### "Squarespace is easy to use, beautiful, and full featured"

June 12, 2023

5.0

Pros

on squarespace I felt like it was maybe the easiest of all the CMS websites to create a beautiful looking site quickly. Granted I was creating them before all of the new AI techniques popped up, but the ability to create something nice looking in a fast manner and still having a lot of control over the SEO is nice.

Cons

I think it is slightly over priced and doesn't give users enough time at a cheap rate to get their sites running before becoming full price. If you are on a limited income then be aware you will need to go into it with a plan to become monetized and generating traffic immediately.

I wanted to try every e commerce site possible before committing to one and launched several websites on squarespace because of the speed and design level I could achieve quickly.

### "The Many Pros of Squarespace"

September 14, 2023

5.0

Overall, our experience with Squarespace has been overwhelmingly positive. Their customer service team is prompt and responsive and very helpful. The servers supporting the websites run well with nearly no observed downtime. If you're building a website, there is no better option than Squarespace.

Pros

Squarespace is an easy to use tool with a wide range of options for customizability. From small school projects to larger projects in larger companies, Squarespace offers a wide variety of options and tools to choose from such that your website can be perfectly catered to your needs.

Cons

If your website needs are very complex, with a lot of needed support on the backend, Squarespace is slightly limited. However, this is to be expected, as if your goal is to build a large, complex, expansive website, using a premade template that allows dragging and dropping would be rather difficult.

### "Easily Create an Ever-Beautiful Website "

January 8, 2017

5.0

I have been using Squarespace for my e-commerce business for a few years now and love it! Squarespace sites are easy to create and update, while always remaining beautiful. I have used other drag-and-drop website building software in the past and even though the layouts looked right when I was editing, once I viewed them live and on different devices, there were always problems. With Squarespace's platform, my site always looks exactly the way I expect it to. I recently added the e-commerce component to my site and while it doesn't have a ton of features, like other sites, it works perfectly for what I need. Some templates are better suited for e-commerce, so if that's what you're looking for, make sure to look into which ones those are. Squarespace websites are also automatically optimized for search engines! Last year I took an SEO course to improve traffic to my website and a bunch of the suggestions involved manually updating parts of my site every few months so that search engines would continue to find my site. When I inquired with Squarespace about how to go about this, they let me know that their platform already does this for my site automatically--yay! I also discovered a variety of other SEO features that are built into every Squarespace site, so you don't have to worry about updating or even knowing about much of it--it's all done for you! While Squarespace doesn't offer customer service by phone, they are timely with responding to inquiries via email and their robust online knowledge base has answered many of my questions in just a few minutes. They also offer a chat feature Mon-Fri. Finally, one of the reasons I decided to switch to Squarespace was for integrations, like MailChimp--they make it easy to connect with my customers and streamline collecting their information. They also just added an integration with PayPal for checkout, which I can already tell has made purchases easier for my customers. Overall, I am extremely happy with Squarespace and look forward to discovering, even more, features!

Pros

Ease of use Beautiful designs Great customer service Affordable useful integrations (PayPal, MailChimp, etc) built-in SEO constantly updating and adding more features

Cons

e-commerce platform has minimal features No customer service phone support Some features are only available on a limited number of templates

### "A reliable application to build websites without coding "

November 16, 2022

4.0

Overall I am very happy that I chose Squarespace to create stunning website designs.

Pros

As a non programmer It is a complicated affair for me to build my website with a professional look. Squarespace offers me a straightforward GUI interface to exercise my best creativity and design ideas using drag and drop features and graphical interface. I no longer need to struggle with the codes or copy paste them from other sources. I can simply create my own website with the readymade templates and also add my personal branding touch.

Cons

I think that the options should have been more neatly organized and grouped in a way that the beginners won't have to struggle finding the relevant options. The software can group all the generally used options and present them in the main page.

### "Easy drag-and-drop alternative to other web platforms"

March 30, 2021

5.0

I'm a copywriter, designer and brand/marketing consultant. I've built multiple small sites myself, and on a handful of others have directed freelance designers and developers on site build-out. First Squarespace site I did was in 2016. We build websites for clients on Wordpress, Shopify and Bigcommerce as well. And tend to direct clients to Squarespace if their content will be visually-driven, perhaps a little lighter on the e-commerce side, and when they'll benefit from the ability to create new pages -- especially marketing landing pages under their own domain -- without the need to call in extra developer/programmer assistance.

Pros

Squarespace's drag-and-drop platform makes it really easy to create a great-looking, full-functioning website... that can be organically changed, added to and otherwise modified over time. If we have clients who need to create marketing landing pages under their own URL, Squarespace is the one website platform that offers this natively and elegantly. We find ourselves needing to call in programmer/developers far less often when creating or modifying a web site on Squarespace. The ability to add forms, email captures, slide shows, etc., is all native to the platform, without needing to add a bunch of plugins. Your editing window is the actual page, so you can see what your dragging, writing, and otherwise placing on the page in a completely visual editor view. If you are someone who doesn't do coding... and likes the ability to drag sections and elements, set your own colors, padding, etc., Squarespace is really quite flexible and easy to use.

