarespace is a user-friendly website that can allow you to create a professional looking layout in a matter of minutes. I have never had an issue with design, file management, or content addition.I do not like the high fees for Squarespace, nor do I like that I cannot have a live chat with customer support.

Pros

There are many customizable templates to pick from. There are also constant updates with added on features.Overall, the back end is really use to use and self intuitive. You can edit a web page in minutes.I can make my website interactive, thereby allowing users to interact and engage. The graphic layouts are attractive. There are many user guides that allow you to troubleshoot features. There are many professional layouts, it makes my business look presentable.

Cons

Squarespace increased the fee for its users, without grandfathering in users that paid the older price. This makes me wary of how often they may increase their pricing for loyal customers.Once you select a template, it is difficult to switch to another website template. There is no real time customer service- it is through email, unless you pay extra fees.

We build exclusively on Squarespace. Our clients LOVE how easy it is to learn to make quick updates themselves like text or swapping out photos. Not only is our team able to easily use the product, but our clients, too!

Pros

Squarespace has powerful integrations that support the product/site. The update to Fluid engine has made design more effective. We also started using Acuity Scheduling -- game changer for complex scheduling!

Cons

### "A good attempt"

December 21, 2021

3.0

I thought it was a platform that could be better than others, however it has not been a good experience. It falls very short with what it was and is, with what it pretends to offer and offers.

Pros

Squarespace, arguably earned its popularity with certain designs that were sleek and minimalistic. But it seems to have camped out in that comfort zone because it is no longer the same as it was a few years ago, things change. It's partly easy to use, as long as you're not looking for extraordinary things.

Cons

There is no clear integration with social networks, at the same time the templates they offer are outdated. It works more as a portfolio than as a website or blog. Even so, there are many tools that it offers and it is not useful.

### "SquareSpace is a let-down. It's hard to use and is missing basic features. The marketing fooled me! "

July 23, 2019

2.0

Overall, I hated using SquareSpace and I was so disappointed because I switched away from WordPress + Divi to give SquareSpace a whirl based on SquareSpace's amazing marketing. What a let down. I will never use SquareSpace again. My client wanted both of his sites designed in SquareSpace because he was also duped by the ads. I made one site and it took forever because I was constantly googling how to do something with code to get the site how we wanted it. If you use SquareSpace be prepared to be frustrated or to hire a developer. Basic functionality is missing and you can't copy anything you've done to use elsewhere. I wanted to duplicate the first site and modify it for the second. You can't do that. I had to make both sites from scratch. Support was absolutely terrible. Zero help compared to the awesome Divi support staff that has made my designing life so great for so many years (I'm not an affiliate, just a fan). Oh! And SquareSpace is expensive! You have to pay for each and every site. With WordPress, you pay for hosting somewhere, like Siteground, and you can add as many sites to that account as you like no charge. Squarespace has pretty templates that you can't modify pretty much at all, and it's expensive with terrible support. Do not choose SquareSpace as your CMS unless you are a developer. Awful.

Pros

SquareSpace has beautiful templates. They are truly gorgeous. SquareSpace also has an easy-to-use sidebar of options that puts everything that you can do on the left side. The interface is as clean as the templates. Hosting of your site is done through Squarespace. That's it when it comes to pros. There are a ton of Cons to using SquareSpace.

Cons

As a WordPress user (who has also designed with Wix), SquareSpace falls short almost everywhere. You can't import your brand font—essential. You have to use code or a back-door solution with AdobeFonts. If you want 5 items in a row, no can do. You get 4 or 6. You can't drag the amount of padding around items and sections. You must use spacer blocks (time consuming and such a bad way to do things). There's no media storage! If you upload your photo it isn't stored anywhere for easy selection later. You must upload the same image multiple times whenever you need it—frustrating. Changes can't be made on individual copy styles. Squarespace sets up its CMS as a global system so if you want to change the way your font looks in just one place, you need to insert code (markdown block). You should be able to select it and change the size or colour. But no. It's CRAZY! So time-consuming. Missing basic word-processing functionality. Squarespace has no plugin options. You can't duplicate a page of your site and you can't duplicate your site! Everything is done from scratch! In WordPress, you download a .JSON file and upload it somewhere else and you're flying. Not with SquareSpace. You can't make your overlays look different per section. Everything applies globally. You can't add borders to images. The biggest CON? There's no undo! No revision history. If you delete something accidentally, it's gone forever. Support is terrible. Every answer is "you can't do that" or "try to find code.