Cons

It doesn't do a perfect job of scaling photography from desktop to mobile views. It certainly does it, but sometimes requires a little creativity to set the image focal point and/or scale the original image so that it looks good in desktop and doesn't look too big in mobile. This is less of an issue with large banner-width images than with smaller inset images. Takes a little getting used to. The only other issue we've run into is that the interface is so easy to use that we've had a client go in and make color and photo changes we'd have preferred he didn't. Easy enough to correct. But, generally, our clients are too intimidated by other platforms to get in and change things, so just something to think about and create a plan/process around on a Squarespace site.

### "I couldn't be happier with Squarespace as a web-building platform"

March 7, 2024

5.0

This platform was a winner from the start. I had done trials of a few other builders, and I caught on to this one the fastest. It's extremely intuitive, and they have tons of beautiful virtually plug-and-play templates that anyone can use to make a stunning website.

Pros

Squarespace is so easy to use. Although having a design background helps, you don't have to have one to understand and use this platform. Having said that, it's also an incredibly powerful tool, with comprehensive features.

Cons

As I have found with any website-building tool, there always seem to be a handful of features that seem like no brainers, but aren't offered. I found this to be the case when I wanted a scrolling carousel of images. But, there are always work arounds, and although it was a bit more work, I figured out how to use the tools offered to get close to my desired result.

### "Squarespace is the perfect web solution for small business owners"

December 27, 2022

5.0

I suggest Squarespace for any business owner, client or not, that is tired of the hassle of WordPress but doesn't have the budget or need for a fully custom site. I feel like they are one of the simplest builders to set up and transfer ownership so long as the client is semi-good with tech. It's one of the best builders to support responsive design that's also user-friendly. A good middle-ground product for those willing to pay a little more for ease of use.

Pros

It's super user-friendly and has enough variety of features to support a large range of web needs.

Cons

The customer service is not very responsive, nor easy to get to. I've not been able to get a response from them on my own account needs and a client I've worked with had trouble as well.

### "Great Website Builder and Templates for Businesses and Artists"

May 1, 2021

5.0

Overall, the Squarespace website builder has served my business well. I’m able to have professional-looking websites that deliver the message I want to get across, all in great-looking design. Coupled with the integrated online scheduler where my clients can book their appointments and the integrated marketing tools, it serves my business needs daily.

Pros

I have 3 Squarespace websites for my photography and multimedia businesses and 1 Squarespace website for my personal work/artist portfolio. I’ve been a Squarespace user for a long time, and since then things have only improved with the choice of templates and the design possibilities. A significant advantage is that you don’t need to be tied to a template design and customize the design and add custom CSS if you want more complex customization. There are many third-party plugins available for Squarespace if you don’t have the knowledge to do it yourself, and that can make the already great starter templates even better. For businesses, Squarespace has built-in SEO and other marketing tools like newsletters, a built-in scheduling calendar for clients to book appointments if you’re a service-oriented business, and of course, there’s also the possibility for e-commerce with great web store designs and templates.

Cons

Squarespace is still heavily focused on English-speaking and North-American customers/businesses when it comes to selling products. For example, for companies that are not based in the US, there’s still no built-in possibility to accept local payment gateways if you want to sell products or services. Many customers in EU regions prefer to pay online using their local bank payment gateways rather than credit cards. Compared to some other website builders. The ability to sell products or services using your local payment gateway is still missing in Squarespace as something that's built and that you can activate with the click of a button.

March 20, 2023

Pros

I really like the amount of helpful info there is on using the program. They have a great help section. It’s so easy to get a site up quickly and securely.

Cons

It can be a little tricky to figure out where all the areas are that you can and should edit for your site. There’s a lot of clicking around into the many layers but websites are complex, not sure how it could be simplified even more.

### "Cheap and accessible website builder"

September 28, 2021

4.0

Overall, I would definitely recommend Squarespace for someone that is looking to build a website on their own without spending a huge bank on resources. I think for a regular user, it has everything they would need to build a functional and beautiful site.

Pros

I have tried different web building platforms before, but square space seemed to be the easiest to customize and work with. I liked the wide range of their templates and have used them to build my own site. I think their pricing is pretty similar to that of the competitors, but I think their website builder is more user friendly. Furthermore, publishing the website was super simple and I like that they offer web hosting services directly through them.

Cons

It's a bit frustrating that there are still quite a few design limitations. There are things that are hard to achieve without coding, and it can take a lot of trial and error to figure out the names of particular items you want to change the look. Personally, I have struggled with font customization, I just couldn't achieve the look I wanted and had to settle for something different. Also, I know that from the business perspective it is probably not profitable, but a number of years ago Squarespace had a live chat with customer support. It was so useful, when I couldn't find things they would help and even provided me with a custom tutorial regarding my question. Last time I have used it, this option either wasn't available or not easy to find, and I had to look through the FAQs. Again, because of this I had to settle for a different look than I was originally going for.

### "Squarespace: the platform that empowers creatives"

February 17, 2022

4.0

I use Squarespace to showcase my work and tell my story to potential clients, and allow them to book in a call with me. It's an essential part of my client acquisition process.