Reason for choosing Squarespace

Because my client wanted me to design using this CMS and before I used it I was curious (even excited) to give this terrible CMS a try. What a bad experience! If you are not tech-savvy, choose Wix. If you are tech savvy, choose WordPress with the amazing Divi theme by Elegant Themes. You will be sorry you chose SquareSpace immediately.

### "Simple to use and aesthetically pleasing templates"

June 30, 2022

4.0

Squarespace simplifies website design and management, perfectly adequate for those running their own business and are not overly technical. Responsive and detailed support from their team is appreciated when issues arise.

Pros

For my purposes, Sqaurespace is an easy to manage website builder. Their designs and templates are simple and applicable to the needs of the majority of users. Their website editing tools are easy to learn and require minimal instruction.

Cons

Further customisation of their simple templates is a challenge. The simple editing tools available can be a restriction for those requiring further customisation on even minor aspects of their website. There is room for improvement for the website editor. Know what to expect of websites built using Sqaurespace, don't expect to stray too far away from the provided templates.

### "Best option for Small Businesses that aren't IT savvy"

October 19, 2018

5.0

If you are a small business or a startup trying to get a professional web presence, or an existing company with a horrible website, don't believe the limitations of a decade ago and "pro" web developers and companies that create websites for you for a large sum of money with continuing maintenance costs. Website development sites like Squarespace allow for any moderately computer literate individual to create amazing looking professional websites and professional emails with little hassle. You don't need an IT department or a website developer, and honestly, your site will look better than many I've had created by corporate webdevs. The trick is that sites like Squarespace use templates that you choose and customize with your own content. The con is, while there are tons of options in templates, what you see is what you get and you can really only customize content and minor aesthetics like font, pages, color schemes, pictures, etc. However, the templates are gorgeous and modern designed sites that will make your website look cutting edge. I've used several competitors, and while Wix is probably my next favorite due to customization, Squarespace is leagues better than any other site developer I've used, including Weebly, Wordpress, GoDaddy, Wix, etc. It is just so simple and the templates, while probably the least customization, are the prettiest ones available that add a professional touch you can't replicate in something like Wix. No IT, no problem.

Pros

Ease of use is unparalleled. Templates are aesthetically unmatched by competitors- it's not even close. The ability to switch between templates whenever you want is amazing. Very professional feel to website with seamless G Suite integration. Cost is very competitive. Mobile optimized websites are lightyears beyond GoDaddy and Wix.

Cons

The templates are amazing, and there are a lot of choices, but if you don't like the options, you are stuck with what they have. Customizing is very limited within the Template framework, unlike Wix. In order to be glitch-free and mobile optimized, the templates have very little customization.

### "Easy and Aesthetic Website Building Platform"

August 8, 2022

5.0

Pros

The design templates offered by Squarespace are part of what drew me to using this software to build my art portfolio website and illustration portfolio website. They are clean, simple, but still elegant and logical. I was easily and quickly able to build the site on my own using the interface. It has also been relatively easy to find additional ways to customize my site. The price is fair for what is being offered, I and I like the flexibility of switching plans when I need to adjust for different web needs.

Cons

I have had times where I would like to pause or temporarily take down my website, but in order to do that it would delete the entire site. I would have to rebuild it from scratch (as far as I can tell) if I paused it. I would really like an option to put it on hold and pay a lower rate, but not delete the entire site.

### "Easy to Use But Often Limited"

November 24, 2021

4.0

I had to launch a website—with scheduling and services—in a day, and Squarespace did not disappoint. I was able to do this quickly and easily, with little reference to the user guide. When it came time to launch my own site, I carefully researched and compared Squarespace to other all-in-one solutions, and it came out on top. Most other solutions required more work to build, and it was easy to "break" their templates. It's a real challenge to make a Squarespace template look bad. That being said, there are times where you want to change the color of a header, for example, and you find this is simply not possible. You then have to go on a Google search and find the hidden CSS code for that style and paste it into the custom code window. And most of the time, it doesn't work. So I would like to see them make changes colours more intuitive and easier to do. Another thing to know: you will likely have to pay to get a feature you need, at some point. I needed to have a pop-up email subscription form, and I had to upgrade to "Business" for that. So make sure you scan the features before buying.

Pros

The best thing about Squarespace is that you can launch a simple website in a few hours; grab a template, tweak to taste, and go. The competitors still tend to need direct coding to make them look good, but not with Squarespace. The templates are tasteful and generally easy to edit, plus there is a rich backend with tons of analytical tools and e-commerce features for when you're ready to sell. The website editor is truly WYSIWG (What You See Is What You Get) and adding sections is as easy as a click.