Pros

Squarespace has made my career possible. It allowed me to build the portfolio that landed my first full-time graphic design job, and is now the platform I use to showcase my work and win freelance clients. Its balance of simplicity and customisability empowers me as a designer to build a website that represents me and my small design business in the best light possible.

Cons

I will admit I've had to rely quite heavily on custom CSS to get my site looking the way I'd like — this wouldn't be much of a problem if it weren't for the poor CSS coding experience. Squarespace only gives me a very small window to type in, and it's very difficult to navigate the 400 lines or so of code I've written. There is also an abundance of unused code (Javascript) that gets loaded into my website by default which I cannot remove. This increases my website load time, making for a poor viewer experience – not to mention the negative impact this has on my SEO. Squarespace also slows my computer severely when I use it in the Safari browser — this led me to switch back to Chrome. All this being said — if you're someone who doesn't plan on adding code, isn't concerned with SEO, and doesn't use Safari for desktop — I can't help but commend Squarespace for their brilliant overall experience.

### "Web design for the non tech head"

October 9, 2023

5.0

It's been reliable, easy to use and handles custom CSS well. I can't say as a designer that I have enjoyed it, but its certainly easier than trying to think like a web developer.

Pros

I appreciate the simplicity and reliability of Squarespace - and the ability to further extend the product through learning and implementing custom CSS with only basic learning is great.

Cons

It can be frustrating to implement some ideas if it falls outside of the basic template parameters - I think there could be scope for greater customisation without affecting the ease of use, however custom CSS does partly negate this issue. It would be good if it wasn't quite so expensive as well.

### "Squarespace is a great option for simple, professional looking websites!"

February 8, 2022

5.0

For a small but growing non-profit, Squarespace has provided the perfect option for our website needs. It is cost effective and looks sharp and professional. It is easy to edit content and meets our needs perfectly.

Pros

I like that it is simple and easy to use. Editing text and content is simple for even those who are not website designers. It is a great software for simple, professional looking websites. It is easily customizable if you don't need anything too complex. It is perfect for a smaller non-profit or business without the expense of the more complex website softwares.

Cons

I don't like how this software has some limitations on what you can customize and create. If you are needing complex menus, multiple outputs and fancy video features, this software is not for you.

### "The Best AND Easiest Website-Creating Software You Will Ever Use!"

August 4, 2019

5.0

Squarespace has saved me time, money, and has allowed me to expand my photography business over the past 5 years by providing the perfect place for clients to find me online. Plus, I get SO many compliments on my website! People always comment on how it is professional, clean, and easy to navigate.

Pros

When I first started looking for a platform to create a website for my fledgling photography business nearly 5 years ago, there were a few specific characteristics I was seeking: I needed the platform to be easy to use, quick to set up, and to showcase my photos in an optimal way to potential clients. I found all of that and more with Squarespace! I was able to get my website set up in just a few days and was able to do it without any tears or that "I'm going to pull my hair out!" feeling. If anything, it was the complete opposite! I couldn't believe how easy everything was to set up and how professional my website looked.

Cons

The ONE thing I wish Squarespace had more of: more creative templates. Their website templates are a great, solid "skeleton" (if you will), but you definitely have to put extra work in if you want to make your website stand out from others who utilize the same template.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Squarespace

Squarespace was the easiest to get set up - fast. And it's the easiest to maintain, in my opinion! ### "Perfect for Creative Professionals, Limiting for E-Commerce"

September 29, 2022

4.0

Squarespace has allowed me to build an online space where I can sell my artwork and share creative projects. As my product line grows I will need to move the shop aspect to an alternative like Shopify. However, I will remain using Squarespace as the main website for my business and services.

Pros

Squarespace is my favorite website builder for small businesses and creative professionals. I love that it is so easy to set up and customize to fit my branding and voice. Squarespace makes it easy for one person to create their own portfolio or website to promote their work or house their services.

Cons

While Squarespace has been my favorite website host as a creative professional, it is lacking in e-commerce tools and support. Simple things like having a filtering system for a shop page require additional plug-ins, or coming up with DIY solutions (that will ultimately require more work long term). Squarespace's commerce functions may be appropriate for a shop with one or very few product categories. However, as the product line expands and falls under different categories, it becomes much harder for the user to sort through products and locate what they need.

### "Built my organization from scratch through Squarespace. "

December 27, 2022

5.0

I have had a great experience with Squarespace, I still can't believe that I was able to build such a successful organization using Squarespace as my website. It has been an incredible journey that has been able to help a lot of people, change their lives, and was all done through using Squarespace as the medium.

Pros

I appreciate how use friendly squarespace is. I come from no background in Tech or website design/building, and I was able to sit down and build a nice website within a matter of weeks. I have been growing the organization for the past 3 years and Squarespace allowed me to build it up and spread it to over 30 countries around the world.

Cons

I have no complaints. It was very easy to use, manage, and maintain. The only thing that I didn't like was that the yearly cost to maintain the website was increased after 3 years of using it.