Cons

Squarespace's templates look nice, but there are surprisingly few of them. I've built several sites with Squarespace, but I always grab the same podcasting template because everything else it way too specific: restaurant! Vlogger! Fashion! But precious little for general-purpose sites, with a minuscule selection for a company that's been at this for over 10 years. The WYSIWG editor can be extremely annoying as well, constantly digging into to floating menus just to make simple edits, and it's unclear where things reside sometimes. It's hard to escape the feeling that there has to be a better way. But it is still easy to use.

Reason for choosing Squarespace

Squarespace required the least custom-coding and its templates are the cleanest and hardest to break. I can deploy quickly and add features as I go along.

Designing and maintaining my own website demanded too much of my time, and Wordpress has become a bloated, unsafe platform. I needed a all-in-one solution, and Squarespace was the best bet for me.

### "Squarespace gives you web-designer results even if you don't happen to be one."

July 29, 2019

5.0

Overall, I love this product. Everything just works, all the time. No patches, no updates. Easy, easy, easy. And when I made the switch, the actual initial setup of the site took less than a day. Granted the copy was all mostly written, and I was largely just copying and pasting. But still--the whole website was user-ready in a day.

Pros

Squarespace gives a fantastic user experience at every step of the process. Setup is a snap, site design and layout are easy, with a click-and-drag graphical menu system that makes it easy to visualize the overall structure of the site. Page design is super easy, with drag and drop modules that provide a wide range of functionalities. And there is an integrated store and payment system powered by Stripe. I also love the code block module -- this has been super helpful in beginning to integrate our directory functionality into the website. If you know some HTML, this can be a big plus in adding features. The responsiveness is nearly flawless and (almost always) looks exactly the way I want it to, no matter what device I'm using.

Cons

Squarespace does not provide a native file serving solution. Our organization needs to provide documents, forms, and announcements to members. I have created a workaround using Google Drive and a hyperlinked index page on the site, but if I were not already able to use Google Apps script, the maintenance of this index page would be cumbersome. There is also no member-forum type module offered by Squarespace. Again, there are workarounds for this, but it would be nice to have a native solution. Also, the Squarespace calendar module does not integrate with Google Calendar. Once again, I have found a workaround for this using an <iframe> in an HTML code block, but it would be nice if there were native Google Calendar integration offered by Squarespace.

Reason for choosing Squarespace

Honestly, it was probably due to advertising. Squarespace is advertised in nearly every podcast I listen to, and so I decided to tinker with it one day. I didn't hear of Wix until later, was less familiar with it, and so it wasn't my go-to.

Once I had started tinkering with Squarespace, there was no comparison. Joomla is...fine, I guess. It does offer a lot of flexibility that Squarespace does not, but there is a skill-barrier as a trade-off. Using Joomla was a constant rotation of updating the main software package, keeping plug-ins and add-ons (I'm still not sure what the distinction between those is, but Joomla insisted there is one...) up to date, and then dealing with a new round of conflicts between the new versions of the modules with the new version of the software. It was maddening, and our site still didn't look very good.

### "For Any Non-Techie Business Owner's - Squarespace is Your Best Bet!"

July 21, 2022

4.0

Pros

Since starting my online business, I have used Squarespace as my website design software. The website houses not just my personal story and branding, but also lists my services, has an inquiry form that is linked to my business email, and also archives all my podcast show notes with it's Blog Feature. Squarespace has been easy to use as a non-tech savvy business owner, they have many website templates to build from and have directory tabs to guide you through all the elements of your webpage. I also use Acuity Scheduling with Squarespace, which allows potential clients to book sales consults or collaboration calls within my hours of operation. This software has been a business essential since day one!

Cons

As far as the design of the website templates, I did wish that there was a function to manually drag borders and sections bigger or smaller with my mouse cursor. I also wanted this feature with uploaded images, where sometimes the image uploaded bigger than I wanted.

### "Modern website CMS for today's entrepreneurs"

November 9, 2021

5.0

I love building clean, professional websites on Squarespace and am confident of handing over them over to clients with the knowledge that they can manage the website on their own even if they are not coders. The platform is always coming up with new features and I'm looking forward to more exciting developments in the future.

Pros

The features I like the most are it ease of use, even for non-technical people, responsiveness on different screensizes, abulity to customize for enhanced features and styling, and ease of integration with other third-party services,

Cons

I'd like the ability to add different image formats like svgs. I'd also like to see more ecommerce and shopping cart features.
